Good evening. for the news where you are. | :00:07. | :00:10.
As we heard on the News at Ten tonight - for 18 months, | :00:11. | :00:13.
people in west Sussex have been waiting to find out | :00:14. | :00:15.
what went so horribly wrong at Shoreham Airshow that lead | :00:16. | :00:18.
Sussex Police are now reviewing the Air Accident Investigations | :00:19. | :00:24.
Branch report and the coroner has set a new date of 20th June | :00:25. | :00:27.
That day in August 2015 left eleven families and a town devastated. | :00:28. | :00:31.
Today Juliette Parkin went to speak to residents in Shoreham. | :00:32. | :00:43.
Remembering those who lost their lives. The tragedy of August 2015 | :00:44. | :00:50.
will forever be part of this Shoreham community but today at | :00:51. | :00:56.
least some answers. I think in the light of today's report, I think the | :00:57. | :01:01.
response would be sadness with a mixture of anger. There's an element | :01:02. | :01:10.
of anger. And given that do you think the airshow should retire and? | :01:11. | :01:14.
My personal opinion is I don't think it will. I think we very quickly | :01:15. | :01:20.
need of response from the police as to whether there will be a | :01:21. | :01:24.
prosecution and if not it needs to be very transparently and fully | :01:25. | :01:27.
explain to do everybody and after that the coroner can get on with her | :01:28. | :01:31.
important work and the families can get some sort of closure. As the | :01:32. | :01:36.
report findings were revealed today, people in the town gave us the | :01:37. | :01:42.
reaction. It has confirmed people's worries about the airshow because | :01:43. | :01:46.
they have always been there. I've got a feeling there won't be another | :01:47. | :01:51.
in Shoreham. I can't see it happening because it brings the | :01:52. | :01:57.
memories back again. It is still an everybody's minds and even the | :01:58. | :02:03.
football teams still carry the memory of people affected. Among | :02:04. | :02:08.
them, Worthing United. Two of their players died in the crash on their | :02:09. | :02:13.
way to a match. Who would have thought that an aircraft involved in | :02:14. | :02:18.
the display would crash? Absolutely unheard of and shouldn't have been | :02:19. | :02:21.
allowed because he shouldn't have been flying over that road. We we | :02:22. | :02:28.
have their names on our kit and they will always be remembered by us as | :02:29. | :02:33.
great footballers and brilliant friends. Shortly after the disaster | :02:34. | :02:37.
at the toll bridge became a focal point for an outpouring of emotion | :02:38. | :02:40.
from the surrounding community and beyond. One local artist was so | :02:41. | :02:46.
moved by what he saw he turned his grief into art. What touched me was | :02:47. | :02:53.
the community coming together. I wanted to paint a picture that I | :02:54. | :02:59.
could give to everybody involved. Such a feeling of love and support | :03:00. | :03:01.
for all those who have lost friends and relatives. The town has | :03:02. | :03:08.
gradually recovered. Obviously life has to go on. In response to the | :03:09. | :03:13.
report the Shoreham year show organisers said it had been an | :03:14. | :03:17.
important part of the community of 26 years. They said they had always | :03:18. | :03:21.
worked hard to make sure the event was safe and successful and said the | :03:22. | :03:26.
report will require further analysis and reflection. People here were | :03:27. | :03:30.
divided on its future. This community it seems will never forget | :03:31. | :03:35.
what happened here. The victims and their families very much in people's | :03:36. | :03:36.
hearts and minds today. Eastbourne residents have been | :03:37. | :03:40.
voting on a controversial scheme The borough council wants to put | :03:41. | :03:42.
