Good Evening. A provisional date has been set for the trial of the

nurse charged in connection with the alleged contamination of saline

at Stepping Hill Hospital. 27 year old Rebecca Leighton, appeared at

Manchester Crown Court via a video link. She has been charged with

seven offences including three counts of criminal damage with

intent to endanger life. Police are continuing to investigate the

deaths of four patients at the Stockport hospital.

Rebecca Leighton spoke by a video link from Styal Prison. She

confirmed her name and listened as BAA explains the complexity of the

case. Pathology tests are still to be carried out. The charges are

against the theft and tempering of saline product. 44-year-old Tracey

Arden, Arnold Lancaster, 71, Derek Weaver, 83 and Vera Pearson, 84

have been killed. They had unexplained a low blood

sugar levels. Last week, Greater Manchester Police said it was no

longer investigating the death of another patient at the centre of

the inquiry. The family of George Keep were told they were no longer

part of the investigation. Rebecca Leighton was remanded in custody

and will appear in court again in October when she is expected to

enter a plea. A provisional trial date has been set for February next

year. A coroner has recorded a verdict of unlawful killing after a

GP prescribed 60 tablets to a suicidal patient. Two days later 30

year old David Donohue from Ardwick, who suffered from alcohol addiction

and depression, used the pills to kill himself. The doctor, Kamprath

Sreedharan, had previously been warned by mental health specialists

not to prescribe more than two weeks medication.

David Donohue died after he drank whisky with Heminevrin, dread used

to treat alcohol withdrawal systems. Can print shed around authorised a

two month supplier of the drug over the phone to his mother. He didn't

see or speak to Mr Donoghue. Mr Donoghue's sister, Simone, was in

court to hear a verdict of unlawful killing. This inquest has provided

answers and an understanding as to what happened. If David had not

been given a prescription, he would not have died and none of us will

be put through this. The doctor prescribed the drug even though it

work -- risked death if taken with alcohol. It is possible the doctor

may have thought the benefits outweighed the risk. He didn't

discuss that with a patient, he didn't know what the risk was if

the patient continued to drink. He didn't see their patient at all and

that is where he went wrong. family hope lessons will be learnt

as a result of the verdicts. A man has appeared in court today in

connection with an attempted robbery at a florists in Old

Trafford. Another man died from stab wounds during the incident. 30

year-old Gary Mullings from New Moston was taken to hospital on

Tuesday night but died a short time later. The shopkeeper was arrested

on suspicion of murder but he's now been bailed. Kyle Mullings, who's

20, has been charged with robbery and remanded in custody.

An investigation is continuing today after a light aircraft crash

in Salford in which one man died and another was critically injured.

The plane exploded into flames when it hit houses at Peel Green shortly

after take off from Barton Airport on Friday. Ian Daglish who was 59

and from Alderley Edge died yesterday.

Liverpool City Council have announced plans for a purpose-built

facility, for people with dementia. It will be constructed next to

Sedgemoor Care Home in Norris Green and will be used by up to 30 people

a day when it opens in 2012. The new centre will be used for respite

care and there'll be an enclosed garden with allotments and raised
