Good evening from North West Tonight. Our top story: A male

nurse at Stepping Hill Hospital he is arrested on suspicion of

poisoning a patient and tampering with medical records. Police

revealed and 82-year-old man died on New Year's Eve after being given

contaminated saline their last summer. He is the 4th victim.

Anguish for the parents of an Indian student shot in Salford.

They held talks at Westminster before taking his body home.

He was very straightforward, very disciplined, very soft-spoken. He

was very friendly. He was a very good son it to me. A man is jailed

for 30 years for a brutal killing her behind this door. Would this

have victims still be alive if he had not been a loan shark?

Mayhem and the miracle goal. The high winds are being blamed for

both. Bringing new meaning to determine

mood music. The feelings of the city of Manchester turned into a

symphony. A male nurse is tonight being

questioned by detectives over the suspected poisoning her of a

patient at Stepping Hill Hospital. He was arrested after staff told

police they believed a medical records had been tampered with. All

this as a major investigation continues into the deliberate

contamination of saline drips at the hospital. Detectives revealed a

4th patient is believed to have been poisoned -- to be poisoned in

June. Our reporter is at the hospital. Two developments today.

Start with the arrest. Once again tonight, this hospital

finds itself at the centre of media attention. A male nurse has been

arrested. It came after staff here are alerted police and said they

believed some records had been tampered with. As a result, a

patient received the wrong medication. This new inquiry is

focusing on exactly what happened at Ward A3 earlier this week. That

is when staff told police medical records had been altered. As a

result, someone was given in appropriate medication. An arrest

was made today. The 36 Rob male nurse was arrested under section 23.

-- 36-year-old male. He administered poison. Among those

visiting the hospital there was surprise at the news. A I am

stunned. Really stunned. I have seen the security guards. I am not

scared. I feel reassured they are there. Stepping Hill became

embroiled in a major police investigation last summer when a

saline drips were contaminated. Nurse Rebecca Leighton was arrested

then released without charge. The inquiry, codenamed Operation

Roxburg, continued. Detectives who are investigating the cases of 20

patients who were poisoned by that saline. They include Tracey Arden,

Derek Weaver and Arnold Lancaster, who died last year. Today, police

revealed a fall has now died. 82- year-old Bill Dixon passed away

uneasy. -- a 4th. The hospital has been working closely with

detectives. Apparently, it is a result of heightened security that

the altered records were noticed. This is a search for the truth into

the set of circumstances reported on 3rd January specifically.

attention of two investigations. The first of those began last year

are into that tampering of a saline. The second began in just this week,

following those suspicions that records had been tampered with. The

investigations will eventually be linked.

Thank you. It is a journey that no parent wants to make. Today,

Subhash and Yogini Bidve arrived in the UK to collect their son's body

after he was shot in Salford 10 days ago. They paid an emotional

tribute to a Anuj Bidve, their friendly and good son, at

Westminster. They met Keith Baz to discuss the investigation. Tomorrow,

they will visit Ordsall, the scene of his death. Residents there are

meeting with the police. Residents have been arriving here

at the community centre for the meeting that is due to start in

about 30 minutes. It is an opportunity for residents to

discuss their concerns, their feelings and their shock 10 days

after that terrible event. I have spent the afternoon here in Ordsall.

People have spoken to me about the VAT they are concerned the area

will become synonymous with that the really shocking crime. They

also expressed sympathy for the parents of Anuj Bidve. 10 days ago,

this family could not have imagined they would be paying tribute to 23-

year-old Anuj Bidve who had the world at his feet. He was very

straightforward, very disciplined, very soft spoken. He was very

friendly. He was a very good son to me. Despite their grief, they

stressed Anuj Bidve had been happy here and the best tribute for him

would be for international students to continue studying in the UK. In

the community where he was shot, there is great sadness. Danielle

and a may have worked in the community cafe for three years and

never had any trouble. -- Amy. They are determined to honour him.

a strong community. People like living here. They like helping in

the community. I think the community spirit will still be here.

Mike moved to Ordsall 12 years ago. He is upset has suggested as this

is not a tolerant community. People are very friendly and welcoming.

That is to people from all over the world. This is Ordsall, opposite

the docks, and ships came in from all over the world, people came to

live here and stay. We have all sorts of people. People are very

welcoming and very helpful to people. It's a heavy police

presence remains in Ordsall tonight. We heard from Subhash and Yogini

Bidve at Westminster where they were meeting Keith Vaz. They are

expected to be in Ordsall tomorrow. What have a resident said?

Residents have been a very upset that this has happened in a

community that has worked hard to build a reputation. Many stressed

they were at that vigil that a place to remember Anuj Bidve and

they looked forward to the opportunity for his parents to come

here and for them to talk about how sorry they are about what happened.

