Good evening. so it's goodbye from me, | :00:00. | :00:00.
You're watching Tuesday's Look North. | :00:00. | :00:00.
A BBC investigation reveals the shocking state of some council | :00:00. | :00:09.
houses and how Yorkshire's local authorities are paying | :00:10. | :00:11.
We put this wallpaper up about six months ago and it's completely | :00:12. | :00:18.
mouldy and the wall underneath is completely wet. | :00:19. | :00:23.
We'll hear how claims management companies are targeting tenants | :00:24. | :00:26.
Anger over plans to build a multi-million pound incinerator | :00:27. | :00:33.
in the Aire Valley prompt a public meeting. | :00:34. | :00:41.
And the first timetabled steam train service in England | :00:42. | :00:44.
for nearly 50 years takes to the tracks in North Yorkshire. | :00:45. | :00:49.
Well, at long last, milder air is on the way over the next 24 hours | :00:50. | :00:52.
First tonight, a BBC Yorkshire investigation has revealed that | :00:53. | :01:09.
thousands of council house tenants are living in squalor and in homes | :01:10. | :01:13.
One of our authorities has paid out millions of pounds in compensation | :01:14. | :01:18.
claims for disrepair and one tenant went to court seven times | :01:19. | :01:22.
Over the last five years, councils across England paid | :01:23. | :01:28.
out more than ?35 million in compensation and legal | :01:29. | :01:31.
fees to tenants living in damp or unfit homes. | :01:32. | :01:35.
In Yorkshire the highest pay-out total | :01:36. | :01:38.
was by Leeds Council who handed out ?4.5m, | :01:39. | :01:42.
where they failed to adequately maintain or undertake repairs. | :01:43. | :01:52.
Tonight, the council has defended itself saying its invested millions | :01:53. | :01:55.
in its properties but the age and character | :01:56. | :01:57.
of the homes makes it difficult to avoid damp. | :01:58. | :02:01.
Anna Crossley has this exclusive report. | :02:02. | :02:04.
So, as you can see here, we put this wallpaper up about six months ago | :02:05. | :02:08.
and it's completely mouldy and the wall underneath | :02:09. | :02:13.
And even our shoes are mouldy as well. | :02:14. | :02:20.
Katerina is a student and part-time cleaner. | :02:21. | :02:27.
She pays in Leeds City Council around ?270 a month to | :02:28. | :02:31.
live in a flat which is riddled with mould. | :02:32. | :02:35.
It's now so bad she believes it's making her ill. | :02:36. | :02:38.
Although Katerina hasn't taken the council to court, | :02:39. | :02:41.
She says he and his brother sound like this all the time, | :02:42. | :02:52.
She claims it's because their rented house is still damp. | :02:53. | :02:59.
Two years ago, Ann successfully sued Leeds City Council because the | :03:00. | :03:04.
property was so poorly maintained, but she says the problems remain | :03:05. | :03:08.
so she is taking legal action once again. | :03:09. | :03:11.
Holes in the walls upstairs in both the bathroom and the toilet. | :03:12. | :03:15.
It's just running through the centre of the entire house and at the front | :03:16. | :03:29.
Social housing in Leeds has such a bad reputation | :03:30. | :03:34.
that claims management companies are now targeting the city, | :03:35. | :03:38.
encouraging tenants to take the council to court. | :03:39. | :03:42.
These firms identify properties which are in a poor state | :03:43. | :03:46.
of repair and then for a finder's fee, pass on the tenant's details to | :03:47. | :03:49.
Quite a lot of staining and deterioration in the plaster. | :03:50. | :04:00.
Bobby Kennedy runs a claims management company | :04:01. | :04:02.
and says Ann almost certainly has another case against the council. | :04:03. | :04:05.
We'll just show you the level it goes up to. | :04:06. | :04:07.
The compensation paid to the tenants to replace the things | :04:08. | :04:12.
that have been damaged due to the disrepair in the properties. | :04:13. | :04:14.
The council themselves have an obligation to repair | :04:15. | :04:16.
and when they agree to do the repairs, if they | :04:17. | :04:19.
decide then not to do it and the tenant contacts us again, | :04:20. | :04:22.
then we will get involved again to help the tenant. | :04:23. | :04:24.
