In the last few minutes, the New Year's Honours list

It includes scores of men and women from our region.

Especially well represented is the field of sport,

with Olympians and Paralympians being honoured for their efforts,

but men and women from all walks of life feature too,

COMMENTATOR: An absolutely sensational performance!

2016 was a great year for Yorkshire sport and,

having picked up medals and trophies galore, our region's sports men

and women feature heavily in the honours list.

Heptathlete Jessica Ennis-Hill gets the highest of the honours.

Nicola Adams, the Leeds boxer, is awarded an OBE,

MBEs go to a clutch of medal-winning athletes,

including Olympic divers Jack Law and Chris Mears.

Paralympian Kadeena Cox is also awarded an MBE after fighting back

from multiple sclerosis to resume a sporting career, winning medals

for both sprinting and cycling at the Paralympics this year.

The medals you dream about, but then, being the flagbearer,

I didn't expect that. Then being nominated for Sport Aid.

I didn't expect that. And now this.

I'm just, wow, these things are, like, things I just didn't expect!

You dream of winning the medals, but all this is just an absolute

honour and more than the cherry on the top, I guess!

Also awarded MBEs are Paralympic Tandem partners

Steven Bate and Adam Duggleby, and table tennis champion

Will Bayley from Rotherham has plenty more to jump about.

He can also now put the letters MBE after his name.

Off the sports field, the Mayor of Doncaster, Ros Jones,

is awarded a CBE for services to local government.

From more ordinary walks of life, Pinderfields Hospital's Play

Specialist, Tracy Foster, who helps children with burns, has

And finally, and very poignantly, Norman Rimington,

who died yesterday, was awarded a British Empire Medal

for his devotion to Barnsley and its football club.

He did know about his honour and the club is planning

Detectives investigating an incident, where a police officer

and member of the public were shot at in Bradford,

have released dramatic footage of the moment it happened.

Two shots were fired at a police car in the early hours

of Christmas Day as officers dealt with a disturbance.

Armed raids were carried out this morning,

and a 21-year-old man has been arrested.

or who recognise the car which was later found burned

on a fairly grey note. There will be a lot of cloud around,

it's quite a mild start, but the cloud is going to break,

so, by the afternoon, most parts will actually see

some spells of sunshine. But it isn't going to last long,

because, heading into the evening, we start to see some rain

pushing in from the north. Tomorrow's top temperature,

though, on the mild side, around 9-10 degrees Celsius,

with a fairly brisk westerly breeze. Now, as we head through Saturday

night and towards New Year's Day, we have this weather front bringing

outbreaks of rain and it looks like, by midnight, that rain

is going to be with most of us. So it will be quite

a soggy start to 2017. During the day on Sunday,

it will dry up, but it is going to be feeling colder and brighter

with highs of four degrees. Not too bad. That is it from the
