The Chief Constable of South Yorkshire Police admits

:00:00.:00:12.

the force failed the 1,400 victims of child sex abuse in Rotherham.

:00:13.:00:19.

Speaking for the first time since the report into child sexual

:00:20.:00:22.

exploitation came out, David Crompton promises the police will

:00:23.:00:25.

We treat this extremely seriously and if, looking back, people have

:00:26.:00:38.

clearly done things they should not have done or disregarded information

:00:39.:00:40.

that is important, we will act on that.

:00:41.:00:43.

A multi`million pound project is underway to restore one of

:00:44.:00:46.

The hunt is on for a new head coach after David Hockaday gets the sack

:00:47.:00:53.

It has been a rather cloudy day, showers and places as well, but an

:00:54.:01:06.

improvement for the weekend. I will be back later in the programme with

:01:07.:01:07.

the details. This is the heart of Rotherham, it

:01:08.:01:23.

has been an awful week for the town. It finds itself at the centre of a

:01:24.:01:27.

16 year scandal involving 1400 victims and tonight the police

:01:28.:01:32.

admitted they let all of those victims down. He in East Wood, where

:01:33.:01:36.

there has been a meeting of local people, there is anger. I will have

:01:37.:01:41.

more about that later on. But first, who actually knew what was going on

:01:42.:01:45.

and is there evidence of a cover`up? Spencer Stokes has this report.

:01:46.:01:50.

How was it that in a town of 250,000 people, 1400 girls were

:01:51.:01:53.

In today's Times newspaper, the reporter who broke

:01:54.:01:58.

the original story, Andrew Norfolk, claims Rotherham council went to

:01:59.:02:00.

great lengths to hide evidence that the town's sex grooming crisis was

:02:01.:02:04.

These latest revelations date back to 2002.

:02:05.:02:11.

The Times accuses senior staff at the council of taking files

:02:12.:02:14.

According to the paper, the items taken

:02:15.:02:20.

during the internal raid were files detailing victims, offenders, and

:02:21.:02:23.

how individual cases were handled by the child protection authorities.

:02:24.:02:31.

Rotherham Council's chief executive, Martin Kimber, said he could find

:02:32.:02:33.

no evidence of the raid and was unable to find anyone who

:02:34.:02:36.

But the council is also accused of paying

:02:37.:02:41.

for taxis to ferry girls to and from school and around Rotherham.

:02:42.:02:50.

The BBC has spoken to a former care worker who says that grooming began

:02:51.:02:56.

on those journeys. It is grooming,

:02:57.:02:59.

these young people have already been There are some horrific cases

:03:00.:03:02.

of abuse within the family and yet If they are providing that plus

:03:03.:03:06.

drugs and alcohol and freedoms, or perceived freedoms, then we're never

:03:07.:03:11.

going to be able to keep them safe. According to the care worker who was

:03:12.:03:15.

employed by Rotherham Council for four years, security at the

:03:16.:03:17.

council`run care homes was lacking. If they could leave

:03:18.:03:20.

by the fire escape, they would leave But sometimes,

:03:21.:03:23.

to hide where they were going, they would put bed sheets together

:03:24.:03:25.

and climb out from a window. From a second story building,

:03:26.:03:28.

that is dangerous as well. The girls were classed as children

:03:29.:03:31.

at risk, many of them NEETs, not in Sarah, a former Rotherham social

:03:32.:03:34.

worker, has told the BBC that instead of being seen

:03:35.:03:38.

as individuals, the girls were It were all about how to

:03:39.:03:40.

manipulate the figures. Pressure were put

:03:41.:03:48.

on not to put people on the books. And then what tended to happen was

:03:49.:03:51.

that those people, These letters from inside

:03:52.:03:53.

