Good evening, welcome to North West Tonight. Our top story: Big victory

:00:11.:00:16.

in the beautiful game or just a clash of cultures? The issue of

:00:17.:00:22.

racism rears its head as Luis Suarez is banned for eight matches.

:00:22.:00:26.

They have gone to make an example against discriminatory attitudes

:00:26.:00:32.

and behaviour within our sport. will hear from both sides of the

:00:32.:00:34.

argument as Liverpool stand by their man.

:00:35.:00:39.

Also, a sad farewell to the grand mother robbed of her late husband's

:00:39.:00:44.

ashes. We will make the NHS medics who have swapped the north-west for

:00:44.:00:48.

Afghanistan to run the biggest from a hospital in the world.

:00:48.:00:52.

And festive food for the less fortunate. The donations heading

:00:52.:00:56.

for the dinner tables of the homeless and the elderly this

:00:56.:01:06.
:01:06.:01:10.

Christmas. First, more than two decades after

:01:10.:01:13.

bananas were third and John Barnes in a Merseyside derby, the issue of

:01:13.:01:16.

racism has once again flared up in football.

:01:16.:01:20.

On the day that John Terry was charged with racial abuse,

:01:20.:01:25.

Liverpool is considering whether to appeal against the eight-match ban

:01:25.:01:29.

on Luis Suarez after the Football Association found him guilty of

:01:29.:01:33.

misconduct for abusing Manchester United's betrays every. In a moment

:01:33.:01:38.

we will hear from the chairman of the players' union, Clarke Carlisle.

:01:38.:01:42.

What might have looked like another minor spat in the intense

:01:42.:01:46.

atmosphere of a Liverpool, Manchester United match has taken

:01:47.:01:52.

on major significance. I think this is a very interesting case. It

:01:52.:01:55.

gives us an insight into the sort of things that have been going on

:01:55.:01:59.

for some time. This is the first case we have seen in the UK which

:01:59.:02:04.

has been prosecuted. But trees ever accused Luis Suarez of racially

:02:04.:02:10.

abusing him during their match in October. The word was understood to

:02:10.:02:15.

be "negrito", not always it would seem an offensive term in Luis

:02:15.:02:20.

Suarez's home town of Uruguay. are talking semantics and cultural

:02:20.:02:25.

values. How do you judge whether a word used in another language from

:02:25.:02:29.

another mindset is descriptive or pejorative? It must have been a

:02:29.:02:34.

very difficult decision. The FA panel would also have considered

:02:34.:02:38.

that Luis Suarez is no novice when it comes to the sensibilities of

:02:38.:02:42.

northern Europe. He had four seasons in Holland before moving to

:02:42.:02:47.

Liverpool. This enough going on for him to be aware that is not

:02:47.:02:53.

acceptable. It was said in a way when they were having an argument,

:02:53.:02:57.

a disagreement, so I cannot see that as a defence. The Liverpool

:02:57.:03:07.
:03:07.:03:18.

have yet to decide whether they are It is fairly harsh. He does not

:03:18.:03:24.

consider himself a racist. They could appeal it and hopefully he

:03:24.:03:28.

will appeal as well. They have named him a racist, which he isn't.

:03:28.:03:33.

This was always going to be a controversial ruling, but with

:03:33.:03:37.

polarise opinions amongst neutrals and Liverpool standing by their man,

:03:37.:03:43.

it is unlikely we will see a conclusion for some time yet.

:03:43.:03:47.

A little earlier I spoke to the Preston defender Clarke Carlisle,

:03:47.:03:51.

the chairman of the Professional Footballers' Association, and I

:03:51.:03:57.

asked him if he felt the punishment was a little harsh. No, not at all.

:03:57.:04:02.

I do not think the FA have gone to make an example of Luis Suarez

:04:02.:04:07.

himself, but it is an example we want to take in this industry

:04:07.:04:10.

against discriminatory behaviour within our sport. You can

:04:10.:04:15.

understand why Liverpool think it is a little harsh event what he is

:04:15.:04:19.

a post to head and in his own country it is not as offensive as

:04:19.:04:25.

it is in this country. It is one player's word against another.

