and then in the distance I have heard an ambulance coming and I have

:00:00.:00:00.

just broken out into an absolute sweat.

:00:00.:00:11.

For each family the sounds and scenes of that night still haunt

:00:12.:00:15.

And to think that we were there and there is all those people

:00:16.:00:26.

that were killed, injured, and we are sat here.

:00:27.:00:30.

There are reminders everywhere of last week's attack.

:00:31.:00:35.

The Manchester Arena remains closed behind barriers.

:00:36.:00:38.

Sold-out concerts have been cancelled.

:00:39.:00:42.

Outside the building all thoughts are with those

:00:43.:00:45.

We've just been to a hotel and we just parked our car and

:00:46.:00:59.

there was some armed police checking a car and be

:01:00.:01:01.

We got really panicky and we had to get out.

:01:02.:01:06.

The terror threat level has reduced but this kind of

:01:07.:01:10.

police presence is still judged necessary, perhaps even just for

:01:11.:01:12.

And people need that, including the injured.

:01:13.:01:19.

This girl is 11 and she has only just returned

:01:20.:01:22.

home from hospital after two operations on her leg which was

:01:23.:01:24.

It has made me quite a frightened person

:01:25.:01:30.

which is something that I never have been.

:01:31.:01:34.

I am very wary of everything around me and my surroundings.

:01:35.:01:38.

Manchester has experienced a week of grief and mourning.

:01:39.:01:41.

Seven days that have shaken spirits in the city.

:01:42.:01:46.

But it has been a time of unity despite

:01:47.:01:50.

That's all from me, stay with us on BBC One,

:01:51.:02:12.

Tonight people have gathered in St Anne's Square in Manchester,

:02:13.:02:17.

exactly a week on from the attack at the Arena.

:02:18.:02:20.

APPLAUSE You can hear the rounds of applause

:02:21.:02:32.

here in St Anne's Square in Manchester. A minute's silence has

:02:33.:02:35.

just finished. It has been impeccably observed by everybody

:02:36.:02:41.

here. Hundreds of people, as you can see, and a floral tributes since I

:02:42.:02:45.

was last here have at least tripled in size. It is unbelievable to see.

:02:46.:02:49.

Let's speak to Councillor Pat Carney. It is poignant, touching,

:02:50.:02:58.

had to put it into words. We are one big Manchester family, on this

:02:59.:03:03.

painful anniversary we are thinking about the people we've lost.

:03:04.:03:07.

Thinking about the people who are struggling for their health in

:03:08.:03:10.

hospitals. But we wanted to show their families who are directly

:03:11.:03:17.

affected, who have gone through unendurable pain that people in

:03:18.:03:20.

Manchester and Greater Manchester are thinking about them tonight and

:03:21.:03:24.

we'll think about them in future nights and future days. We saw over

:03:25.:03:31.

the weekend, the run took place, the great Manchester games, the

:03:32.:03:34.

outpouring of emotion here. These floral tributes are something the

:03:35.:03:39.

city has never seen before. It is an emotional seesaw. We've thought

:03:40.:03:43.

about the families and thought about the pain and we hear all the stories

:03:44.:03:47.

about the beautiful people we've lost, and then we've had to go back

:03:48.:03:51.

and have a normal life as well. It has been an emotional seesaw, always

:03:52.:03:55.

been up and down, down and up, but at the forefront all the time is

:03:56.:03:58.

thinking about the pain they going through. When we see the faces of

:03:59.:04:03.

these people we've lost and you hear the tales and people in hospital

:04:04.:04:06.

struggling for their health, Manchester connects with them. A

:04:07.:04:11.

final thought on going forward. It has been an emotional week, but now

:04:12.:04:16.

we have to deal with funerals. The city has to continue to pull

:04:17.:04:19.

together. There will be a lot of tears and grief. We're going to see

:04:20.:04:25.

horrible things, with funerals, as you say, but we will get through the

:04:26.:04:28.

other side. We want to thank all the people who have turned up here

:04:29.:04:32.

tonight who wanted to be here. Manchester, when we've cried as much

:04:33.:04:36.

as we've cried and we're down as much as we are down, we will get to

:04:37.:04:40.

the other side. Thank you very much indeed for joining us. Pat Carney

:04:41.:04:45.

from Manchester City Council. A very poignant and emotional evening.

:04:46.:04:49.

Still hundreds of people here. But you have to speak in hushed tones,

:04:50.:04:54.

such is the raw emotion and the sadness here, exactly a week after

:04:55.:04:58.

that awful suicide bombing at the Manchester Arena. A minute's silence

:04:59.:05:04.

at 10.31 to mark that moment, impeccably observed. As you can hear

:05:05.:05:08.

now, the places still silent. Back to you.

:05:09.:05:12.

Roger, thank you. From St Anne's Square.

:05:13.:05:14.

MI5 is to hold an inquiry into the way warnings about the bomber

:05:15.:05:17.

The security services were alerted to his extremist views

:05:18.:05:20.

on three occasions, and this afternoon the search

:05:21.:05:22.

for evidence switched to a refuse tip near Bury.

:05:23.:05:25.

Here's our Chief Reporter, Dave Guest.

:05:26.:05:28.

