Welcome to South East Today, I'm Rob Smith. | :00:00. | :00:00.
Tonight's top stories: Selling off charity donations to raise | :00:07. | :00:17.
Calls for an investigation after to Kent candidates | :00:18. | :00:21.
The woman who lost a leg in a motorbike accident is told | :00:22. | :00:25.
she isn't disabled enough to keep her subsidised car. | :00:26. | :00:29.
The most frustrating thing is how hard I have pushed myself throughout | :00:30. | :00:35.
this last five years. How hard I have worked. To walk, to go back to | :00:36. | :00:42.
work, to live my life and now I feel like I've been penalised for that. | :00:43. | :00:44.
Plans to spend 50,000 pounds for lifeguards on the Sussex beach | :00:45. | :00:50.
where seven men drowned this summer could be approved this evening. | :00:51. | :00:55.
We meet the yeoman of the guard - the tower of london's top | :00:56. | :00:58.
beefeater's coming home to Sussex after almost 20 years keeping | :00:59. | :01:01.
How Kent and Kolkata are celebrating their links | :01:02. | :01:06.
in a year-long celebration being launched by the Queen. | :01:07. | :01:20.
There are calls tonight for an investigation | :01:21. | :01:22.
into the conduct of two prospective Labour candidates for | :01:23. | :01:24.
Kent County Council, after they raised party funds | :01:25. | :01:31.
by selling off cosmetics and toiletries which had been | :01:32. | :01:33.
donated to charity and were supposed to go | :01:34. | :01:35.
Karen Constantine and Raushan Ara have apologised | :01:36. | :01:38.
and promised to donate the money they raised to local | :01:39. | :01:40.
charities in Thanet, where they're standing for election. | :01:41. | :01:42.
Our Political Editor Helen Catt reports. | :01:43. | :01:51.
We were fortunate enough to be given thousands and thousands of pounds | :01:52. | :01:58.
worth of Lush. And within that, we give out to charities and good | :01:59. | :02:05.
causes and today is a good cause. One happens to be the Labour Party. | :02:06. | :02:09.
You are looking at our warehouse and we hopefully can raise some money. | :02:10. | :02:13.
Why Maccabees boxes of toiletries were supposed to go to the needy. | :02:14. | :02:18.
Instead, they ended up on sale in Ramsgate Pope to raise money for the | :02:19. | :02:23.
local Labour Party. That has angered some. That -- by anybody's | :02:24. | :02:29.
standards, taking charitable donations destined for homeless | :02:30. | :02:34.
people and destitute people to use and sell and fund your election | :02:35. | :02:39.
campaign is morally reprehensible. The products were given by Lush to | :02:40. | :02:45.
one charity on the condition they were not resold. That charity passed | :02:46. | :02:49.
it to another, food for all, and it was they who gave it to Labour. But | :02:50. | :02:55.
there are rules restricting donations from charities to | :02:56. | :02:59.
political parties. Charities must only carry out activities to create | :03:00. | :03:02.
his own charitable purposes and had additional funds or objects to a | :03:03. | :03:07.
political party would be contrary to the purposes of any charity. Food | :03:08. | :03:14.
for oil's Jenny Matias has sent a letter of apology to the kindness | :03:15. | :03:18.
offensive charity. She said she was informed they were not to be sold | :03:19. | :03:22.
for profit and they apologised and they had not totally ad here to the | :03:23. | :03:26.
terms of the donation. They are devastated, she said, that there are | :03:27. | :03:29.
unwise actions to a certain group have since become problematic. As | :03:30. | :03:33.
for Labour, they told us they have not breached electoral law and there | :03:34. | :03:37.
are no allegations they have broken any rules. Its candidates, Karen | :03:38. | :03:41.
Constantine and Raushan Ara have apologised and said the ?415 raised | :03:42. | :03:46.
will be split between two local charities. They Ramsgate today, some | :03:47. | :03:52.
of that was enough. If they've acknowledged it and apologised, but | :03:53. | :03:59.
is fair enough. If the money is going to charity, then yes. It | :04:00. | :04:04.
shouldn't have happened in the first place. And how often does it happen? | :04:05. | :04:09.