:04:25.:04:29.

Liverpool brought forward the cultural differences as mitigating

:04:29.:04:35.

circumstances, but I do not think that is an excuse. And ignorance of

:04:36.:04:40.

our levels of our acceptability in England is not an excuse. If I go

:04:40.:04:44.

to Dubai with my wife we do not open Leakeys because we will be

:04:44.:04:49.

arrested and go to jail. It is about adapting to the society you

:04:49.:04:55.

work and live in. You adapt to your behaviour to their levels of

:04:55.:04:58.

acceptability and the laws of the game and the industry in which you

:04:58.:05:03.

are playing. Given the high number of overseas playing here, whose

:05:03.:05:08.

responsibility is it a major they know what they can and cannot do.

:05:08.:05:12.

We as a union go into the clubs every year and make sure the

:05:12.:05:17.

players are made aware of what is acceptable, their levels of

:05:17.:05:24.

responsibility. The fact they are seen as role models and leaders

:05:24.:05:29.

within their community, their actions should reflect that. I do

:05:29.:05:32.

believe the onus is on us as a union to make sure that when

:05:32.:05:38.

players come in from different cultures they are sat down and told

:05:38.:05:42.

what is acceptable in England and what we deem acceptable within our

:05:42.:05:48.

game. Clarke Carlisle, thank you. Later on Tony will be bringing as

:05:48.:05:53.

more reaction and the rest of the day's sport.

:05:53.:05:58.

The funeral has taken place of a grandmother who died after muggers

:05:58.:06:02.

stole the handbag containing her husband's ashes. Scores of people

:06:02.:06:06.

lined the streets of Shaw to pay respects to Nellie Geraghty who

:06:06.:06:11.

died from her head injuries. The service paid tribute to a

:06:11.:06:15.

vibrant, caring woman whose life was lost in such tragic

:06:15.:06:20.

circumstances. Market Street in Shaw came to a

:06:20.:06:23.

standstill in honour of Nellie Geraghty. Shopkeepers and shoppers

:06:23.:06:27.

paying their respects. From the youngest to the oldest everybody a

:06:27.:06:33.

shock. Everybody is showing their respect. I did not know her

:06:33.:06:38.

personally, but I think what has happened is an absolute shame.

:06:38.:06:44.

Nellie, 79, died from head injuries after being mugged on November 24th.

:06:44.:06:48.

The handbag stolen contained the ashes of her late husband Frank who

:06:48.:06:53.

died 17 years ago. Her which had always been to be laid to rest with

:06:53.:07:00.

those ashes, but they have not been recovered. During the service her

:07:00.:07:10.
:07:10.:07:11.

daughter Christine spoke movingly. It was her devotion to dad. It was

:07:11.:07:14.

her strength and her stubborn side that made her last movements in

:07:14.:07:22.

Shaw so awful, but she is with my dad's now. The choice of music was

:07:22.:07:26.

a clear sign that Nellie's family did not want the service to be

:07:26.:07:32.

sombre, rather a celebration of a life well lived. So many people

:07:32.:07:35.

loved her and I could have stood there for another two hours but

:07:35.:07:39.

everything that could have been said. There had been messages of

:07:39.:07:42.

condolence and support from across the country, thousands had offered

:07:42.:07:47.

sympathy for the loss of a fine lady in such tragic circumstances.

:07:47.:07:51.

A 37 year-old man and two boys remain on police bail in connection

:07:51.:07:59.

with the incident. A sad story. Next, teenage gangster

:07:59.:08:03.

Moses Matthias hoped he had escaped justice by fleeing the country

:08:03.:08:07.

after shooting dead an arrival, but tonight he is beginning a life

:08:07.:08:09.

sentence for killing Guiseppe Gregory.

:08:09.:08:13.

Guiseppe Gregory was 16 when he was shot through the head in a car in

:08:13.:08:17.