Rotherham Council show staff were encouraged to hold back NEETs

:03:54.:03:59.

from one month's figures According to Sarah,

:04:00.:04:03.

it was a numbers game. It will become a self`perpetuating

:04:04.:04:08.

fiddle, I can't see it any other way, that led to the children not

:04:09.:04:11.

getting the support they needed. Then it became like a runaway lorry

:04:12.:04:14.

down a hill, it got out of control Many in Rotherham knew

:04:15.:04:17.

what was going on. Over 16 years, 1400 girls abused,

:04:18.:04:23.

but only one gang Three days into this appalling

:04:24.:04:42.

scandal, there is still an embarrassing silence from many

:04:43.:04:46.

leaders in Rotherham Council. This afternoon, South Yorkshire Police

:04:47.:04:50.

have admitted that they let down 1400 victims and failed them over a

:04:51.:04:55.

number of years. But the chief constable does not hold himself

:04:56.:04:59.

personally responsible. Clearly I take responsibility in terms of

:05:00.:05:01.

trying to take things forward from here, because there are some very

:05:02.:05:06.

serious issues raised in the report. However, I think that the main

:05:07.:05:10.

issues which are in the report considerably predate my time in the

:05:11.:05:14.

force. Be that as it may, people will find it incredible that not one

:05:15.:05:18.

single police officer from your force has been disciplined or even

:05:19.:05:24.

reprimanded in any way. We are going to be looking into that. In

:05:25.:05:28.

fairness, the report has outlined in a hundred pages plus of the report,

:05:29.:05:33.

a whole host of issues. It is clearly now my duty to take forward

:05:34.:05:37.

arrangements to look into the issues which have been raised and that may

:05:38.:05:41.

well, if people have done things wrong, result in people being

:05:42.:05:45.

disciplined. The level of knowledge of what was going on was quite

:05:46.:05:49.

profound in South Yorkshire Police. Two of the three reports which were

:05:50.:05:53.

ignored were written by South Yorkshire officers. People knew what

:05:54.:05:57.

was going on but did not do anything about it. How can people trust your

:05:58.:06:02.

force? We have put a sixfold increase into this area of work over

:06:03.:06:07.

the last two years. We have achieved 102 prosecutions since the beginning

:06:08.:06:13.

of last year. And very recently, Her Majesty 's Inspectorate of

:06:14.:06:15.

Constabulary said there is good work going on and from a policy

:06:16.:06:18.

perspective, we are in a far better place than we used to be. Clearly

:06:19.:06:23.

there is still far more work to be done and I don't take that lightly.

:06:24.:06:26.

Oliver, that is what we intend to do, we take things forward, we treat

:06:27.:06:31.

this extremely seriously. `` however, that is what we intend. If

:06:32.:06:36.

people have disregarded information that was important or dumb things

:06:37.:06:39.

they should not have done, we will act on that. I have written a

:06:40.:06:42.

personal letter asking for a meeting so we can go through in more detail

:06:43.:06:48.

the issues raised in the report and anything that was behind that report

:06:49.:06:51.

that did not actually make it into print. `` or done things they should

:06:52.:06:57.

not have done. And perhaps we could have access to key documents that

:06:58.:07:00.

could help us determine what went on all of those years ago. Many of your

:07:01.:07:04.

offices treated victims with contempt, it is alleged that they

:07:05.:07:08.

lost evidence. Will you be investigating those claims properly?

:07:09.:07:14.

Absolutely, yes. There is a lot to do. This goes back over many years,

:07:15.:07:18.

we treat it seriously and clearly it will be a large investigation. We

:07:19.:07:22.

need to work out the best way of going about that. Anything that

:07:23.:07:25.

people have done which they should not have done, or if evidence was

:07:26.:07:29.

ignored or suppressed, will come within that investigation. The

:07:30.:07:35.

tension levels since this report came out are mounting, as I have

:07:36.:07:39.

experienced myself. This is a real test for the local people here. Some

:07:40.:07:43.

members of the Pakistani community claim they have received death

:07:44.:07:46.

threats as well. And just this afternoon, many members of that

:07:47.:07:50.

community met in the centre behind me. It was a packed meeting, angry

:07:51.:07:55.

and they passionate meeting as well. We have been looking at the wide

:07:56.:07:57.

implications. Muslims gather for Friday prayers

:07:58.:08:03.