The Charity Commissioners said they are contacted the trustees of Food | :04:10. | :04:14.
For All but an informal choir has not been opened. -- a formal | :04:15. | :04:16.
inquiry. Helen Catt reporting, and she joins | :04:17. | :04:20.
us live from Ramsgate. It is unclear whether anything will | :04:21. | :04:29.
happen. We've spoken to several local politicians and some have said | :04:30. | :04:33.
Labour should carry out an internal investigation. It seems they are | :04:34. | :04:36.
fully satisfied they do not need to from what they said this afternoon. | :04:37. | :04:41.
Other people felt they accepted this was a genuine mistake and it had | :04:42. | :04:46.
been rectified. Despite that, a complaint has been made to Kent | :04:47. | :04:50.
Police who would be responsible for investigating further and they say | :04:51. | :04:53.
it is too early to say whether or not they will. Thank you. | :04:54. | :04:56.
A disabled woman from Kent says she's been left unable to work | :04:57. | :04:58.
and is entirely dependent on benefits because of the | :04:59. | :05:01.
Leah Debus from Tonbridge lost her leg in a motorbike | :05:02. | :05:09.
She was given a motability car, which she says has | :05:10. | :05:12.
But the new Personal Independent Payment assessment concluded she no | :05:13. | :05:16.
The governments insists it is providing a strong safety net | :05:17. | :05:20.
She's had to give back the specially adapted car after her personal | :05:21. | :05:26.
independence payment, or PIP assessment, | :05:27. | :05:27.
Because Leah Debus can walk 20 metres with a | :05:28. | :05:33.
prostatic leg, unaided, she was judged not disabled enough. | :05:34. | :05:35.
She had just been offered a new job, but | :05:36. | :05:37.
said the location is to far away without a car. | :05:38. | :05:43.
I've been the most frustrating thing is... | :05:44. | :05:45.
I think the most frustrating thing is | :05:46. | :05:48.
actually how hard I've pushed myself throughout this last five years. | :05:49. | :05:52.
How hard I have worked to walk, to go | :05:53. | :05:54.
And I feel like I am being | :05:55. | :05:58.
They've taken it away from me and now they have made it nearly | :05:59. | :06:03.
I also have the steering knob up here, | :06:04. | :06:08.
because I physically can't turn around a sharp corner. | :06:09. | :06:12.
Becky Lewis fears she too will lose her car. | :06:13. | :06:14.
Now that I can walk more than 20 metres, that means I have to hand | :06:15. | :06:18.
Denying them the opportunity to reach places using | :06:19. | :06:29.
a mobility car, an adapted vehicle, has got to be counter-productive. | :06:30. | :06:33.
These people will become more reliant upon statutory services, | :06:34. | :06:36.
But they also lose a lot of choices and | :06:37. | :06:42.
So the consequence of that would be to make people prisoners | :06:43. | :06:46.
Effectively putting them under house arrest. | :06:47. | :06:50.
The Government is reviewing disability payments to try to save | :06:51. | :06:53.
The Department for Work and Pensions said decisions are for | :06:54. | :06:58.
PIP made after considering all the evidence from the claimant | :06:59. | :07:00.
People leaving them the disabilities scheme are eligible for a one-off | :07:01. | :07:09.
When you've got millions of people applying for | :07:10. | :07:12.
it and living with all kinds of different physical and mental and | :07:13. | :07:15.
psychological conditions, you do need to draw some rules and | :07:16. | :07:17.
Leah Debus is now planning to appeal. | :07:18. | :07:24.
Simon, some Conservative MPs have criticised their own Government | :07:25. | :07:28.
today, saying the whole system of payments for disabled people | :07:29. | :07:30.
Yes, and it has caused a huge row and that is after a tribunal ruled | :07:31. | :07:40.
that someone who can make a journey because they are suffering from | :07:41. | :07:43.
severe anxiety should be treated the same as somebody who cannot make a | :07:44. | :07:47.
journey because they are visually impaired. It is not the changes -- | :07:48. | :07:53.
these changes could affect 160,000 people and the Government reckon | :07:54. | :07:56.
that could add ?4 billion to the welfare bill at a time they are | :07:57. | :08:00.
trying to bring it down. So it will be a big problem for the Work and | :08:01. | :08:04.
