Welcome to South East Today, I'm Polly Evans. Tonight's top stories: | :00:05. | :00:08.
A Kent man in a coma in Bali trapped without insurance, could be | :00:08. | :00:11.
flown home after a mystery businessman stepped in to offer his | :00:11. | :00:15.
parents a loan. Rotten luck; the family holiday | :00:15. | :00:18.
ruined after stinking seaweed was dumped by the council outside their | :00:18. | :00:28.

Thanet beach hut. People don't want to come down here and experience | :00:29. | :00:36.
with the murders situation. Also in tonight's programme: | :00:36. | :00:42.
Welcome to the future, we are live from the Amex Stadium, charting its | :00:42. | :00:46.
progress from the architect's drawings to a state-of-the-art and | :00:46. | :00:52.

weeks in a coma in an Indonesian hospital. But Richard Plummer could | :01:16. | :01:19.
at last be flown home, after an anonymous businessman agreed to | :01:19. | :01:23.
loan his family 80,000. The 32- year-old is critically ill after a | :01:23. | :01:27.
motorbike crash in Bali. He had no travel insurance and his parents | :01:27. | :01:31.
could be forced to sell their home in Maidstone to repay the loan to a | :01:31. | :01:41.

man they're describing as "their saviour". Rebecca Barry reports. | :01:46. | :01:50.
Spreading the news, this morning be a businessman the wants to remain | :01:50. | :01:58.
anonymous lent his couple 80,000 to bring us on. Regis he is a | :01:58. | :02:04.
saviour, a really. He has given us a great deal of hope. A few days | :02:04. | :02:10.
ago, we were in absolute turmoil. Richard has been in a coma on the | :02:10. | :02:14.
other side of the world almost one month. He was injured in a | :02:14. | :02:18.
motorbike accident in Bali, but in the next 24 hours, he should be | :02:19. | :02:24.
back home. It will be wonderful because we can see him every day. | :02:24. | :02:28.
He had no insurance, so that are many have spent their life savings | :02:28. | :02:35.
on medical bills. It would cost up to 100,000 to repatriate Richard | :02:35. | :02:39.
by air ambulance. Are empty be my fingers crossed but everything goes | :02:39. | :02:43.
well. There are still many obstacles to overcome. He must be | :02:43. | :02:52.
deemed fit enough to live. -- could fly. When he gets home, there is a | :02:52. | :02:55.
chance he may not fully recover. His pregnant girlfriend and his | :02:55. | :03:00.
brother had been at his bedside. These but to his brother before he | :03:00. | :03:05.
got on a flight back to the UK.... We spoke to his brother. I told him | :03:05. | :03:12.
that we all loved him. We want him home so you can be with his family. | :03:12. | :03:19.
They had this message for the man who helped them. We cannot thank | :03:19. | :03:22.
you enough. You have done the kindest thing that has ever | :03:22. | :03:27.
happened to us in our life. I would just say thank you very much. He is | :03:27. | :03:35.
a saint. But it's not just one man that has shown kindness. People | :03:35. | :03:45.
:03:45. | :03:45. | ||
have been so kind. He is a cheque towards you at some's repatriation. | :03:45. | :03:52.
- You is a checked. The family have been overwhelmed by the generosity. | :03:52. | :03:59.
Until their son is backed by their side, based they cannot relax.... | :03:59. | :04:03.
They say they cannot relax. They were looking forward to a | :04:03. | :04:07.
family seaside holiday on the Kent coast. But Ian and Jennifer Mowat | :04:07. | :04:10.
say their fortnight in Minnis Bay has been ruined because Thanet | :04:10. | :04:13.
District Council dumped a huge pile of rotten and fly-infested seaweed | :04:13. | :04:16.
outside the beach hut they hired. MPs and councillors have met today | :04:16. | :04:18.
to discuss how to tackle the problem of rotting seaweed. Peter | :04:18. | :04:25.
