Rail passengers on Merseyside are facing travel disruption - | :00:10. | :00:12.
after 200 tonnes of rubble fell onto the tracks near | :00:13. | :00:14.
A track-side wall collapsed last night - and there'll be no | :00:15. | :00:21.
Thankfully, there were no trains travelling on these | :00:22. | :00:30.
Part of a retaining wall in the cutting collapsed. | :00:31. | :00:35.
Above the cutting is privately owned land, where Network Rail say | :00:36. | :00:39.
containers holding tonnes of material have been stacked. | :00:40. | :00:42.
These need to be moved before the area can be made safe. | :00:43. | :00:46.
The ground on top of the wall where the wall collapsed | :00:47. | :00:51.
So we've got to take two or three days to make that safe before we can | :00:52. | :01:01.
even go down onto the tracks to remove the rubble | :01:02. | :01:03.
Virgin Trains passengers to London are being bussed to Runcorn, | :01:04. | :01:06.
where they can pick up the London bound service. | :01:07. | :01:08.
Passengers coming into Liverpool from the East are being advised | :01:09. | :01:11.
to change at Hunts Cross, or Liverpool Parkway South | :01:12. | :01:13.
But undoubtedly there is considerable disruption | :01:14. | :01:16.
Not affected this morning, because we were in Liverpool | :01:17. | :01:25.
But we're trying to get back now to London and not having much luck. | :01:26. | :01:29.
I've spent, I think in the last 24 hours, about six, seven hours | :01:30. | :01:33.
So it's been quite horrific for me, to be honest. | :01:34. | :01:36.
Obviously on Twitter and stuff, the tweets and that. | :01:37. | :01:39.
But we didn't realise the scale of it. | :01:40. | :01:41.
Obviously, it's pretty empty in here. | :01:42. | :01:43.
At the moment it's not known when trains will be able to travel | :01:44. | :01:46.
A violent paedophile who hid a girl he was abusing in a hole behind | :01:47. | :01:57.
the fridge in his kitchen has been jailed for 27 years. | :01:58. | :02:01.
Michael Dunn raped and abused four girls in different | :02:02. | :02:03.
The judge described Michael Dunn is a devious, manipulative | :02:04. | :02:12.
and controlling man with a strong urge to dominate. | :02:13. | :02:14.
He persistently raped and was violent to two women | :02:15. | :02:16.
Today, he was jailed for 27 years for those crimes, | :02:17. | :02:21.
and the rape and sexual assault of two other children. | :02:22. | :02:26.
One of the victims was just 14 when Dunn began to groom her at his | :02:27. | :02:30.
He offered her an escape from a sexually abusive home life, | :02:31. | :02:36.
but then he too began to rape and control her. | :02:37. | :02:40.
When the police came looking for her, she would hide in this hole | :02:41. | :02:43.
created by the Dunn at his house, covered by plasterboard and guarded | :02:44. | :02:46.
I would applaud the victims and witnesses, due to | :02:47. | :02:52.
the strength and courage that they have displayed. | :02:53. | :02:55.
And equally, I would like to add that eventually, their voices | :02:56. | :02:58.
were heard and more importantly, they were all believed as well. | :02:59. | :03:02.
At his trial in January, Dunn, now 58, was also found guilty | :03:03. | :03:05.
of the rape of a ten or 11-year-old girl in the late 70s in Manchester. | :03:06. | :03:09.
And the sexual abuse of another 14-year-old girl in 1993. | :03:10. | :03:14.
Now, that abuse was reported to Greater Manchester Police, | :03:15. | :03:17.
but they failed to take any further action. | :03:18. | :03:20.
They are now being investigated by the Independent Police | :03:21. | :03:23.
Passing sentence, the judge said that Dunn posed | :03:24. | :03:28.
Nearly 500 animals have died in four years at the South Lakes Safari Zoo | :03:29. | :03:38.
A council report shows that - between December 2013 | :03:39. | :03:43.
and last September - 486 animals died. | :03:44. | :03:47.