Pensions Secretary who is the Ashford MP, Damian Green. He was | :08:05. | :08:08.
unavailable to talk to us today. Thank you. | :08:09. | :08:08.
And there's more from Leah Debus and other amputees campaigning | :08:09. | :08:11.
against the loss of their motability cars in tonight's | :08:12. | :08:13.
edition of Inside Out, here on BBC One at 7.30pm. | :08:14. | :08:17.
The investigations into a house fire which left one man dead and two the | :08:18. | :08:30.
people needing hospital treatment. -- two the people. | :08:31. | :08:32.
Plans for lifeguards to be stationed at a popular beach in East Sussex | :08:33. | :08:35.
where seven people drowned last summer could be approved | :08:36. | :08:37.
Rother District Council has set aside more than ?50,000 | :08:38. | :08:41.
to fund the service at Camber Sands, near Rye. | :08:42. | :08:43.
Our reporter Charlie Rose joins us from Bexhill Town Hall, | :08:44. | :08:45.
where that meeting has just got started. | :08:46. | :08:47.
Charlie, families of the men who drowned say they believe | :08:48. | :08:49.
a lifeguard service would have saved their lives. | :08:50. | :09:02.
Ever since those tragic events of last summer, the families of those | :09:03. | :09:07.
who died have always demanded action and the people I spoke to in camber | :09:08. | :09:10.
Sands this afternoon also the lifeguards would be a good idea. | :09:11. | :09:16.
This meeting at the Bexhill Townhall has already got under way and a few | :09:17. | :09:20.
moments ago, I spoke to some councillors who showed up for the | :09:21. | :09:23.
meeting and I asked if the plans were going to be approved and they | :09:24. | :09:29.
said they thought so. This is one of the two men who lost their lives | :09:30. | :09:32.
last July. He died after attempting to rescue this man, a Brazilian, | :09:33. | :09:40.
after he got into difficulty as camber Sands. In August, tragedy | :09:41. | :09:45.
struck again and five more men drowned. Six months a windy winter's | :09:46. | :09:52.
day and few are venturing onto this speech. Tonight, plans could be | :09:53. | :09:55.
approved to fund a lifeguard service here in the summer. I think that | :09:56. | :10:04.
will be an excellent idea. I come from Cornwall where we have lots of | :10:05. | :10:10.
accidents in DC. I grew up there. And therefore, I know how quickly | :10:11. | :10:15.
everything changes. There hasn't been an accident like this for a | :10:16. | :10:18.
while, but it could happen at any time and the best way to prevent it | :10:19. | :10:24.
is to please lifeguards here. If approved, there would be 15 | :10:25. | :10:27.
lifeguards with eight on duty at any given time. Ever since those five | :10:28. | :10:32.
young men died last August, their relatives have demanded action. It | :10:33. | :10:38.
is unbelievable. I'm shocked and angry, you get 25,000 people a day | :10:39. | :10:43.
or something, and these five kids have died. Young, healthy people. | :10:44. | :10:49.
They were good swimmers, too. So for them to just get under the water | :10:50. | :10:52.
like this and died... Some people say it was a riptide. But if there | :10:53. | :10:58.
had lifeguards there, but could be saved. The District Council set | :10:59. | :11:04.
aside more than ?50,000 to fund a potential lifeguard service and has | :11:05. | :11:08.
begun. Now, the RNLI lifeboat service has already got the help of | :11:09. | :11:16.
two lifeguard supervisor is to put together a recruitment and training | :11:17. | :11:19.
programme down at camber Sands and the services they are looking to | :11:20. | :11:23.
offer a quality team and put together a quality team of | :11:24. | :11:26.
lifeguards down that they're ready for the summer. | :11:27. | :11:28.
The train drivers union Aslef will resume talks with Southern Rail | :11:29. | :11:30.
