Survivors call for West Midlands Police to face charges over how | :00:00. | :00:00.
the Hillsborough investigation was handled. | :00:07. | :00:10.
They wanted to blame drunken ticketless hooligans, that was the | :00:11. | :00:12.
tactic that they set up to cover South Yorkshire, they were in it | :00:13. | :00:15.
The police watchdog, the IPCC, has sent files | :00:16. | :00:23.
Cricketing pioneer and always first in to bat for her | :00:24. | :00:32.
For a woman who's grown up in sport she was such a trailblazer, and I | :00:33. | :00:39.
think every citizen in Wolverhampton and beyond will miss her greatly. | :00:40. | :00:44.
Wound up about plans for 200 new homes next door | :00:45. | :00:47.
A tribute to Norton - plans to protect and preserve | :00:48. | :00:55.
the grave of motorbike racing royalty. | :00:56. | :00:57.
And if you thought today was cold then today was just the transition | :00:58. | :01:01.
to even colder conditions by tonight, and tomorrow onwards. | :01:02. | :01:04.
Our top story tonight comes from survivors of Hillsborough | :01:05. | :01:20.
who say they're hopeful prosecutions will be brought against | :01:21. | :01:22.
West Midlands Police officers who investigated the 1989 disaster. | :01:23. | :01:24.
96 Liverpool fans died as a result of a crush on the terraces | :01:25. | :01:27.
After a long inquiry into the conduct of both | :01:28. | :01:36.
the South Yorkshire and West Midlands forces, | :01:37. | :01:40.
the Independent Police Complaints Commission has sent files | :01:41. | :01:43.
April last year. It felt like the final chapter. | :01:44. | :01:54.
An inquest jury at last agreeing with the families, | :01:55. | :01:57.
the 96 victims of the Hillsborough disaster | :01:58. | :01:59.
Questions persist though about the police, not just | :02:00. | :02:08.
the South Yorkshire officers there on the day, but also the West | :02:09. | :02:11.
Midlands officers brought in afterwards to investigate. | :02:12. | :02:13.
to deal with what I had to deal with. | :02:14. | :02:18.
Debra Martin admits she has no fondness for the police, | :02:19. | :02:20.
and yet at one time in her life policing was all she wanted to do. | :02:21. | :02:24.
She was a special constable on duty that day at Hillsborough. | :02:25. | :02:27.
She says she cradled one of the youngest victims, | :02:28. | :02:29.
15-year-old Kevin Williams, as he died. | :02:30. | :02:32.
She claims she was later brow beaten into changing her statement, | :02:33. | :02:35.
I was there that day and that child died | :02:36. | :02:40.
There's as much blame to lay at West Midlands as well South | :02:41. | :02:46.
Yorkshire, they should have behaved themselves and they should have told | :02:47. | :02:48.
In terms of the number of victims, witnesses and statements, | :02:49. | :02:52.
the Hillsborough inquiry was the biggest ever carried out | :02:53. | :02:54.
This former senior West Midlands officer | :02:55. | :02:59.
didn't serve on the inquiry, but says the team that | :03:00. | :03:01.
I would like to have seen personally more experienced operational | :03:02. | :03:06.
For all these years to pass by and certainly | :03:07. | :03:19.
suddenly be caught on and dragged over the coals, | :03:20. | :03:21.
They were interested in did I have a ticket, | :03:22. | :03:25.
did I have a drink, did I | :03:26. | :03:27.
Val Yates was a 20-year-old Liverpool fan who ended up | :03:28. | :03:30.
on the pitch that day trying to help. | :03:31. | :03:32.
She thought West Midlands officers arrived with a script already | :03:33. | :03:34.
written and said so to the IPCC, who failed to pick up | :03:35. | :03:37.
They said that I'd got no complaints against the | :03:38. | :03:45.
and that was just an absolute utter falseness. | :03:46. | :03:49.
I never said it, I've got absolute criticism of them, they had | :03:50. | :03:58.
an agenda, tried to confiscate this, wanted to blame drunken | :03:59. | :04:01.
The Crown Prosecution services has files on eight police officers - | :04:02. | :04:08.
