The headlines tonight: for news where you are. | :00:00. | :00:00.
900 pupils told to stay away from school after a group | :00:00. | :00:08.
of travellers take over their car park. | :00:09. | :00:12.
The children that come into the school have a right to be | :00:13. | :00:15.
educated and to be able to get into the school | :00:16. | :00:17.
Some of the senior pupils were able to go in, | :00:18. | :00:21.
It's called sugaring: how older men help young students pay their debts | :00:22. | :00:26.
When I don't see him, I get ?500 per month. | :00:27. | :00:33.
But when I do see him, I know, guaranteed, I will get ?1000 | :00:34. | :00:36.
A spectacularly good day's work, as a Chinese vase valued | :00:37. | :00:42.
Aiming high: after passing forty points, Albion | :00:43. | :00:48.
set their sights on their best ever Premier League finish. | :00:49. | :00:53.
And vibrant colours most likely replaced by monochrome black | :00:54. | :00:56.
Grey clouds and a covering of snow, just before | :00:57. | :01:01.
Around 900 pupils at a school in Birmingham were told to stay | :01:02. | :01:20.
at home this morning after travellers pitched up | :01:21. | :01:24.
Around 20 caravans drove onto Shenley Academy in Weoley Castle | :01:25. | :01:29.
On Saturday, they were given a 24 hour eviction notice, | :01:30. | :01:35.
It meant a large part of the school had to close today. | :01:36. | :01:41.
Those pupils that did go in for lessons were given a police | :01:42. | :01:44.
This was the view at Shenley Academy this morning on what should have | :01:45. | :01:59.
been the first day back after half-time. At 7:30am, police and | :02:00. | :02:03.
council bailiffs moved into a Viktor the travellers. By the morning they | :02:04. | :02:08.
were on the move but it came too late to prevent the destruction. | :02:09. | :02:13.
Much to the dismay of staff and parents. We were hopeful after the | :02:14. | :02:17.
eviction notice that they would be gone 24 hours later. The reality is | :02:18. | :02:21.
that hasn't been the case. So 800 children have not been able to | :02:22. | :02:27.
attend school today. No reason to take over school. People have to go | :02:28. | :02:32.
to work. There is no way kids will be up to get education with this on | :02:33. | :02:38.
the field. With more than 20 families on the site, including | :02:39. | :02:41.
large numbers of children, clearing took some time. There was also | :02:42. | :02:45.
frustration among travellers who blame the council for a lack of | :02:46. | :02:53.
legal sites. It's your fault. We're not getting any stay anywhere. We | :02:54. | :02:56.
asked the council to provide us with the car park for a few weeks. It's | :02:57. | :03:01.
not fair on the children either. Not being able to stay based on a school | :03:02. | :03:05.
because we'd have to keep moving from country to country. In fact, | :03:06. | :03:08.
Birmingham City Council operates just once legal site in the north of | :03:09. | :03:16.
the city. It is not open to families. Two new sites are open to | :03:17. | :03:22.
discussion. Something that the West Midlands Police and Crime | :03:23. | :03:26.
Commissioner says should be a matter of urgency. We need sites for them | :03:27. | :03:31.
to go. The local authorities have got to find a common solution to | :03:32. | :03:34.
this, working together and not shunting the problem from one place | :03:35. | :03:43.
to another. When we arrived this morning, this was full of caravans | :03:44. | :03:46.
and vehicle. They have gone and the clear up is going on behind me. But | :03:47. | :03:50.
the travellers left something behind them, a gun pony. If they don't come | :03:51. | :03:57.
back and collect the school will call the RSPCA -- a young pony. | :03:58. | :04:05.
Local people told me they were evicted in this spot two weeks ago. | :04:06. | :04:10.
This is a spot that is mobile but not going away. | :04:11. | :04:17.
With me now is the West Midlands Police and Crime | :04:18. | :04:19.
They did move on fairly quickly so that must be a relief to you because | :04:20. | :04:30.
you said there is not enough sites? It is truly disgraceful that those | :04:31. | :04:33.
travellers can take over a school site like that and stop children's | :04:34. | :04:38.
education, the inconvenience to dead parents and the cost. What we need | :04:39. | :04:43.
are enough sites across the West Midlands and particularly in | :04:44. | :04:46.
