for the A nurse from Stepping Hill Hospital

in Stockport this morning appeared before Manchester City Magistrates'

Court to face numerous charges including three counts of mtrder.

48`year`old Victorino Chua `ppeared before magistrates in Manchdster

earlier today, charged with the murder of three people. He was

arrested at his home in Stockport yesterday morning. He also faces 22

counts of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent,

seven charges of attempting to administer poison, and one of

causing poison to be administered with intent. All the alleged

offences span a six`month pdriod between June 2011 and January 2 12

when patients at Stepping Hhll were poisoned. He was remanded in custody

to appear at Manchester Crown Court on Tuesday.

Assistant Chief Constable Steve Hayward told us: our thoughts

continue to be with those pdople who were deliberately poisoned, and

their families. Managers here say staff had shown great

professionalism throughout the investigation. The hospital says it

has worked closely with the police and will continue to providd any

support necessary. A man who killed his mother and

sister with an axe just two days after being sent home from ` mental

health unit was yesterday sdntenced to life imprisonment. Two pdople

arrested in connection with the death of a 13`month`old babx boy in

Preston last Saturday have been released on bail pending further

enquiries. Emergency servicds were called to reports that the child was

not breathing, at an address on Church Street. He died later in

hospital. The man and woman both aged 25 were arrested on suspicion

of murder on Thursday. Two people arrested in conndction

with the death of a 13`month`old baby boy in Preston last Saturday

have been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Sport and in rugby league l`st night, St Helens moved two points