Solicitor Nina Patel often takes on Bobby's clients and she | :04:25. | :04:28.
rejects the idea that legal firms are simply cashing in, | :04:29. | :04:31.
arguing that landlords need to be held accountable. | :04:32. | :04:35.
They are very quick to charge rent and evict the clients if | :04:36. | :04:40.
the tenants aren't maintaining the payments, so equally, why can't | :04:41. | :04:44.
these tenants go and get legal advice if their repairs | :04:45. | :04:47.
I don't think it's just about money and profit, | :04:48. | :04:52.
it's more about improving the conditions. | :04:53. | :04:55.
They're paying rent and they shouldn't be living | :04:56. | :04:57.
At a time when council services are being cut | :04:58. | :05:01.
in line with dwindling budgets, many will question why millions | :05:02. | :05:05.
of pounds are being spent on compensation and legal fees | :05:06. | :05:09.
instead of fixing the problems in the first place. | :05:10. | :05:19.
Anna, many people will be shocked that people are living in these | :05:20. | :05:21.
What happened to the tenants since the film? | :05:22. | :05:26.
Well, since filming, Katerina told us that | :05:27. | :05:27.
someone from Leeds City Council has been round to her flat and washed | :05:28. | :05:30.
the mould off the walls, but she is concerned | :05:31. | :05:33.
Unfortunately, Ann's situation remains unresolved, but | :05:34. | :05:38.
she says she now has the backing of her local MP, Rachel Reeves. | :05:39. | :05:42.
And have we heard anything from Leeds Council on this? | :05:43. | :05:45.
Well, unfortunately, no one from the council | :05:46. | :05:47.
but they did give us a statement instead. | :05:48. | :05:50.
They said, we take repair obligations very seriously. | :05:51. | :05:53.
In the last financial year, we have carried out | :05:54. | :05:56.
around 200,000 repairs, over 95% of which were completed | :05:57. | :06:00.
The statement also goes on to say, we would always encourage | :06:01. | :06:06.
tenants to approach us first before pursuing legal action as many of our | :06:07. | :06:14.
tenants may not be aware that firms who claim on their behalf will | :06:15. | :06:17.
typically recover twice as much for themselves in legal costs | :06:18. | :06:20.
A teenager has appeared in court in Leeds today charged | :06:21. | :06:27.
with the murder of a 16-year-old boy in the city. | :06:28. | :06:29.
Irfan Wahid died after he was attacked | :06:30. | :06:31.
Phil Bodmer was in court and has more. | :06:32. | :06:39.
A 16-year-old who can't be named because of his age appearred here | :06:40. | :06:42.
at Leeds Youth Court early this morning. | :06:43. | :06:44.
He is charged with murder and possession of a bladed article, | :06:45. | :06:46.
He appeared in the dock wearing a grey sweatshirt | :06:47. | :06:49.
He was flanked by two security guards. | :06:50. | :06:54.
He spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth. | :06:55. | :06:58.
Police were called to an address on Harehills Lane in Leeds | :06:59. | :07:00.
16-year-old Irfan Wahid was taken to hospital for treatment | :07:01. | :07:06.
A postmortem examination conducted on Sunday | :07:07. | :07:11.
confirmed the cause of death as a single stab wood to the chest. | :07:12. | :07:16.
Flowers were laid at the scene as police enquiries into what happened | :07:17. | :07:19.
District Judge Adrian Lower remanded the youth | :07:20. | :07:25.
into custody, pending an appearance at | :07:26. | :07:28.
Leeds Crown Court on Thursday the 16th of February. | :07:29. | :07:36.
Meanwhile, a 34-year-old man has appeared before | :07:37. | :07:38.
Leeds Magistrates charged with the murder of a man also | :07:39. | :07:40.
Bartlomiej Dedek was remanded in custody and will appear | :07:41. | :07:46.
Three other men and a woman have been released without charge. | :07:47. | :07:53.
A Leeds lawyer and former Ukip parliamentary candidate has | :07:54. | :07:56.
won his appeal against allegations he "pestered" women at a work party. | :07:57. | :08:01.
Barrister Stephen Howd was charged with misconduct | :08:02. | :08:03.
after the social event at Zenith Chambers in Leeds | :08:04. | :08:06.