at a Leeds mosque. It has been a turbulent week

:08:04.:08:06.

for the Pakistani community across Yorkshire, following a report

:08:07.:08:08.

into child sex abuse in Rotherham. It really beggars belief that we

:08:09.:08:11.

failed those who need us most. Political correctness has

:08:12.:08:14.

its own limits. When people are abusing law,

:08:15.:08:20.

when people are transgressing the boundaries,

:08:21.:08:24.

the social boundaries that we have, when people are abusing young

:08:25.:08:26.

and vulnerable individuals, A criminal is a criminal,

:08:27.:08:29.

when he or she breaks the law. Jahangir Akhtar was the former

:08:30.:08:37.

deputy leader of Rotherham Council He says now is not the time for the

:08:38.:08:40.

authorities to blame each other. There is a certain amount

:08:41.:08:48.

of soul`searching for people who And I do not mean necessarily

:08:49.:08:51.

the Pakistani community, because some other people might have

:08:52.:08:56.

known what was being done People need to come forward

:08:57.:08:59.

and identify these criminals. This media furore, over three or

:09:00.:09:06.

four days, it has been missed out that the most people who should

:09:07.:09:11.

be accountable are the evil people 3% of Rotherham's population is

:09:12.:09:14.

of Pakistani heritage. Late this afternoon,

:09:15.:09:20.

during a lively meeting, young Muslims gathered to discuss

:09:21.:09:29.

the fallout from Tuesday's report. People do feel ashamed to be

:09:30.:09:33.

associated, both culturally and religiously, with the people

:09:34.:09:37.

that committed these crimes. I wouldn't describe them as Muslims

:09:38.:09:40.

necessarily, but they are It has been an unsettling week for

:09:41.:09:43.

many in this South Yorkshire town. Seeking answers to one

:09:44.:09:50.

of the largest child abuse scandals of recent times, however,

:09:51.:09:52.

only seems to raise more questions. One of the organisers of that

:09:53.:10:07.

meeting this afternoon is with me. What has the backlash he against

:10:08.:10:12.

your community? These are the fears many people had if this situation

:10:13.:10:16.

wasn't dealt with. The community today showed they were scared of the

:10:17.:10:20.

backlash and wanted to deal with this in a positive manner. It was an

:10:21.:10:24.

angry, passionate mood in there but also quite positive as well. It was

:10:25.:10:28.

an angry mood and a passionate mood. I have been saying this for a long

:10:29.:10:31.

time, today we have seen the community does not support these

:10:32.:10:35.

actions and we want prosecutions and convictions. And the police and the

:10:36.:10:40.

council and social services need to take responsibility for their

:10:41.:10:44.

actions. You know as well as I do that many people are saying that you

:10:45.:10:46.

also need to take a possibility, that may will `` maybe somebody knew

:10:47.:10:53.

who the perpetrators were. The community in there said that they

:10:54.:10:59.

genuinely did not know. We would not see the anger, the shock, the

:11:00.:11:02.

frustration within the community if we did know. This is why when we do

:11:03.:11:07.

know, we have packed meetings as such in front of the press, it was

:11:08.:11:11.

all their lives and clear. There is nothing else I need to say that you

:11:12.:11:15.

did not see. And you know now that the way forward is very significant.

:11:16.:11:19.

What would you say to your community to try and keep things calm? We know

:11:20.:11:23.

the interest of them sleep have been around and so on. We understand far

:11:24.:11:27.

right groups and individuals would like to take over the situation.

:11:28.:11:31.

There will be at element of patients. I have had some races are

:11:32.:11:37.

myself, we are just asking to please, please stay calm. `` some

:11:38.:11:41.

races are myself. This issue has an national and global. We have the

:11:42.:11:44.

whole of Britain and nationally, eyes are on this community. We hope

:11:45.:11:51.

we can join with many people in our community to stand against this kind

:11:52.:11:54.

of issue and stand together. It will have to be that, you will have to

:11:55.:11:59.

stand together and cooperate. It cannot be an issue where it is just

:12:00.:12:02.

the Pakistani Muslim community coming out or any other community.