Decisions on whether to charge them are due later this year. | :04:09. | :04:14.
are to help account, but I'm not | :04:15. | :04:16.
You can hope that those responsible for this | :04:17. | :04:17.
are to help account, but I'm not | :04:18. | :04:19.
sure if I've got faith that it will actually happen. | :04:20. | :04:24.
The truth is pretty much now writ large. | :04:25. | :04:25.
What's left to do then in this investigation? | :04:26. | :04:46.
You've heard they've already sent files to the CPS - | :04:47. | :04:51.
and this follows work focused on what they call the 'controlling | :04:52. | :04:53.
minds' of the alleged cover-up, those taking key decisions. | :04:54. | :04:55.
But inquiries continue into 170 allegations of misconduct - | :04:56. | :04:58.
that's to say misbehaviour by officers rather | :04:59. | :05:01.
If those officers were still serving, those allegations might | :05:02. | :05:06.
The reality is few if any are still employed by | :05:07. | :05:10.
South Yorkshire or West Midlands - so that process may not | :05:11. | :05:13.
satisfy all the families and survivors who've complained. | :05:14. | :05:18.
West Midlands Police says it's co-operated fully | :05:19. | :05:20.
with investigations and its thoughts are with the family | :05:21. | :05:26.
Hundreds of people gathered in Wolverhampton this afternoon | :05:27. | :05:36.
to pay their last respects to Baroness Rachael Heyhoe Flint, | :05:37. | :05:39.
St Peter's church in the city centre was packed with leading figures | :05:40. | :05:44.
from the world of football, cricket and television. | :05:45. | :05:46.
Best known as the former England Women's Cricket Captain, who | :05:47. | :05:55.
worked tirelessly for charity, she was also a passionate | :05:56. | :05:57.
lifelong supporter of Wolverhampton Wanderers. | :05:58. | :05:58.
She wanted her funeral to be like Sir Jack Potter but not as grand. No | :05:59. | :06:39.
one else can ever fill this gap. Inside St Peter's, every seat was | :06:40. | :06:42.
taken, by family and friends from her sporting passions, cricket and | :06:43. | :06:48.
football, from her political career as Baroness Taiwan Micah at the | :06:49. | :06:51.
House of Lords and from her outstanding charity work. I work for | :06:52. | :07:00.
charity was absolutely outstanding. She was best known around the world | :07:01. | :07:05.
as captain of the England cricket team and the first woman ever to | :07:06. | :07:08.
become a member of the MCC at Lord's. I hope that it will make the | :07:09. | :07:14.
MCC realise that there are thousands and thousands of women who take | :07:15. | :07:19.
cricket very seriously. But her heart was always in Wolverhampton, | :07:20. | :07:22.
educated at the girls high school and fiercely proud to be a vice | :07:23. | :07:24.
president of Wolverhampton Wanderers. Rachel was also a good | :07:25. | :07:29.
friend of Graham Taylor, and how ironic that this should both passed | :07:30. | :07:33.
away within a week of each other. He would have appreciated her | :07:34. | :07:37.
mischievous sense of humour. Her father Sir Jack had a close | :07:38. | :07:52.
place in ritual's heart. So close, I think they were the greatest | :07:53. | :07:56.
friends. If you asked dad now, he would say truly that ritual was his | :07:57. | :08:03.
best friend. Small in stature, but always fighting for things she | :08:04. | :08:08.
believed in, it is also what she has achieved. As a Wolverhampton girls | :08:09. | :08:11.
yourself you will know more than most what she meant to the city. Oh | :08:12. | :08:17.
gosh! She was a trailblazer, a pioneer and someone who said, you | :08:18. | :08:21.
know, fight for what you believe in and make sure you get what you want | :08:22. | :08:24.
in this life and he certainly did that. It was Rachel was like dying | :08:25. | :08:28.
wish that her funeral should be uplifting and inspirational. And | :08:29. | :08:31.
everyone here at Saint Peter's here today would agree that the service | :08:32. | :08:35.
like her life was a great success. And you can share your own thoughts | :08:36. | :08:44.
and memories of Rachael Heyhoe Flint own thoughts and memories | :08:45. | :08:50.
