Here, on BBC One, it's time for the news where you are.

:00:00.:00:00.

Today's main headlines in the South-East:

:00:07.:00:08.

Sussex police release CCTV of a carjacker luring a 72-year-old

:00:09.:00:10.

woman out of her vehicle before stealing it.

:00:11.:00:15.

Moving the mountain - the refuse tip that's blighted

:00:16.:00:20.

the lives of Kent residents for years is finally being cleared.

:00:21.:00:31.

After a wet, mild day, the sunshine is back again for tomorrow.

:00:32.:00:42.

Sussex police are tonight hunting a carjacker who lured a 72-year-old

:00:43.:00:46.

woman out of her vehicle before making his escape in it.

:00:47.:00:50.

The shocking moment at a supermarket in Heathfield was caught on CCTV.

:00:51.:00:57.

She got out of the car after he offered to help her

:00:58.:01:00.

with a leak, then he drove away hitting her on the leg.

:01:01.:01:02.

10:30am in a quiet market town in East Sussex.

:01:03.:01:06.

This 72-year-old woman is about to set off for home

:01:07.:01:08.

in her Ford Focus after some shopping, when she is stopped by

:01:09.:01:11.

He persuades her out of the car, saying her bonnet is leaking.

:01:12.:01:17.

Next thing she knows, he's driving off with it,

:01:18.:01:20.

Thankfully, she was physically relatively unhurt.

:01:21.:01:24.

The knock to the knee, she will be struggling with it.

:01:25.:01:26.

It is obviously, like you say, very callous and she has taken this

:01:27.:01:29.

chap on his best intentions that he was trying to help

:01:30.:01:32.

her and has been conned and had her car stolen as a result.

:01:33.:01:35.

The pensioner was not badly physically hurt,

:01:36.:01:37.

but left shocked and frightened and people in Heathfield

:01:38.:01:39.

who we showed the footage to today were horrified that this could have

:01:40.:01:42.

I think that's cheeky, that he's got the...

:01:43.:01:51.

I think that's terrible, isn't it, in this day and age?

:01:52.:01:58.

I suppose, now that we know, it's trying not to get

:01:59.:02:02.

Nothing ever happens in Heathfield, fortunately.

:02:03.:02:10.

But according to the AA, this is just the latest in a spate

:02:11.:02:17.

The kind of episode that happened here with this woman is the kind

:02:18.:02:22.

of thing that another car might sometimes bump into the back

:02:23.:02:26.

of your car, you then get out of the car and the criminals jump

:02:27.:02:29.

It's worth being alert and if you're suspicious at all dial 999.

:02:30.:02:34.

The man was described by the victim as being in his mid-40s and stocky.

:02:35.:02:37.

Her car was found a few days later abandoned seven

:02:38.:02:43.

Sussex Police hope this CCTV will prompt someone to come forward

:02:44.:02:49.

with information and are advising people to be careful

:02:50.:02:52.

about not getting out of their cars without their keys.

:02:53.:03:00.

Ian, do we know any more about the victim?

:03:01.:03:06.

We know that the victim is 72, she lives locally and that she does not

:03:07.:03:25.

want identity disclosed. However, Sussex Police said the GE is very

:03:26.:03:29.

pleased that the story is being covered this evening and that the

:03:30.:03:34.

CCTV footage is in the public domain and she hopes someone will come

:03:35.:03:38.

forward with information. Physically, we have been told that

:03:39.:03:43.

she is well and she didn't need hospital treatment, but as you can

:03:44.:03:47.

well imagine, she has been very much shaken by what has happened.

:03:48.:03:48.

she has been very much shaken by what has happened.

:03:49.:03:51.

The NHS trust responsible for hospitals in East Kent

:03:52.:03:53.

is to come out of special measures after nearly three years,

:03:54.:03:55.

after an inspection by the health watchdog.

:03:56.:03:57.

It has improved in areas including Accident Emergency,

:03:58.:03:59.