Whittlesea has the details. Win this family rented a beach hut, | :04:25. | :04:31.
be expected uninterrupted sea views and golden sands. Bat at they | :04:31. | :04:38.
expected. Instead, they got an enormous heat of rock and seaweed. | :04:38. | :04:44.
There was a 10 ft pile of seaweed. People do not want to come down | :04:44. | :04:48.
here and experience a similar situation. The seaweed is normal | :04:48. | :04:55.
removed and put on farmland. It cannot be put on the farm and | :04:56. | :05:00.
because the crops have not been are listed. It creates an all-too | :05:00. | :05:07.
obvious problems. It makes you want to vomit, to be honest. When the | :05:07. | :05:14.
days are warm, it smells worse and the flies are worse. It is not just | :05:14. | :05:19.
you that there are problems. In Brittany in France, this is thought | :05:19. | :05:25.
to have poisoned wild boar. But days a year in Thanet that the Lee | :05:25. | :05:34.
Mead poses no risk. There are keen to find a long-term solution.... | :05:34. | :05:44.
Beat seaweed. The solution has got to be to get rid of this seaweed, | :05:44. | :05:48.
through combustion or more probably anaerobic digestion, at the same | :05:48. | :05:54.
time, beacon have to get rid of agricultural waste. The council has | :05:55. | :05:59.
been inundated with complaints, but each day, hundreds of tons of | :05:59. | :06:08.

talent she never knew that she had. For the supporters of Brighton and | :06:39. | :06:41.
Hove Albion football club, tomorrow marks the culmination of a very | :06:41. | :06:45.
long journey. Since their last game at the Goldstone Ground in 1997, | :06:45. | :06:49.
the Seagulls have dreamed of moving into a new, permanent home. And | :06:49. | :06:52.
when the players take to the field for a pre-season friendly against | :06:52. | :06:56.
Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow, that dream will finally become reality. | :06:56. | :06:59.
Neil Bell is live at the Amex Stadium and Neil, after years of | :06:59. | :07:01.
campaigning and two public inquiries, this is a momentous day | :07:01. | :07:11.
:07:11. | :07:25. | ||
Tomorrow afternoon, many supporters will arrive here for the first time | :07:25. | :07:29.
and they will go, simply, while. The club chairman is the man that | :07:29. | :07:38.
made it happen. 24 hours add, the stadium is fantastic. The place is | :07:38. | :07:43.
buzzing and roll-on tomorrow. was his money bet paid with the | :07:43. | :07:47.
bricks and mortar, Tony Bloom, and without him, it is hard to know | :07:47. | :07:53.

:08:03. | :08:05. | ||
packed with thousands of supporters. -- tomorrow afternoon, the bands. | :08:05. | :08:10.
This is where the fans will come to see them play in a state-of-the-art | :08:10. | :08:15.
stadium, the best in the county, the best in the country. That | :08:15. | :08:20.
reality, here today for all to see. It took years to reach this moment, | :08:21. | :08:25.
but for three generations of one family, is a new stadium was worth | :08:25. | :08:30.
the wait. Incredible, a dream come true. We never thought it would | :08:31. | :08:36.
happen in or reality. He always had blind faith it would happen, but | :08:36. | :08:42.
until we see it in all its glory, we realise that the battle to get a | :08:42. | :08:48.
new home as been thoroughly worth it. So much effort has gone into it. | :08:48. | :08:56.
It is an absolute dream of to come and see the finals of the efforts. | :08:56. | :09:02.
And Saturday will be a great day. In April 1997, up from 85 years, | :09:02. | :09:07.
the last every game was played at the Goldstone Ground. After ground- | :09:07. | :09:12.
sharing a chilling Sten, Withdean athletics stadium became a | :09:12. | :09:22.
temporary home.... At Gillingham. It wasn't until 2007 that a new | :09:22. | :09:27.
permission was granted a stadium at Falmer. Thousands of fans took a | :09:27. | :09:33.
desperate plea for aid you won't be the very top. After not one, but | :09:33. | :09:37.
two public inquiries, the champagne finally levelled and could not have | :09:37. | :09:42.
tasted more sweet than the club are promotion last season. Championship | :09:42. | :09:47.
football in in new stadiums. Hopefully within the next five-ten | :09:47. | :09:53.
years, we would be in the Premier League. It would be great to play | :09:53. | :09:57.
the big teams. As the club looks to a bright new future here at the | :09:57. | :10:03.