of Rachael Heyhoe Flint over A 70-year-old paedophile who taught | :08:51. | :08:52.
in schools in Worcestershire has been given 13 life sentences | :08:53. | :08:56.
for a catalogue of abuse on children Retired English teacher Mark Frost, | :08:57. | :08:59.
formerly known as Andrew Tracey, admitted abusing nine children | :09:00. | :09:05.
in Thailand between 2009 and 2012. He also pleaded guilty to sexually | :09:06. | :09:08.
assaulting two former pupils Investigators have confirmed that | :09:09. | :09:10.
a fire at a plastics recycling firm in Stoke on Trent | :09:11. | :09:22.
was started deliberately. More than 50 firefighters | :09:23. | :09:25.
were sent to Hanbury Plastics Smoke from the blaze | :09:26. | :09:27.
could be seen for miles. It later emerged that the plant | :09:28. | :09:32.
didn't have a permit and was operating illegally | :09:33. | :09:35.
after the Enviroment Agency Crimestoppers has offered | :09:36. | :09:37.
a reward of up to ?5,000 for information about the attempted | :09:38. | :09:45.
murder of a man on 30-year-old Jason Webb | :09:46. | :09:48.
was repeatedly kicked in the head and left for dead in the Kings Heath | :09:49. | :09:52.
area of Birmingham. It has to be up there among | :09:53. | :09:55.
the worst newlywed nightmares. Thieves ransacked the home | :09:56. | :10:02.
of Amy Blount's wedding photographer Tonight, the heartbroken bride has | :10:03. | :10:07.
appealed to the burglars to return the stolen memory cards and computer | :10:08. | :10:14.
equipment which contained her My wedding day was great, | :10:15. | :10:16.
it was everything that I wanted it to be and we had all of our friends | :10:17. | :10:26.
and family there and the weather was dry and sunny and yeah, | :10:27. | :10:30.
it was just a really lovely day. Amy Blount got married | :10:31. | :10:33.
just three weeks ago, but apart from her dress and cards | :10:34. | :10:36.
at home in shard end in Birmingham, now has very little to remind | :10:37. | :10:39.
her of her special day. Then this is us cutting... | :10:40. | :10:44.
Cutting your cake? There are just a few snaps taken | :10:45. | :10:46.
by friends of Amy marrying Chris in Lickey Hill near Birmingham | :10:47. | :10:56.
because last week the photographer's When he came home their house | :10:57. | :10:59.
had been broken into and all of their things had been stolen, | :11:00. | :11:07.
so the cameras, their computer, all their hard drives, | :11:08. | :11:09.
things are, they'd all gone. He'd e-mailed this picture over | :11:10. | :11:15.
before the break in. Initially I was very shocked | :11:16. | :11:20.
and then I just spent quite I was very devastated because for me | :11:21. | :11:27.
the photos were more than just a picture to look at, | :11:28. | :11:32.
they represented the whole day and everything and it was like hard | :11:33. | :11:38.
evidence of my friends and family West Midlands Police | :11:39. | :11:44.
are appealing for information following the burglary | :11:45. | :11:49.
at the photographer's house in Somerset Road | :11:50. | :11:51.
in Walsall last Thursday. And they're combing through CCTV | :11:52. | :11:54.
from the area for clues. If anyone knew of anything, | :11:55. | :11:59.
you know, or happens to have the memory card or the hard | :12:00. | :12:05.
drive or anything with the photos on it then | :12:06. | :12:08.
if they could return that, It's stood tall and proud, | :12:09. | :12:12.
surrounded by green fields Berkswell Windmill is considered | :12:13. | :12:24.
to be one of the most important historic monuments | :12:25. | :12:28.
in the Solihull area. So residents say they're horrified | :12:29. | :12:31.
by plans to build up They insist there are plenty | :12:32. | :12:33.
of alternative brownfield sites nearby which are far more | :12:34. | :12:39.
suitable for development. Our reporter Bob Hockenhull | :12:40. | :12:40.
is at the windmill now. A slice of rural history that these | :12:41. | :12:44.