Greater Manchester. Two of his killers were jailed last year and

:08:17.:08:23.

now the third is behind bars after spending two years on the run.

:08:23.:08:28.

Moses Matthias was just 15 when he became a killer. He typified his

:08:28.:08:33.

sadly some of the people who get seduced into this type of violence.

:08:33.:08:37.

His victim, Guiseppe Gregory, was shot dead in a car outside his pub

:08:37.:08:46.

in Stretford in 2009. Moses allied himself to a gang in Manchester. In

:08:46.:08:51.

2007 aged just 14 he was shot in the leg during an into gang dispute.

:08:51.:08:58.

The following year another boy was shot dead. In April 2009 a rival

:08:58.:09:02.

gang member was released without charge. That man was at the Robin

:09:02.:09:08.

Hood pub on May 10th. Moses Matthias and two others shot at a

:09:08.:09:12.

car. Guiseppe Gregory was in the back seat and one of the bullets

:09:12.:09:18.

killed him. Last year two men were convicted of the killing, but Moses

:09:18.:09:23.

Matthias had fled overseas. The police put up giant posters of the

:09:23.:09:28.

fugitive teenager who was eventually tracked down to Holland.

:09:28.:09:32.

He admitted murder, but he said it had nothing to do with into gang

:09:32.:09:37.

rivalry and had not been planned. The judge rejected his version of

:09:38.:09:42.

events and ordered he be detained for a minimum of 18 years.

:09:42.:09:46.

Afterwards, a police officer read a statement on behalf of Guiseppe

:09:46.:09:50.

Gregory's mother Samantha. In this week leading up to Christmas I

:09:50.:09:55.

would like to ask people to take a single moment to think about all

:09:55.:09:59.

the families up and down this country who have lost a child

:09:59.:10:04.

through violent crime. Now, at last, all of Guiseppe Gregory's killers

:10:04.:10:12.

are behind bars. In a venue is, Cumbria's police

:10:12.:10:22.
:10:22.:10:23.

county as it aims to save more than 20 million. Barrow will be

:10:23.:10:27.

replaced. Officers will move to buildings nearby it or share with

:10:27.:10:33.

the fire service. The authority says it will save 119,000 in

:10:33.:10:36.

running costs and will raise 2.8 million.

:10:37.:10:42.

Police investigating the case of a baby boy found dead in a stream in

:10:42.:10:45.

Lancashire have we appealed for information. The boy was discovered

:10:45.:10:52.

in Kirkham in October. Despite interviewing 1000 people officers

:10:52.:10:56.

have not managed to trace his mother, but they are not giving up.

:10:57.:11:01.

It has been a huge investigation. We are still conducting the

:11:01.:11:05.

investigation and we will not stop until we find out what has happened.

:11:05.:11:10.

I would imagine the mother will be feeling very sad, very emotional,

:11:11.:11:15.

in the run-up to Christmas. This would have been her little baby's

:11:15.:11:20.

first Christmas. Robert land from Darwin is to appeal for a third

:11:20.:11:23.

time against his conviction for murdering his wife Evelyn 12 years

:11:23.:11:29.

ago. He lost his second appeal last week and his lawyers have confirmed

:11:29.:11:33.

they will argue the trial was not balanced and he did not get a fair

:11:33.:11:37.

chance to defend himself. The Isle of Man Post Office has

:11:37.:11:41.

said that Christmas parcels are taking longer than usual to arrive.

:11:41.:11:45.

The company said it is due to adverse weather conditions and

:11:45.:11:50.

limited ferry crossings. Bass says staff are working hard to sort and

:11:50.:11:54.

deliver all parcels as soon as they reach the island.

:11:54.:11:59.

We are hearing there is a large fire in Lancashire. 15 fire engines

:11:59.:12:07.

had been called to the blaze in Leyland. Annabel will have more on

:12:07.:12:10.

that in our late bulletin after the 10 o'clock News.

:12:10.:12:18.

Still to come: Hitting rock bottom, Blackburn's Steve keen stands on

:12:18.:12:22.

the brink after defeat in last night's Derby.