:12:03.:12:08.

The British Muslim news has come out today and lead today's meeting and

:12:09.:12:12.

will be moving forward. We want everybody and all other stakeholders

:12:13.:12:16.

to come together, we want to hold those people to account. The police

:12:17.:12:20.

just cannot apologise, accountability is needed. Thanks.

:12:21.:12:25.

You have an idea of the sense of feeling that exists in Rotherham

:12:26.:12:27.

after what can only be described as a terrible week.

:12:28.:12:31.

Thanks Harry, and don't forget you can see a full investigation into

:12:32.:12:34.

the child abuse in Rotherham in a special Panorama on Monday evening.

:12:35.:12:38.

"Stolen Childhoods ` The grooming Scandal" will be

:12:39.:12:40.

More news around from around the region now and two men

:12:41.:12:47.

have died after a car crashed into a wall and a road sign in Doncaster.

:12:48.:12:52.

It happened on Cusworth Lane at about 1:20 this morning.

:12:53.:12:54.

A third man was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

:12:55.:12:56.

A motorcyclist from Barnsley has been killed during the

:12:57.:12:59.

50`year`old Gary Firth crashed at the 11th milestone on the TT

:13:00.:13:06.

The event's organisers have expressed their sympathy to

:13:07.:13:09.

An investigation into what caused the accident is now underway.

:13:10.:13:17.

Hundreds of Yorkshire ambulance service workers are on strike

:13:18.:13:20.

for six hours today over concerns about patient and staff safety.

:13:21.:13:22.

Members of the Unite union walked out at three o'clock.

:13:23.:13:25.

It's the latest strike in a row about meal breaks

:13:26.:13:27.

and the introduction of new emergency care assistants.

:13:28.:13:30.

A further walkout is planned for Tuesday.

:13:31.:13:32.

The ambulance service says contingency plans are in place.

:13:33.:13:41.

A hi`tech waste water treatment works designed to improve water

:13:42.:13:43.

quality around Scarborough's beaches has been officially opened today.

:13:44.:13:46.

The multimillion`pound facility at Burniston features UV lighting

:13:47.:13:48.

which zaps bugs out of storm water before it's discharged to sea.

:13:49.:13:55.

It's part of a ?110 million investment

:13:56.:13:57.

by Yorkshire Water to improve bathing water along the east coast.

:13:58.:14:03.

A multi`million pound project is underway to restore one

:14:04.:14:05.

of Yorkshire's and the world's most precious habitats.

:14:06.:14:08.

Destruction of blanket bog on the moors above many Yorkshire

:14:09.:14:10.

towns has been going on for decades, but now work is being done to halt

:14:11.:14:14.

Danny Carpenter reports from Wessenden near Holmfirth.

:14:15.:14:21.

It's a pretty industrial site for what is supposed to be

:14:22.:14:23.

But our most precious landscapes are in need of help.

:14:24.:14:29.

This is lime, gardeners use it to make soil less

:14:30.:14:31.

acidic but in this case, the garden is a thousand hectares,

:14:32.:14:34.

so you need tonnes of lime and a way of getting it where it is needed.

:14:35.:14:40.

This is supposed to be a wet landscape,

:14:41.:14:44.

but decades of drainage for grazing and grouse farming has left it dry.

:14:45.:14:49.

The blanket bogs which knit the peat together

:14:50.:14:51.

The Pennine Way crosses it, The National Trust owns it,

:14:52.:14:55.

but the restoration work is being done by a water company.

:14:56.:15:02.

Fertilising, planting, creating dams, putting back

:15:03.:15:04.

When the peat dries out, it erodes and it washes colour

:15:05.:15:12.

into the reservoirs and that costs a lot to treat.

:15:13.:15:15.

The stone dams allow the water to percolate through and then the silt

:15:16.:15:18.

and peat builds up behind that and in time, that peat, instead of

:15:19.:15:21.

washing down into the reservoirs, actually allows vegetation to grow

:15:22.:15:23.

up on it and it stabilises the whole system again. Basically, we're

:15:24.:15:29.

trying to keep these moors where they belong, which is on the top

:15:30.:15:32.

