Good evening. news where you are. | :00:07. | :00:07.
Police are hunting a gang of up to 200 bikers who caused ch`os | :00:08. | :00:10.
on the streets of Solihull and Birmingham last night. | :00:11. | :00:13.
Seven people have been arrested and ten motorbikes seized, | :00:14. | :00:15.
but the so-called Halloween Ride-Out was just the latest in a series | :00:16. | :00:20.
of incidents in the area in the last few months. | :00:21. | :00:22.
All quiet there tonight, Nicola It is a very different scene tonight. | :00:23. | :00:42.
Last night, this road was crammed with bikers who were driving without | :00:43. | :00:46.
causing damage to vehicles. People causing damage to vehicles. People | :00:47. | :00:50.
here simply want to know who is behind it and the police want to | :00:51. | :00:54.
catch those people who they describe as criminal. | :00:55. | :00:56.
These are the 200 bikers police are describing as "a menace". | :00:57. | :00:59.
Riding scramblers, quad bikds and mopeds, the gang hijackdd | :01:00. | :01:02.
the road in Kings Norton just after 9pm last night. | :01:03. | :01:04.
The group wasn't just out for an evening ride. | :01:05. | :01:08.
A police van was attacked and there are reports fireworks | :01:09. | :01:13.
Hundreds of bikes came, like, loads of them. | :01:14. | :01:18.
I was like, whoa, what's going on here? | :01:19. | :01:21.
About 150 of them, really loud, skidding across the road, | :01:22. | :01:25.
Are they causing any danger to people on the roads | :01:26. | :01:36.
Many of the riders had their faces covered as they sped along roads, | :01:37. | :01:42.
jumped red lights, weaved through traffic | :01:43. | :01:45.
Officers say their actions were illegal | :01:46. | :01:54.
and they're looking for those involved. | :01:55. | :01:56.
These people do pose a thre`t to ordinary members of the public. | :01:57. | :02:00.
I have a lot of sympathy for members of the public | :02:01. | :02:03.
and then encountering this lot on the roads. | :02:04. | :02:08.
We have described them as a menace and that is exactly what thdy are, | :02:09. | :02:13.
In Leeds, similar scenes filmed last night. | :02:14. | :02:17.
All part of what's being called a Halloween ride-out, | :02:18. | :02:22.
and it seems to have been organised and choreographed | :02:23. | :02:24.
This was shot two weeks ago in Kings Norton. | :02:25. | :02:32.
It has been like this now on and off for about two months now. | :02:33. | :02:36.
They ride round with no hellets on, no number plates, | :02:37. | :02:39.
no lights, so it is getting out of hand. | :02:40. | :02:43.
This event scared locals, but at least one biker was hurt too, | :02:44. | :02:48.
suffering chest injuries after colliding with a car. | :02:49. | :02:57.
So, Nicola, what are the police say they are doing about this? | :02:58. | :03:01.
The police say these types of events are very difficult to plan for, | :03:02. | :03:04.
especially where you have slall groups of bikers speeding off | :03:05. | :03:10.
in different directions, as it makes it is hard for officers | :03:11. | :03:12.
However, they say they are running a long-term operation to tackle | :03:13. | :03:16.
the problem and they are working closely with Birmingham Citx Council | :03:17. | :03:19.
They also say that if a member of the public suspects anyone | :03:20. | :03:23.
is using a bike illegally or has a stolen bike | :03:24. | :03:26.
A school in Shropshire had to apologise to nearby residents, | :03:27. | :03:31.
after the bomb squad was called in to blow up a bottle of chemicals | :03:32. | :03:34.
Thomas Adams in Wem was one of three schools in the Midlands which had | :03:35. | :03:41.
The Shropshire school says they didn't have time | :03:42. | :03:45.
to send out a warning and were following official advice. | :03:46. | :03:47.
It was the noise that got the Shropshire town of Wem talking. | :03:48. | :03:57.
For those living nearby, last night's explosion came | :03:58. | :03:59.
And they didn't expect it to make such a big bang! | :04:00. | :04:10.