They're trying to resolve an ongoing dispute | :11:31. | :11:33.
over the introduction of driver-only operated trains. | :11:34. | :11:34.
A deal struck between union bosses and the rail company was rejected | :11:35. | :11:37.
The RMT union, which represents guards, | :11:38. | :11:41.
The i360 viewing tower in Brighton has remained closed again today | :11:42. | :11:50.
while work is carried out to replace a damaged part that | :11:51. | :11:53.
caused the attraction to break down on Friday. | :11:54. | :11:57.
The observation pod became stuck for over an hour | :11:58. | :12:01.
The operators say they hope it will be running again on Wednesday. | :12:02. | :12:06.
A man who attempted to smuggle four people from Afghanistan | :12:07. | :12:08.
into Kent has been jailed for two and a half years. | :12:09. | :12:11.
Dwayne Lovelock was questioned by Border Force staff | :12:12. | :12:12.
at the Channel Tunnel in France, after his car was | :12:13. | :12:15.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson, | :12:20. | :12:25.
A 48-year-old man died at the scene in Maidstone | :12:26. | :12:29.
yesterday evening, while another man and a woman, | :12:30. | :12:31.
Peter Whittlesea is at the scene of the fire and | :12:32. | :12:34.
investigators have been at the scene all day today. | :12:35. | :12:41.
Peter Gummi investigators have been there all day? That is right. | :12:42. | :12:51.
Forensic teams and investigation units and the police have been here | :12:52. | :12:56.
all day. I'm going to show you footage which contains flashing | :12:57. | :13:01.
lights, so be careful. This shows the moment the emergency services | :13:02. | :13:04.
arrived and you can see smoke billowing from the back of the | :13:05. | :13:08.
property. This was the point where the road was closed off and it is | :13:09. | :13:12.
also where it emerged a man was still trapped inside. What have | :13:13. | :13:22.
neighbours had to say? One of them spoke to me and said she knew | :13:23. | :13:26.
something was wrong and could hear a fire alarm and also smoke was | :13:27. | :13:31.
billowing into her house. She knocked on the door and saw a man | :13:32. | :13:36.
who had burnt hair and burns on his arms as well. He said somebody was | :13:37. | :13:41.
trapped inside and the emergency services arrived and found him, but | :13:42. | :13:46.
he was then declared dead at the scene. Another remains in hospital | :13:47. | :13:50.
and tonight, 838-year-old man in police custody on suspicion of | :13:51. | :13:53.
arson. Thank you. It's coming up to quarter to seven, | :13:54. | :13:55.
this is our top story tonight: There are calls tonight | :13:56. | :13:58.
for an investigation into the conduct of two prospective | :13:59. | :14:00.
Labour candidates for Kent County Council, | :14:01. | :14:02.
after they raised party funds by selling off cosmetics | :14:03. | :14:04.
and toiletries that had been donated to charity | :14:05. | :14:06.
and were supposed to go If you have a story you think | :14:07. | :14:08.
we should be covering on South East Today, | :14:09. | :14:14.
we'd like to hear from you. And after a blustery and wet today, | :14:15. | :14:25.
we have more fun showers into tonight. I will have the details | :14:26. | :14:28.
later. If you have a story you think | :14:29. | :14:32.
we should be covering on South East Today, | :14:33. | :14:34.
we'd like to hear from you. You can call us on 0345 300 37 47, | :14:35. | :14:37.
or send us an e-mail to We are also on Facebook | :14:38. | :14:40.
or you can tweet us Alan Kingshott was born in Newhaven | :14:41. | :14:44.
and he's about to move back to the Sussex coast | :14:45. | :14:53.
to enjoy his retirement. But in recent years, he's been | :14:54. | :14:55.
living in the Tower of London as Chief Yeoman Warder, | :14:56. | :15:00.
effectively the Tower's So what does it take | :15:01. | :15:01.
to be a Yeoman Warder? Well, simply to be considered, | :15:02. | :15:12.
candidates must have spent at least 22 years in the Armed Forces | :15:13. | :15:15.
with a good conduct record, and have to have reached | :15:16. | :15:17.