:12:22.:12:26.

Join me for a Christmas dinner with a difference. The food that would

:12:26.:12:36.
:12:36.:12:39.

have gone to landfill is now going Now to the latest of this week's

:12:39.:12:42.

series of special reports on the men and women from this region

:12:42.:12:45.

serving at Camp Bastion. We've already seen and heard from some of

:12:45.:12:48.

those putting their lives on the line. Tonight Naomi Cornwell has

:12:48.:12:51.

the story of the NHS staff who've travelled to Helmand to treat the

:12:52.:12:54.

injured in the busiest trauma hospital in the world. As it's a

:12:55.:13:04.

military hospital, we've been asked not to show the patients there.

:13:04.:13:10.

It could be a ward at any hospital in the north-west, but this is

:13:10.:13:14.

Helmand Afghanistan. The is is totally different to my day job

:13:14.:13:19.

back home and this is the biggest trauma centre in the world. You do

:13:19.:13:23.

not see the things at home that you see here. I have learned it

:13:23.:13:26.

completely new things. It is not just British and American forces

:13:26.:13:35.

they get help here, the hospital also help injured insurgents and

:13:35.:13:39.

civilians. 50 members of the Territorial arm -- territorial unit

:13:39.:13:44.

were released from their jobs while the Ministry of Defence pay their

:13:45.:13:50.

salaries. They are a very special group of people. We work in this

:13:51.:13:56.

high tempo and then the NHS come back to a local area or knee you

:13:56.:13:59.

and reaps the benefit of this experience. They are dealing with

:13:59.:14:04.

the most extreme injuries. Amputees, gunshot wounds, what you would

:14:04.:14:09.

expect in a wars loomed. Also the children. That is something we

:14:09.:14:14.

travel -- struggle with. Children have extremely severe injuries.

:14:14.:14:18.

have just heard that two patients are being brought in by helicopter

:14:18.:14:25.

with serious injuries. We have had pipe that we -- we have had five

:14:25.:14:29.

patients in, for have been extremely unwell and one has been

:14:29.:14:34.

less serious. Later that day, the Tannoy is broadcast a message, one

:14:34.:14:42.

that everybody here dreads. It is the order to cut off all

:14:42.:14:45.

communication with the outside world. It means that somebody has

:14:45.:14:50.

been critically injured or killed and the hospital does not want the

:14:50.:14:58.

news to leak out until it has been made contact with the family. Most

:14:58.:15:03.

of those that are rife here do survive. It is the highest success

:15:03.:15:06.

rate in the history of warfare. They have learnt here that giving

:15:06.:15:11.

patients extra red blood cells and clotting products increases their

:15:11.:15:16.

chances of survival. We have taken a lot of what we have learnt with

:15:16.:15:21.

regard to blood products into a UK practice. Back home, the fallen I-

:15:21.:15:31.

listed at the National Memorial arboretum. Inspiring the field

:15:31.:15:36.

hospital's motto, keep the names off the wall. One of my nurses came

:15:36.:15:40.

up to me and said that today we read a name off the wall and that

:15:40.:15:45.

is what keeps us determined to do our best for any casualty. The cost

:15:45.:15:50.

of this war for civilians and military has been incredibly high.

:15:50.:15:53.

Thanks to medical advances he and the skills they bring back, the

:15:53.:15:58.

work of these medics is saving and improving lives in Afghanistan and

:15:58.:16:02.

here at home. Tomorrow we meet are the unsung heroes, supplying and

:16:03.:16:08.

supporting the troops on the front line.

:16:08.:16:11.

You can see more from Camp Bastion tomorrow and all of Naomi's reports

:16:11.:16:21.
:16:21.:16:24.

from Afghanistan are also going on our Facebook page. It is definitely

:16:24.:16:29.

worth a look back because it is an unusual look back, beyond what we

:16:29.:16:32.

usually see from the soldiers. It is interesting the. They made

:16:32.:16:35.

about bringing the skills back to this country.

:16:35.:16:39.