Just what these white suited forensic teams are looking

:05:29.:05:32.

for on this rubbish dump in Bury, we don't know, but we do know

:05:33.:05:36.

it is connected to the ongoing Arena bomb investigation.

:05:37.:05:39.

This just the latest place to come under scrutiny.

:05:40.:05:44.

The police arrived at this street in the Whalley Range district

:05:45.:05:47.

of Mancehster earlier this morning and cordoned off this house.

:05:48.:05:51.

I just came out and I've seen all this, and so I've come out

:05:52.:05:54.

It's worrying when something's happening on your doorstep.

:05:55.:05:58.

I don't understand what they're doing here.

:05:59.:06:01.

I've lived next door to them for over ten years,

:06:02.:06:03.

and nothing like this has ever happened before.

:06:04.:06:08.

No one was arrested here or at a property in Chester,

:06:09.:06:11.

that was also raided by counterterrorism

:06:12.:06:12.

This is a fast moving investigation and these raids have now become

:06:13.:06:19.

a daily occurrence and they are not confined to the north-west.

:06:20.:06:21.

At a raid in Shoreham in Sussex this morning, a man of 23

:06:22.:06:25.

In absolute shock, just finished work on my way home, getting ready,

:06:26.:06:32.

grabbing some clothes to go to my girlfriend's house,

:06:33.:06:34.

and I was like OK, there's police outside my door, what's going on?

:06:35.:06:37.

It brings to 14 the total number of people who are currently

:06:38.:06:40.

being questioned by the police in the wake of the Arena attack.

:06:41.:06:44.

And investigators are still trying to establish what Salman Abedi did,

:06:45.:06:48.

and where he went, in the days and hours before

:06:49.:06:51.

The manager of this convenience store believes the man

:06:52.:06:57.

in the black hoodie is Abedi, shopping on the day before carrying

:06:58.:07:00.

Looking at that CCTV, it's the same guy that's been

:07:01.:07:03.

in the shop several times in the past.

:07:04.:07:06.

He looks exactly like the guy that they're saying

:07:07.:07:09.

The shop's close to a flat where police believe Abedi spent

:07:10.:07:16.

The trainers on this man match those worn by the killer on this image

:07:17.:07:22.

GMP say they're aware of the shop footage and enquiries are underway

:07:23.:07:28.

to establish whether it is connected to the attack investigation.

:07:29.:07:32.

They want anyone with potentially useful footage to get in touch.

:07:33.:07:36.

Meanwhile, MI5 is to hold an inquiry into the way warnings

:07:37.:07:38.

The security services were alerted to his extremist

:07:39.:07:45.

The question they must now answer - could they have done

:07:46.:07:50.

Dave Guest, BBC Northwest Tonight, Manchester.

:07:51.:07:57.

People who were not injured but were in the Arena or tried

:07:58.:08:00.

to help the victims of the terrorist attack last week are being

:08:01.:08:03.

A new trauma centre backed by over 90 trained professionals say

:08:04.:08:07.

they are there to provide support, as Yunus Mulla reports.

:08:08.:08:11.

A place to show respect and solidarity with the victims

:08:12.:08:15.

But in the crowd today were also volunteers from the Samaritans;

:08:16.:08:22.

the very people showing compassion may also need support.

:08:23.:08:24.

Some people are very upset and outwardly upset now,

:08:25.:08:28.

and for others, this is just the beginning.

:08:29.:08:32.

At this training session organised by a team of specialists

:08:33.:08:35.

from Israel, psychologists, councillors and mental

:08:36.:08:38.

health professionals were also being prepared.

:08:39.:08:41.

I don't want to feel impotent and useless.

:08:42.:08:43.

I want to feel that I can get out there and that I can do something.

:08:44.:08:47.

Anything I can do with the actual walk in centre, hopefully I'll

:08:48.:08:50.

Heads Up has dealt with disasters on terrorist attacks around

:08:51.:08:54.

the world, but it's now bringing its expertise to the UK.

:08:55.:08:59.

We estimate that just the people immediately involved,

:09:00.:09:04.

there might be 8-1600 people who are seriously

:09:05.:09:06.

experiencing trauma, as a result of this event.

:09:07.:09:08.

Flowers and other tributes continue to grow outside

:09:09.:09:12.

the Manchester Arena, and although a number

:09:13.:09:16.

of areas remain taped off, the police cordon is

:09:17.:09:19.

Victoria station is set to reopen tomorrow.

:09:20.:09:22.

We want to create a safe place for people to get confidence first

:09:23.:09:26.

of all, coming back into central Manchester.

:09:27.:09:29.

We know that's a problem for some people.

:09:30.:09:32.

They can come and just drink coffee and just feel relaxed,

:09:33.:09:34.

and there will be professionally trained people there, if they feel

:09:35.:09:37.

22 people were killed and 116 people were injured

:09:38.:09:45.

but a significant number of people, although unhurt physically,

:09:46.:09:49.

will need specialist help to cope with the horror of a week ago.

:09:50.:09:52.

Yunus Mulla, BBC North West Tonight, Manchester.

:09:53.:09:59.

Manchester's Victoria station is to reopen tomorrow

:10:00.:10:01.

for the first time since the Arena bombing.

:10:02.:10:04.

Trains and trams on the Metrolink are expected to operate a full

:10:05.:10:07.

service from first thing in the morning.

:10:08.:10:10.
