Questions have been raised

about whether Sussex Police

could have stopped a violent drunk

from murdering a man

in a row over £40.

The force is reviewing its handling

of the case after Duncan Hearsey

from Shoreham was jailed

for a minimum of 21 years

Holding his jeans, with blood from

the victim, CCTV footage shows

Duncan Hearsey walking around, at

one point stopping to shadow-box.

Just minutes before, he had attacked

Alan Creasey. Kicking him to death.

That was after apparently demanding

£40 for gardening. Police had

received a series of telephone calls

from two pubs and Aqaba job,

reporting his facility. Police

initially called on three separate

occasions, by people concerned over

Duncan Hearsey. Then, Alan Creasey

called police. Police attended, but

left, advising Alan Creasey to what

his doors. They returned, to find

Alan Creasey seriously injured. CCTV

shows Homer Griffey had returned to

his home after the police had left,

carrying out the attack. Sussex

Police holding an internal

investigation into what happened and

if lessons can be learned.

We need

to investigate, to see if the police

have heard in any way... It as a

local investigation and they will be

investigating to see if we did

everything that we could.

And

everything reasonable. Alan

Creasey's neighbours described him

as troubling.

He has been a nuisance

to the neighbourhood. He always

created chaos. He was our man

looking for a fight.

I cannot see

how the police have got any blame.

They were looking for Duncan

Hearsey, telling him to lock doors.

Duncan Hearsey was jailed for 21

years. Detectives described it as

tragically unfortunately was not

arrested sooner. The professional

standards department are going to

make their own judgment.

Well, our reporter Claudia Sermbezis

joins me in the studio.

Claudia, why are Sussex

Police carrying out

their own investigation?

They have basically been told by the

Independent Police Complaints

Commission. They have decided not to

do a thorough investigation. Sussex

Police have their own investigations

department. That is going to look

closely at that, looking to see if

they should have done things

differently, and we'll see if any

lessons can be learned.

The pregnant partner of a mechanic

crushed to death by a car in Kent

says she's heartbroken that she'll

have to raise their unborn

child without him.

22-year-old Ashley King died

as he was working at a garage

in Folkestone last Thursday.

Both Kent Police and the Health and

Safety Executive are investigating.

Haley Hancock, who is five months

pregnant, says its "been a living

nightmare" since she was told

Ashley had died.

exclusive report.

In just a few months, Ashley King

would have been celebrating the

birth of his daughter. Instead, his

family struggling to come to terms

with the fact he is never coming

home.

The Hall Street, just no life.

And it was such a tragedy, no Ash. I

was looking at my messages, and I

have had nothing after that. When

his daughter asked about him, her

dad loved her so much, he died

trying.

Ashley King was working for

an automotive company, in Folkestone

when the accident happened last

Thursday. Kent Police said no

criminal investigation currently,

office is preparing a report for the

Coroner which will be in the past to

the Health and Safety Executive,

also investigating.

I have never

been one to do the blame game, it is

just sad that this has happened. We

need to take whatever we can from

his inspiration just to carry on.

Ashley really tried to get on, brush

himself down.

He went to work that

day, thinking he was going to see

his family. Do all the normal

things.

He wanted to provide for

you. Obviously, I have lost him

doing this.

Tonight, a week after

his death, friends and family came

together at the local park to let

off balloons. They said they are

determined to celebrate his life

even though it has been cut short.

Police have launched a murder

investigation after the death

of a pub landlord in Folkestone.

58-year-old Joe Daniels

was found with gunshot

wounds in the Red Cow Pub

in Foord Road yesterday morning.

Police are appealing for motorists

with dashboard cameras

who were around Red Cow between 8:30

and 11:30 to come forward.

The Sevenoaks MP Sir Michael Fallon

has spoken in Parliament

for the first time since he resigned

from the Cabinet.

Earlier this month he stood down

as Defence Secretary over

sexual harassment claims,

admitting that his previous conduct

towards women fell below

"acceptable standards".

Speaking during a Commons

debate on the Budget,

he urged fellow his MPs to be more

positive about the UK's

prospects after Brexit.

Hundreds of lectures were cancelled

today at the University of Brighton

after teaching staff walked

out on strike.

It's part of a dispute over

compulsory redundancies and comes

after 90 staff left voluntarily

in September to cut costs.

As our eduction Ccorrespondent

Lauren Moss reports,

there are also concerns about more

campus closures in East Sussex.

Striking to see jobs, lecturers

picking up placards.

To compulsory

redundancies, it is two too many.

University management seems to be

indicating it wants to slim down the

University, we expect it could be

many more occasions when we have to

defend people's jobs.

This is the

latest protest over the running of

the University. Last year, walk-outs

about the 2019 closure of the

Hastings campus. Since then, 90

staff have left voluntarily.

Lecturers said the workload has

increased. If these redundancies

go-ahead it could be more knock-on

effects.

The rationalisation of the

spread out nature of the site, that

could mean a serious threat to some

of the outliying areas.

85% of the

union voted in favour of the

striking. Now lecturers in south

Dublin and none tomorrow either when

a similar walk-out takes place. The

university said the strike is not

justified or an entry as students.

It insists it is working hard to

resolve the situation with members

of staff. Students divided on the

action being necessary.

I do not

think strikes should affect their

education. What they are protesting

has nothing to do with us.

It is sad

that the university is not

listening. Students, we are standing

with them. We hope the university

starts to listen.

If it is a small

inconvenience just now, it is good

to be long-term inconvenience.

Nobody backing down, the deadlock

likely to cause more disruption.