Birmingham, where the police can direct people to go if they start | :04:47. | :04:53.
going onto sites. Like Shenley Academy. Has anything come out of | :04:54. | :04:59.
this? Just a fortnight ago I had a summit. Two things came out of that. | :05:00. | :05:05.
Firstly, all local authorities, possibly through a combined | :05:06. | :05:07.
authority, to look how to join together and stop Timea stopped | :05:08. | :05:11.
shunting the problem from one place to another. They maybe move on | :05:12. | :05:20.
Walsall all Coventry. Finding sites is easier said than done. People | :05:21. | :05:25.
don't want the sites. But the is enormous. People are paying the | :05:26. | :05:32.
costs out of taxpayers' money. We need to move people on. We need the | :05:33. | :05:38.
proper sites and look if any change in the law need to take place to | :05:39. | :05:42.
give the police more power. How would you be sure people, that | :05:43. | :05:50.
travellers could be in a field near them tomorrow? The police always | :05:51. | :05:54.
take action. The police will always step in in legal action. But this is | :05:55. | :05:58.
a matter for councils to deal with. It is not a police matter in that | :05:59. | :06:02.
sense. The police will deal any breach of the law. What is that? If | :06:03. | :06:09.
they damage property or get rowdy. Somewhere on Saturday night some | :06:10. | :06:12.
were arrested for offences on the street. Police will deal with that | :06:13. | :06:17.
but the real long term issue lies with the local council. I would say | :06:18. | :06:22.
to local people, get onto your local councils and say, just what are you | :06:23. | :06:26.
doing about this issue? Are you providing the proper sites and the | :06:27. | :06:31.
alternative places, proper hygiene, proper waste disposal and also where | :06:32. | :06:35.
you can pay rent to use the site? It's so it's not a loss to the | :06:36. | :06:37.
taxpayer. Thanks for joining us. A BBC investigation has found | :06:38. | :06:39.
an increasing number of students in Gloucestershire are turning | :06:40. | :06:41.
to sex work to pay their debts. "Sugaring" is an American phenomenon | :06:42. | :06:44.
where young women find older men online who'll fund their education | :06:45. | :06:47.
in return for sexual It's a world where the women | :06:48. | :06:51.
are called sugar babies, Look online and you will find dozens | :06:52. | :07:02.
of students posting adverts It is like online dating, | :07:03. | :07:07.
but with one big difference: the man Coco has been doing | :07:08. | :07:12.
this for two years. She lives in a bedsit | :07:13. | :07:17.
in Gloucester and dropped out of her college course last year | :07:18. | :07:20.
because she couldn't Is there an expectation that | :07:21. | :07:22.
you will have sex at some point I mean, it's just, for me, it's just | :07:23. | :07:27.
like a normal relationship. Coco is one of a growing | :07:28. | :07:35.
number of young people who are funding their education | :07:36. | :07:39.
in this way. When I don't see him, | :07:40. | :07:41.
I get ?500 per month. But when I do see him, I know, | :07:42. | :07:44.
guaranteed, I will get ?1000 A recent study by Swansea University | :07:45. | :07:47.
found that 4.8% of UK students So who would pay someone for a sugar | :07:48. | :07:55.
relationship, and why? I have spent months trawling | :07:56. | :08:03.
the internet, contacting dozens of men who advertise themselves | :08:04. | :08:07.
online as sugar daddies. Finally, one of them has agreed | :08:08. | :08:10.
to meet me, on the condition This is Darren, that | :08:11. | :08:13.
is not his real name. Something along the lines of, | :08:14. | :08:18.