I walked to the school to sde what it was about, | :04:11. | :04:12.
because everyone said it was a bomb that had gone off. | :04:13. | :04:15.
So I went to see what it was, but it wasn't. | :04:16. | :04:19.
The answer to that can be found at the Thomas Adams School. | :04:20. | :04:24.
Over half-term, they receivdd an e-mail warning them | :04:25. | :04:29.
about a chemical used by A-level students, which stated... | :04:30. | :04:51.
This chemical is an orange to red powder that if it becomes dry, | :04:52. | :04:56.
can become explosive on the friction turn. | :04:57. | :04:59.
So, with the container, if the lid was to be opened | :05:00. | :05:03.
The school checked and found it did have an old bottle of the chemical, | :05:04. | :05:11.
so they called the police, who called the bomb squad. | :05:12. | :05:14.
The bomb disposal team came from Tewkesbury. | :05:15. | :05:17.
They got the chemical and btried it about one foot in the ground. | :05:18. | :05:20.
And then, at six minutes to eight, they detonated the substancd. | :05:21. | :05:24.
And now this is all that relains from the Wem explosion. | :05:25. | :05:30.
Wem is a quiet market town and people aren't used | :05:31. | :05:32.
Certainly having a bomb disposal squad, as seen around the town, | :05:33. | :05:37.
probably sparked a little bit of interest. | :05:38. | :05:40.
But I think people have perhaps panicked slightly | :05:41. | :05:43.
With all the school's stock of the chemical disposed of, things | :05:44. | :05:52.
A video has emerged which appears to show a football fan being pushed | :05:53. | :06:00.
over by a West Midlands polhce officer at Sunday's game between | :06:01. | :06:04.
The video was posted online earlier today. | :06:05. | :06:09.
The force's Professional St`ndards Department says the highest | :06:10. | :06:12.
standards are expected from officers and anyone who's acted | :06:13. | :06:15.
The Government's come under further pressure to give financial support | :06:16. | :06:21.
to the families of the victhms of the Birmingham pub bombings. | :06:22. | :06:24.
Fresh inquests are due to bd held into the 21 victims | :06:25. | :06:27.
Relatives want the same sort of funding provided for famhlies | :06:28. | :06:32.
Labour's Justice spokesman Richard Burgon raised the issue | :06:33. | :06:38.
in the Commons earlier, which drew this response | :06:39. | :06:40.
In terms of the debate about how we deal with these very difficult | :06:41. | :06:45.
inquests in this very speci`l category of cases, and made it clear | :06:46. | :06:51.
in the debate that the Home Office and the Ministry of Justice | :06:52. | :06:55.
are working on that, looking at the precedents | :06:56. | :06:57.
of what happened with Hillsborough, waiting for Bishop James Jones' | :06:58. | :07:01.
report and also we will look at all the matters that havd been | :07:02. | :07:05.
who're winning over millions of fans online | :07:06. | :07:11.
and earning thousands of potnds from the videos they post. | :07:12. | :07:15.
Peter Plisner has been to mdet the digital entrepreneurs - | :07:16. | :07:19.
a young gamer who gets paid to test video games and a young wom`n | :07:20. | :07:22.
who has fashion blogging and a new clothing line all sewn up. | :07:23. | :07:28.
Meet the YouTube generation - young people earning thousands | :07:29. | :07:30.
This is professional YouTubdr Fred Pye making his latest video | :07:31. | :07:40.
He's a big fan of the video game Grand Theft Auto and millions | :07:41. | :07:46.
of people log in to see how he plays the game. | :07:47. | :07:50.
He spends most of the day m`king videos, and they're | :07:51. | :07:56.
This one pitting a tram against a series of tanks, | :07:57. | :08:00.
has been seen by more than a million people. | :08:01. | :08:03.
And that means that what was once a hobby for Fred | :08:04. | :08:07.
I told my friend I wanted to earn enough to maybe pay rent | :08:08. | :08:12.
or something or just get by and stuff. | :08:13. | :08:15.
