More than 17 million drivers are expected to take to the roads

:00:07.:00:10.

over the Easter holiday weekend, with many of them passing

:00:11.:00:13.

Figures show that Good Friday afternoon is the worst day

:00:14.:00:17.

to travel, with drivers spending 25% longer in their car

:00:18.:00:20.

Here's our travel correspondent, Peter Plisner.

:00:21.:00:27.

This is what you will probably encounter at the

:00:28.:00:30.

busiest times, but there are ways of avoiding the worst congestion

:00:31.:00:32.

On busy days, people really see the value of this...

:00:33.:00:37.

Finlay Clark runs the free traffic app, WAZE,

:00:38.:00:41.

of the most accurate satnavs when it comes to traffic alerts.

:00:42.:00:46.

All of the information we are getting is from

:00:47.:00:48.

real drivers out on the roads, so everyone is crowdsourcing and

:00:49.:00:52.

sharing their traffic data, so we can see all the traffic

:00:53.:00:55.

and route you around it so that you avoid the traffic.

:00:56.:00:59.

Satnavs will certainly come in handy, as

:01:00.:01:02.

extra journeys over the bank holiday weekend put even more strains

:01:03.:01:05.

It has been a mixed picture on the roads so

:01:06.:01:11.

far today, but tomorrow, Good Friday, is expected to be

:01:12.:01:13.

the busiest, as five million drivers head out on the

:01:14.:01:15.

The busiest time will be between 10am and 2pm.

:01:16.:01:20.

Saturday could be busy too, as shoppers mix with long-distance

:01:21.:01:23.

Just as well that Highways England has lifted many roadworks.

:01:24.:01:29.

We think, based on previous experience, it does make quite a big

:01:30.:01:32.

and significant difference to people's movements.

:01:33.:01:36.

But not for drivers on the M5, where long-running roadworks look set to

:01:37.:01:39.

continue for now, and further up the motorway, next Tuesday sees

:01:40.:01:43.

the start of a two-year renovation scheme on a viaduct.

:01:44.:01:48.

We are trying to encourage people to consider using

:01:49.:01:50.

other modes of transport, or if you have to use the car,

:01:51.:01:53.

do you necessarily have to come up the M5?

:01:54.:01:56.

Could you get around Birmingham using another route?

:01:57.:01:59.

The best advice, both before and after

:02:00.:02:00.

Easter, has to be, avoid travelling at the busiest times.

:02:01.:02:07.

Well, our reporter, Ben Sidwell, is near the M5

:02:08.:02:09.

So what's the traffic picture there tonight?

:02:10.:02:18.

As you can see, it is running very nicely, which makes a change. These

:02:19.:02:27.

roadworks have been here since January last year. The stretch from

:02:28.:02:31.

Worcester up to junction five, about seven miles, will stay for the

:02:32.:02:35.

Easter weekend. It is one of the only stretches of motorway in the

:02:36.:02:38.

country that will have roadworks over the Easter weekend, 105 miles

:02:39.:02:45.

of roadworks in the Midlands have had them taken away for this

:02:46.:02:49.

weekend. The problem is, the hard shoulder is still out, 50 miles an

:02:50.:02:56.

hour, a breakdown here and this could be one of the biggest

:02:57.:03:02.

bottlenecks in the country this weekend. This work should be cleared

:03:03.:03:09.

by about June, but the problems are further north up the M5. Between

:03:10.:03:14.

junction two and junction one, those roadworks at the viaduct will last

:03:15.:03:19.

for two years, and the speed limits ten to 30 miles an hour will begin

:03:20.:03:23.

on cheese day, so it is a very short respite. Problems too on the trains

:03:24.:03:30.

this weekend. No trains are running between Wolverhampton and Telford,

:03:31.:03:32.

because of a bridge around Albrighton being replaced. It is

:03:33.:03:39.

probably the best it be all weekend here just now on the M5.

:03:40.:03:47.

Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust

:03:48.:03:49.

are accused tonight of failing to properly investigate the deaths

:03:50.:03:51.

