today offered some welcome spring But there are changes ahead -

those details in the forecast later. When Emilie Larter held a five-day

old orphan in her arms, it set her on a path

:01:24.:01:28.

to becoming his mother. The 25-year-old, from

:01:29.:01:32.

Worcestershire, was volunteering for a charity in Uganda

:01:33.:01:35.

when she met the child. She became baby Adam's full time

:01:38.:01:40.

so she can adopt him. When his mother died, he and six

:01:41.:01:42.

other children were orphaned. Since then, he's been cared

for by Emilie Larter, who was working for a charity in

:02:23.:02:25.

Emilie's hoping to raise the money for the adoption online,

:02:26.:02:28.

At her family home in Leigh Sinton, near Malvern, her parents have been

:02:29.:02:35.

Once we realise that there was a bond created their we were all

emotionally involved. It came in stages but now we can get on with it

:02:57.:03:01.

and hopefully that bring him back as soon as possible.

:03:02.:03:02.

Emilie has to foster Adam before she can apply to the Ugandan courts

:03:03.:03:05.

She'll then need to get permission from the UK

I believe the support network of my family and friends is so important

by the end of this year. It's more of a problem than heroin -

that's the view of a friend of a man thought to have been killed

it a bigger problem than any other drug. It's just cheap and easy to

:04:42.:04:47.

He got hooked on black mamba in prison and was filmed as part

:04:48.:05:05.

But today he's clean and says he has been for months.

:05:06.:05:08.

His friend Paul has also managed to stop smoking spice.

:05:09.:05:14.

Although the pair are homeless and temptation is all around,

they say it's too dangerous to start again.

people might say that, but if you just remember

that the information that the officers were given,

that someone had gone into that house with more than one weapon,

it was a residential address, As people are coming out, we don't

to deal with all of that. They did their best to maximise

all of the safety of everybody that was in there and they were only

on the floor for a very short amount of time and they dealt

with it as best they could, given the situation

looking into this and joins me now. Well, the adult care system

:09:13.:09:15.

has begun to collapse As you say, 105 carers leave their

:09:16.:09:19.

jobs in the West Midlands everyday. A former carer in West Bromwich told

us she left after eight years because she was struggling

I found it very difficult to leave. The fact that, to work in that

sector, I had to do a lot of long hours and I'd need to work 60 hour

:09:58.:10:00.

because I am a very caring person. And I did and still do care

:10:01.:10:04.

about the people thatI looked after. I just hope that it does keep more

:10:05.:10:24.

carers in work, you know. We don't want to see it get any

:10:25.:10:27.

worse because people are going to go I mean, it's quite a taxing

job I should think. They go from one to the other

with always working with someone. There is anything being done to

prevent people leaving the profession?

Carers say they have adhered responsibility, people's lives in

Also, in terms of the amount they get for their

the Department of Health says the following statement. More than half

of those who quit last year left the care sector altogether.

survived the construction of both THOSE projects,

:13:40.:13:42.

but the proposals for HS2 would see major earthworks here -

:13:43.:13:44.

meaning the trees would have to go. Whitmore Wood is one of seven

:13:45.:13:51.

ancient woodlands seriously affected by the HS2 line as it tracks north

:13:52.:13:54.

from Birmingham to Crewe. Local residents are also concerned -

:13:55.:14:08.

their homes have been affected too, and many have already sold out

:14:09.:14:11.

to HS2 Ltd. Plans here include two tunnels,

:14:12.:14:13.

which both the Woodlands Trust and residents like Fred Smith say

:14:14.:14:15.

could easily be joined together We are disappointed that it wasn't

:14:16.:14:18.

included in last year's Environmental Impact

:14:19.:14:22.