3,000 of the 4,000 acres of down land that it owns, | :03:43. | :03:47.
up for sale as farms to raise But there have been | :03:48. | :03:50.
protests against the plan. Head teachers of primary | :03:51. | :03:57.
and secondary schools in East Sussex have united to campaign | :03:58. | :04:00.
for more funding. They say budget cuts could mean | :04:01. | :04:01.
shorter school weeks The county is also looking | :04:02. | :04:04.
at joining with West Sussex, Essex and Cornwall heads | :04:05. | :04:07.
in an attempt to secure more We are looking at cuts to the | :04:08. | :04:28.
student experience, whether that is curriculum pastoral support to | :04:29. | :04:30.
extracurricular activities right across the board. They will have to | :04:31. | :04:37.
look at provisions that are the cause of great pride for students | :04:38. | :04:38.
and parents. She claimed she needed oxygen | :04:39. | :04:39.
to breathe and a wheelchair to go outside, but former civil servant | :04:40. | :04:42.
Lisa White was enjoying luxury cruises with her husband funded | :04:43. | :04:44.
by a ?152,000 benefit fraud. Investigators found footage | :04:45. | :04:47.
of Mrs White dancing around the cafe Today she sobbed in court | :04:48. | :04:49.
as she was jailed for 18 months - her husband got a nine | :04:50. | :04:53.
month suspended sentence. This footage shows Lisa White | :04:54. | :04:55.
singing and dancing. But qualifying for ?115 | :04:56. | :05:16.
of benefits each week, she'd told the council she couldn't | :05:17. | :05:18.
walk without a stick. And needed an oxygen tank | :05:19. | :05:20.
to regulate her breathing. She even told them she couldn't | :05:21. | :05:22.
lift kitchen equipment, but was running a cafe | :05:23. | :05:25.
in Broadstairs and I'm amazed she didn't get caught | :05:26. | :05:26.
a lot sooner, to be honest. Although living and working | :05:27. | :05:48.
in Thanet, she claimed she shared a council house with her mother | :05:49. | :05:58.
in south London. Greenwich Council became suspicious | :05:59. | :06:08.
because her husband, who is also her carer, | :06:09. | :06:10.
was registered at an Surveillance carried out by fraud | :06:11. | :06:12.
investigators proved conclusive. Her husband Andrew White was found | :06:13. | :06:15.
guilty of aiding and abetting, but one former neighbour claims | :06:16. | :06:17.
Mrs White had been very ill. She certainly deserved to be | :06:18. | :06:20.
supported, and the reason they bought this in the first | :06:21. | :06:22.
instance is that he thought Mrs White was jailed for 18 months, | :06:23. | :06:25.
her husband received Will be here in a moment | :06:26. | :06:29.
with the national weather forecast but first let's get the picture | :06:30. | :06:37.
in the South East Good evening. A wet start for the | :06:38. | :06:51.
day, a drier picture in the afternoon, first thing some rain and | :06:52. | :06:53.
it brightens up by the afternoon. Feeling mild. Wet and windy by | :06:54. | :07:02.
Sunday. We eventually see some scattered band that time is heavy | :07:03. | :07:05.
and thundery showers. Overnight temperature as a result only | :07:06. | :07:12.
dropping to around 6-7. Wet first thing but very quickly we see the | :07:13. | :07:15.
rain eased eastwards and behind it some sunshine. The wind eases off | :07:16. | :07:20.
and by the afternoon the temperature reaching a height of 9-10. As I | :07:21. | :07:26.
mentioned, not blasting and at times wet and windy. Here is the outlook | :07:27. | :07:29.
and a closer look Good evening, mixed fortunes this | :07:30. | :07:41.
weekend. Today we saw a fair share of rain. This is the view one of our | :07:42. | :07:47.
weather watchers in Doncaster. Not particularly inspiring. This weekend | :07:48. | :07:51.
there will be some rain, but some of us will get away with a dry start. | :07:52. | :07:58.
This is the satellite and a lovely day in northern Scotland. But cloud | :07:59. | :08:06.
and rain and thunder and lightning in this area. Our main area of rain | :08:07. | :08:14.
is stuck across Northern Ireland and Scotland. Some snow over higher | :08:15. | :08:21.
ground. And windy. Four or five degrees in Glasgow and | :08:22. | :08:22. |