These bales of heather brash will do a similar job.

:15:33.:15:37.

Hundreds of tonnes helicoptered in to hold back the water and the peat.

:15:38.:15:42.

Many experts believe blocking the channels and restoring

:15:43.:15:47.

the bogs will reduce flood risk in the towns below the moors.

:15:48.:15:54.

It's expensive, it's inconvenient, but it is the quickest way

:15:55.:15:56.

A similar one in North Yorkshire, another ?2 million.

:15:57.:16:05.

Treating the tainted drinking water costs tens of millions of pounds.

:16:06.:16:12.

It makes sense to let the landscape do the work, even if it needs

:16:13.:16:15.

Man and machine restoring to nature what man and machine destroyed.

:16:16.:16:28.

Before seven o'clock, summer's not quite over.

:16:29.:16:35.

I meant being the music live, where I have been catching up with some

:16:36.:16:45.

legends of Britpop. `` I am at Bingley music live.

:16:46.:16:48.

Tanya's here with the sport now and we're not yet at the end of August

:16:49.:16:51.

and already two of our clubs are on the look out for new managers.

:16:52.:16:55.

More on Huddersfield's search in a moment but first up Leeds United.

:16:56.:17:01.

Owner Massimo Cellino last night sacked Dave Hockaday

:17:02.:17:03.

The sacking was less surprising than the appointment.

:17:04.:17:09.

It was all smiles when Massimo Cellino introduced Dave Hockaday

:17:10.:17:12.

but it hasn't taken long for the Italian to decide the former Forest

:17:13.:17:15.

Defeat on Wednesday night to League 1 neighbours Bradford in the

:17:16.:17:19.

Capital One Cup was the final straw for him and the fans.

:17:20.:17:22.

Shambles. Absolute shambles.

:17:23.:17:26.

Hockaday came with a good reputation as a coach, which

:17:27.:17:32.

Not for him your traditional English manager.

:17:33.:17:36.

We need a bigger name to come in, somebody who has proven that they

:17:37.:17:41.

Is he going to look through Europe until he finds another yes`man?

:17:42.:17:50.

Because this is what this guy needs, and that is a bit worrying.

:17:51.:17:54.

I would like to see Neil given a chance.

:17:55.:17:58.

He's been there a long time, served his time, let's give him a go.

:17:59.:18:02.

The Neil in question is Academy coach Neil Redfearn, no stranger

:18:03.:18:08.

of taking temporary charge of the club, and he will do so tomorrow.

:18:09.:18:11.

Is he who Cellino wants or has he got another surprise

:18:12.:18:13.

Who is in line for the job? I can throw names at you. Roberto

:18:14.:18:31.

DiMatteo, Oscar Garcia, who was at Brighton last year, Steve Clark,

:18:32.:18:35.

Gary McAllister. They say they have been inundated with people who want

:18:36.:18:39.

the job. The honest answer is, I haven't a clue and I don't think I

:18:40.:18:44.

am alone in that. As Massimo Cellino has proved, he is his own man, he

:18:45.:18:49.

will choose exactly who he wants. It may be somebody we have heard of or

:18:50.:18:52.

it might be a complete surprise. An honest answer to say, watch this

:18:53.:18:54.

space. Meanwhile, it's nearly three weeks

:18:55.:18:58.

since Mark Robins left his job In the meantime Mark Lillis has been

:18:59.:19:01.

in charge of the team while the club has talked to

:19:02.:19:06.

the likes of Neil Lennon, But would Lillis fancy

:19:07.:19:08.

the job permanently? Well it sounds You can handle the situation, handle

:19:09.:19:20.

the job, but it has not come to that decision yet. The board have not

:19:21.:19:24.

come to me and offered the job permanently. A lot of things you

:19:25.:19:28.

have to think about, I am into a two and a half year job, successful

:19:29.:19:35.

academy manager. Starting to get the foundations to produce players.

:19:36.:19:38.