Assessment report. HS2 has already changed a route

:14:23.:14:23.

in Buckinghamshire, where - as this video shows -

:14:24.:14:44.

the Chiltern tunnel has been extended to protect

:14:45.:14:47.

another ancient woodland. People in Staffordshire now want

:14:48.:14:48.

the same to happen here. A major new Birmingham

:14:49.:14:54.

music festival has been The three-day festival,

:14:55.:14:56.

called Beyond The Tracks, will take place in the city centre

:14:57.:15:06.

in September, and will feature a number of bands from Birmingham

:15:07.:15:09.

including two of the headliners. But with a number of big

:15:10.:15:11.

festivals having failed in recent years in the city,

:15:12.:15:13.

can this one really work? Ben Sidwell's at the location

:15:14.:15:16.

for the festival now. They must be pretty

:15:17.:15:18.

confident it will work, Ben? They are, and I think the location

:15:19.:15:29.

is going to play a big role in that. That is the main train line in and

:15:30.:15:35.

out of Birmingham, and if we go the other way, that is Curzon street,

:15:36.:15:40.

weather station for HS2 is going to be, and further run from that the

:15:41.:15:45.

city centre itself. But it is not just the location that has a second

:15:46.:15:50.

city feel, the line-up is made from a lot of Birmingham bans as well.

:15:51.:15:51.

Ocean Colour Scene, Editors and The Twang -

:15:52.:15:53.

just three of the Birmingham bands who'll be taking to the stage

:15:54.:15:56.

in their home city in September, at the brand-new Beyond The Tracks

:15:57.:15:59.

First time we've played outside in Birmingham, so yeah,

:16:00.:16:02.

Bill looks great, hopefully the weather's

:16:03.:16:15.

going to be brilliant, September time, and we look forward

:16:16.:16:17.

But can a major music festival be a success in this city?

:16:18.:16:21.

Birmingham's recent track record isn't very good -

:16:22.:16:23.

despite headliners such as Ed Sheeran, Fusion Festival

:16:24.:16:25.

failed to make things work and has moved to Liverpool.

:16:26.:16:27.

Wireless Festival, scheduled for at least three years

:16:28.:16:29.

in the city, lasted just one, due to poor ticket sales.

:16:30.:16:32.

What's different about this new one, though, is its location -

:16:33.:16:34.

in the heart of Birmingham, Eastside City Park was the venue for

:16:35.:16:37.

With up to 10,000 tickets a day, Beyond The Tracks Festival will need

:16:38.:16:42.

similar numbers if it's to cement a place on the Birmingham

:16:43.:16:45.

Let's speak to -- one of the organisers of the festival. John,

:16:46.:17:02.

we've heard that the big festivals have failed in Birmingham. Why will

:17:03.:17:08.

this succeed? I think previous attempts have come from maybe

:17:09.:17:14.

companies outside the city. Our local knowledge and partnerships and

:17:15.:17:17.

access to the local music scene I think will make as a success.

:17:18.:17:24.

We know that Birmingham sells almost 1 million concert tickets a year,

:17:25.:17:30.

the bubble people don't buy tickets for the big festivals. Why is that?

:17:31.:17:34.

I think if you bought a line-up together that people are going to

:17:35.:17:38.

kill for a ticket for, then, you know, you are good to have success.

:17:39.:17:45.

We will find that in September. Birmingham is missing a big

:17:46.:17:48.

festival, that's the one thing in the calendar it doesn't have. Yes,

:17:49.:17:54.

we've run smaller festivals, this will be our first foray into a

:17:55.:17:58.

bigger festival. Let's talk about the line-up. It has got a really

:17:59.:18:12.

strong line-up,. Ocean Colour Scene. Editors. Throughout the line-up

:18:13.:18:18.

there smaller bands from Birmingham, -- there are. So hopefully everybody

:18:19.:18:25.

comes together and comes out for it. The festival takes place between the

:18:26.:18:27.

15th and the 20th of September. Four months ago, Birmingham

:18:28.:18:33.

got its first boxing world champion. Dan Pallet has joined me -

:18:34.:18:36.

who are we talking about? His name is Tommy Langford, but he

:18:37.:18:46.

is far more -- far more from being -- just a boxer.

:18:47.:18:55.

Four months ago, Khalid Yafai became Birmingham's first

:18:56.:18:56.

But in 2017, Tommy Langford could become the second.

:18:57.:19:00.

He's unbeaten in 18 professional fights.

:19:01.:19:01.

And a week on Saturday, he's fighting to become

:19:02.:19:03.

the WBO's interim world champion at middleweight.

:19:04.:19:05.

Concentrate - you're going to need to.

:19:06.:19:08.

Tommy Langford is always on the move, he's got quick hands

:19:09.:19:11.