Amex Stadium, some of its lifelong bans hang onto old memories. This | :10:03. | :10:08.
is an old piece of netting from the Goldstone Ground, and this was the | :10:08. | :10:12.
old seat of Paul Samrah. He would have to admit the new variety is a | :10:13. | :10:17.
lot more comfortable. The wilderness years are over, the | :10:17. | :10:22.
Albion finally as a base to Kuala one. | :10:22. | :10:27.
One man has been involved in this project from the very moment, he | :10:27. | :10:32.
probably knows every part of the stadium. His is everything you | :10:32. | :10:39.
hoped for? It is great, we're pleased at what we have achieved. | :10:39. | :10:45.
The reaction from the fans and from everyone is wonderful. It is called | :10:46. | :10:51.
the Committee Stadium, how do you hope to get the community involved? | :10:51. | :10:55.
We always had an active community programme, working with children | :10:55. | :10:58.
and young people, particularly disadvantaged people and the | :10:58. | :11:03.
programmes will continue here. It allows them to expand at work and | :11:03. | :11:07.
particularly with American Express on throwing I'll be in in the | :11:07. | :11:12.
community, they can do a lot of work. -- sponsoring are being in | :11:12. | :11:18.
the community. And you could make the stadium even bigger if you need | :11:19. | :11:26.
to? Well, we needed to, here we have got 17,500 season ticket | :11:26. | :11:32.
holders, so we were paid to crowds of around 20,000 and we need more | :11:32. | :11:37.
seats, so we have already started working on it. And you very much. | :11:37. | :11:47.
:11:47. | :11:50. | ||
Lots more to come from here major in the programme. | :11:50. | :11:54.
A jury has been told that a woman accused of murdering her two young | :11:54. | :11:57.
children swallowed a razor blade at a mental health unit, because she | :11:57. | :12:01.
couldn't see a future for herself. Lewes Crown Court has heard that | :12:01. | :12:03.
Fiona Donnison was suffering from depression when two-year-old Harry | :12:03. | :12:10.
and three-year-old Elise were killed. Jon Hunt reports. | :12:10. | :12:12.
Fiona Donnison is accused of suffocating her children at her | :12:12. | :12:15.
rented home at Lightwater in Surrey, before driving their bodies to | :12:15. | :12:19.
Heathfield in the boot of her car. Since being arrested and charged | :12:19. | :12:22.
with their murder, the 45-year-old has been held at a medium secure | :12:22. | :12:26.
mental heath unit. But her consultant psychiatrist, Dr Mari | :12:26. | :12:31.
Harty revealed today that while there, she tried to harm herself. | :12:32. | :12:35.
The court was told that on 23rd January this year, just days before | :12:35. | :12:37.
the first anniversary of the killings, Fiona Donnison swallowed | :12:37. | :12:42.
a blade from a pencil sharpener. She told her consultant that even | :12:42. | :12:45.
though she thought it would harm her, she didn't actually have the | :12:45. | :12:50.
courage to commit suicide, but she thought it would be better for | :12:50. | :12:56.
everybody if she wasn't here anymore. Dr Harty told the court | :12:56. | :12:59.
that at the time the children were killed, Fiona Donnison was mentally | :12:59. | :13:03.
unwell. Defending Simon Russell Flint QC asked Dr Harty what that | :13:03. | :13:10.
mental illness amounted to. At the time of the deaths of Harry and | :13:10. | :13:13.
Elise, Dr Harty said, "Ms Donnison was suffering from an abnormality | :13:13. | :13:16.
of mind, and that abnormality of mind was depression of moderate | :13:16. | :13:19.
gravity. But under cross examination, Prosecutor Christine | :13:19. | :13:24.