40-something businessmen with his own hair and teeth | :08:19. | :08:30.
would like to meet female for sugar If there was money being exchanged, | :08:31. | :08:33.
and sex, did you see it Because is that not, | :08:34. | :08:40.
in a sense, exploiting women I wouldn't actually | :08:41. | :08:50.
know where else to go. For the students, there is no | :08:51. | :08:58.
anticipated sexual relationship. Ron Roberts is a psychologist who is | :08:59. | :09:01.
concerned about the impact of this. As debt has mushroomed, | :09:02. | :09:06.
so has the proportion of people who can now openly admit to working | :09:07. | :09:08.
in the sex industry. What's the response been | :09:09. | :09:11.
from the universities? I wouldn't even has go as far to say | :09:12. | :09:16.
they have ignored it, Take no notice of it, | :09:17. | :09:19.
deny there was a problem. With the average student debt | :09:20. | :09:23.
now running at ?44,000, it is easy to see why some turn | :09:24. | :09:26.
to sugar dating as An elderly man has become another | :09:27. | :09:29.
victim to die as a result of Storm Doris after the car | :09:30. | :09:38.
he was travelling in was crushed High winds brought the tree down | :09:39. | :09:41.
on the car on the A49 near Church Stretton | :09:42. | :09:47.
on Thursday morning. The man, who was in his 80s, | :09:48. | :09:49.
was taken to North Staffordshire A High Court injunction order's been | :09:50. | :09:52.
served on two operatives of an unlawful waste site | :09:53. | :09:59.
near Rugeley preventing them from importing | :10:00. | :10:01.
or processing materials there. The order relates to Denis Ward | :10:02. | :10:05.
and Steven Reeves-Morgan who had been bringing waste | :10:06. | :10:08.
onto Oak Tree Farm at Slitting Mill. Some of the material has | :10:09. | :10:11.
been burning on the site Chicken farmers in Shropshire say | :10:12. | :10:14.
they're unhappy with new rules to tackle bird flu because they vary | :10:15. | :10:20.
between England and Wales. Farmers on the English side | :10:21. | :10:24.
of the River Severn say they have to keep their birds locked up,thus | :10:25. | :10:29.
losing their free range status. No such restrictions apply just | :10:30. | :10:32.
across the ater in Wales. Our Rural Affairs Correspondent | :10:33. | :10:37.
David Gregory Kumar has This week, strict new rules | :10:38. | :10:39.
to deal with the bird flu But this Shropshire chicken farmer | :10:40. | :10:45.
has spotted something strange about the government's new "high | :10:46. | :10:50.
risk areas" designed So what did you think | :10:51. | :10:52.
when you saw the map? There was the high risk area, | :10:53. | :10:57.
outlined there, there was a huge And Melverly in Shropshire | :10:58. | :11:03.
is at the heart of the problem. So the high risk areas are based | :11:04. | :11:07.
around a bit of water where migratory waterfowl might come | :11:08. | :11:11.
in and bring in disease with them. And here is one near Telford, | :11:12. | :11:15.
and as you can see, But look at this one that is not | :11:16. | :11:17.
far from Shrewsbury, As you can see, there is an enormous | :11:18. | :11:22.
chunk that has been taken out of it. The end result is that in this high | :11:23. | :11:26.
risk area, chickens, turkeys and geese must stay locked | :11:27. | :11:31.
up on the English side of the river, The thing is that this | :11:32. | :11:34.
is England and this is where you have the enhanced extra | :11:35. | :11:43.
bio-security measure and the birds all covered, | :11:44. | :11:45.
where was just up the river there is Wales, where they can | :11:46. | :11:48.
free-range their birds. This is why we have the high risk | :11:49. | :11:55.
area here, because of this river. This very nasty form of bird flu | :11:56. | :12:00.
poses no risk to humans, but it can kill 80% of a flock | :12:01. | :12:03.
of farm birds in a matter of days. The man in charge in England | :12:04. | :12:07.
insists the two different I can't speak for Wales, | :12:08. | :12:09.
Wales have made it very clear to their farmers that they need | :12:10. | :12:15.
to consider very carefully their risks and take whatever | :12:16. | :12:18.
action is appropriate. And that includes housing | :12:19. | :12:21.
if they are at high-risk. But this difference could cost | :12:22. | :12:23.