the rank of Warrant Officer. As well as keeping | :15:18. | :15:20.
the Crown Jewels safe, duties include giving visitors | :15:21. | :15:22.
a guided tour, though training takes six months before they're | :15:23. | :15:24.
allowed to lead one. Our reporter Piers Hopkirk is live | :15:25. | :15:26.
at the Tower of London, and Piers, for Alan Kingshott, | :15:27. | :15:29.
retirement will bring an end to 45 That's right. The end of a pretty | :15:30. | :15:45.
illustrious career. Beefeaters such as Alan have lived and worked within | :15:46. | :15:51.
the 18 acres of the Tao of London since 1485. But at the end of the | :15:52. | :15:55.
week, he will be putting on that iconic uniform for the last time. -- | :15:56. | :15:58.
the Tao of London. -- When it's your final | :15:59. | :16:10.
time here at the Tower and it's after 19 years, | :16:11. | :16:12.
it is very emotional and very | :16:13. | :16:13.
surprising to me how my family pack the boxes for | :16:14. | :16:16.
the very last time. Although I've still got | :16:17. | :16:19.
a few more days left to go before I've completely | :16:20. | :16:24.
finished, it will be sad, My grandchildren were baptised | :16:25. | :16:26.
and my children were married here, so it has many | :16:27. | :16:36.
fond memories for us. As the Tower of London's | :16:37. | :16:41.
head Beefeater, these Tudor lodgings above the Tower's | :16:42. | :16:43.
main entrance have been home for The best bits for me are living | :16:44. | :16:45.
over the top of the gate and there's 2.8 million visitors | :16:46. | :17:00.
coming in and out, The loudest thing I'm going to hear | :17:01. | :17:02.
now when I go back to my house is probably a seagull | :17:03. | :17:10.
landing somewhere. As chief Yeoman here | :17:11. | :17:14.
at the tower, Alan's role is one part of an extraordinary | :17:15. | :17:20.
chain of tradition, Do you have weather | :17:21. | :17:23.
like this in Spain? The tower's nearly 940 | :17:24. | :17:28.
years old and I've only In comparison to that, | :17:29. | :17:38.
it is just a blip in history. But from my perspective, | :17:39. | :17:47.
being part of this iconic heritage site, | :17:48. | :17:49.
it has been absolutely fantastic. This Thursday, he will don | :17:50. | :17:51.
uniform for the final time and admits the relative | :17:52. | :17:53.
anonymity of retirement may just I shall just blend in | :17:54. | :17:55.
with everything within I will probably go and have a quick | :17:56. | :17:59.
coffee with my wife at home and just reflect | :18:00. | :18:04.
on the last 19 years. But while Alan may no longer | :18:05. | :18:07.
have the uniform, his name will remain at the Tower | :18:08. | :18:09.
for centuries to come. well, Alan's final days Thursday | :18:10. | :18:26.
before he heads home for the coast. In effect, you will be swapping | :18:27. | :18:28.
ravens for seagulls. His team had just | :18:29. | :18:37.
secured a fine away win. So when Crawley Town's media officer | :18:38. | :18:39.
Alex Stedman was invited into the Wycombe Wanderers dressing | :18:40. | :18:41.
room after Saturday's match, he might have wondered | :18:42. | :18:43.
what the defeated players But the 22-year-old | :18:44. | :18:45.
needn't have worried. Wycombe had discovered he was | :18:46. | :18:49.
fundraising for cancer research after his own diagnosis | :18:50. | :18:51.
of testicular cancer just a month ago and wanted | :18:52. | :18:53.
to give him football boots, shirts and gifts | :18:54. | :18:55.
to auction off to raise money. The moment the family football | :18:56. | :19:10.
embraced Alex Stedman. What we've done and we are grateful for the | :19:11. | :19:16.
donations, and I've heard there are other things coming... The | :19:17. | :19:19.
22-year-old was so nervous his knees were shaking. We will kick his | :19:20. | :19:28.
campaign off with a real bang. The media officer for Crawley town | :19:29. | :19:31.
football club suffers severe pain for months before his diagnoses, | :19:32. | :19:37.
following the surgical procedure that showed he had testicular | :19:38. | :19:41.
cancer. As soon as I heard the word, everything else became a blur. | :19:42. | :19:47.