He was later fined ?1800 by a disciplinary tribunal. | :08:07. | :08:11.
But a High Court judge ruled today that his "inappropriate" behaviour | :08:12. | :08:15.
Birds of prey will be used to scare away gulls | :08:16. | :08:24.
in Scarborough and Whitby, after councillors approved | :08:25. | :08:26.
Herring gull nests and eggs will also be removed | :08:27. | :08:29.
A company called NBC Environment will carry out the work, | :08:30. | :08:35.
with their contract starting from next month. | :08:36. | :08:37.
The council says the measures are needed because of nuisance | :08:38. | :08:39.
complaints and so-called "gull muggings." | :08:40. | :08:44.
Charlotte's meeting those helping some of Yorkshire's lonely hearts. | :08:45. | :08:50.
Happy Valentine's Day from Wakefield. | :08:51. | :08:52.
We're having a cup of tea, enjoying some cake, | :08:53. | :08:54.
making friends in a scheme designed to combat loneliness | :08:55. | :08:58.
Homeowners near Keighley say their lives have been put | :08:59. | :09:11.
on hold as they wait to hear whether a giant incinerator | :09:12. | :09:14.
will be built next to their properties. | :09:15. | :09:18.
They're worried the ?135 million plant | :09:19. | :09:20.
at Thwaites will cause pollution, noise and ruin the landscape | :09:21. | :09:24.
and have organised a public meeting this evening to highlight the issue. | :09:25. | :09:27.
But councillors say the site will create jobs | :09:28. | :09:30.
Nestled in the Aire Valley, Charlotte says one of the reasons | :09:31. | :09:37.
she chose to live here was because of the view, | :09:38. | :09:40.
but soon that few could include a waste incinerator | :09:41. | :09:42.
Lots of people round here have children | :09:43. | :09:52.
We don't know ultimately what's coming out of that facility | :09:53. | :09:58.
and whether it will actually have a really negative impact on our | :09:59. | :10:01.
It's thought the move will create hundreds of jobs and building work | :10:02. | :10:05.
has already started to clear the area. | :10:06. | :10:08.
But Charlotte isn't the only unhappy local. | :10:09. | :10:11.
More than 5000 people have joined a Facebook group | :10:12. | :10:13.
supporting her campaign including neighbour, Roland. | :10:14. | :10:18.
It's a beautiful landscape with rolling hillsides and farmland | :10:19. | :10:22.
but also its unknown publisher and that's | :10:23. | :10:26.
going to be emitted from the incinerator. | :10:27. | :10:29.
Most incinerators in the UK are household waste. | :10:30. | :10:31.
This is designated for commercial waste and | :10:32. | :10:33.
We just don't know what the health impact is going to be. | :10:34. | :10:45.
It was last week that permission was granted to build that | :10:46. | :10:47.
But since then, there's been good news for campaigners. | :10:48. | :10:51.
Bradford City Council say that plan has now been | :10:52. | :10:53.
Sajid Javid, the Secretary of State for local | :10:54. | :10:56.
Government, is looking at the proposals and it will be up | :10:57. | :10:59.
Bradford Council says the plant is unlikely to | :11:00. | :11:02.
The pollution concerns fall under the | :11:03. | :11:04.
Environment Agency's permitting process. | :11:05. | :11:06.
But Charlotte and her neighbours still have a lot of questions. | :11:07. | :11:10.
They are holding a meeting tonight, and there hope to get some answers | :11:11. | :11:13.
and save the landscape that they love. | :11:14. | :11:19.
And we'll bring you the latest from the meeting on our | :11:20. | :11:21.
Imagine if you could find a bank that didn't charge you any interest | :11:22. | :11:28.
on your mortgage or loans and promised not to invest in | :11:29. | :11:30.
That's the policy of a new bank that's | :11:31. | :11:39.
The Al Rayan says it offers financial products and services | :11:40. | :11:42.
that comply with its customers' Islamic beliefs. | :11:43. | :11:44.
Our reporter Gaggan Sabherwal has been finding out more about this | :11:45. | :11:46.
Talha Laher is a manager at Chicanos in Bradford and has always | :11:47. | :11:54.
looking at opportunities to expand his business. | :11:55. | :11:58.