Laing QC asked Dr Harty. "Did you ever ask her why she killed the | :13:24. | :13:27.
children?" "No", Dr Harty replied. "Did you not think it might be | :13:27. | :13:30.
relevant?" She was asked. "She was very guarded," Dr Harty said, "and | :13:30. | :13:34.
I was aware she had been advised not to talk about it". Fiona | :13:34. | :13:42.
Donnison denies murdering Harry and Elise, the trial continues. | :13:42. | :13:44.
Serious allegations about the neglect of adults with learning | :13:44. | :13:48.
difficulties at a Kent care home have been passed onto the police. | :13:48. | :13:52.
Sea View Lodge in Herne Bay was closed down by the Care Quality | :13:52. | :13:54.
Commission last month, after staff members raised concerns about poor | :13:54. | :14:01.
standards of care. Bacon buttys are back on the menu | :14:01. | :14:03.
at Brighton's waste collection depot, after binmen told the | :14:03. | :14:08.
council they were unhappy with the meat-free Monday scheme. The cafe | :14:08. | :14:11.
at the Hollingdean site worked with the council to trial a national | :14:11. | :14:13.
campaign to promote vegetarianism, but after two meat-free Mondays, | :14:13. | :14:20.
the regular menu is coming back. 34 million has been earmarked for | :14:20. | :14:25.
the regeneration of one of Kent's most deprived estates. The money | :14:25. | :14:28.
will pay for the demolition of 176 flats on the Sherwood Estate in | :14:28. | :14:35.
Tunbridge Wells, and the construction of 250 new homes. | :14:35. | :14:38.
She travelled the world as a foreign correspondent, covering | :14:38. | :14:41.
major international news stories. But a serious illness ended Triona | :14:41. | :14:43.

never knew she had. Now her work's on display at a gallery in | :14:49. | :14:59.
Whitstable, as Sara Smith reports. It is no coincidence that so many | :14:59. | :15:03.
pieces of this exhibition are based around old newspaper and magazine | :15:03. | :15:11.
papers. They are pieces that make you think about the use of image, | :15:11. | :15:18.

myself in hospital, and I started painting and that was the first | :15:59. | :16:04.

Neil Bell at the Amex Stadium, but first some news of four very | :16:55. | :17:05.
special programmes coming up in August. We are getting out Richard | :17:05. | :17:07.
to this these I'd ever Friday in August. | :17:07. | :17:13.
We're entering the festival spirit at some of the biggest summer's | :17:13. | :17:18.
celebrations across Kent and Sussex. We will be live each best of all | :17:18. | :17:22.
Friday and we would love as many of you to come along and join in in | :17:22. | :17:25.
the bond. We start at Broadstairs Folk Week | :17:25. | :17:31.
on August the 5th. Head to Eastbourne Airbourne on the 12th. | :17:31. | :17:34.
Join in the roof party at Bexhill's De La Warr Pavilion on the 19th, | :17:34. | :17:37.
and finish at Herne Bay Festival on the 26th. That's Festival Friday - | :17:37. | :17:39.
throughout August - on South East Today. | :17:39. | :17:43.
That's it from us in the newsroom, but we can rejoin Neil Bell at the | :17:43. | :17:45.
Amex Stadium, where final preparations are underway to ensure | :17:45. | :17:49.
everything's ready for tomorrow friendly match against Spurs. Neil | :17:49. | :17:52.
- manager Gus Poyet steered the club to promotion last season and | :17:52. | :18:00.
now he gets to lead them out at their new home. | :18:00. | :18:06.
Absolutely. Just before 3pm tomorrow, the players will stand | :18:06. | :18:11.
here in the tunnel, no doubt a bit nervous. They will walk down the | :18:11. | :18:16.
tunnel and as they do so they will be greeted by lots of noise | :18:16. | :18:22.
understands containing 17,000 Brighton and Hove Albion fans, many | :18:22. | :18:27.
that have waited 14 years with his day. The manager has only been here | :18:27. | :18:31.
two years, but nobody is more excited about their prospects no | :18:31. | :18:37.
that they have come home. These were the scenes at the final | :18:37. | :18:43.
game at the Withdean Stadium, bear on like he had a comfortable hold | :18:43. | :18:53.