I have to say, there are two or three people who would talk to us

on camera and a whole lot more say they have been grateful for the

police presence but they are concerned when all of this dies

down and the police disappear, there might be more trouble in the

area. Any deal will bring us an update

later. -- Nina. Martin Ithell was brutally

murdered. In court today, he was described as a loyal, kind,

generous man, always there to help others. He was also a loan shark.

When his killer Scott Davidson could not repay a debt which had

spiralled out of control he hatched a plan to kill him. His girlfriend

had been his assistant. Martin Ithell's family left court

still clearly distraught at the loss of a much-loved partner and

brother. A his life was tragically taken away and has left our family

with a boy. Martin Ithell was also a loan shark. His killer was

described as a man with ideas above his station, a man who wanted to

borrow his way to happiness. Rachel Horton was his girlfriend and

accomplice. They shared a house here. This was where they had lured

Martin Ithell to his death. He had lent �16,000 for two Davidson but

within four month, it had spiralled to �26,000. Martin Ithell arrived

here thinking he was going to get his money. Within moments, he lay

dying on the floor in the hall, shot through the heart and stabs

nine times in the neck. This was the murder weapon. As he lay dying,

the pair cleaned walls which the judge said must have resembled the

scene of a horror film. Hours later, David Sinnott drove the body to the

police station. Outside court, -- Davidson, outside court there was

this statement. He was not a loan Davidson received a life sentence

for murder. He will not be considered for parole for 30 years.

Rachel Horton pleaded guilty to manslaughter. She will serve three

years in a young offenders' institution.

Three men have been jailed for a total of 21 years for their part in

a burglary which saw one of their accomplices stabbed to death.

Homeowner Peter Flanagan acted in self-defence when he fatally

stabbed John Bennell after the gang broke into his home in Salford.

Wesley Gibbons, Martin Jamieson and Christopher Troy were today jailed

for eight, seven and six years respectively for aggravated

burglary. Detectives investigating an

attempted bank robbery where a letter was handed to the cashier

demanding �50 notes. When the offender got to the counter at

Lloyds TSB, he brandished the note, requesting cash and said he was

armed. He ran away empty handed. The Government has agreed to meet

most of the costs of policing the summer riots in Manchester. 85% of

the two forces' operational costs have been met as well as all claims

made under the Riots Act. Manchester will receive �9 million

from the Home Office, Merseyside will get �2.5 million. At the

number of cases of whooping cough more than doubled last year

compared to 2010. The Health Protection Agency recorded 107

cases. It says vaccination remains the best way of controlling the

disease. Some of the 100 or so reptiles

stolen from a pet shop in Stockport on Monday have been returned.

Thieves dumped the animals, including this albino royal python,

a caiman, a leopard gecko and some bearded dragons, outside Pet

Warehouse in bags and boxes. Others, including birds belonging to

customers, are still missing. Would not have been happy to open a

bag! As you know, the strong winds have been causing disruption. That

is in Cumbria. 1,000 homes across the north-west are without power.

Engineers say they have had to deal with 150 electrical faults caused

by the weather. Road and rail travel has been delayed. Trees and

power lines were brought down. Many The winds have left a trail of

destruction around the region. This couple had a lucky escape when a

tree fell on their car. They escaped with minor injuries. Up on

these hills, the Met Office have recorded gusts of 82 mph. The

electricity company says that it has dealt with more than 100 balls.

Tonight, 1,000 homes are without electricity. Around 40 of those of

been in the Windermere area. Ind Warrington, debris fruit from the

special series Stuart Pollitt's been seeing how sports scientists

help Olympic hopefuls at the Stockport Metro club get their

minds and bodies in shape. That is a brilliant swim from Tim Goddard!

Out of the water are the people who help create those champions. People

like physios Lee, a psychologist Simon and performance analysis to

bend. This morning, Ben is working with Michael on his terms. Some

sessions, I might be uncomfortable for two years -- two hours. With

Michael, it is one of the best that we have. There's always room for

improvement. I have seen him head- to-head with the best in the road -

- in the world. He knows that, because using his database, it can

compare performance with such swimmers as Michael Phelps. From

the first turn, after 50 metres, Michael is keeping up with Michael

Phelps. On the third term, he is dropping another 0.4 of the second.

You are going to struggle to pick that up. The most important thing

is to stay fit enough to be able to compete. What we are trying to set

up is a series of exercises for Michael which works on areas which

are potentially weak, so we look at areas where swimmers have problems

traditionally, such as these shoulders. After he has got his

body into shape, it is time to see if Michael's wind is in the right

place. It is think about it, if you take eight people in that final,

and they are all suffering the same times, the psychology can be

different. If you look at just 10 years ago, swimmers would not

contemplate the level of support that we have now. If you look at

that, there is no reason why we can't compete and be phenomenally

successful in London 2012. Delivering that success is what

drives the scientists as much as the swimmers. Stewart says they