Barrow Council will consider whether to grant the site | :03:48. | :03:50.
Keeper Sarah McClay was mauled to death by a tiger at the zoo in 2013. | :03:51. | :04:02.
The Chief Exective and two other senior officers at Bury Council | :04:03. | :04:06.
have been suspended following allegations they failed | :04:07. | :04:09.
to act swiftly enough after a Councillor was accused | :04:10. | :04:11.
of taking indecent images of children. | :04:12. | :04:12.
It's claimed they didn't properly follow child | :04:13. | :04:14.
Teachers who were seen chanting in a controversial video filmed | :04:15. | :04:20.
inside a Trafford school have been suspended. | :04:21. | :04:23.
A new interim headteacher has been appointed to help re-open | :04:24. | :04:26.
Bollin Primary School in Bowdon near Altrincham. | :04:27. | :04:30.
The rift between the head and staff and parents became so serious | :04:31. | :04:33.
the school was closed down on Monday. | :04:34. | :04:35.
The front gates were open, but the playgrounds were empty. | :04:36. | :04:42.
Today, parents of pupils at Bollin primary school were told to send | :04:43. | :04:47.
some of their children back to school tomorrow. | :04:48. | :04:51.
I don't think we can sort of dismissed the last few days | :04:52. | :04:54.
and the last few weeks as never having happened. | :04:55. | :04:56.
There's a lot that we need to take away and look out from that. | :04:57. | :04:59.
And the council will be looking at events that led up to that very | :05:00. | :05:03.
Trafford Council intervened on Monday after the relationship | :05:04. | :05:08.
between the headteacher, Michelle Brindle, and teachers | :05:09. | :05:11.
The council has now applied to the regional schools commissioner | :05:12. | :05:17.
to replace the governing body with an interim executive board. | :05:18. | :05:21.
The headteacher, Michelle Brindle, wasn't in school today. | :05:22. | :05:25.
And in an e-mail sent out to a number of parents, | :05:26. | :05:28.
the chair of governors confirmed an interim head will take over | :05:29. | :05:32.
and be in school tomorrow for its phase reopening. | :05:33. | :05:36.
There are petitions in support of and against the headteacher. | :05:37. | :05:41.
One parent today welcomed the new head, but criticised the timing. | :05:42. | :05:44.
If they had stepped in earlier, when dozens of parent complaints | :05:45. | :05:48.
hadn't been addressed, when the governing board | :05:49. | :05:51.
was basically falling apart, this wouldn't be happening. | :05:52. | :05:55.
On Friday, some teachers were caught celebrating what they felt had been | :05:56. | :06:01.
the headteacher's suspension or sacking that turned | :06:02. | :06:03.
Trafford Council have confirmed a number of teachers | :06:04. | :06:06.
I'm aware of that video, and it's now appropriate | :06:07. | :06:11.
that we investigate the content of it and whether there | :06:12. | :06:15.
are any actions that are necessary as a result of it. | :06:16. | :06:23.
Juliet Phillips has been following this story tonight. | :06:24. | :06:27.
Juliet, what's going to happen next for this school? | :06:28. | :06:33.
The school, which has been closed since Monday, is going to start a | :06:34. | :06:40.
phased reopening. Some pupils will be starting classes as soon as | :06:41. | :06:46.
tomorrow. That's ages seven until 11, key stage two. Then ages | :06:47. | :06:50.
children five until seven, will begin classes on Friday. Early years | :06:51. | :06:57.
children, ages three to five, began on Monday. | :06:58. | :06:58.
What's the parents' reaction been like today? | :06:59. | :07:04.