But in the past, he has struggled to do that as it meant | :11:59. | :12:02.
he would have had to compromise on his Islamic beliefs. | :12:03. | :12:05.
This is what we've been looking for for a very long time. | :12:06. | :12:14.
And as soon as it came into Bradford, it was like, | :12:15. | :12:17.
As well as not charging interest, Islamic banks | :12:18. | :12:21.
also follow an ethical style of banking which prohibits it from | :12:22. | :12:25.
investing in alcohol, gambling, tobacco and pronography. | :12:26. | :12:29.
With customers that apply for home purchase plans, | :12:30. | :12:36.
we buy that property in partnership with those customers, and they, | :12:37. | :12:41.
on a monthly basis, will pay us an acquisition payment | :12:42. | :12:43.
and at the same time we have a rental agreement with | :12:44. | :12:46.
them whereby people pay a fair rent to us. | :12:47. | :12:48.
For customers that save and invest money with us, then we will | :12:49. | :12:51.
invest in those monies in certain areas such as property or | :12:52. | :12:54.
commodities, normally metal, and through that transaction, make a | :12:55. | :12:58.
fair profit and we share that profit with our customers. | :12:59. | :13:02.
This children's nursery has also benefited from the bank. | :13:03. | :13:06.
It's allowed us to be able to expand our business, borrow finance | :13:07. | :13:09.
if we need to and obviously get the help and support from them | :13:10. | :13:12.
But just how safe is Islamic banking? | :13:13. | :13:16.
Because it's asset-backed, not asset-based, | :13:17. | :13:18.
They follow the same rules and regulations | :13:19. | :13:24.
In fact more, because they also have to comply | :13:25. | :13:29.
Al Rayan has plans to open more branches across the country and | :13:30. | :13:34.
We tend to think of some of them as dusty old places filled | :13:35. | :13:50.
with stuffed animals and ancient artefacts but the latest exhibition | :13:51. | :13:53.
to open in Wakefield is anything but! | :13:54. | :13:56.
It is in fact a celebration of one of Yorkshire's | :13:57. | :13:59.
biggest music exports, Wakefield band the Cribs. | :14:00. | :14:02.
Shamir Masri's been for a look round. | :14:03. | :14:13.
Now in their 15th year, the Cribs are celebrating their ongoing | :14:14. | :14:19.
success with an exhibition of artefacts in Wakefield one which | :14:20. | :14:23.
houses council officers, the town's library but also the museum. The | :14:24. | :14:27.
three brothers have kept Wakefield close to their hearts and this | :14:28. | :14:32.
exhibition features some rare and delicate artefacts. Now, for this | :14:33. | :14:35.
exhibition, they've really push the boat out. They even have a life-size | :14:36. | :14:39.
waxwork of Ross, the drummer, in this window box. The other guys have | :14:40. | :14:48.
been away, so I've basically just been pestering my mum and dad. A lot | :14:49. | :14:54.
of the old stuff, but it gets from the first gigs be ever did, been | :14:55. | :14:57.
tearing through the cupboards and finding interesting bits and bits | :14:58. | :15:00.
and pieces and stuff. We always see our instruments as tools. Like a | :15:01. | :15:05.
blacksmith would see his tools or whatever. The stuff that has been | :15:06. | :15:09.
away in storage and stuff, it has been nice to let it see the light of | :15:10. | :15:13.
day and share it with people too. The exhibition is designed to inform | :15:14. | :15:19.
and inspire. If you haven't got a guitar, you can strum a friend. I | :15:20. | :15:24.
like the idea that I've seen a lot of people bringing their kids, just | :15:25. | :15:27.
passing through, it would be great if some kids solvers, and went away | :15:28. | :15:32.
and formed a band. That would be a fitting legacy. They are proud of | :15:33. | :15:35.
their ribs and it's fantastic that all of the world people know | :15:36. | :15:38.
Wakefield through the cat microbes. I think it's fantastic. If you want | :15:39. | :15:46.
to see the band in the flesh, they are on tour in May, including a show | :15:47. | :15:53.
at Leeds arena. I think the thing we will inspire most is people with | :15:54. | :15:58.
library cards showing up at the next show may be! It might appeal to the | :15:59. | :16:02.
older demographic or something. Maybe that is what will come of | :16:03. | :16:06.
this. We will soon see. The exhibition is free for all and runs | :16:07. | :16:14.
until July. I've just been told their biggest hit is called Hey | :16:15. | :16:16.