But that was three or four years ago, or something. | :08:16. | :08:17.
Then a few years later, it's just kind of... | :08:18. | :08:19.
YouTubers like Fred earn thdir money from adverts placed | :08:20. | :08:28.
It is thought they receive on average around $2 for evdry | :08:29. | :08:35.
Fred's YouTube channel gets on average around | :08:36. | :08:38.
so that would mean he could be earning $20,000, | :08:39. | :08:45.
And some YouTubers also makd money thorough sponsorship deals. | :08:46. | :08:51.
It makes sure your under eyes don't... | :08:52. | :08:54.
And blogger Habiba Da Silva does just that. | :08:55. | :08:56.
Around a million people a month watch her makeup videos, recorded | :08:57. | :08:59.
For her, YouTube provides the ideal medium. | :09:00. | :09:05.
They relate to me because I am just like anyone else, I am not really | :09:06. | :09:09.
an actress, I am not someone on a TV channel | :09:10. | :09:11.
I am literally being myself, and the genuineness on soci`l media | :09:12. | :09:17.
really attracts people a lot more than TV nowadays. | :09:18. | :09:22.
And for Habiba, YouTube poptlarity has also helped her launch | :09:23. | :09:25.
It's proof that you don't nded expensive studios | :09:26. | :09:28.
and a big advertising budget to make it big. | :09:29. | :09:34.
One football result to bring you this evening | :09:35. | :09:36.
and in League One, Coventry City beat Chesterfield 2-0 at hole. | :09:37. | :09:46.
The wind stretches their unbeaten home record to 14 matches. That s | :09:47. | :09:51.
all from me, I will leave you with a forecast. | :09:52. | :09:56.
Good evening. Now we are into November, it is as though someone | :09:57. | :10:00.
has flicked the switch and temperatures are starting to slip, | :10:01. | :10:03.
as you probably felt today that it wasn't helped by the foggy lorning, | :10:04. | :10:09.
which lifted into plenty of cloud across the region. As you c`n see | :10:10. | :10:13.
from this last photograph, there was a chink of clear skies by the end of | :10:14. | :10:17.
the day and that is going to continue through the night. It is | :10:18. | :10:22.
going to be called unfairly frosted in the countryside, dry and clear. | :10:23. | :10:26.
What he's doing it is this `rea of high pressure building in from the | :10:27. | :10:31.
west, things settled. The frontal system that produced rain today is | :10:32. | :10:34.
well ahead to the south and the next front comes in and by the thme you | :10:35. | :10:39.
to Thursday, it comes in from the west and will produce rain but at | :10:40. | :10:44.
the moment, quite settled and dry, it is clear, very cold in the | :10:45. | :10:48.
countryside, temperatures dhpping to freezing waters below. For towns and | :10:49. | :10:54.
cities those of two Celsius and we could get patches of mist in the | :10:55. | :10:59.
morning. Tomorrow, a cracking day, dry and highs of 11 Celsius. | :11:00. | :11:02.
couple of days, frosty mornings before turning unsettled. Good You | :11:03. | :11:12.
know what, in evening. the last few days, much | :11:13. | :11:17.
more following the calendar. A warm end to October, 1st November, abrupt | :11:18. | :11:21.
change to the weather. In fact over the next few days, we will be | :11:22. | :11:25.
getting colder air all the way from the north, almost from Arctic | :11:26. | :11:29.
regions, a real nip in the air particularly for folks getting up | :11:30. | :11:32.
early in the morning A good frost around and there is a frost on the | :11:33. | :11:36.
way tonight. This is what is happening on the satellite. This | :11:37. | :11:39.
ribbon of cloud is a cold front Watch the clouds in the north. See, | :11:40. | :11:44.
they are coming in from the north, where the air is coming from. This | :11:45. | :11:48.
cold front is moving southwards and away from us and the colder air in | :11:49. | :11:52.
the north is oozing down across the UK and by the early hours of | :11:53. | :11:56.
Wednesday, we are all in the | :11:57. | :11:58. |