There is a lot I will have to think about, if it comes to that.

:19:39.:19:44.

And as the regular Super League season approaches it's final couple

:19:45.:19:47.

of rounds, let's hope last night's amazing match between Huddersfield

:19:48.:19:50.

Giants and Warrington was a taste of what's to come in the play`offs.

:19:51.:19:53.

Typically, the Giants showed their brilliance as well as their flaws.

:19:54.:19:55.

But what an advert for the sport, as Paul Ogden reports.

:19:56.:19:58.

If only Huddersfield Giants could play like this all the time.

:19:59.:20:01.

In eight blistering minutes at Warrington,

:20:02.:20:02.

they put on a mini`exhibition of how Super League is done.

:20:03.:20:07.

After Chris Bailey's try, Ta'ai's one`man power play

:20:08.:20:12.

and then it was Shaun Lunt's turn to plunge over, Danny Brough's

:20:13.:20:15.

conversions, and a drop goal, establishing a 19`6 half`time lead.

:20:16.:20:19.

After the break it got even better, briefly,

:20:20.:20:21.

If they had left the gates open, Jodie Broughton would still be

:20:22.:20:29.

23`6 in the Giants' favour and still they let it slip.

:20:30.:20:33.

Back came Warrington with a three`try blitz that will keep

:20:34.:20:36.

the Giants' defensive coaches awake at night.

:20:37.:20:37.

With O'Brien's final conversion, Warrington edged in front, 24`23.

:20:38.:20:42.

And there was still time for another twist.

:20:43.:20:44.

Danny Brough, who else, was on the spot to tie

:20:45.:20:46.

the scores after all with his second drop goal of the night.

:20:47.:20:49.

24`24 it finished, not a scoreline that will be available

:20:50.:20:52.

I hope you get as much excitement as you are watching the Leeds` Saint

:20:53.:21:07.

Helen game this evening. I can't wait, I have got the video set and

:21:08.:21:10.

ready for it. Thanks very much. 15,000 music fans are

:21:11.:21:14.

expected at Myrtle Park in Bingley over the next three days for

:21:15.:21:17.

the Bingley Music Live festival. Fans began arriving

:21:18.:21:19.

at the site this afternoon. The festival began as a small

:21:20.:21:21.

community`run event eight years ago, This year's headliners include

:21:22.:21:24.

Example and The Pet Shop Boys. Thanks, yes, I am here at Bingley

:21:25.:21:42.

Music Live. We are just behind the main stage so it is quite live. I'm

:21:43.:21:47.

a bit disappointed because it has started raining again. It has been

:21:48.:21:51.

pouring down all afternoon and it held off for a little while but now

:21:52.:21:54.

it is back. Anyway, still having a good time. Headlining on Sunday are

:21:55.:21:59.

the Pet Shop Boys, a big band for quite a small festival. And

:22:00.:22:02.

headlining tonight, shed seven, they are from York. A little early, we

:22:03.:22:06.

were so lucky to be able to watch were so lucky to be able to watch

:22:07.:22:10.

them perform their song, going for gold, in a special acoustic session

:22:11.:22:12.

for luck North. Check this out. That was fantastic. And I was

:22:13.:23:03.

particularly excited because I purchased that as a single back in

:23:04.:23:09.

the 1990s so it was special to hear it. And it is especially have Rick

:23:10.:23:15.

with me now. In the flesh. Lovely to meet you. You are playing Bingley

:23:16.:23:19.

tonight. You have played a lot of festivals in your time, how will

:23:20.:23:24.

this measure up? This is quite local for us, we live in York. I have

:23:25.:23:27.

never been to it after all these years but I have had so many good

:23:28.:23:31.

reports. We will play the hits later this evening. Are you looking for

:23:32.:23:35.

wood to it, have you got any special new moves ready? `` looking forward.

:23:36.:23:41.