It no longer has any areas rated as inadequate,

:04:00.:04:08.

but the Care Quality Commission says it still requires improvement.

:04:09.:04:11.

Our Health correspondent Mark Norman reports.

:04:12.:04:16.

Joyce has had an MRI scan and is getting a course

:04:17.:04:19.

of antibiotics and she's an example of new systems introduced

:04:20.:04:22.

by the hospital trust, and highlighted by inspectors,

:04:23.:04:24.

which allows the hospital to give patient care more quickly and get

:04:25.:04:30.

them home rather than admit them to a ward.

:04:31.:04:32.

They've seen a decision maker reviewing these

:04:33.:04:36.

patients at the front door, assessing their clinical needs

:04:37.:04:38.

and often trying to help manage their conditions

:04:39.:04:41.

without the need to be admitted into a hospital bed.

:04:42.:04:44.

In the past, inspectors have also strongly criticised the trust

:04:45.:04:47.

for not coordinating their three acute hospital sites.

:04:48.:04:52.

This is how the trust use technology.

:04:53.:04:55.

These are the three hospitals in East Kent.

:04:56.:04:58.

The trust as a total looks at patients coming

:04:59.:05:01.

into Accident Emergency, admitted into patient care,

:05:02.:05:03.

the number of patients who are, perhaps, in a bed who needn't be

:05:04.:05:06.

who could be transferred out, and it's updated minute by minute

:05:07.:05:09.

and used by staff throughout all three hospitals to try and make

:05:10.:05:12.

sure the trust is working as efficiently as possible.

:05:13.:05:17.

So, yes, inspectors have recognised these improvements and even

:05:18.:05:19.

recommended East Kent comes out of special measures.

:05:20.:05:23.

Low staffing levels, patients waiting too long for cancer

:05:24.:05:28.

There's still a long way to go for the trust and we made the trust

:05:29.:05:34.

aware that there are areas in maternity, notably,

:05:35.:05:37.

in terms of their staffing levels, and also with their end-of-life

:05:38.:05:40.

Care Pathway, which is still very early in its implementation.

:05:41.:05:43.

Really, the hard work has been done by thousands of staff right

:05:44.:05:46.

across the organisation and that work will carry on.

:05:47.:05:49.

It's been a huge amount of work so far, but there is a lot more work

:05:50.:05:52.

to do and that work will absolutely carry on so we can provide even

:05:53.:05:56.

better services to patients right across East Kent.

:05:57.:05:58.

Late this afternoon, I witnessed more new ways of working.

:05:59.:06:00.

On-the-ward meetings with various organisations

:06:01.:06:03.

including social care, physios, doctors, and all led

:06:04.:06:06.

And you wanted to say about the care you've had today...

:06:07.:06:13.

Our reporter Peter Whittlesea has been following this story.

:06:14.:06:25.

Despite this news, the trust still has improvements

:06:26.:06:27.

This is a recommendation, so the recommendation is that the come out

:06:28.:06:40.

of special measures, and they will get help with the financial

:06:41.:06:43.

problems, and the winter problems that they have. The number of people

:06:44.:06:48.

going to accident and emergency is ridiculously busy, even on a weekday

:06:49.:06:54.

afternoon. Senior medical staff say this is a significant milestone. It

:06:55.:06:59.

will help recruit and retain staff. They accept there is still work to

:07:00.:07:03.

do but they think that the trust has turned the tide.

:07:04.:07:04.

For the last five years, people on Cornwall Drive

:07:05.:07:08.

in St Paul s Cray have been blighted by an enormous pile

:07:09.:07:11.

Gathered from across Kent, it stood 40 feet tall,

:07:12.:07:14.

with the constant threat of spontaneous fires, foul smells,

:07:15.:07:16.

dust and vermin on the area, but after a long-running legal

:07:17.:07:19.

battle, work to remove the rubbish finally got underway last month.

:07:20.:07:25.

Residents say getting rid of the rubbish feels

:07:26.:07:27.