villagers want to protect. They say proposals for | :12:45. | :12:47.
a large housing estate opposite Berkswell Windmill | :12:48. | :12:49.
are totally inappropriate. and it should stay in | :12:50. | :12:50.
the middle of fields. We know we need the housing but | :12:51. | :13:00.
it's got to be in the right place. Green field sites are | :13:01. | :13:03.
not the right place. It's recently been restored | :13:04. | :13:06.
at a cost of ?200,000 Jeanette says building on green belt | :13:07. | :13:13.
land next to the windmill You know, there is national guidance | :13:14. | :13:17.
in place from government, central government, that says we must not | :13:18. | :13:23.
built around an historical monument. There is also a public footpath | :13:24. | :13:28.
opposite, so currently the public can have 24/7 access to countryside | :13:29. | :13:33.
as well as having a wonderful view That won't happen if 200 flats | :13:34. | :13:36.
and houses are built there. A little further away | :13:37. | :13:41.
from the windmill, The latest proposals | :13:42. | :13:44.
to extend development are in the Solihull | :13:45. | :13:48.
Draft Local Plan. The council says residents have | :13:49. | :13:51.
until February 17th to comment. The windmill's neighbour, | :13:52. | :13:55.
whose land could be built on, believes the proposed | :13:56. | :14:00.
housing is justified. My daughter's 24 and she can't get | :14:01. | :14:02.
on the property ladder and none of her friends can, | :14:03. | :14:06.
none of the kids can get on the property ladder and these | :14:07. | :14:08.
would be 50% affordable homes which will give children | :14:09. | :14:11.
a chance to get on that property Solihull Council is assuring | :14:12. | :14:16.
residents their concerns The Friends of the windmill argue | :14:17. | :14:19.
there is plenty of land to build This is another part | :14:20. | :14:25.
of Balsall common. It's a Brownfield site | :14:26. | :14:30.
and many residents say it's a far more suitable area | :14:31. | :14:33.
for the development of housing. And with the Government | :14:34. | :14:37.
planning to build a quarter of a million homes per year, | :14:38. | :14:40.
this is the kind of controversy set to befall communities up | :14:41. | :14:44.
and down the country. Well, Bob is at the windmill now. | :14:45. | :14:56.
Bob, battle lines have been drawn. How long do we have before a | :14:57. | :15:01.
decision is made? Welcome Solihull council hasn't put a timescale on | :15:02. | :15:06.
this, yet, Nick. This is a draft local plan so it hasn't been | :15:07. | :15:11.
approved, and has to go before a government planning Inspectorate | :15:12. | :15:14.
before it can be passed. Residents say it is not just the landscape | :15:15. | :15:17.
around the windmill that they are concerned about but they say that | :15:18. | :15:21.
the village was an infrastructure just can't cope with more houses | :15:22. | :15:25.
already the schools are full and they said that the doctor's surgery | :15:26. | :15:28.
also struggles as well. Best when Bell has overlooked the village for | :15:29. | :15:35.
two centuries now and this has certainly been a contentious chapter | :15:36. | :15:39.
in its history but the residents are so determined that they say they are | :15:40. | :15:42.
determined to take their fights to the High Court if that proves to be | :15:43. | :15:45.
necessary. Bob, thank you. Thanks for joining us | :15:46. | :15:48.
on Midlands Today, this is our top story tonight: Survivors | :15:49. | :15:50.
of the Hillsborough disaster are calling for West Midlands Police | :15:51. | :15:53.
to face charges over how the investigation | :15:54. | :15:55.
into what wrong was handled. It's certainly felt a lot | :15:56. | :15:59.
colder today, hasn't it? Shefali's here later | :16:00. | :16:01.
with the forecast. Also in tonight's programme Changing | :16:02. | :16:02.
the face of Coventry: the council insist a new 300 million pound | :16:03. | :16:05.
development WILL go ahead. And enthusiasts from across | :16:06. | :16:07.
the world pull together to honour the memory of one of the greatest | :16:08. | :16:10.
names in motorbike The UK Independence Party have | :16:11. | :16:12.
formally launched their campaign for Midlands "Metro Mayor", | :16:13. | :16:16.