Seamstress. A new exhibit has been installed at | :16:17. | :16:24.
the Yorkshire Sculpture Park today. It's called Caldara | :16:25. | :16:28.
and was created by the leading His biggest ever UK exhibition opens | :16:29. | :16:30.
on the 4th of March, when visitors can view the seven | :16:31. | :16:33.
tonne sculpture and others across the park for one | :16:34. | :16:37.
of their biggest shows of the year. Caldera is an amazing piece | :16:38. | :16:42.
that you can see here I think we've been on this for four | :16:43. | :16:46.
and a half hours to get it to this stage and it's going to be | :16:47. | :16:52.
another hour or two before we get it in, | :16:53. | :16:54.
but I hadn't realised that | :16:55. | :16:56.
it's actually two figures almost kissing and I didn't | :16:57. | :16:58.
realise you could actually get They Have Been Worked There For | :16:59. | :17:11.
Ages. It Takes Such A Long Time To Install All These Little Bits. | :17:12. | :17:12.
Really time consuming. Sports now. Sheffield's Kell Brook is returning | :17:13. | :17:17.
to welterweight to defend his world title against American | :17:18. | :17:19.
Errol Spence Jr. Kell hasn't fought since being | :17:20. | :17:21.
beaten by middleweight, Terms have been agreed | :17:22. | :17:23.
with Spence for a fight in May, which could take place | :17:24. | :17:27.
at Bramall Lane. Now how far would you go | :17:28. | :17:31.
to raise money for charity? Well, Sheffield Wednesday fan | :17:32. | :17:34.
Ian Toothill has been given just months to live because of cancer | :17:35. | :17:38.
and he's going to climb Everest! He's thought to be the only cancer | :17:39. | :17:45.
sufferer attempting to reach the top, and has even pledged | :17:46. | :17:48.
to plant a Sheffield United flag at the summit after a friend, | :17:49. | :17:52.
who's a Blades fan, Ian collected the flag | :17:53. | :17:55.
at Bramall Lane today and hopes to raise a quarter of a million | :17:56. | :18:00.
pounds for MacMillan Cancer Support. I got a text from a friend saying, | :18:01. | :18:07.
how do you do need? I sent a text with the | :18:08. | :18:10.
donation site and I said, if you put ?1000, I will | :18:11. | :18:16.
put a Sheffield United And I'm a Sheffield Wednesday | :18:17. | :18:18.
fan and I said it as a complete joke and maybe two minutes | :18:19. | :18:22.
later, I got a screenshot of ?1000 into the account and just a simple | :18:23. | :18:26.
one line phrase saying, I'll wait to see the Blades | :18:27. | :18:29.
flag on top of Everest. And the next 20 texts are just me | :18:30. | :18:33.
swearing, basically! Good luck, Ian! We really do wish | :18:34. | :18:45.
him all the very best. All true football fans will support him as | :18:46. | :18:47.
well. It can't have escaped your attention | :18:48. | :18:47.
that it's Valentine's Day. I can picture the scene in your | :18:48. | :18:53.
house August morning as you came down and there was a dozen roses | :18:54. | :18:57.
waiting for you before you made breakfast? | :18:58. | :19:00.
You might have to just imagine that! Too early babies are a passion | :19:01. | :19:02.
killer. But all that talk of roses | :19:03. | :19:02.
and romance can be quite depressing if you happen to be | :19:03. | :19:05.
on your own or feeling isolated. In fact, over half of 75-year-olds | :19:06. | :19:08.
are living alone. So with that in mind, | :19:09. | :19:10.
Age UK organised a Valentine's tea party at the Ridings Shopping Centre | :19:11. | :19:13.
in Wakefield today. We sent Charlotte Leeming along | :19:14. | :19:15.
for a cuppa and a slice of cake. On Valentine's Day, it's all about | :19:16. | :19:28.
hearts and flowers and the pressure to be romantic. But this time of | :19:29. | :19:31.
year also brings loneliness into sharp focus and figures from age UK | :19:32. | :19:37.
savers more than 2 million older people come out dissenters like this | :19:38. | :19:41.
simply so they've got a reason to be free house and someone to talk to. | :19:42. | :19:52.
what better way to make new friends than over a cup of tea and a slice | :19:53. | :19:59.
of cake? Their Wakefield branch of Age UK today put on a free afternoon | :20:00. | :20:03.
tea at the riding centre to encourage people to socialise. | :20:04. | :20:06.