Our Environment correspondent, Yvette Austin, has

:07:28.:07:30.

Up to 30 lorry-loads a day are being taken away.

:07:31.:07:37.

It's the legacy of Waste4Fuel, recycling company that failed to do

:07:38.:07:41.

what the Environment Agency ordered and went into liquidation.

:07:42.:07:45.

After living with the blight for more than five years,

:07:46.:07:48.

You get a lot of dust still coming up and the smell can be

:07:49.:07:55.

But, anyway, we're happy that i's going, that's the main thing.

:07:56.:08:01.

At its worst, the pile was 40 feet high and 60 feet wide.

:08:02.:08:08.

The owners were taking money for rubbish arriving,

:08:09.:08:11.

but not bearing the cost of its recycling and removal.

:08:12.:08:14.

Local people, like Lesley Easton, campaigned for action.

:08:15.:08:18.

He suffers from breathing problems and says now rats

:08:19.:08:20.

They got in our cupboard, ate all our teabags, sugar,

:08:21.:08:26.

Originally, the pile was estimated to be 20,000 tonnes of rubbish,

:08:27.:08:34.

but knowing what it looked like initially and knowing how

:08:35.:08:37.

much has gone and how much is still to go,

:08:38.:08:39.

there could have been nearer to 30,000 tonnes.

:08:40.:08:45.

It's taken months of negotiation to secure a deal to allow

:08:46.:08:47.

Bromley Council has now taken ownership of the site

:08:48.:08:51.

and the Environment Agency is paying 90% of the ?2.7 million

:08:52.:08:54.

Attention is turning to what will happen to the land,

:08:55.:09:01.

which is green belt and next to a Kent Wildlife

:09:02.:09:03.

We could perhaps have a small education centre here.

:09:04.:09:07.

We have the lakes of special scientific interest directly behind.

:09:08.:09:09.

Somehow work with a charity, a nature-based charity,

:09:10.:09:13.

The clearance was due to finish mid-January,

:09:14.:09:18.

but will probably take longer because of the extent of the job.

:09:19.:09:27.

Charlton missed out on a chance to climb into the top ten

:09:28.:09:30.

We'll have the national weather in a moment.

:09:31.:09:44.

First, here's the forecast for the South-East with Rachel.

:09:45.:09:46.

Good evening. It has been a rather miserable day. We have been seeing

:09:47.:09:54.

brain, lots of cloud but it has been mild, but top temperatures of 11 or

:09:55.:09:57.

12 degrees. I think the brain will 12 degrees. I think the brain will

:09:58.:10:02.

intensify for the first part of this evening, but eventually it does

:10:03.:10:06.

clear and banged that we have clearer skies and temperatures Rudi

:10:07.:10:07.

Voller Norway. It is a chilly the Voller Norway. It is a chilly

:10:08.:10:11.

day on Thursday, loose in rural day on Thursday, loose in rural

:10:12.:10:18.

spots of two or three degrees. So a chilly start and initially there

:10:19.:10:19.

will be missed and fog. Quite a will be missed and fog. Quite a

:10:20.:10:21.

different date tomorrow to today's, we will see decent spells of

:10:22.:10:26.

sunshine, gentle winds. Temperatures by the afternoon of reaching 8

:10:27.:10:31.

degrees, so down on the values we had today, but much more pleasant

:10:32.:10:37.

feeling afternoon. Into Friday, clearer skies, temperatures falling

:10:38.:10:42.

away to two or three degrees in more rural spots, four or five along the

:10:43.:10:46.

coast. We start the day on a dry note. The winds will be picking up

:10:47.:10:50.

as we had through the day on Friday we will be seeing some rain, top

:10:51.:10:56.

temperatures of 11 or 12 degrees. Towards the Christmas weekend, very

:10:57.:11:00.

windy and mild, but mostly dry. By here is a closer look at the

:11:01.:11:02.

National good for us. Mild by the time we

:11:03.:11:03.

reach Christmas Day.

:11:04.:11:06.