Jack Burn and Sophiya Hotchkiss died shortly after birth,

:03:52.:03:54.

but their families say their concerns were

:03:55.:03:56.

The local coroner is now considering opening an inquest

:03:57.:03:59.

Earlier, I spoke to the BBC's social affairs

:04:00.:04:02.

correspondent, Michael Buchanan, who has been investigating this story,

:04:03.:04:05.

and began by asking him how the families feel

:04:06.:04:07.

Essentially, what they are saying is that the deaths

:04:08.:04:10.

of their babies were never properly investigated,

:04:11.:04:13.

or they were certainly not involved in any investigations.

:04:14.:04:15.

Advice from the Royal College Of Obstetricians And Gynaecologists

:04:16.:04:18.

say that families should be involved in these types

:04:19.:04:21.

of investigations if the Trust, if the staff are going

:04:22.:04:25.

to learn the maximum amount from each tragic incident.

:04:26.:04:28.

Take the case of Steph Prowse, who went to the Royal

:04:29.:04:31.

Shrewsbury Hospital in September 2014.

:04:32.:04:34.

She was concerned, she was feeling unwell, she was concerned

:04:35.:04:37.

She was left in a side room for 40 minutes.

:04:38.:04:42.

By the time staff came to check on her, they

:04:43.:04:45.

realised that her daughter had a weak heartbeat, and though her

:04:46.:04:49.

daughter,Sophiya, was born, she died just hours later.

:04:50.:04:56.

If they had got her out before, I truly believe it would have been a

:04:57.:04:59.

I would not be sitting here talking to you,

:05:00.:05:03.

because I would have a three-year-old running around.

:05:04.:05:08.

It is not just that case, unfortunately.

:05:09.:05:09.

She went to the Princes Royal Hospital

:05:10.:05:13.

in Telford just six months later, in March of 2015.

:05:14.:05:17.

labour, lasting 36 hours, with many delays and mistakes, and though

:05:18.:05:25.

her son, Jack, was born, he too died within hours of his birth.

:05:26.:05:32.

Since we realised this and investigated this, because we have

:05:33.:05:36.

spoken to the coroner, who is now considering opening an inquest into

:05:37.:05:40.

More research into it, and someone accountable for killing my boy.

:05:41.:05:52.

That's the only words you can describe it,

:05:53.:05:54.

What has been the Trust's reaction to this?

:05:55.:06:02.

The Trust has said that they investigate all deaths, and they do

:06:03.:06:06.

They acknowledge as well that they need

:06:07.:06:11.

to improve their communication with families, probably

:06:12.:06:13.

an indication that in these two particular cases, at least,

:06:14.:06:17.

Gloucestershire Police have been strongly criticised

:06:18.:06:24.

Her Majesty's Inspector of Constabulary says

:06:25.:06:28.

it needs to improve its approach to crime prevention,

:06:29.:06:31.

anti-social behaviour and protection for vulnerable people.

:06:32.:06:35.

It also says it's deeply concerned the force lacks

:06:36.:06:37.

the fundamental arrangements to tackle organised crime.

:06:38.:06:41.

We do take a little bit of umbrage with the words "deeply concerning,"

:06:42.:06:44.

because that is not the picture we have in the county, and the crime

:06:45.:06:48.

figures do not reflect that either, so I think the message would be,

:06:49.:06:51.

"We accept you might have some concerns,

:06:52.:06:53.

"and as Commissioner, Martin has got concerns as well".

:06:54.:06:56.

"Deeply concerning," I think that sends out

:06:57.:06:57.

the wrong message to the public in Gloucestershire that we have a

:06:58.:07:00.

huge problem in the county, when we don't.

:07:01.:07:02.

A murderer who killed his former housemate in a "savage" street

:07:03.:07:06.

attack in Wolverhampton has been jailed for at least 40 years.

:07:07.:07:09.

Sivan Amin stabbed Mircea Cozmiuc only two years

:07:10.:07:13.

after he was released from prison for shooting someone

:07:14.:07:16.

Amin was found guilty of murder after a court heard how

:07:17.:07:21.

he ambushed his victim while wearing a balaclava.