Cousins Pat and Pauline are in their 80s. They both lost their husbands | :20:07. | :20:10.
but to make sure they don't feel isolated, they always make sure they | :20:11. | :20:15.
are busy. I go to an arthritic club once a month and we go off on trips | :20:16. | :20:24.
and see people. Yeah. Keep busy. Look after my daughter's., walk it. | :20:25. | :20:30.
You always have someone to talk to? Myself if nobody else! And I answer | :20:31. | :20:36.
myself! Your cousin Pauline is here as well. Lane, what do you think | :20:37. | :20:40.
about this scheme? Just to make sure that other people are not isolated? | :20:41. | :20:44.
I think they should get up and get out a little bit. People that can | :20:45. | :20:52.
like Pat and I, once a month, chat and Coffey and then go home because | :20:53. | :20:56.
we are both on a roll now. It is not always that easy as lacking | :20:57. | :20:59.
confidence can be a real issue as you get older and lose loved ones. | :21:00. | :21:05.
Pharaonic adds more's husband died three years ago. Since then, trips | :21:06. | :21:08.
to the shop have been her only social outings. You make friends, | :21:09. | :21:12.
but when you get older, you lose your friends. They die off and then | :21:13. | :21:16.
you are left on your own. There are no friends left and you just don't | :21:17. | :21:22.
know what to do until this happens. It's been absolutely perfect. It's | :21:23. | :21:26.
been lovely. It's Valentines, shall we have a dance? Come on. Cupcakes, | :21:27. | :21:31.
company and caring. No lonely hearts with these shoppers this Valentine's | :21:32. | :21:44.
Day. Just new friends and fun. I'm sure she made a few people's | :21:45. | :21:46.
Valentines today. What could be more romantic | :21:47. | :21:48.
for Valentine's Day than a ride on an historic steam train on one | :21:49. | :21:51.
of the most scenic railways Today, passengers on the Settle | :21:52. | :21:54.
and Carlisle railway were treated to a ride in the style of a bygone | :21:55. | :21:57.
era as part of the timetabled service and all for the price | :21:58. | :22:00.
of a regular ticket. Tom Ingall was on board | :22:01. | :22:03.
for a brief encounter Backwards to the future. A clamour | :22:04. | :22:21.
on Appleby railway platform this morning, not just for this team, you | :22:22. | :22:26.
understand, but for the occasion. How much called you have two shovel | :22:27. | :22:30.
today? We have seven tonnes and we will probably use more most of it. I | :22:31. | :22:37.
hope you've had your breakfast! A full English! A flash of water and | :22:38. | :22:42.
off towards Skipton along the remote testament to the human determination | :22:43. | :22:45.
that is the Cecil and Carlisle railway. Sunday, August the 11th | :22:46. | :22:53.
1968 Starc it was right here almost half a century ago that Britain | :22:54. | :22:59.
waved goodbye to timetabled scene. Yes, there have been many steam | :23:00. | :23:02.
hauled excursion since then, but you would normally pay a premium price | :23:03. | :23:09.
and have to book in advance. Today, selected scheduled diesel trains | :23:10. | :23:13.
have actually been replaced by steam and what makes this steamy surprise | :23:14. | :23:16.
sweeter is you still pay the normal fare. The engine chuffing out a new | :23:17. | :23:23.
chapter in railway history today is Tornado. It wasn't even built when | :23:24. | :23:28.
steam first came along but then, neither were some of the customers. | :23:29. | :23:34.
It's very good. Why is it so good? Because when I go on steam trains, I | :23:35. | :23:39.
travelled the world and I see new places. The morning Sunrise has been | :23:40. | :23:46.
shown across the valleys. It's been absolutely beautiful. We have been | :23:47. | :23:50.
enjoying every minute of it. Who is your travelling companion? This is | :23:51. | :23:55.
my grandson Joseph. What you make of it so far, joseph? I think it's very | :23:56. | :24:02.
exciting. And I've enjoyed it as much as everybody should. But Peter | :24:03. | :24:07.
