some way. And therefore this is a big problem that the Security

Service and the police are `ctively focused on. It is why they `re

vigilant, why they are taking the steps that they are around the

border, on monitoring travel to and from Syria in the way that they are,

rightly, in guarding our national security.

A man has died in a crash on the M20 Motorway. It is thought a vdhicle

hit the central reservation of the London bound side of the ro`d

between J8 and J8 at about 8pm last night. It was then hit by another

vehicle killing a man from @shford. Travel chaos is expected tolorrow as

part of the Brighton mainline will be shut because of flooding at

Patcham. Several flood warnhngs are still in place and 400 homes are

still without power after Friday night's storms. Nicola Haseler

limit the flooding. The River Nailbourne surges through

the Valley trying to finding any outlet it can. Here just about

contained by a makeshift dal. It was sandbags that saved these homes in

Bishop Spong this weekend. That s actually what saved our house. If it

hadn't been for that, we wotld have been in trouble yesterday. Streaming

to the site yesterday and it's right up to the second sandbags. Ht was

quite scary. Haven't been lhving in the house because we haven't had any

sanitation for three weeks because our sewers are literally so

overwhelmed you can't even turn the tap on because as soon as you do the

sink fills up. Until three weeks ago, there was no flowing w`ter

here. The River Nailbourne was still. The ground is so sattrated.

It is just sandbags that is holding back the river and preventing it

from running into the middld of the village. It has been divertdd down

what was a dry riverbed that runs along the backs of peoples gardens.

Yesterday, with all the rain we had, it came over and the whole garden

was completely underwater. The house was flooded as well. The River

Nailbourne carries ground w`ter Ground water levels are incredibly

high at the moment. That has contributed with more rainf`ll and

underwater springs. Ground water could take some time to drop. That

could take weeks. There could be funding alerts and problems for some

time. After a weekend of fallen trees, power cuts and travel

disruption, here people are hoping for some respite for more r`in

The first ever European Indoor Hockey Club Championships to be held

in the UK have been hailed `s a great success. East Grinste`d hockey

club hosted the event at thd K2 in Crawley with the top eight teams in

Europe taking part as Neil Bell reports.

With national pride at stakd, emotions were running high `t the K2

Centre and it produced some enthralling hockey for an

enthusiastic audience. It is a great sport to play and watch. I `m sure

we will see more of it in ftture. It was East Grinstead hockey clubs

first time in the competition and they narrowly missed out on a place

in the semi finals but the big crowds were more than happy. As in

so many sporting encounters, the German team came out on top this

afternoon. This might not h`ve been the final they were hoping for, but

they can be proud of hosting a very successful competition.
