The parents of murdered soldier Lee Rigby are setting up a respite

:00:08.:00:15.

centre for bereaved families veterans in Staffordshire.

:00:16.:00:17.

Lyn and Ian set up the Lee Rigby Foundation after their son Lee

:00:18.:00:21.

was killed in a machete attack in Woolwich, London in 2013.

:00:22.:00:23.

Work's now started on two properties that have been donated

:00:24.:00:26.

Here's our Staffordshire reporter Sian Grzeszczyk.

:00:27.:00:33.

This is one of the properties that's being transformed into a retreat

:00:34.:00:38.

for beareaved families and veterans, and today was a chance

:00:39.:00:41.

for the Rigby family to see how work is progressing.

:00:42.:00:44.

If you are not next of kin you don't get any support.

:00:45.:00:47.

There is nothing like the retreat place where we could go and

:00:48.:00:53.

get away from the cameras and the stress and have

:00:54.:00:55.

25-year-old Lee was murdered by two Islamist extremists outside

:00:56.:01:05.

worked hard to set up the foundation in his name to try

:01:06.:01:13.

The site at Oakamoor is owned by the Kendo Nagasaki foundation

:01:14.:01:19.

who already run a retreat of their own here, they've donated

:01:20.:01:21.

Now the family needs to raise the funds

:01:22.:01:27.

to renovate, which will be quite a job.

:01:28.:01:29.

We need, windows and doors for this place.

:01:30.:01:31.

Everything which would go to a normal house build, this thing

:01:32.:01:42.

If there is anybody out there who can help, we'd love them

:01:43.:01:46.

This used to be a former care home but it has been

:01:47.:01:50.

Once it is transformed, they will be able to house 13 families here.

:01:51.:01:54.

What do you think Lee would make of this?

:01:55.:01:56.

He would be loving it because he was really

:01:57.:01:58.

upset the way some of the

:01:59.:02:00.

bereaved families were treated so that is why we have to do it.

:02:01.:02:03.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man

:02:04.:02:12.

The 33-year-old, who was sitting in a stationary car

:02:13.:02:16.

on Dartmouth Street, died from a gunshot

:02:17.:02:17.

Police arrested the two local men, aged 19 and 24, a short time later.

:02:18.:02:24.

Investigations have been continuing today at the scene.

:02:25.:02:30.

And, in a separate incident, police are investigating after a man

:02:31.:02:32.

from Walsall was taken to hospital on Christmas Day

:02:33.:02:35.

The 26-year-old was shot in the stomach in Farmstead Close

:02:36.:02:39.

in the Palfrey area on Sunday evening.

:02:40.:02:42.

He remains in a serious condition in hospital.

:02:43.:02:45.

Detectives are carrying out house to house, CCTV and forensic

:02:46.:02:47.

Hospitals are receiving more money than ever from car park charges,

:02:48.:02:55.

with the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust

:02:56.:02:57.

collecting more than most, according to a survey.

:02:58.:03:00.

Heart of England which runs Solihull, Heartlands

:03:01.:03:02.

and Good Hope Hospitals, made ?4.8 million in the last

:03:03.:03:04.

But the Trust says the funds go towards providing safe

:03:05.:03:11.

The cause of a huge gas explosion - which destroyed a home and left

:03:12.:03:20.

a pensioner with serious injuries - may never be known.

:03:21.:03:23.

It happened in Penn in Wolverhampton on this day last year.

:03:24.:03:25.

The blast caused considerable damage to surrounding properties.

:03:26.:03:27.

Here's our Black Country reporter Ben Godfrey.

:03:28.:03:32.

Daljit Uppal has been out of the family home

:03:33.:03:34.

After a gas blast which destroyed his

:03:35.:03:39.

When it fell, part of it fell against the side of

:03:40.:03:46.

my house and took the side of my house.

:03:47.:03:50.

We had one side of my house demolished and it was rebuilt.

:03:51.:03:55.

I would like to have been back in the

:03:56.:03:56.

Unfortunately it has taken a lot longer than we

:03:57.:04:01.

A pile of rubble - and fractured gas pipes -

:04:02.:04:06.

it's the ever present reminder that the explosion could have

:04:07.:04:09.

injured Daljit's wife who was in the kitchen at the time.

:04:10.:04:13.

Where she had been standing, the TV just thrown across,

:04:14.:04:15.

Wendy Ayoub, the owner, who's in her seventies,

:04:16.:04:27.

Incredibly, emergency services said her life may have been saved

:04:28.:04:31.

by a tumble dryer which protected her from falling masonry.

:04:32.:04:36.

Wendy says the explosion is still too raw for

:04:37.:04:38.

She is hopeful of moving back here and plans of an

:04:39.:04:51.

Daljit has finally finished his extension -

:04:52.:04:55.

now the inside is being furnished with the family moving

:04:56.:04:57.

We haven't had a full explanation as to what exactly happened

:04:58.:05:01.

National Grid investigated the Penn Road gas explosion

:05:02.:05:05.

and said none of its pipes or meters were faulty.

:05:06.:05:09.

The cause of the blast may never be known.

:05:10.:05:12.

:05:13.:05:21.

Darts champion Phil Taylor says he's determined to win a 17th world darts

:05:22.:05:25.

title this week because the time's approaching

:05:26.:05:27.

It's four years since Taylor, who's from Stoke-on-Trent,

:05:28.:05:30.

in the next year, it's time for him to "slow down".

:05:31.:05:42.

And you can listen again to a special BBC Radio Stoke

:05:43.:05:44.

documentary about Phil Taylor on the BBC iplayer.

:05:45.:05:47.

The weather's coming up with Shefali.

:05:48.:05:49.

It was another beautiful day across the

:05:50.:05:55.

To look at this picture, you would not have thought

:05:56.:06:00.

we had to grapple with dense patches of fog.

:06:01.:06:04.

However we do it all again tonight and tomorrow morning with

:06:05.:06:07.

this yellow warning in place until midday.

:06:08.:06:09.

The fog develops across the East tonight but it is quite widespread

:06:10.:06:13.

Light winds tomorrow, that fog will struggle to lift,

:06:14.:06:25.

once it does, it's another fine day with a good deal of

:06:26.:06:28.

sunshine with temperatures around 5C.

:06:29.:06:30.

As we have seen today, the weather can be a thing of real beauty, but

:06:31.:06:45.

also a real menace. Lovely shot taken this afternoon

:06:46.:06:46.