Taylor was here back in 68. Like me, on a train, he loves ticking off the | :24:08. | :24:11.
miles on a map. What were those last days of steam like? Izod combination | :24:12. | :24:15.
of exciting and very sad. You thought you would never see it | :24:16. | :24:20.
again. Are you surprised that you we are riding on a timetabled steam | :24:21. | :24:24.
train today? Yes, but very pleased. I have come up from Maidstone just | :24:25. | :24:31.
to travel on these trains. Now, this is my idea of a romantic Valentine's | :24:32. | :24:35.
Day. Riding the rails across the roof of the Pennines, watching the | :24:36. | :24:39.
steamy mix with the clouds that are clinging to snowclad mountain tops. | :24:40. | :24:43.
It is poetic. You should stick that in a greetings card. Something | :24:44. | :24:47.
rather ancient and romantic about it, isn't there? Balls that is no | :24:48. | :24:55.
way to talk about your better half! Nice day out, isn't it? You look in | :24:56. | :25:02.
fused, Sir! That's just my natural expression. I bet that expression | :25:03. | :25:07.
changed when he saw this. There is no greater monument to the iron | :25:08. | :25:12.
road. There is no better way to see it. This is no dream. There is no | :25:13. | :25:17.
need to wake up. Steam usurped diesel and it was magic. | :25:18. | :25:25.
What a wonderful piece that was, thank you very much. | :25:26. | :25:29.
I would have loved to have gone on that. Thank you for the Roses, they | :25:30. | :25:35.
were unnecessary but beautiful. Then I will take them back, I've | :25:36. | :25:36.
kept the receipt! Let's look at some pictures that | :25:37. | :25:46.
came in in the last few hours. You can't see the viaduct there, but | :25:47. | :25:49.
what a stunning date has been up there. I was filming this morning | :25:50. | :25:52.
and it was absolutely beautiful. Snow over the tops. The second | :25:53. | :25:56.
picture is Whitby rookie beautiful as well. Keep them coming in. | :25:57. | :26:06.
The main thrust of the forecast is for mild air to come up from the | :26:07. | :26:12.
South West in the next 24 hours. Let's have a look at the graphics if | :26:13. | :26:17.
they are working? Cloudy and milder. The mild air will be with us not | :26:18. | :26:21.
just the second half of this week but early next week with | :26:22. | :26:25.
temperatures in eastern areas reaching 16 degrees perhaps. Good | :26:26. | :26:28.
news. A touch of spring early next week. West and is becoming | :26:29. | :26:31.
established and in the next few days. We are looking at this weather | :26:32. | :26:42.
fronts that will bring cloud up from the South West over the next few | :26:43. | :26:45.
hours so after a fine start, it will cloud over and we will see just a | :26:46. | :26:48.
little patch of light rain and drizzle. Amounts will be pretty | :26:49. | :26:50.
small. Frost free with some listeners over the hills and we will | :26:51. | :26:53.
see temperatures are four or five Celsius. That is 45 in Fahrenheit. A | :26:54. | :26:56.
quick look at high water times and sunrise. I think tomorrow morning is | :26:57. | :27:04.
cloudy, damp and places. Mr mist over the hills. Skies will brighten | :27:05. | :27:09.
just a little bit in the morning but then in the afternoon, thick cloud | :27:10. | :27:13.
once again bringing patchy bricks of rain. North-eastwards across most | :27:14. | :27:16.
areas or adapt enter the day. Let's look at top temperatures. Double | :27:17. | :27:21.
figures just about everywhere across Yorkshire. 10 Celsius, 50 | :27:22. | :27:25.
Fahrenheit. There might be the old 11 in places, 52 Fahrenheit. Breezy | :27:26. | :27:31.
with some showers possible. We keep that team into next week and then | :27:32. | :27:34.
potentially exceptionally mild into the early part of next week and that | :27:35. | :27:37.
is the forecast. Thank you very much. That is it from | :27:38. | :27:42.
us. Aromatic cuppa soup for one for me tonight! Enjoy that. There | :27:43. | :27:48. |