English farmers money. Those who have to keep their birds | :12:24. | :12:29.
inside like this will lose There are no such problems for Welsh | :12:30. | :12:32.
farmers just over the border. What would you say to somebody | :12:33. | :12:41.
who has got birds on this side of the river compared to somebody | :12:42. | :12:44.
who's got them over there? I'd be inclined to move my birds | :12:45. | :12:47.
on to that side of the river, collect my eggs over there then | :12:48. | :12:50.
bring them over here and sell them It's the same situation | :12:51. | :12:53.
all along the boarder Very different rules | :12:54. | :12:57.
to tackle the same disease. And you can read much more | :12:58. | :13:01.
about this on David's blog Bidders at an auction house | :13:02. | :13:03.
in Birmingham were left stunned today when a Chinese vase, | :13:04. | :13:17.
valued at ?1,200, sold for...wait Valuers and the seller had believed | :13:18. | :13:20.
it was a twentieth century copy of a style of vase dating back | :13:21. | :13:27.
to the 1500s. But several antique hunters realised | :13:28. | :13:30.
it was the genuine article. At the start of today this Chinese | :13:31. | :13:33.
vase was thought to be worth But in an auction house sale | :13:34. | :13:39.
in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter lasting just four minutes, | :13:40. | :13:45.
its true worth proved to be closer to a million: | :13:46. | :13:49.
?810,000 to be precise. I have never sold anything of this | :13:50. | :14:02.
valley before. So it was a moment of excitement for all of us at the | :14:03. | :14:08.
auction house. A bid of ?810,000 then. | :14:09. | :14:10.
Stephen Whittaker was in the chair as seven bidders- | :14:11. | :14:12.
three in the auction room, three on the telephone and one | :14:13. | :14:15.
on the Internet sent the price of the vase soaring. | :14:16. | :14:17.
Fellows Auctioneers first suspected they might have undervalued | :14:18. | :14:20.
the porcelain antique when one bidder flew in from Japan. | :14:21. | :14:24.
But it was a buyer from China on the telephone who made | :14:25. | :14:28.
It proves that you can come if you've photograph something well and | :14:29. | :14:38.
describe it well, even if you don't get the date right, people will come | :14:39. | :14:43.
and find. The Internet is a great tool, it allows people to reach into | :14:44. | :14:46.
the darkest corners of the West Midlands and find what they are | :14:47. | :14:50.
looking for. So why it was the vase valued so cheaply? The head of | :14:51. | :14:56.
antiques says he took advice from two expert, including the seller | :14:57. | :15:00.
based in Germany. They were adamant it was the 20th century copy worth | :15:01. | :15:05.
just hundreds of pounds. It is one of those situations where you see | :15:06. | :15:10.
999 copies and that 1000 will be the right one. So it is a really special | :15:11. | :15:21.
day for Fellowes caught, it hasn't happened before. So after a | :15:22. | :15:24.
successful bid, this vase will make its way back to the country where it | :15:25. | :15:29.
was made. Before it makes that journey, it will be kept securely | :15:30. | :15:33.
here in Birmingham enabled. And it's not a bad day's work for the | :15:34. | :15:38.
auctioneers either. They will pick up ?100,000 in fees. Memo to self, | :15:39. | :15:44.
check the attic tomorrow urgently. Thanks for joining us | :15:45. | :15:47.
here on Midlands Today. 900 pupils were told to stay | :15:48. | :15:49.
away from school today after a group of travellers took | :15:50. | :15:58.
over their car park. Sounds as though | :15:59. | :16:00.
we're in for a cold snap, which will bemuse | :16:01. | :16:02.
my burgeoning daffodils! We catch up with the adventurer | :16:03. | :16:04.
who paddle boarded down a crocodile infested | :16:05. | :16:09.
river unscathed. Tomorrow, Birmingham City Council | :16:10. | :16:15.
will make the final decision on where the ?70 million | :16:16. | :16:18.
worth of cuts will be made in their budget for | :16:19. | :16:20.
the forthcoming financial year. which provides help for homeless | :16:21. | :16:24.
and disabled people, as well as victims | :16:25. | :16:29.
of domestic violence, Today, protestors made a last ditch | :16:30. | :16:31.
attempt to try stop the cuts. They came with blankets to make | :16:32. | :16:36.
