Sporting stars dominate the list of Midlanders decorated

in the New Year Honours, which have been published

Top billing goes to a Paralympian who already has an astonishing 30

Staffordshire's Lee Pearson has been awarded a knighthood

His gold medal in Rio was his eleventh in a glittering

Paralympic career which stretches back over five games.

Staying on horseback, and there's a CBE for Nick Skelton

from Warwickshire who won a showjumping gold in Brazil

and for Gloucestershire's Charlotte Dujardin, who won gold

Paralympic swimmer Sascha Kindred from Herefordshire also picks up

the CBE after winning gold in the pool in Rio.

Adam Peaty from Uttoxeter is also recognised -

he gets an MBE after he won the 100-metre breaststroke

Away from sport there was an MBE for Marcia Shakespeare for her work

as a volunteer on gang, gun and knife projects.

Her teenage daughter Letisha was killed in a shooting

It's a bittersweet moment in the sense Letisha went out

on a New Year and lost her life from being murdered.

The sweet moment is there's a reward at the end,

that all of the work and effort I've put in to make a change

There was also an MBE for Karen Ross from Walsall for services

to the reduction of knife crime among young people.

Her 16-year-old daughter Rosie was stabbed to death while sunbathing

in Birmingham City Centre 15 years ago.

The family of a Wolverhampton man who was shot dead as he sat

in a parked car have paid tribute to a "devoted father,

33-year-old Carl Campbell was shot on Tuesday.

It's since emerged he was jailed seven years ago for a hit and run

His family say it was an accident and he panicked.

Two men, Mohammed Humza and Vikesh Chauhan,

appeared via video-link at Wolverhampton Crown Court earlier

charged with Mr Campbell's murder and were remanded in custody.

A trial's begun in the Midlands to test whether giving blood

to patients on board air ambulances will save more lives.

At present patients who are bleeding don't usually get a transfusion

Duncan Buckley's body buckled and shattered in a car crash.

He was in a coma for a month and needed 25 operations.

The air ambulance gave him saline at the scene,

but would giving him blood have been better?

Some air ambulances give blood and clotting plasma,

some red blood cells, some saline, but now

the Midlands Air Ambulance is leading a national investigation

across ten treatment centres to find out whether giving blood before

Prehospital medicine is becoming more and more widely recognised

We want to find out if what we are doing in our area

The patients who qualify will be near death -

no pulse, serious injuries, haemorrhaging with a blood

These boxes are made by the Royal Wolverhampton Hospital.

Medics here don't know if they contain blood or salty water.

It's important to know if the blood works because if they used

them on helicopters, it could take up a large part

500 patients will be followed over the next three years.

The study is led by Birmingham University

This was a trial that was deemed impossible due to the complexity

We now have an expertise in prehospital research

And that means offers to undertake other research projects,

It was another foggy day today and fog will be persisting

as we head through tonight and we still have a yellow warning

For mostly eastern parts, we could get some freezing fog

High pressure is still holding on, but we are starting to pick

up a bit of a breeze as we head into tomorrow.

That breeze will break the cloud down a little bit.

Some clear spells to come tonight and where we get that,

our temperatures will fall away and we could also see some more fog

patches developing with lows of a possible 1 Celsius

in Herefordshire, but elsewhere holding up a little

But it's another cloudy start to the day tomorrow with some more

Perhaps a few spots of drizzle across the north of the region

but some breaks in the cloud by the afternoon with some

But it should be dry and clear as we head through to midnight.

Then there's a band of rain for New Year's Day from the west

and behind that, something much colder on the way.