even though they've strongly opposed Their candidate, Pete Durnell, | :16:17. | :16:18.
is promising to invest in new technologies | :16:19. | :16:23.
and to refurbish empty homes. He's been talking to our political | :16:24. | :16:25.
editor, Patrick Burns. First they campaigned, | :16:26. | :16:30.
successfully, to get in to the European Parliament, | :16:31. | :16:32.
in order to get out of it. Now they're campaigning again for | :16:33. | :16:36.
a role they strongly disapprove of. They say regional devolution means | :16:37. | :16:41.
devolving power away from the people The Metro Mayor is happening | :16:42. | :16:43.
and what I'm saying is actually lets get in there and make | :16:44. | :16:49.
sure the combined authority worked as efficiently as possibly can, | :16:50. | :16:52.
and ultimately a Ukip mayor will keep tight control on it | :16:53. | :16:55.
and will actually make sure that it works as | :16:56. | :17:00.
the most efficient He's not the first candidate | :17:01. | :17:02.
to single out the M6 Toll road He wants to get more lorries to use | :17:03. | :17:06.
it, instead of the main M6. I'd like to try and do that | :17:07. | :17:10.
with some subsidies because currently at ?11 per HGV, it's not | :17:11. | :17:14.
economic to get on there, so let's try and make it | :17:15. | :17:17.
economic for them to get And he's joined calls for the mayor | :17:18. | :17:20.
to be paid around ?30,000 a year: that's over ?100,000 | :17:21. | :17:25.
less than the new mayor Why is ours worth so | :17:26. | :17:28.
much less than theirs? I don't think it's an issue | :17:29. | :17:32.
of what it's worth, I'm saying that from my point of view I think | :17:33. | :17:35.
that it should be all about passion and commitment | :17:36. | :17:38.
and wanting to help and drive your region forward not about the amount | :17:39. | :17:41.
of money that you can get. It's a party political | :17:42. | :17:44.
contest, of course. But the nature of the job makes this | :17:45. | :17:45.
much more about the personalities Pete Durnell is one of five | :17:46. | :17:48.
candidates so far declared for this first Midlands Metro mayoral | :17:49. | :17:56.
election on May fourth. You'll find more | :17:57. | :17:59.
about them on my blog. The eventual winner will head | :18:00. | :18:01.
the new combined authority covering the conurbation from Wolverhampton | :18:02. | :18:05.
through Birmingham to Coventry. Patrick Burns, BBC Midlands Today, | :18:06. | :18:07.
Sutton Coldfield. We'll be celebrating | :18:08. | :18:17.
with Coventry City fans in a moment after they got to Wembley last | :18:18. | :18:19.
night, but first their local council's insisting | :18:20. | :18:23.
a new ?300 million development The authority recently gave | :18:24. | :18:25.
the green light to the scheme known It comes at a time when a boom | :18:26. | :18:29.
in property development It's brutalist and, for many, ugly, | :18:30. | :18:33.
but Coventry Point is one of numerous concrete buildings set | :18:34. | :18:40.
to be demolished as part of a ?300 million City Centre | :18:41. | :18:42.
South redevelopment. Previous schemes like the ambitious | :18:43. | :18:47.
Jerde project failed but this time What is different here is, | :18:48. | :18:50.
the money is in place, ?200 million from the private sector | :18:51. | :18:55.
for the developer, who has done We've got ?100 million | :18:56. | :18:58.
from the combined authority. The permission is in place. | :18:59. | :19:04.
Now we want to see it happen. Coventry is already | :19:05. | :19:07.
seeing a building boom. This former Royal Mail sorting | :19:08. | :19:10.
office site will soon be The first time I came | :19:11. | :19:13.
here, the sorting office We acquired it from the Royal Mail | :19:14. | :19:18.
when they vacated it. It was a derelict site | :19:19. | :19:23.
and it is great to be investing in the site and bringing it | :19:24. | :19:27.
back to life. And there are plenty | :19:28. | :19:31.
of cranes on the skyline, with numerous similar | :19:32. | :19:33.
projects under way. This is a sign of regeneration | :19:34. | :19:35.