one final, very visual, Today, when we do the flash mob, | :16:37. | :16:41.
this is a pretend exercise, but this could easily have become | :16:42. | :16:49.
the visual reality for Birmingham More and more people will end up | :16:50. | :16:52.
homeless on the streets. Today was the third protest this | :16:53. | :16:57.
year in Birmingham against millions of pounds worth of cuts to the city | :16:58. | :17:00.
council's Supporting People project, which pays charities and housing | :17:01. | :17:03.
associations to provide services for some of the city's | :17:04. | :17:07.
most vulnerable people. What we're saying is this | :17:08. | :17:11.
is really a false economy. You know, that these are not | :17:12. | :17:14.
going to be savings. These services, if they are cut, | :17:15. | :17:16.
the costs go elsewhere. That is even more expensive - | :17:17. | :17:19.
financially, socially - you know, | :17:20. | :17:21.
to individuals and communities. In a statement, Birmingham City | :17:22. | :17:24.
Council say they are proposing to halve the cuts planned | :17:25. | :17:27.
for the Supporting People budget in 2018/19, and have already | :17:28. | :17:29.
significantly reduced the cuts Whether this protest has | :17:30. | :17:33.
made any difference, we'll find out tomorrow, | :17:34. | :17:38.
when Birmingham City Council While many protestors understood | :17:39. | :17:42.
that the council has to save money, they believe they shouldn't | :17:43. | :17:48.
cut services that target | :17:49. | :17:50.
the vulnerable in the city. They've only got so much money, | :17:51. | :17:53.
cuts have to be made, and I would hate to be the person | :17:54. | :17:57.
who makes the decision about where those cuts | :17:58. | :18:00.
are going to be. I'm here because | :18:01. | :18:02.
I'm passionate about St Basil's and what they do | :18:03. | :18:07.
for every young person. Every young person that comes | :18:08. | :18:10.
into the hub isn't just a statistic, they're a person and they're | :18:11. | :18:14.
treated as an individual. Point made, protestors | :18:15. | :18:18.
can now only wait until tomorrow for a final decision | :18:19. | :18:20.
from the city council. Onto sport, and some worrying | :18:21. | :18:29.
financial results Villa made quite a loss in their | :18:30. | :18:32.
relegation season last year. Yes, they lost | :18:33. | :18:38.
?81 million last season. That's three times greater | :18:39. | :18:40.
than the season before. Of course, the club is now | :18:41. | :18:42.
in the Championship But certainly shows the big job | :18:43. | :18:44.
needed to turn the club around. Betters days for | :18:45. | :18:50.
the Baggies, though. So that should mean that | :18:51. | :18:51.
West Bromwich Albion have secured another season | :18:52. | :18:55.
in the Premier League. But can they now match | :18:56. | :18:57.
or even better their best | :18:58. | :18:58.
Premier League finish of 2013? It's been a while since Albion | :18:59. | :19:02.
were aiming so high. 1981, in fact, when they last | :19:03. | :19:08.
finished higher than eighth The team, including | :19:09. | :19:12.
the likes of Brendan Batsen, a best-ever Premier League | :19:13. | :19:16.
finish is still possible. They dealt with adversity | :19:17. | :19:26.
against Bournemouth on Saturday, falling behind to Joshua King's | :19:27. | :19:29.
fifth minute penalty. Craig Dawson's deflected | :19:30. | :19:33.
shot put them level. And, by 21 minutes, a mistake | :19:34. | :19:36.
by goalkeeper Artur Boric allowed Gareth McAuley to put in Albion | :19:37. | :19:41.
in front, and they stayed there. But Stoke City now look | :19:42. | :19:45.
locked in mid-table after losing 4-0 | :19:46. | :19:47.
at Tottenham yesterday. All four games were scored | :19:48. | :19:51.
in the first half. And the Stoke boss, Mark Hughes, | :19:52. | :19:54.
said their performance In the Championship | :19:55. | :19:56.
the fall-out from Friday night's Birmingham City hope to hear | :19:57. | :20:02.
tomorrow if their appeal against Paul Robinson's red card | :20:03. | :20:07.
against Wolves is successful. The Blues were successful | :20:08. | :20:12.
in grabbing the points. Mikael Keiftenbeld put them in front | :20:13. | :20:14.
after Carl Ikeme dropped a cross. And David Davis | :20:15. | :20:18.
doubled the advantage Nouha Dicko's second half reply | :20:19. | :20:21.
proved to be just a consolation. We'll never know what | :20:22. | :20:29.