Back to our top story now - and the rest of the day's sport. Tony's at

:16:39.:16:42.

the DW stadium in Wigan, where Liverpool, with or without Luis

:16:42.:16:46.

Suarez, are the visitors. And Tony it's also a busy night for many of

:16:46.:16:54.

our teams. Any idea of soirees might play? Not as yet, it is going

:16:54.:17:03.

to be another nerve-jangling episode. Last night we saw

:17:03.:17:05.

Blackburn Rovers boss Steve Kean and Bolton manager Owen Coyle

:17:05.:17:09.

isolated on the touchline at Ewood Park as they fought for their own

:17:09.:17:12.

survival. More on that in a moment. Tonight I'm at struggling Wigan as

:17:12.:17:15.

they fight for their lives and visitors Liverpool begin the fight

:17:15.:17:17.

to clear the name of Luis Suarez while contemplating losing the

:17:17.:17:23.

Uruguayan for eight crucial games. Liverpool players have said they

:17:23.:17:30.

are shocked and angered that he is guilty of racial abuse. So how will

:17:30.:17:34.

they cope without him? With me from the fanzine Well Red is Gareth

:17:34.:17:44.
:17:44.:17:44.

Roberts. He should play tonight. He is one of the best players. He

:17:44.:17:49.

should answer the FA by putting the ball in the back of the net. If he

:17:49.:17:56.

is banned, who steps up? Whoever Kenny Dalglish wants to play. We

:17:56.:18:02.

all trust Kenny in the months he has been at the club. My personal

:18:03.:18:07.

opinion is Craig Bellamy can step in and do the job. You say you

:18:07.:18:11.

trust Kenny but Kenny does not seem to trust Andy Carroll and you do

:18:11.:18:18.

not either? Like-for-like player, Craig Bellamy is the man on form.

:18:18.:18:21.

Free transfer at a cost us that nothing and he's been a man of the

:18:21.:18:25.

match on Sunday. He has played well for us. Hopefully it will not come

:18:25.:18:31.

to that. How damaging we did before the season to lose release whereas?

:18:31.:18:36.

It would be famous for it. He is a top-class player. The Premiership

:18:36.:18:40.

will miss him. What about the chances of going into the transfer

:18:41.:18:47.

market and trying to replace them? Is there any money to be spent?

:18:47.:18:51.

Regardless, weather earlier we soirees his band, we do still need

:18:51.:19:00.

a new forward. I expecting an appeal? I'm expecting it to reduce

:19:00.:19:09.

it the banner took a no matches. Back to last night's drama now. And

:19:09.:19:12.

after Blackburn lost 2-1 to fellow strugglers Bolton Wanderers to go

:19:12.:19:15.

bottom of the Premier League, the future of manager Steve Kean is

:19:15.:19:25.
:19:25.:19:25.

looking more insecure than ever. The defeat was Rovers' 11th of the

:19:25.:19:28.

season and means they're going to be bottom over a decidely unhappy

:19:28.:19:30.

Christmas at Ewood Park. Ian Haslam reports.

:19:30.:19:33.

Blackburn fans have been protesting against Manager Steve Kean for most

:19:33.:19:36.

of the season. Last night's defeat took the animosity to a new level.

:19:36.:19:43.

He must go. He is completely out of his death for -- depth. In looks a

:19:43.:19:48.

we will be relegated. Chants of, "Kean out!" had been

:19:48.:19:52.

ringing out from the home support since before kick off, and got they

:19:52.:19:54.

louder following Mark Davies' crucial early goal for Bolton.

:19:54.:19:57.

Worse was to come for Rovers on the half hour, as Nigel Reo Coker

:19:57.:20:00.

brilliantly doubled Wanderers' lead, to the relief of his Manager Owen

:20:00.:20:03.

Coyle. Yakubu's goal in a much improved second half performance

:20:03.:20:05.

was to prove a consolation While there's some cause for

:20:05.:20:08.

optimism at Bolton, Blackburn's Premier League future, and that of

:20:08.:20:10.

