The diocese of Sheffield has chosen a new bishop,

and this one agrees that women should become priests.

The first choice for the post, Philip North, didn't think

women should be ordained, and, after protests,

The next choice, the Very Reverend Dr Pete Wilcox,

Today, the diocese of Sheffield unveiled their new, new bishop,

He's coming across from Liverpool and he's got a pretty big job to do.

These are unusual circumstances, and not circumstances

Clearly, the events which have led up to today don't reflect

It's been a tough few months for the Church here -

a new bishop was announced in January.

Philip North was the first choice for the job -

the problem was he thinks women shouldn't be priests,

and it seemed most of Sheffield disagreed.

There were protests, and last month he decided

the top job at Sheffield Cathedral wasn't for him.

So, onto the second choice, the Very Reverend Pete Wilcox,

and the answer to everyone's first question.

and I am also looking forward very much to ordaining both

women and men as priests in this diocese.

but what about the damage the whole process has done to the Church?

There will now be an inquiry to work out how we got to this point.

I think what's been really interesting is that, as a diocese,

There is a sense of unity and purpose as we look at our vision

but we can't deny the fact there has been a lot of hurt

The new bishop of Sheffield will be consecrated this summer in York.

He's won three races so far this season,

including the Grimthorpe Chase at Doncaster,

when he powered ahead of the field and won by 14 lengths.

Brian is used to seeing his horses crossed the line first.

He has had over 1,000 winners in his career,

but he's never trained the winner of the most famous race of all,

the Grand National - not yet, anyway.

and I think he's ran about 19 and won ten,