:18:53. | :18:56. | ||
for a decade. - Margaret there Been in the Championship, having | :18:56. | :19:06.
:19:06. | :19:07. | ||
the chance to get in at the right time, pretty special. Hopefully, | :19:07. | :19:12.
very good feelings. It would be a big day for the fans who in | :19:12. | :19:15.
Brighton, which chose away important is Stadium is for | :19:15. | :19:20.
everyone. Their first opponents, Tottenham | :19:20. | :19:24.
Hotspur could hardly be more glamourous or more suitable. The | :19:24. | :19:34.
manager has a lot of good memories from his time at the London club. | :19:34. | :19:39.
think it would be a great afternoon. The best part, is that it is not | :19:39. | :19:49.
:19:49. | :19:49. | ||
three points, pictures that we can really go and enjoy it.... It shows. | :19:49. | :19:54.
It would be a new challenge Poros. The fans' expectations and beyond | :19:54. | :19:58.
could hardly be greater, but promotion to the Premier League | :19:58. | :20:05.
made a time. I want to feel that the Harry Championship team every | :20:05. | :20:10.
week, then it will depend on keeping the consistency and the | :20:10. | :20:20.
:20:20. | :20:20. | ||
quality that we add to the team and the system of play. Hopefully, I | :20:20. | :20:26.
would be able to say we're a medal table team or a chance to challenge | :20:26. | :20:32.
for the Kop. His new stadium will be be seen of drama, its engine and | :20:32. | :20:37.
disappointment, but hopefully, great success as well. One of the | :20:37. | :20:42.
most impressive things is under my feet. In the old days, he sprinkles | :20:43. | :20:48.
some grass, put some water and hope for the best. This is outstanding. | :20:48. | :20:55.
Tell me a bit about how you made his pitch? It is a state of the art | :20:55. | :20:59.
design. The grass we selected should openly stand up what we and | :21:00. | :21:07.
our season. It looks fantastic now. We have got the tooth to do the job | :21:07. | :21:14.
but I think it will see the season through nicely. People will be very | :21:14. | :21:17.
impressed tomorrow. Thank you. It never does any harm, of course, | :21:17. | :21:20.
to have a bit of celebrity support. Norman Cook, perhaps better known | :21:20. | :21:29.
as the DJ Fatboy Slim, is a massive Brighton fan. | :21:29. | :21:35.
A pleasure to meet you and to be exciting season in prospect. Yes, | :21:35. | :21:41.
hopefully exciting. Let's hope the fourteen-year-old journey to the | :21:41. | :21:47.
stadium has been worth it. It has been such a build-up. There was | :21:47. | :21:52.
disappointment at the end of it, but would be killing. We have a | :21:52. | :21:57.
good manager had a good team and a bit of optimism at the club. | :21:58. | :22:05.
have been involved more deeply than been a fan. It started off as a fan | :22:05. | :22:10.
and slowly it snowballed. The record companies sponsored the | :22:10. | :22:17.
shirt and then we were financially involved. When we get our new | :22:17. | :22:24.
stadium it will help even more. We were always just that one step | :22:24. | :22:27.
ahead of bankruptcy and homelessness. We managed to keep | :22:27. | :22:32.
our heads above water and it is amazing to go from just treading | :22:32. | :22:38.
water to suddenly soaring. It feels good. I think it is on a par with | :22:38. | :22:44.
Wembley into and there are it is bold and how it is done out. | :22:44. | :22:50.
plans to play a big in the stadium? We definitely do. Hopefully next | :22:50. | :22:55.
year. We Brits going to do it before, but getting the park and | :22:55. | :22:59.
ride and everything we were not sure if we would destroy the pitch. | :22:59. | :23:03.
We did not want to do that immediately, so we will wait until | :23:03. | :23:08.
the end of a precedent and have a celebratory open up the stadium. | :23:08. | :23:12.