gathering momentum. These are the former offices | :19:36. | :19:38.
of the local newspaper, the Coventry Evening Telegraph, | :19:39. | :19:41.
which were vacated The building is going to be | :19:42. | :19:43.
converted into a boutique hotel, This used to be | :19:44. | :19:49.
the newsroom, I think. There's photographers, | :19:50. | :19:53.
sub editors... It's the brainchild of Coventry | :19:54. | :19:54.
developer Ian Harribin. You can imagine some life coming | :19:55. | :19:57.
back in this big room yet again when somebody has their wedding | :19:58. | :20:00.
here, for example. Further down in the building, | :20:01. | :20:02.
we're looking at using some of the former large print room | :20:03. | :20:05.
spaces for maybe a couple of arthouse cinema screens so, | :20:06. | :20:07.
you know, making the building work Coventry has been known | :20:08. | :20:10.
as the Phoenix City after it rose It seems another | :20:11. | :20:19.
resurrection is under way. So the city itself seems | :20:20. | :20:32.
to be going places, Well, Coventry City | :20:33. | :20:34.
have reached Wembley Last night they beat | :20:35. | :20:37.
Wycombe Wanderers 2-1 to reach It's a rare bright spot for fans | :20:38. | :20:42.
who've seen the club slip And it'll make a fitting 30th | :20:43. | :20:46.
anniversary to the club's FA They've seen quite a few pitch | :20:47. | :20:50.
invasions But instead | :20:51. | :20:58.
of a protest Coventry were at Wembley, | :20:59. | :21:01.
and the fans and the players Beforehand the biggest home | :21:02. | :21:07.
crowd of the season had Just over 11,500 hoped | :21:08. | :21:14.
they could forget their troubles and and reach | :21:15. | :21:25.
the final of the Checkatrade Trophy. Without a league win since November | :21:26. | :21:27.
1st Coventry's players needed a special performance even to beat | :21:28. | :21:33.
League Two Wycombe. They took a 2-nil half-time | :21:34. | :21:35.
lead against Wycombe. First, Stuart Beavon's deflected | :21:36. | :21:40.
effort put them in front. And then a superb second | :21:41. | :21:48.
really lifted expectations. George Thomas giving Kyel Reid's | :21:49. | :21:50.
fine cross the finish it deserved. Wycombe's Adebayo Akinfenwa pulled | :21:51. | :21:52.
a goal back on 55 minutes There were six minutes | :21:53. | :21:59.
of injury time to endure for manager Russell Slade | :22:00. | :22:07.
and the Sky Blues fans. But Coventry survived and will head | :22:08. | :22:09.
to Wembley at the end of April. Coventry City are still a club | :22:10. | :22:14.
with many problems. All the more reason then | :22:15. | :22:17.
to savour this success. Motorbike enthusiasts from | :22:18. | :22:26.
the Midlands and across the world have come together to make sure | :22:27. | :22:29.
the grave of James Lansdown Norton, who founded the famous motorcycle | :22:30. | :22:33.
company, They discovered the grave | :22:34. | :22:34.
in a run-down state in a cemetery in south | :22:35. | :22:40.
Birmingham and they've managed to track down Norton's | :22:41. | :22:42.
descendants to get permission for the restoration. | :22:43. | :22:44.
Peter Plisner reports. Difficult corners, hairpin bends and | :22:45. | :22:51.
a seven mile car climb. the year that Norton Motor cycles | :22:52. | :22:54.
won two historic victories. helping to turn Birmingham based | :22:55. | :23:01.
Norton into iconic brand. And I thought that's a job that | :23:02. | :23:10.
suits make riding bikes all day. enthusiasts like Barry Owen | :23:11. | :23:14.
still treasure their Nortons - as I found out when | :23:15. | :23:18.
I went to his shed. I was road testing the north | :23:19. | :23:26.
commando -- Norton Commander in the late cities that got me hooked on | :23:27. | :23:30.