Villa's James Chester Chester scrambled home | :20:30. | :20:30.
the only goal of the game All four of our sides | :20:31. | :20:37.
in League One lost. But Cheltenham are showing signs | :20:38. | :20:41.
of life in League Two. They won 1-0 at Leyton Orient | :20:42. | :20:45.
and back-to-back wins have lifted them six points clear | :20:46. | :20:48.
of the relegation zone. And in the last hour, we've heard | :20:49. | :20:54.
that Villa's Leondro Bacuna has been charged with violent | :20:55. | :20:57.
conduct by the Football Assocation. It follows his red card | :20:58. | :21:00.
for his confrontation with referee's assistant | :21:01. | :21:02.
Mark Russell. Onto rugby and the Midlands players | :21:03. | :21:09.
were to the fore again at Twickenham But only one of our Premiership | :21:10. | :21:12.
sides won at the weekend. They beat came from behind | :21:13. | :21:16.
to beat Gloucester 35-22. 25 points from Jimmy Gopperth | :21:17. | :21:21.
including three tries. Wasps are six points | :21:22. | :21:25.
clear at the top. But Worcester lost 24-14 | :21:26. | :21:29.
at Northampton and are only two points | :21:30. | :21:31.
above the bottom club Bristol. Very disappointing news | :21:32. | :21:37.
for speedway fans in Coventry? Yes, it looks like the Bees | :21:38. | :21:43.
have ridden their final race Last season, they finished | :21:44. | :21:46.
seventh out of eight teams But the Speedway Promoters | :21:47. | :21:51.
Association say after failing to agree a deal | :21:52. | :21:55.
with the Brandon owners. So there'll be no speedway | :21:56. | :22:00.
in Coventry for the first | :22:01. | :22:02.
time in 70 years. And finally, well done to | :22:03. | :22:04.
the Telford Tigers ice hockey team? Yes, for the second time | :22:05. | :22:09.
in three years, they've won | :22:10. | :22:11.
the English Premiership title. They clinched it with a hard-fought | :22:12. | :22:15.
victory over Bracknell. Doug Clarkson scored a hattrick | :22:16. | :22:18.
as the Tigers won 7-3. It means they've been | :22:19. | :22:25.
crowned champions with three weeks | :22:26. | :22:26.
still to go before the play-offs. Coach Tom Watson said | :22:27. | :22:28.
it was a remarkable achievement Well done to Telford Tigers. We will | :22:29. | :22:42.
resist the urge to say it is going well for the wasps but not the bees! | :22:43. | :22:44.
Thank you. Just before Christmas, | :22:45. | :22:47.
we told you about an intrepid adventurer from Gloucester | :22:48. | :22:49.
who was undertaking a challenge that certainly wasn't | :22:50. | :22:51.
for the likes of me. Kev Brady was aiming to paddle | :22:52. | :22:53.
board down the length of Sri Lanka's longest river, | :22:54. | :22:55.
all on his own, avoiding the attention | :22:56. | :22:57.
of crocodiles along the way. Well, I'm pleased to say he's done | :22:58. | :23:00.
it, but he's not finished yet. I'm picking up some | :23:01. | :23:03.
good current out here. Gloucester's Kev Brady is a man | :23:04. | :23:13.
not shy of adventure. In 2015, he swam the entire length | :23:14. | :23:15.
of the River Severn. Now he's successfully | :23:16. | :23:19.
paddleboarded down the Mahaweli | :23:20. | :23:21.
river in Sri Lanka - encountering elephants, | :23:22. | :23:23.
bears and even crocodiles. There was a crocodile | :23:24. | :23:28.
that ran down the bank, and this crocodile | :23:29. | :23:32.
was about 13 foot or so, and it just came | :23:33. | :23:34.
hurtling down the bank It looked like it was | :23:35. | :23:36.
coming straight for me. Not content with just one success, | :23:37. | :23:41.
