One man and three youths are still being questioned over the Boxing

Day murder of a student in Salford. It's understood that moments before

Anuj Bidve's killer pulled the trigger, he had calmly asked the

student for the time. Police are investigating a possible racial

motive. His family say he was the first

person you turn to when you needed help. Today, some came with flowers

to express their shock at such a senseless unprovoked attack. Was

the motive racial? A few of them had been asked the time. One of

them told this by the time. The rest of the students, they said to

me, they turned around and Anuj was on the floor. Racial motives is one

line of inquiry. Police have closed down five houses whilst forensic

examinations are carried out. Many locals are scared. I am not happy.

There has been so many racial attacks in the past. It is shocking.

His it is a random unprovoked attack. If it can happen for no

reason, who else can it happen to? Anuj had been enjoying a Christmas

night out with friends and had been looking forward to visiting the

area. Today the council said this is an murder that has brought shame

on Salford. We have had our crime, but nothing like this. Someone just

shot someone for no reason. Anuj Bidve's family are expected to fly

into the country tomorrow. They want to take Anuj's body home as

soon as possible. Lancaster University, where Anuj Bidve was

studying, will meet some of the repatriation cost.

Tributes have been paid to an aid worker from Rochdale who was killed

whilst on holiday in Sri Lanka. Kuram Zaman was attacked in

Tangalle on Christmas Day. He was on leave from his work for the

International Committee of the Red Cross in Gaza.

A man has died after being stabbed in the back at a Rochdale nightclub

early on Christmas Day. John Lee Barrett from Harpurhey was at a

private party at Sinclair's Bar. He died yesterday in hospital.

Injured soldiers are being helped on the road to recovery by student

engineers from Lancashire. Dozens of apprentices took part in a

challenge run by BAe Systems and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in

Birmingham to come up with gadgets to help heal physical and mental

scars. Potentially, if somebody had the ability to move their arms,

they could manage to things like shaving, washing their face and

aspects of their personal care. It may seem that the small thing to

you and I, but for someone who has had so much taken away from them,

it is a huge benefit. Luis Suarez will miss Liverpool's

home match against Newcastle on Friday after admitting making an

offensive gesture to Fulham fans earlier this month. He was given a

one match ban and fined �20,000. The Uruguayan striker already has

the prospect of an eight-match ban hanging over him after being found

guilty of racially abusing Manchester United's Patrice Evra.

Football fans from the red and blue halves of Liverpool have joined

forces to launch plans for a new regeneration project based on

soccer. It's called The Football Quarter and the idea is to use the

Liverpool and Everton brands to bring in investment and jobs.

In football history, north Liverpool is rich. In economic

terms it is poor, very poor. It has the 6th highest unemployment in the

country and in some of the areas, life expectancy is 15 years less

than some of the leafy suburbs down south. Today at Liverpool Museum

and the Football Quarter was launched, using the football

clubs's international appeal. clubs will be anchors for

regeneration in the area. If the area is nicer to walk around and

there is more to do on none match days, more people will come and

spend their money. Among see practical ideas put forward there

are plans for an outside exhibition area and better transport to bring

visitors on the city centre. The big question is, who is going to

pay for all of this? Liverpool council is backing the idea and the

organisers say it is important to get land deals done. If that

happens then private investors will be keen. Once the land deal is put

together, developers will want to get a piece of the action. They

have not put a figure on how much money they will need. The clubs are

studying plans which don't include a ground share.

He is never far from controversy, accidentally setting fire to his

flat, bus-stops and -- bust ups and arguing with his manager.