A mixed reaction as mentioned in the report. Some teachers have been | :07:05. | :07:10.
suspended following the release of the video we have just seen, which | :07:11. | :07:15.
allegedly shows a party happening on the school site. Some parents are | :07:16. | :07:18.
worried that those teachers that are suspended will be replaced by supply | :07:19. | :07:19.
teachers. The teachers have been under a huge | :07:20. | :07:22.
amount of stress over We're really concerned that we're | :07:23. | :07:25.
going to be going back to the school with temporary staff | :07:26. | :07:31.
and our teachers not there, because nobody's informing us yet | :07:32. | :07:33.
again what's happening. It's clear then the problems | :07:34. | :07:37.
at this school aren't This week, we're on a Brexit tour | :07:38. | :07:39.
of the region, finding out how people feel about the prospect | :07:40. | :07:50.
of leaving the EU. Tonight we're in Cheshire East - | :07:51. | :07:52.
where people narrowly voted out - and where there's a large | :07:53. | :07:56.
Polish community. Here's our Social Affairs | :07:57. | :07:58.
Correspondent Clare Fallon. We're back on the road and yes, | :07:59. | :08:10.
we are caravanning in a hailstorm. Our next destination is a town | :08:11. | :08:15.
that's become home to thousands So your noun is here, | :08:16. | :08:18.
and they come in this order. Learning rules of grammar that | :08:19. | :08:26.
will be a mystery to some who were born and educated | :08:27. | :08:29.
in the UK. Many who take English courses | :08:30. | :08:31.
at the local college are Polish. After class, I sat down with some | :08:32. | :08:35.
of the students to talk about Brexit Why do you think people | :08:36. | :08:41.
in the UK voted to leave? There's a lot of immigration | :08:42. | :08:54.
in here, and I think Between a pub and a Polish deli, | :08:55. | :08:56.
we parked up in Crewe town centre and invite people to escape | :08:57. | :09:10.
the freeze for a few minutes. I've got nothing against anybody | :09:11. | :09:14.
coming here to work genuinely, This is a road no | :09:15. | :09:22.
one's been on before. It will be down to the government | :09:23. | :09:27.
to figure out how we get there. Manchester City won the replay 5-1 | :09:28. | :09:51.
against Huddersfield. That's all from me. | :09:52. | :09:53.
Today was a beautiful day, lots and lots of sunshine | :09:54. | :09:57.
But we're changing back to that wet, windy and wintry pattern. | :09:58. | :10:00.
We will see more of this weather as we head through | :10:01. | :10:03.
Tightly packed isobars and weather front after weather front | :10:04. | :10:07.
So we're back in the rain tonight, the showers moved in over | :10:08. | :10:10.
The more organised area is moving in now. | :10:11. | :10:14.
As it rises above the high ground, we will see some sleet and snow. | :10:15. | :10:17.
There might be a little bit of wet snow floating by elsewhere, | :10:18. | :10:21.
but I'm not expecting it to cause any problems. | :10:22. | :10:23.
No weather warnings in place at the moment. | :10:24. | :10:25.
In terms of the numbers tonight, it will vary. | :10:26. | :10:27.
We will talk about perhaps zero to -1 rurally, but in towns | :10:28. | :10:30.
and cities two and three, and four along the coast. | :10:31. | :10:32.
Now, it's all around first thing this morning. | :10:33. | :10:34.
It's going to move away as you go through the morning, | :10:35. | :10:38.
and into the afternoon much brighter skies will work their way through. | :10:39. | :10:41.
It's a nice improvement, but you've got a pretty poor | :10:42. | :10:43.
The sun comes out in the afternoon, perhaps a stray shower here. | :10:44. | :10:48.
The temperatures will range between seven and 9 degrees. | :10:49. | :10:51.
Your national forecast is next, but here is the outlook | :10:52. | :10:53.
outlook. A whole load of 11 is. What does that mean? Maybe John Hammond | :10:54. | :11:04.
will tell you. We're in for a bumpy ride. The | :11:05. | :11:13.
weather chopping and changing keeping us on our toes. Rain never | :11:14. | :11:17.
too far away from our crystal ball. There has been rain around today | :11:18. | :11:21.
across southern areas. This band of wet weather | :11:22. | :11:22. |