Kev's now trying to make his way around the island, carrying | :23:42. | :23:44.
all his belongings on his board. But he's had a few | :23:45. | :23:48.
problems on the way. I remember one day | :23:49. | :23:51.
when my fin broke, and then I just kept | :23:52. | :23:54.
hitting loads of rocks. Over the course of two days, | :23:55. | :23:56.
I made it two kilometres. It was just painfully, | :23:57. | :24:01.
painfully slow. It was just like, | :24:02. | :24:03.
"When is this going to end?" Back home in Gloucester, | :24:04. | :24:06.
his mum and sister say he hasn't always | :24:07. | :24:09.
been the outgoing type. He was quite a shy and quiet kid, | :24:10. | :24:11.
he loved being at home. He would just toddle | :24:12. | :24:16.
round the garden all day with a little container, | :24:17. | :24:18.
looking for bugs and insects, Yeah, he wasn't really | :24:19. | :24:20.
adventurous or outgoing. With the monsoon season | :24:21. | :24:27.
still active, Kev says he's taking | :24:28. | :24:31.
every day as it comes. Just keep paddling the coast until | :24:32. | :24:35.
I get to the mouth of the Gin River, And we're going to head | :24:36. | :24:39.
50 or 60 K upstream, and hopefully see some more | :24:40. | :24:47.
elephants and crocodiles. Kev's out in Sri Lanka until March | :24:48. | :24:52.
before planning his next adventure. and, with the cricket season | :24:53. | :25:00.
starting six weeks on Friday, there's talk of some | :25:01. | :25:04.
wintry weather on the way. It certainly is, but we should get | :25:05. | :25:16.
things sorted by then. You never know. It has been a mixed bag today, | :25:17. | :25:20.
temperatures between four and nine Celsius today. It has been gusty as | :25:21. | :25:31.
well. You can see what we have all of this, hailstones through the | :25:32. | :25:39.
Western West Midlands. You can also see it is snowing quite heavily in | :25:40. | :25:44.
Staffordshire. We have also had sunshine and showers. Somewhere over | :25:45. | :25:49.
that rainbow, we have more showers, because it is a busy picture this | :25:50. | :25:53.
week. Low pressure dominating, frontal systems pushing in from the | :25:54. | :25:57.
Atlantic. Rain feeding up from the south by Wednesday, but it is moving | :25:58. | :26:01.
slowly, so probably moving across the region on Wednesday night, and | :26:02. | :26:05.
more rain spilling from the north-west during the course of | :26:06. | :26:08.
Thursday. The timings on these fronts are changing all the time, so | :26:09. | :26:14.
later in the week is problematic to pin that detailed down. Let's take a | :26:15. | :26:20.
closer look. This sums up what the week is like, showers and rain. Cold | :26:21. | :26:26.
at times, gusty winds from the south-west, but they will be | :26:27. | :26:33.
originating from polar regions. Wintry as well, especially over the | :26:34. | :26:36.
higher ground. For this evening, we have showers across the region. | :26:37. | :26:41.
These will continue into the first part of tonight, and you can see | :26:42. | :26:44.
from those white blobs that they would treat. They will remain as | :26:45. | :26:53.
slow as to project tumbles away. The temperatures tumble to one or 2 | :26:54. | :26:59.
degrees. Possibly below freezing in rural spots. We have a nice on | :27:00. | :27:07.
untreated services, and we will have a warning for much of the region. | :27:08. | :27:13.
Difficult driving conditions for untreated roads into the morning | :27:14. | :27:16.
tomorrow, but a dry start and sunny start with sunshine and showers late | :27:17. | :27:17.
in the day. Again, some snow. I'll be back at 10:30pm | :27:18. | :27:22.
with your late update. To be in the Lords, | :27:23. | :27:25.
you have to be punctual... literally have to slam | :27:26. | :27:57.
the door in somebody's face. What right do they have | :27:58. | :28:01.
to tell ME about my fashion sense. | :28:02. | :28:06. |
