On the programme tonight: The family of a seven-year-old girl killed

Four months after Katie Rough's death, her parents say

they want to thank the community for their support.

We have had support from the local community but also all over the

world, hundreds of letters and messages, and people have been so

kind, and we wanted to say thank you.

500 tonnes of plastic are on fire in Rotherham,

with residents warned not to leave their homes.

Bradford City are off to Wembley again -

we'll tell you how the Bantams secured their place

We are at the largest climbing wall in the country,

It looks like another predominantly dry week across Yorkshire,

with hints of something a little bit more unsettled, though,

The parents of Katie Rough, the seven-year-old who died

after being found with severe injuries on a playing field

in York in January, have given their first interview.

Paul and Alison Rough have also thanked the community

for its support, and said they couldn't have coped without it.

We've got each other, and we've got a good family network...

Work helps a bit, doesn't it, to work?

Yeah, work is keeping me busy as well.

And the bond between you is a strength, isn't it?

Some might say, why did you feel the need to do this interview?

We are doing this to promote a fun day at the Acorn Rugby Club

that we are holding on the 9th of June from 5pm.

Most of it is free, the majority of it is free.

It is a thank you to the people of York for all of their support.

We have had support from the local community,

but also all over the world, hundreds of letters, and messages.

People have just been so kind and we just wanted to say thank you.

We get a lot of people, we don't know them, and they come up

and introduce themselves and they have got sad

stories themselves, or they just give us a cuddle.

We go to York City Church, we have had a lot of support from them.

Our meals for the first month and a half.

They fed us for the first few weeks, if it weren't for them

But they came with meals and things...

And obviously the Archbishop has been...

He has been visiting and kept in touch, and made

Tell us something about your little girl.

Katie, she was... Amazing.

Yeah, she was shy, out, you know, with other people,

She was just your typical seven-year-old girl.

She liked to snuggle up in bed at night.

She used to sleep in our bed nearly every night -

even though she was seven, she was still sneaking

The pink bunny has been with Katie since she was 12 days old.

Every week when he got her pocket money on the Friday,

But she always went back to this one.

This was the original and this was the one she always went back to.

The pink rabbit stayed with her while she was

in the funeral home, and it stayed with her

until the very last minute and then came back to us.

The pink rabbit means a lot to us. Where do you think you will get your

strength over the weeks ahead? The family and each other.

Yes, close family. We bounce off each other, so when one is

struggling the other is a bit stronger, and if I am struggling, he

is stronger for me and vice versa. Yes, we have each other, don't we?

A teenage girl is going to stand trial for Katie's murder in July.

Next tonight, a fire at a recycling centre in Rotherham has caused

disruption to the local area, after 500 tonnes of

People were told to stay inside and keep windows and doors

closed, and to get children inside as soon as

This was the scene across parts of Rotherham for most of the day -

thick black smoke billowing from the Universal Recycling Factory

in Kilnhurst, where 500 tonnes of plastic caught fire around

Nearby schools and nurseries were told to keep their children

indoors, and police handed out facemasks as a safety precaution.

They have just popped in and out to make sure we are all right.

They have been escorting parents down from the church when the roads

were blocked off from traffic, so they have escorted children

down into the nursery, but masks on and escorted

They have taken a list of all of the children that

They have been really, really good and gave

us loads of facemasks and been really helpful.

Residents in this area have been asked to stay inside

and keep their doors and windows closed.

Those who have had to leave their premises have been issued

with masks so that they don't breathe in the smoke,

And those living nearest the fire are not being

I have just been speaking to Environmental Health,

who say that we are not actually going to be allowed on site

until tomorrow morning, so we have got to find alternative

The Fire Service are taking the lead and we are supporting them

with the ambulance to make sure everybody is safe.

And all of the properties are protected to that we can return

the community to a state of normality as quickly

And it wasn't just people who were affected -

many residents rushed back home, concerned for their pets.

The Fire Services say they have managed to contain the blaze,

but it could be a while yet before it is extinguished.

We have switched from using foam to using water,

and we are using copious amounts of water to try to get

to the heart of the fire, but it is going to be some time

Tonight those living close to the scene are waiting

for the all clear so that they can return to normality,

We'll meet the singer who became an internet hit after joining

in with a busker on a night out in Leeds.

York has been chosen to host a special election TV programme

featuring the Prime Minister and the Labour leader

In the Question Time Special, Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn

will answer questions from an invited audience.

At the last General Election in 2015, Leeds was the venue

for a similar programme involving the party leaders.

Our political reporter, James Vincent, joins us from York.

Lovely setting there, but white Yorkshire began?

As you know, when York was a Roman city, it was the centre about

literally everything in the North of England, the military and politics.