Will we miss anything about the Withdean? On the last game I went | :23:12. | :23:19.
to there, I thought, I have this feeling of, I am going to miss this | :23:19. | :23:27.
place. I think of it fondly. When we get to that this game at the | :23:27. | :23:33.
Amex Stadium them, bring it on. sporting occasion is complete | :23:33. | :23:39.
without some prima to entertainment. Tomorrow, an opera stars will sing | :23:40. | :23:44.
before my game. Here is what rehearsals sounded like this | :23:44. | :23:54.
:23:54. | :24:07. | ||
You have traded many big plays his bid for, Wembley Stadium, added his | :24:07. | :24:14.
compare with our fantastic. State of-the-art. It is everything | :24:14. | :24:18.
Brighton had been aiming for. It is wonderful. We had some sound checks | :24:18. | :24:25.
this afternoon. A great honour to be here. Do you get a buzz from a | :24:25. | :24:30.
big crowd? Absolutely. It makes the day when the crowd sings along with | :24:30. | :24:35.
you and cheers and everything. Tomorrow, very special. It would be | :24:35. | :24:40.
fun, there would be celebration, there will be the memories of those | :24:40. | :24:45.
that didn't make it here. 40 years it took to build its stadium. | :24:45. | :24:50.
Tomorrow, we will sing abide With Me and memories of those. | :24:50. | :24:56.
watched the game? Absolutely. I would be singing had been watching | :24:56. | :24:59.
the game and cheering on Brighton and bringing the luck that are | :24:59. | :25:04.
brought to England over the years, hope the! Thank you. BBC's a sex | :25:04. | :25:10.
will be here and they start at 2pm tomorrow afternoon. We have | :25:10. | :25:15.
bulletins from the stadium as well. You can find more details on the | :25:15. | :25:25.

That forecast for this week could be described as a convincing home | :25:27. | :25:32.
win, but it depends on were you are or, because if you're in West | :25:32. | :25:38.
Sussex, East Sussex, West Kent, Surrey, but you have scored. That | :25:38. | :25:43.
is where the best of the sunshine will be. A lot of cloud coming and | :25:43. | :25:48.
going and it is because we have got a light wind in an orderly | :25:48. | :25:52.
direction. And eat out over the North Sea will move on to the | :25:52. | :25:57.
shores and make it feel coup in northern and eastern parts of Kent. | :25:58. | :26:02.
The further west, but best of the temperatures and the sunshine. This | :26:02. | :26:08.
evening, some good sunny spells. Still some plant. Just to the West, | :26:08. | :26:18.
:26:18. | :26:20. | ||
a dying we dare current... A dying weather front. temperatures around | :26:20. | :26:25.
12 or 13 degrees. Tomorrow, it may start to be disappointed, some | :26:25. | :26:30.
cloud, but if you're in that Western zone, Sussex, Surrey, West | :26:30. | :26:35.
Kent, you see this that and eventually. There will be cloud | :26:35. | :26:40.
hanging on. Could be bright, could get some sunny spells, but the best | :26:40. | :26:45.
of the sunshine and temperatures will be around the western end, | :26:45. | :26:49.
reaching 21 or 22 degrees. Tomorrow evening, in two Sunday, nothing | :26:50. | :26:55.
will change, still patchy cloud. It clears guises of. The main thing is, | :26:55. | :27:01.
it stays dry across the weekend. The best of the sunshine will be in | :27:01. | :27:05.
the West. Walk out to be eased. Temperatures could reach 23 or 24 | :27:05. | :27:11.
degrees. In the east, are still feeling a bit cooler. For the next | :27:11. | :27:17.
few days, it is not a part, but totally depend on were you are. If | :27:17. | :27:21.
you love the sun shone, head to Sussex and Surrey. Other of them | :27:21. | :27:28.
backed, congratulations to Anna and Sam getting married tomorrow. | :27:28. | :27:31.
Sam getting married tomorrow. Congratulations. | :27:31. | :27:35. |