Above him towers a giant poster, bearing the face

:19:12.:19:19.

of Georgia's Avtandil Khurtsidze - the boxer who stands

:19:20.:19:21.

He's highly avoided by all the top operators, but ultimately,

:19:22.:19:28.

beating him puts me on the platform of those operators and gives me

:19:29.:19:31.

the chance to fight and mix with the elite in the world,

:19:32.:19:35.

and it gives me the right to start talking about the big, big names,

:19:36.:19:38.

Victory at Leicester a week on Saturday would make Tommy

:19:39.:19:44.

the interim world champion for the WBO at middleweight.

:19:45.:19:47.

And if the current champion, Billy Joe Saunders, doesn't

:19:48.:19:49.

fight him for the outright title within six months,

:19:50.:19:52.

His coach at Hall Green Boxing Club

:19:53.:19:57.

has watched him develop over many years.

:19:58.:20:01.

In dark gyms, cold runs, everything else.

:20:02.:20:06.

So the reward isn't now as such, it's just happened overnight -

:20:07.:20:09.

it's been going a long, long time and he's ready.

:20:10.:20:11.

But 27-year-old Tommy has further talents.

:20:12.:20:12.

Once the gloves are off - the trainers are on.

:20:13.:20:15.

And just a week after his fight, Tommy will join 7,000 others

:20:16.:20:18.

He covers the distance five times a week in training anyway.

:20:19.:20:24.

Yeah, makes a difference to doing it, you know,

:20:25.:20:27.

ten o'clock at night plodding round Selly Oak on my own,

:20:28.:20:33.

so that'll be nice, something to chase.

:20:34.:20:35.

And I will be chasing people, I ain't that quick!

:20:36.:20:41.

Tommy also has a degree in sports science from Birmingham University,

:20:42.:20:44.

and he's a big fan of West Bromwich Albion.

:20:45.:20:46.

But from the age of 11 he's dreamt of becoming

:20:47.:20:48.

a world boxing champion - that dream could be within grasp.

:20:49.:20:53.

Let's talk about football, and some great news for the Stoke

:20:54.:21:01.

Yes, it's taken a year, but he's finally played again.

:21:02.:21:16.

We filmed him back in training three weeks ago, but last night

:21:17.:21:19.

he played a full game for Stoke's U23s against Brighton.

:21:20.:21:26.

They lost 2-0, but he said he was "so happy to be back."

:21:27.:21:30.

And Birmingham City Ladies are just 90 minutes away from Wembley.

:21:31.:21:32.

Yes, on Easter Monday they're at home to Chelsea

:21:33.:21:34.

This afternoon two of the Blues players, Sophie Baggaley

:21:35.:21:38.

and Jessica Carter, were supporting a new FA scheme to encourage

:21:39.:21:41.

young girls to share their football dreams.

:21:42.:21:42.

And for Birmingham City Ladies, that means clinching their place

:21:43.:21:45.

We don't think we're underdogs any more, we know that we can go

:21:46.:21:49.

and compete with the best teams such as Chelsea and Man City and Arsenal,

:21:50.:21:52.

So we expect from ourselves to get to the final.

:21:53.:21:56.

Everyone gets on really well, everyone's training really hard,

:21:57.:22:01.

pushing each other in training, and that's only a good thing,

:22:02.:22:03.

so come Monday hopefully that'll be evident in our performance.

:22:04.:22:09.

Terrific achievement, let's hope they continue.

:22:10.:22:22.

For those of a certain generation, the idea of make do

:22:31.:22:32.

There are two things certain in life - kids love toys,

:22:33.:22:38.

Which is why Repair Cafe Coventry is proving popular this Easter.

:22:39.:22:42.

An idea which started in Europe has now come to Coventry city centre.

:22:43.:22:45.

Commentary just has the most fantastic history of invention and

:22:46.:22:53.

intervention -- innovation. -- Coventry. I've got kids growing up

:22:54.:22:58.

in the city, and I wanted this kind of space for them.

:22:59.:23:00.

This free initiative is supported by Coventry and Warwick University,

:23:01.:23:03.

as well as the City Council, aiming to encourage upcycling

:23:04.:23:05.

and introduce young minds to engineering skills.

:23:06.:23:08.

