Good evening. A man has been arrested for attempted murder after

shots were fired in Salford last night. Police were called to

Coronation Street at 6pm last night to reports of guns shots. Damaged

was caused to cars and police are still searching the scene. A

34`year`old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is

being questioned by police. A 62`year`old man from Manchester has

died after becoming ill whilst diving off the Isle of Man.

Emergency services, including an RAF Sea King helicopter and lifeboat,

attended the incident at Port St Mary Harbour. Police say Eric

Warburton, who was from Whitefield, became ill after surfacing near to

the Sugarloaf Rocks. An investigation's been launched after

it's thought a woman's body could have been at a house in Oldham for

up to a year. Police were called to a house on South Hill Street and

found the body of a 96`year`old woman. A man's been arrested on

suspicion of failure to notify a death. Four of the five monkeys

stolen from Blackpool Zoo have been found safe and well in Yorkshire.

Two female cotton`top tamarins, which are a critically endangered

species, and two male tamarins are now back at the zoo. The baby

cotton`top tamarin which was also stolen has not been found. The

monkeys were recovered from an address in Brighouse late last

night. When I got to the police station, were in some small metal

cages, they looked in good conditions. They were quite scared.

One of the babies was cuddling their father. The others were whingeing.

You could see they were scared and in a different environment to what

they were used to. Firefighters across the region are on strike

again this evening in a long`running dispute over pensions. Members of

the FBU walked out for 12 hours at 2pm this afternoon. The Government

says this weekend's industrial action is unnecessary and damaging.

round of protests, and still no nearer a resolution. The change in

the terms and conditions means it will be very likely we will not

receive a full pension. The government wants to raise the age

firefighters can retire from 55 to 60, and increase pension

contributions. You've got to be fit for purpose, from the age of 50

you're not. 80% of firefighters will not make it to the pensionable age

with the standards the government are setting for fitness. The union

says without a revised scheme they will be forced to take action again.

Is the public prepared to have 60`year`olds kicking doors down and

rescuing them from burning buildings? You possibly have to go

eight or nine flights of stairs and fight a fire, it is unrealistic. The

government says the deal on the table is generous. Under the current

proposal is a firefighter earning ?29,000 can retire aged 60 on a

pension of ?19,000 per year, ` rising to 26,000 with the state

pension. The government say they are still looking to find a solution.

There is a crucial goal right now. Manchester City are leading 3`1

against Everton. It was the final day of the Championship season.

Blackburn Rovers beat Wigan 4`3 at Ewood Park. Wigan finish in fifth

place and will play QPR in playoffs, with the first leg of the semifinal

at the DW on Friday night. Blackpool ended a disappointing season with a

3`0 home defeat against Charlton. Bolton drew 2`2 with Birmingham and

Burnley, already promoted drew 2`2 at Reading. Tranmere Rovers' 2`1

defeat at home to Bradford sees them relegated from League One. Crewe

survived and beat Preston 2`0, and Oldham drew 1`1 with Notts County.

Promoted Rochdale finish third after a 2`1 defeat. In Rugby Union's

Premiership this afternoon, Sale lost at home to Leicester by 42

points to 22. Now the weather. We started off the bank holiday weekend

reasonably well but it is changing now, with temperatures changing,

there will be an increase in cloud cover overnight, and across parts of

Lancashire it will start to produce some patchy rain. It will not be as

cold as last night, there is no worry about frost. Minimum

temperature of eight or nine Celsius. Cloudy or slightly damp

start on Sunday. Rain will be patchy but working eastwards. There will be

a shower likely across greater Manchester and for a Merseyside as

well. Daytime temperature of 14 Celsius. Bank holiday Monday, if you

Good evening. It was a cold, even frosty start to the Bank Holiday

weekend but for most of us day one of three has been dry. We are going

to see changes, the first of those changes spilling across Scotland and

Northern Ireland as outbreaks of rain drifting through the night.

Getting into parts of northern England as well. With the cloud and

rain it will not be as cold as last night, temperatures staying in

double figures in many cities. In the south, clear skies once more.

Like last night, it is going to be cold. Parts of the countryside will

be down to zero, maybe -1, as we start Sunday. A chilly start.