Steve Kean, is tonight looking increasingly uncertain. And you get

:20:10.:20:12.

out of it by sticking together. The mood inside the camp is

:20:12.:20:18.

disappointed when we do not win. terms of Steve Kean as a manager, I

:20:19.:20:23.

think given the opportunity he will prove he is tough. I hope he has

:20:23.:20:28.

given the time to do that. Blackburn bottom of the table at

:20:28.:20:32.

Christmas and only one team in the history of the Premier League has

:20:32.:20:35.

been able to escape relegation having been in that position on

:20:35.:20:41.

Christmas Day. For Bolton Wanderers fans, Christmas has come ever an --

:20:41.:20:48.

early. Best Christmas present ever. We were the best team. While there

:20:48.:20:52.

is some cause for optimism at Bolton, Blackburn's Premiership

:20:52.:20:59.

future and that of Steve Kean is looking increasingly uncertain.

:20:59.:21:02.

It's a busy night at the top of the Premier League. Manchester City

:21:02.:21:08.

will be renewing their race with Manchester United for the title.

:21:09.:21:11.

Holders United are away at Fulham while City will hope to maintain

:21:12.:21:15.

their lead over the Reds with three points at home to Stoke. And

:21:15.:21:17.

following a training ground bust-up involving temperamental Italian

:21:17.:21:19.

Mario Balotelli, manager Roberto Mancini says he's hoping for a

:21:19.:21:26.

little better behaviour from the striker. If he wants to play better

football and have a good private life then he should have good

:21:29.:21:35.

behaviour always, not some times, or one week here, today is not. I

:21:35.:21:44.

think every top player has a good private life and good behaviour,

:21:44.:21:49.

for think this is the way for him. As I said, busy Premier League

:21:49.:21:52.

night tonight, you can hear full match commentary of this game,

:21:52.:21:55.

Wigan v Liverpool on BBC Radio Merseyside from 8:00pm with updates

:21:55.:21:58.

of Everton v Swansea. On BBC Radio Manchester there's full commentary

:21:58.:22:05.

of City v Stoke and updates from United's trip to Fulham.

:22:05.:22:09.

A huge night in the Premier League, as was last night, I have got the

:22:09.:22:13.

best job in Britain! Don't you just love it, the ins and outs and the

:22:13.:22:17.

stories developing, another episode of the soap opera will unfold

:22:17.:22:21.

behind me. You did not even mention Carlos

:22:22.:22:25.

Tevez! Our food bills continue to go up.

:22:25.:22:28.

And yet we're still wasting thousands of tonnes of good food

:22:28.:22:30.

every year. Sell-by dates and an obsession for pristine packaging

:22:30.:22:34.

mean that food which is perfectly fine to eat ends up going to

:22:34.:22:37.

landfill. But now a Manchester-based charity

:22:37.:22:40.

is diverting huge quantities of would-be waste to those who need it

:22:40.:22:42.

most this Christmas. Here's our Environment Correspondent Colin

:22:42.:22:47.

Sykes. A lorry load of food arrives at

:22:47.:22:55.

Manchester's main fruit and veg market. We have got some celery

:22:55.:23:00.

that has been donated for the Christmas appeal. We have also got

:23:00.:23:05.

some cheese and sausages. This food's been donated by farmers for

:23:05.:23:10.

Christmas It'll provide 3,000 Christmas dinners. There is nothing

:23:10.:23:16.

wrong with it. It is perfectly edible food. It is just surplus

:23:16.:23:19.

stock. It cannot be got rid of by the sell-by date.

:23:19.:23:22.

Volunteers will sort the food into smaller packs to give to charities

:23:22.:23:25.

that don't always get a great press, like centres for people with

:23:25.:23:31.

addiction problems and the homeless. About five years ago I got made

:23:31.:23:35.

homeless because I was in a private accommodation and the landlord sold

:23:35.:23:39.

the property and I could not find somewhere else. It was a charity

:23:39.:23:42.

like this that helped me get back on my feet so why like giving

:23:42.:23:45.

something back. The fresh food will be mixed with

:23:45.:23:48.

supplies donated by supermarkets, some of it because the packaging is

:23:48.:23:53.

damaged or the food is close to its sell-by date.