Nothing went in. He was given the numbers and say now is going to do | :19:48. | :19:50.
the CT scan tomorrow and the blood tests, this that and the other. Alex | :19:51. | :19:59.
is raising money now. This former Arsenal striker also had the | :20:00. | :20:03.
condition. It was life changing, because the reaction I have got, | :20:04. | :20:06.
you're not going to forget it. I will not forget how I felt when I | :20:07. | :20:11.
was diagnosed and how I felt on Saturday and I will not forget this. | :20:12. | :20:17.
It is a life changing thing. Colleagues on the club are being | :20:18. | :20:24.
very supportive. He comes in, always happy, head held high. It's easy to | :20:25. | :20:34.
forget. He's always in good mood. And always good to have around. How | :20:35. | :20:40.
many people are affected by testicular cancer? In 2014, 2500 men | :20:41. | :20:48.
were diagnosed with it. 60 of those died. Survival rates beyond a decade | :20:49. | :20:55.
have risen to 98%. Alex says he's been promised more than 50 citations | :20:56. | :20:59.
from clubs across the Football League. Their aim is to raise 5000 | :21:00. | :21:05.
-- thousands of pounds for cancer sufferers. Tomorrow, he will cut his | :21:06. | :21:09.
hair short and next week, he begins chemotherapy treatment. | :21:10. | :21:15.
A year of cultural partnerships charting the links between Britain | :21:16. | :21:19.
and India is being launched by the Queen at Buckingham | :21:20. | :21:23.
Palace this evening and there'll be a starring | :21:24. | :21:25.
People in the Kent town will be taking part | :21:26. | :21:29.
in the Silk River project, celebrating the relationship | :21:30. | :21:30.
between communities living by the Thames | :21:31. | :21:34.
and those living by the Hooghly, a 160-mile long river | :21:35. | :21:36.
in Eastern India, that passes through the city of Kolkata. | :21:37. | :21:40.
They may be separated by 5,000 miles, by language and lifestyle, | :21:41. | :21:51.
but Gravesend on places like Kolkata in India both lie beside | :21:52. | :21:53.
great waterways which have both brought them | :21:54. | :21:57.
In Gravesend, the links between continents run deeper still. | :21:58. | :22:13.
A gurdwara is a place of worship for the Sikh faith. | :22:14. | :22:17.
Not in the heart of the Indian subcontinent, | :22:18. | :22:21.
but in the middle of Gravesend and my guide is the borough's first | :22:22. | :22:24.
We've got roughly 7,000-10,000 Sikhs here. | :22:25. | :22:31.
Some come to worship daily, some come on Sundays | :22:32. | :22:36.
Because this is one of the largest outside of India, so a lot | :22:37. | :22:45.
of people will cross the country to visit here. | :22:46. | :22:50.
It's a holy place but also offers education and practical | :22:51. | :22:52.
help, including as part of the Sikh culture, | :22:53. | :22:56.
food cooked daily for anyone who needs it. | :22:57. | :22:58.
It will be a key venue in this year's events to | :22:59. | :23:01.
I think it is a true testament to community | :23:02. | :23:10.
links and cohesion and we've done so well here. | :23:11. | :23:13.
The community are so accepting of us and we | :23:14. | :23:16.
Many Indians who live in Kent, they feel as British as they | :23:17. | :23:22.
As a project about rivers in India and here, no finer | :23:23. | :23:29.
example, we would argue, that that of | :23:30. | :23:31.
features of Kent that perhaps many of us take for granted. | :23:32. | :23:39.
The experience of journeying along the river | :23:40. | :23:40.
portrayed in art, film and photography | :23:41. | :23:42.
will be at the heart of | :23:43. | :23:45.
At the moment, we are at the planning | :23:46. | :23:49.
stage, so there are opportunities for everyone to get involved. | :23:50. | :23:51.