A bit of that. At a festival you should play your hits, so it will be

:23:42.:23:48.

hit heavy for an hour. Fantastic. You wrote those hits a long time ago

:23:49.:23:53.

but they still hold the test of time. Did you ever imagine you would

:23:54.:23:56.

be playing them do better than audiences in 2014? Yes. I am glad

:23:57.:24:04.

you have that confidence and belief. People persist in coming to see us

:24:05.:24:09.

so we will be there for them. I hope you enjoy it. Also with me is one of

:24:10.:24:16.

the festival organisers. Hello, Lee. Getting an act as big as the Pet

:24:17.:24:19.

Shop Boys and of course Shed seven is quite a big task. This must be

:24:20.:24:24.

quite an operation and quite a big financial operation. It is. Run by

:24:25.:24:29.

Bradford Council, it is built over eight years now. We have fantastic

:24:30.:24:34.

acts, like you say, the Pet Shop Boys, Example, Shed seven, all

:24:35.:24:41.

headlining this weekend. It has been steady growth as well, thanks to the

:24:42.:24:45.

support of the public. One other thing about this festival is that

:24:46.:24:49.

they have got a little work to do with fancy dress. If you come on

:24:50.:24:53.

Sunday, and want you to come in fancy dress, dressed as a robot. So,

:24:54.:24:58.

get the tinfoil ready if you are coming to see the Pet Shop Boys.

:24:59.:25:05.

I interviewed Shed seven almost 20 years ago as a young reporter, how

:25:06.:25:13.

old do I feel? ! Moving on to the weekend weather, how is it looking?

:25:14.:25:18.

Better for the festival on Saturday and Sunday, it has been quite soggy

:25:19.:25:20.

today. An improvement for the weekend. And actually through next

:25:21.:25:25.

week, the return of summer, something to look forward to.

:25:26.:25:30.

The first picture was taken by a visitor from Brazil. I think the

:25:31.:25:40.

landscape across the Peak District will be different to that of Brazil.

:25:41.:25:46.

Some fine weather. The second picture, yesterday. And the third, a

:25:47.:25:51.

bright North Yorkshire Moors this afternoon. There will be some

:25:52.:25:54.

brightness to come through the course of the week. Keep your

:25:55.:25:55.

pictures coming in. Tomorrow, an improvement on today,

:25:56.:26:08.

fewer showers and more sunshine. If anywhere is slow to brighten up it

:26:09.:26:12.

will be the Pennines. On Saturday and into Sunday, high pressure

:26:13.:26:16.

building, so there is some dry, settled weather to come on Sunday.

:26:17.:26:20.

You can see an area of low pressure nudging in from the west, bringing

:26:21.:26:24.

cloud on Sunday and windy conditions into Monday as well. Then it will

:26:25.:26:27.

brighten up and settle down next week. We have had if you showers and

:26:28.:26:32.

some of them have been heavy. You can make out the clouds on the

:26:33.:26:37.

satellite picture, you can make out the area of low pressure which will

:26:38.:26:41.

continue to feed in showers over the next few hours. Some could be heavy

:26:42.:26:45.

in the short term. They will tend to become lighter to the end of the

:26:46.:26:50.

night, when temperatures will drop back to 13 degrees, 55 Fahrenheit.

:26:51.:26:55.

In the east we should have some breaks in the cloud developing as we

:26:56.:26:58.

head towards the morning. The sun will rise in the morning at 11

:26:59.:27:03.

minutes past six, setting again soon after seven o'clock. As we go

:27:04.:27:09.

through tomorrow, we will start off with quite a lot of cloud over the

:27:10.:27:13.

Pennines, some showers here, but that will improve. The odd shower

:27:14.:27:17.

anywhere tomorrow but generally dry weather, brightening up with

:27:18.:27:20.

pleasant sunshine. Not quite as breezy as it has been today,

:27:21.:27:25.

either. A light breeze, temperatures reaching where they should be for

:27:26.:27:29.

the time of year, 19 or 20 degrees. 20 is 68 Fahrenheit. Clouding over

:27:30.:27:34.

from the West on Sunday, some early rain clearing to the south on

:27:35.:27:35.

Monday. We are both back with the late news

:27:36.:27:44.

and weather at 10:25pm. Have a lovely evening, goodbye.