A couple of thousand years later, the centre of debating this

election. North Yorkshire is completely conservative, back from

where I am standing now, York Central. The Labour MP here has a

majority of around 7000 votes. Labour will be helping to keep this

place. Conservatives are also eyeing it up. It is like a microcosm of the

election in Yorkshire. What can the Labour Party hold on to? And what

can be Tories nick from them? Two years ago we had the debate at Leeds

hole. The leaders there faced questions from the public and had a

rough ride from the people of Yorkshire, tough questions and

interesting answers as well. That is one reason why the BBC want to come

back to Yorkshire to do it again. We chose York for a whole

load of reasons. We like to spread these

programmes around the country, and we felt that one

of the important points was to get out of London,

take the leaders outside London, and then to look for a major centre

that isn't massively leaning historically one way or the other

electorally, and York has been a Conservative city and a Labour

city over the years, so it felt like a really good

opportunity to come to York. And we know that we will get

a very good audience - we always do when we bring debate

programmes to the north of England. There has been some criticism about

the fact that Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn are not debating head to

head. Yes, there has been a debate about

the debate, Theresa May says she does not want to do a debate on

Jeremy Corbyn has called her chicken and says she is running scared.

Theresa May says she would rather go out and meet bloggers. That is

exactly what you will be doing, one microphone, to leaders and a

Yorkshire audience asking them questions. The leaders got a hard

time last time, with her questions. I would recommend getting into your

diary now, and watching it for the election. It is on June the 2nd,

this programme. Detectives have described

the disappearance of a woman in West Yorkshire

as a ''genuine mystery." 40-year-old Svitlana Krasnoselska

vanished from her home Police say that, despite their

inquiries, there have been no She's known to her friends as Lana

during the event on April 30th. He suffered serious injuries

and died six days later. Anyone with information is asked

but now this former grain silo is looking to be the best

We sent our intrepid reporter Charlotte Leeming,

and our even braver cameraman Gareth Trow, along to to

It is a tall and terrifying tower on the side of an old grain silo in

Brighouse, the UK's Collis climbing wall. Bigger than the Angel of the

North, 136 metres. Designed to attract seasoned professionals and

daredevil amateurs, and as someone who has never climb before I am the

latter. I thought I had a head for heights but it is difficult on the

upper body. Let's keep going as far as we can.

Go on, push yourself. Stand up. Trust yourself.

The wall is the brainchild of you admit noble who took up climbing at

40 years old. He loved it so much he opened a climbing centre and bought

this part would make an epic challenge. He was not wrong. What

possessed you to build this? A love of climbing. I got into it

late in life, and some of these silos, I saw them nine years ago and

thought, wow, it would be great to claim on the face of this are inside

it even. This is iconic. And the biggest in the country, so crazy not

to climb on them. You feel wonderful. It is my first

time claiming here, and I do not think we are even halfway up, but we

are trying. You must keep climbing with your

likes and drive and not let your mind takeover.

My mind has taken over. But I know I am in safe hands. Luke Murphy in the

climbing team for Great Britain, he gets a bit in under two minutes.

Climbing for the Olympics in the first time in 2020, this climbing

wall could help to breed champions. A big step climbing, which has

always been a hippy dippy sports... It is good it is taking a more

serious turn, but still fun for everyone.

I'm not sure about fun, for mere mortals like me it is an achievement

to overcome beer and tiredness and get to the top. We made it! Thank

you! -- to overcome the air and tiredness. Now the easy bit, getting

down. Well done.

with her singing voice after a video of her joining in with a busker went

Jade Helliwell was on a night out with friends in Leeds

when they encouraged her to sing a song with the busker.

The resulting video has now been viewed more than 15 million

That really is something. That is lovely. If my friends asked me to

sing with a busker, I would tell them to sling their work. What was

going through your mind? We had been out earlier in the

afternoon, so that may have helped persuade me... But yes, I have been

singing for years, so when we saw the busker playing, we listen to him

and got talking to him, and my friend was like, let her sing a song

with you. He was reluctant at first and then he let me join in.

What have the last eight days been like?

Crazy. It has been the maddest week of my life, but really good.

I can sing that song, but not in the same key. Your EP went into the

chart, just behind Ed shearer and's album. What was the background?

I released the EP back in October and it charted at number two in the

iTunes country charts at number 47 in the iTunes album charts, and with

the attention this week from the video, the EP went back into the

charts and went to number one in the country charts at number eight in

the album charts. It has been crazy. You should be on one of these, sort,

talent shows, shouldn't you? Would you fancy doing that?

I got some messages asking me to go on Britain's Talent, I personally I

don't think that sort of thing is the right choice for me.

You have been singing for a long time.

I started at about 11 years old... Some years ago.

This is the EP? Yes, this is a song from the EP, a

studio video of us performing the songs.

I would ask about the busker... He was pretty good. What will happen as

far as that is concerned? I have been in touch with him, and

we have decided that like I am putting together a gig on the 18th

of June, at the Warehouse 23 in Wakefield, tickets go on sale this

Friday at ten o'clock, and I invited him to play a spot at the gate, and

we might be able to join forces. Immediately, more immediately, what

do you hope to do? As of today, I announced I signed up

with a management company, so I will be going to London this week and

setting up some meetings, so fingers crossed things will keep going.

look at the top averages. Still chilly along the coast at eight or

nine Celsius. Glad when you get rid of the north-easterly wind in

Scarborough, but inland we are looking at 13 Celsius. Numerically

not different from Edward today but very little rain so it should feel

more pleasant. Somewhat warmer on Wednesday and Thursday, all parts

will be dry with some sunshine, and Wednesday in particular looks lovely

at 16 Celsius or possibly 17 Celsius with a light breeze. South-easterly

wind on Thursday, important because of the weather front, governing self

and a risk of useful rain particularly later on Friday.