Schools, residents, community groups, it is about throwing all of | :23:52. | :23:54.
the ideas into the pot of what we have would like to create | :23:55. | :23:57.
People along this river in Kolkata will be | :23:58. | :24:02.
What an extraordinary day! But he won't get much better I'm afraid. It | :24:03. | :24:28.
is tame blustery and earlier we had intense, thundery downpours. They | :24:29. | :24:32.
will continue for a time through tonight. Lots of rain and it was | :24:33. | :24:37.
very blustery. Over the next couple of days, particularly at the end of | :24:38. | :24:41.
Wednesday, intense rain and it feels cold. The reason for that is because | :24:42. | :24:52.
some bitter, westerly winds. A bit of Heol potentially mixed in with | :24:53. | :24:57.
the rain and also fund. Eventually, though scattered intense showers | :24:58. | :25:01.
will ease off toward the east, but if he was up early tomorrow, along | :25:02. | :25:06.
the coast, we will see a wet and blustery picture. Because of the | :25:07. | :25:10.
winds, temperatures hovering above freezing, but will feel bitterly | :25:11. | :25:16.
cold as we start tomorrow. We have the low pressure area and stop the | :25:17. | :25:20.
day for the most part dry in the morning, but by the afternoon, this | :25:21. | :25:26.
weather front and the winds pick-up. The rain will be intense. First | :25:27. | :25:31.
thing, scattered and wintry showers, dry in the morning, and sunshine | :25:32. | :25:36.
around, but by the afternoon, the cloud thickens and the intense rain | :25:37. | :25:41.
moves in from the West. Temperatures over 7-8 , but with the wind and | :25:42. | :25:45.
rain, it will feel colder. On Tuesday into Thursday, we see that | :25:46. | :25:52.
Easter would wind moving in. But because of the strength of that | :25:53. | :25:57.
wind, we should stay frost free. A cold feel for Wednesday, but for the | :25:58. | :26:02.
most part, temperatures at around 3-4 . We start dry, does not stay | :26:03. | :26:08.
that way, as you head to the day on Wednesday, further rain, moving up | :26:09. | :26:12.
from the south and once again, temperatures reaching highs of | :26:13. | :26:17.
9-10 , but with the wind. -- but with the wind, it will feel colder. | :26:18. | :26:24.
Unsettled on Thursday. Mostly dry. Blustery, then further heavy rain is | :26:25. | :26:29.
expected toward Friday and temperatures 7-8 , feeling cooler. | :26:30. | :26:33.
Looking toward the weekend, we start to see some respite. The winds is | :26:34. | :26:38.
off and there should be some brightness. For the next couple of | :26:39. | :26:43.
days, we will see intense, thundery and potentially hail storms through | :26:44. | :26:46.
tonight. By Friday, the rain returns. Best chance brightness | :26:47. | :26:53.
Thursday. At least it will be filling up the reservoirs! | :26:54. | :26:55.
Before we go, let's recap tonight's top stories: | :26:56. | :26:57.
An investigation's begun into what's being called the biggest | :26:58. | :26:59.
blunder in the history of the Oscars. | :27:00. | :27:02.
The award for Best Picture was accidentally given | :27:03. | :27:04.
to the musical, La La Land when another film, | :27:05. | :27:06.
There are calls tonight for an investigation | :27:07. | :27:10.
into the conduct of two prospective Labour candidates for | :27:11. | :27:12.
Kent County Council, after they raised party fronts | :27:13. | :27:14.
by selling off cosmetics and toiletries that had been | :27:15. | :27:16.
donated to charity and were supposed to go | :27:17. | :27:18.
And a woman from Tonbridge who lost her leg in a motorbike | :27:19. | :27:24.
accident five years ago says she's been left unable to work | :27:25. | :27:27.
and is dependant on benefits because the government's new way | :27:28. | :27:29.
of assessing disability benefits means she no longer qualifies | :27:30. | :27:32.
I will be back with more on that later. Goodbye. | :27:33. | :27:54.
To be in the Lords, you have to be punctual... | :27:55. | :27:56.
literally have to slam the door in somebody's face. | :27:57. | :28:02. |