It was a robot, and it stopped working. Today, the people here are

:23:09.:23:23.

helping me fix it. It is fun, because it helps you fix toys and in

:23:24.:23:28.

years to come you don't need to throw them away. So hopefully will

:23:29.:23:31.

-- you will be able to fix all your time when you are grown up. And now

:23:32.:23:37.

they will not have to buy lots of new ones! Yes. -- and your mum.

:23:38.:23:41.

But it's not just kids that have been attracted to Repair Cafe -

:23:42.:23:44.

I've got this old vintage goal, which has lost its arms. And I had a

:23:45.:23:55.

go at repairing it myself. -- this old vintage goal. I thought somebody

:23:56.:24:08.

here could help me do it. Judging by how the children are enjoying

:24:09.:24:12.

themselves her, this place would be the last of its kind.

:24:13.:24:14.

With plans to hold Repair Cafe monthly, don't throw away those

:24:15.:24:17.

And if you're looking for a Fab Lab near you,

:24:18.:24:25.

then you can log onto fablabs.io - I know it's a funny website

:24:26.:24:28.

Let's catch up on the weather, Shefali is with me -

:24:29.:24:34.

If you are looking for anything substantial, there isn't much on

:24:35.:24:50.

offer. But as far as today went, it was full steam ahead. We had some

:24:51.:24:56.

pleasant spells of sunshine, and so were the temperatures. Just a

:24:57.:25:00.

fraction of what we had over the weekend, but very nice nonetheless.

:25:01.:25:06.

These are slightly above the average for the time of year which is about

:25:07.:25:11.

12. We had a bit of fair weather cloud bubbling up from time to time,

:25:12.:25:15.

however it did stay dry across much of the reason -- region. However,

:25:16.:25:21.

now we have got a slight fly in the ointment in the form of this cold

:25:22.:25:25.

front which is slipping sideways is -- south eastwards through tonight.

:25:26.:25:30.

The high pressure should weaken it substantially. It opens at the

:25:31.:25:34.

gateway to more unsettled conditions, slightly more unsettled

:25:35.:25:38.

conditions, for the remainder the weekend -- the week and Easter

:25:39.:25:42.

weekend. But the rain should become lighter on Thursday and Friday.

:25:43.:25:45.

Tonight we have some pleasant spells of sunshine to round of the day, and

:25:46.:25:50.

then into the evening, starting off with clear spells but then that

:25:51.:25:55.

cloud starting to increase. It should stay dry tonight, but then

:25:56.:25:59.

the cloud will have the effect of holding temperatures up at around

:26:00.:26:04.

seven or eight Celsius. Tomorrow it will be cloudy, through the day that

:26:05.:26:08.

cloud will thin and break to produce brightness and sunny spells, but

:26:09.:26:13.

behind that we've got some showery outbreaks of rain. Just the odd

:26:14.:26:17.

heavier bust, but temperatures are bit lower than today, rising to

:26:18.:26:24.

about 11 or 12 Celsius. -- just the odd heavier bust. So that breeze

:26:25.:26:31.

slowly coming down tomorrow night, Clay was spells, but cloud breaking

:26:32.:26:34.

up quite nicely so it will be a sunny start of the day on Thursday,

:26:35.:26:38.

but we are looking at quite a bit of cloud developing on Thursday and

:26:39.:26:40.

also Good Friday. -- cloudy spells. On tomorrow's programme,

:26:41.:26:44.

we've been on the river bank - as the Environment Agency tackles

:26:45.:26:46.

illegal elver smuggling. Exporting elvers outside the EU

:26:47.:26:48.

is banned, but those who break that law can

:26:49.:26:50.

make millions of pounds. We'll have a special report

:26:51.:26:53.

on the growing problem. When sold into a share, those Elvis

:26:54.:27:07.

can be worth as much as ?6,000 per kilo.

:27:08.:27:15.

That's all from us for now, I'll be back at 10:30

:27:16.:27:36.

There have never been so many people in work -

:27:37.:27:38.

that's what the Government keeps telling us.

:27:39.:27:41.

But what's the reality of this Tory jobs bonanza?

:27:42.:27:45.

Well, if you're one of the millions of people working on

:27:46.:27:49.

a contract without fixed hours or days, then it's not so good.