:23:53.:23:59.

A quarter of food waste is still fit for human consumption but this

:23:59.:24:05.

has been donated specially for Christmas. A we have got mince pies

:24:05.:24:09.

and we have got Christmas Log and it is just to put a smile on

:24:09.:24:13.

people's space who are having a bit of a hard time.

:24:13.:24:16.

Over the next couple of days dozens of charities will receive the

:24:16.:24:25.

necessary ingredients for a decent Christmas Day dinner.

:24:25.:24:30.

Christmas Day dinner. Now let us take a look at the

:24:30.:24:37.

weather. It is getting warmer. It is mild.

:24:37.:24:39.

Tomorrow we will be almost the same. Unfortunately the weather will be

:24:39.:24:45.

the same as well. Today we started off with a lot of drizzly rain. The

:24:45.:24:49.

radar did not pick it up at as you went through the day the rain left

:24:49.:24:52.

most of us and the cloud would not budge. It has been grey virtually

:24:52.:24:56.

all the way through. But temperatures went up to 11 degrees.

:24:56.:25:00.

That makes the difference. Through this evening and overnight it will

:25:00.:25:05.

not be that different. You can see cloud cover all over. We will

:25:05.:25:11.

continue to have drizzly rain and that could be persistent every now

:25:11.:25:16.

and then. It is not a pretty picture. The saving grace has to be

:25:16.:25:19.

the temperatures. In the more suddenly part of the region you

:25:19.:25:25.

might get a break-in the clouds but for most of us temperatures will

:25:25.:25:31.

stay as high as nine or even into double figures. Tomorrow is the

:25:31.:25:37.

shortest day so the sun comes up so very late, it won't come up until

:25:37.:25:41.

about 8:23am. Cloud cover will always be around and all that

:25:41.:25:46.

drizzly rain will be around as well. It will be at its worst on the

:25:46.:25:50.

highest level. I would not be surprised if anywhere saw a little

:25:50.:25:55.

bit drifting by it and landing on your windscreen. It is very similar

:25:55.:25:59.

to today. You will notice that towards the tail-end of the day

:25:59.:26:04.

there maybe a few breaks in the cloud. It will not last for

:26:04.:26:11.

anything more than about 20 minutes or so. The sun goes down at 3:51pm.

:26:11.:26:15.

After that you can add a minute on to the day at each end. That will

:26:15.:26:20.

start to make a difference as we head towards January. Not a great

:26:20.:26:24.

one. Tomorrow night temperatures are really good once again but we

:26:24.:26:30.

have a big band of rain that will work its way in. It moves into the

:26:30.:26:33.

Isle of Man and then pushes everywhere as the night goes on.

:26:33.:26:37.

First thing on Friday this is the weather front you will have. You

:26:37.:26:41.

can see a change in the wind direction. It will be north-

:26:41.:26:45.

westerly and cool things off a bit. When you get up on Saturday it

:26:45.:26:49.

could field barely cool out and about. It will not last for long

:26:49.:26:53.

and be the only night for the next couple of days that feels a bit

:26:53.:26:56.

nippy. We will return to the south westerlies and the temperatures

:26:56.:27:00.

will go up again. You know how annoying it is when

:27:00.:27:06.

you lose something. Rings specifically!

:27:06.:27:13.

What about when you lose something of sentimental value? Mersey Tunnel

:27:13.:27:16.

staff are hoping to re-unite a motorist with their wedding ring. A

:27:16.:27:18.

sharp-eyed toll officer at the Queensway tunnel spotted this ring

:27:18.:27:22.

in the coin reject slot of one of the automatic toll payment machines

:27:22.:27:24.

at Birkenhead. It's believed to have slipped from the owner's

:27:24.:27:30.

finger as they paid to drive through to Liverppool. The ring has

:27:30.:27:33.

an inscription that partly reads, "..until I die." and the name of a

:27:33.:27:38.