Northern's top left engineering for many years but it was always in your | :23:31. | :23:32.
blood, like malaria. James Lansdowne Norton - | :23:33. | :23:33.
the founder of the company. He set up Norton originally to make | :23:34. | :23:39.
bicycle parts but in 1902 Some of them are on display | :23:40. | :23:41.
in the National Motorcycle Museum. Absolute towering industry figure. | :23:42. | :23:54.
One of the most people -- important people I suppose in the British | :23:55. | :23:56.
motorcycle industry certainly in the early days. This is the place where | :23:57. | :24:07.
these bikes were first built. Sadly the factory is long gone, but the | :24:08. | :24:11.
legacy of Norton continues. The latest Norton bikes | :24:12. | :24:12.
are still made in the Midlands But enthusiests haven't been | :24:13. | :24:14.
so impressed at the state of the Norton founder's grave - | :24:15. | :24:18.
which Barry took me to in a cemenrty It does need a bit of TLC, there's | :24:19. | :24:21.
no doubt about that. Now Barry's leading a campaign | :24:22. | :24:28.
to have the memorial restored - and he even tracked one | :24:29. | :24:31.
of Norton's grand-daughters. When we spoke about doing the | :24:32. | :24:38.
growing up she said I would talk to the surviving family and we will get | :24:39. | :24:42.
it done and yeah, we are going ahead with it. But what would Norton | :24:43. | :24:50.
himself make about the fast? I have a feeling he would be chuffed about | :24:51. | :24:51.
it will So to the weather after a decidedly | :24:52. | :24:55.
cooler day across the region. Leeds yesterday we had clout to | :24:56. | :25:07.
start off with men and beautiful sunshine to look forward to but | :25:08. | :25:10.
unfortunately the cloud is sticking and lingering through the day. We | :25:11. | :25:16.
had mist and fog as well that was stubborn to lift about this is how | :25:17. | :25:19.
it goes for the next few days, the theme I'm afraid. We have a pretty | :25:20. | :25:25.
light easterly winds, easterly winds drawing in colder air but because | :25:26. | :25:27.
they are like there is nothing to churn up the cloud and break it up, | :25:28. | :25:32.
I'm afraid. Of course that will also holds temperatures down and you will | :25:33. | :25:34.
notice that the easterly wind will also draw in a few wintry showers | :25:35. | :25:38.
along the spine of the country, some of those they just cross into the | :25:39. | :25:45.
Midlands as well. But for tonight, we've got showers about the region | :25:46. | :25:49.
but they are mainly of rain, just a flicker of snow here and there | :25:50. | :25:53.
because the air is not cold enough, yet, but will become colder later on | :25:54. | :25:56.
tonight. Lots of clout but where we get some breaks we see temperatures | :25:57. | :26:00.
nearing freezing, and in the rural spot that value may be -1 or minus | :26:01. | :26:07.
two Celsius. Widespread frost on the cards, best and fog in the morning | :26:08. | :26:13.
tomorrow as well, but they gradually clears but in some spots lingering | :26:14. | :26:16.
because temperatures struggled to get much above two Celsius tomorrow. | :26:17. | :26:21.
That is because of all of the cloud sitting right across us. As we can | :26:22. | :26:26.
see the winds are light to moderate, from the easterly director on and | :26:27. | :26:29.
because they are moderate that may add a bit of a wind chill as well. | :26:30. | :26:33.
They bitterly cold day tomorrow, feeling raw, and feeling raw into | :26:34. | :26:38.
tomorrow night as well. That cloud persists again and where it breaks | :26:39. | :26:41.
in the western half of the region, always getting the best of any | :26:42. | :26:44.
brightness that is on offer, we will see the temperatures again -- once | :26:45. | :26:51.
again falling into the negative. Frosty on Friday, but Friday itself | :26:52. | :26:56.
will be a cloudy day, again, Friday night into Saturday, some frost on | :26:57. | :26:58.
the cars buzz temperatures during the day not really very much | :26:59. | :27:01.
different during the night. I'll be back at 10.30 | :27:02. | :27:08.
with your late update. We are going to leave you with some | :27:09. | :27:21.
images from the funeral of somebody who I was proud to call a friend. | :27:22. | :27:23.
The much loved Rachael Heyhoe Flint. when farmers leave | :27:24. | :28:14.
