The parents of a two`year`old boy left permanently

paralysed by a joy rider say their lives have been torn apart.

JJ Michalowski has been in hospital since the accident

and is only allowed out for occasional days with his family.

They say they need tens of thousands of pounds to get him home for good.

It's as normal a family scene as you could hope to see.

Watching telly on the sofa while granny does Sunday dinner.

But life for this family was changed forever by a moment of madness.

They were hit by a man driving dangerously ina s

He needs help to breathe and will never walk again.

It had an impact on the girls, on everyone.

We're having nightmares, waking up every night.

It's hard, even simple things like getting up in the morning

They want JJ home from hospital, but he can't come.

This is the grandparents' house, a bungalow.

The family home is rented, two`storeys.

It'll cost ?10,000 just for a specially`adapted car seat

and electronic buggie for JJ, never mind adapted living space.

So far, they say there has been no help from the authorities.

The local community is fundraising, but it's a big ask.

The driver who did this has pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentence.

For JJ and his family, the consequences are for life.
