A woman from Stockport jailed for 20 years in Iran after criticising

the regime on Facebook is trying to appeal against her sentence.

Roya Nobakht was arrested in Iran when she flew there to visit

She was accused of threatening Iran's national

security, but her devastated husband says she's an ordinary housewife.

Roya's friends and family from day one said she was not a spy.

She is not a political activist. She is a housewife and a student. She is

She wrote negative comments on Facebook.

Most people would think it is terrible that someone could end up

in prison for 20 years with making rude comments about the government

on Facebook. She then took an internal flight

to Shiraz to see family. When she landed, she was arrested

and held in this prison. The British embassy there was

attacked in 2011, Diplomatic relations are very poor.

have representation there. The Foreign Office is making strong

representation behind the scenes. Roya's family today told us they

will be appealing the sentence. A Foreign Office spokesman told us

Hello. Most of us have enjoyed at least one day of lovely weather this
