Hello, I'm Sally Taylor. Welcome to South Today. In tonight's | :00:05. | :00:07.
programme... Convictions quashed - the men | :00:07. | :00:10.
behind the Lapland New Forest attraction win their appeal. | :00:10. | :00:13.
The illegal tip which has caused a real stink, and cost a water firm | :00:13. | :00:17.
500,000. A sister's devastation as her | :00:17. | :00:25.
brother loses his fight to be freed from Broadmoor hospital. | :00:25. | :00:30.
It is not like we're saying that let him walk out of broad work out | :00:30. | :00:33.
the gates, we want him to have help but he it is not going to happen in | :00:34. | :00:36.
broad were. And their own theatre of dreams may | :00:36. | :00:42.
have been shattered, but Aldershot fans still had a night to remember. | :00:42. | :00:47.
The crowd, the actors here, the whole thing was fantastic. -- the | :00:47. | :00:57.

The two brothers behind the failed Lapland New Forest theme park who | :00:57. | :01:00.
were found guilty of misleading thousands of customers, have had | :01:00. | :01:03.
their convictions quashed in the court of appeal. Victor and Henry | :01:03. | :01:06.
Mears opened the attraction in the winter of 2008 at Matchams Park | :01:06. | :01:11.
near Ringwood. But within days it was closed amid anger from members | :01:11. | :01:15.
of the public. The brothers, from Brighton, were jailed earlier this | :01:15. | :01:20.
year for 13 months each. But today those convictions were thrown out | :01:21. | :01:25.
by three appeal court judges. The court heard that the appeal was | :01:25. | :01:28.
based entirely on one juror who was found to be sending texts to her | :01:28. | :01:31.
fiance in the public gallery during the original trial, which cost | :01:31. | :01:37.
about 350,000. Our reporter, Joe Campbell, was in court today and | :01:38. | :01:42.
joins me now. What evidence was put before the judges? | :01:42. | :01:48.
People may well remember the Lapland at New Forest Experience. | :01:48. | :01:53.
Families who went there found something of a Christmas cracker, | :01:53. | :01:57.
and it turned out to be something of a damp squib. There was no real | :01:57. | :02:03.
dispute that people were disappointed. Today's appealed | :02:03. | :02:08.
pound on the final days of a nine week-long trial at the Crown Court | :02:08. | :02:12.
earlier this year. It came to public attention that one of the | :02:12. | :02:16.
members of the jury had been sending and receiving texts from | :02:16. | :02:21.
her fiance and the public gallery. He had been in that gallery at | :02:21. | :02:26.
times they jury itself had been sent to a record, when prejudicial | :02:26. | :02:30.
issues like the right to Mears's long list of convictions for | :02:30. | :02:34.
previous dishonesty has -- dishonesty had been brought up in | :02:34. | :02:41.
the absence of the jury. During the judge's summing up he | :02:41. | :02:45.
sent a message saying simply, guilty, to his fiancee in the jury | :02:45. | :02:51.
box. Followers say at that stage the case should have been stopped | :02:51. | :02:57.
straight away. One of the Appeal Court judges said it seemed at the | :02:57. | :03:00.
end of that name week-long trial people just wanted to get things | :03:00. | :03:05.
done. He said, if the text such come to | :03:05. | :03:09.
the attention of the judge three days in rather than nine weeks, | :03:09. | :03:14.
nobody could answer that. What happened with the decision to | :03:14. | :03:19.
quash the decision? There was no real reaction in court. | :03:19. | :03:23.
The victor rain, the only one of the two brothers who was there, | :03:23. | :03:28.
left shortly after and. The defence lawyer said justice had been done. | :03:28. | :03:31.
We spoke to him as he left court and he had nothing to say as we | :03:31. | :03:37.
tried to ask him about his reaction. Mr Mears, obviously a great success, | :03:37. | :03:47.
:03:47. | :03:47. | ||
what would you say today? Mr Mears, do you have any reaction? | :03:47. | :03:50.
What to Dorset County Council's Trading Standards team, who brought | :03:50. | :03:55.
their case, have to say? They said they would not be asking | :03:55. | :04:00.
for a retrial. They said in a statement they were very | :04:00. | :04:04.
disappointed and went on to say, we recognise it would not be in the | :04:04. | :04:14.
:04:14. | :04:15. | ||
public interest to request a The judges have said that two Mears | :04:15. | :04:18.
brothers will get a full explanation for today's ruling in a | :04:18. | :04:23.
short time, and that could be a factor in terms of whether they are | :04:23. | :04:26.
allowed to request compensation for the time they have already spent in | :04:26. | :04:36.
:04:36. | :04:42. | ||
prison. The jury and the trial of the mind | :04:42. | :04:45.
suspected of killing Jo Yeates has been sent home for the night. | :04:45. | :04:49.
Vincent Tabak denies murder but admits manslaughter of the 25-year- | :04:50. | :04:57.
old. The jury will continue deliberations tomorrow. | :04:57. | :05:00.
Two men have pleaded guilty to a 3 million fraud. Andrew Jelley and | :05:01. | :05:03.
Joseph Nunn took money from more than 20 people, telling them they | :05:04. | :05:06.
would invest it in property. But Portsmouth Crown Court heard that | :05:06. | :05:09.
victims were left out of pocket, in some cases running into hundreds of | :05:10. | :05:12.
thousands of pounds. Roisin Gauson was in court today and joins us | :05:13. | :05:18.
from Portsmouth. The Crown Prosecution spent the | :05:18. | :05:21.
entire morning was into details of 24 individuals who had signed up to | :05:21. | :05:25.
a property investment fund run by the defendants, Andrew Jelley and | :05:25. | :05:30.
Joseph Nunn. They offer higher rates of interest, sometimes up to | :05:30. | :05:34.
40 % over two years. Sadly, that was an offer that proved too good | :05:34. | :05:39.
to be true. A premises that inspired confidence. | :05:39. | :05:42.
Andrew Jelley and Joseph Nunn set up their property company and run | :05:42. | :05:47.
it from the Royal Naval Club. They offered investment opportunities to | :05:47. | :05:51.
former clients and family friends with a minimum of 10 % interest | :05:51. | :05:59.
guaranteed. Many were tempted, the public gallery was packed with them. | :05:59. | :06:03.
Several sold their Houses to the company under deals that a lead and | :06:03. | :06:10.
to continue living there with little or no rent. | :06:10. | :06:14.
While the investors got their properties were paid for, Andrew | :06:14. | :06:20.
Jelley and Joseph Nunn kicked out mortgages against them. | :06:20. | :06:24.
Joseph Nunn alone spent more than 3 million on gabbling website in | :06:24. | :06:28.
less than three years. Families who have invested their life savings in | :06:28. | :06:32.
the schemes were facing eviction. Their homes were repossessed. | :06:32. | :06:36.
At I am still quite angry about the whole thing, not for myself but | :06:36. | :06:39.
other people. There have been people who have died without | :06:39. | :06:46.
getting money back, old friends of mine. Lies, lies, and war lies. I | :06:46. | :06:51.
find the whole thing despicable. Despite financial difficulties, the | :06:51. | :06:55.
pair in cull would -- encourage more people to sign up, including | :06:55. | :07:00.
Andrew Jelley's late father who eventually died. Any money that | :07:00. | :07:04.
came and was immediately paid out two of the unrest -- investors who | :07:04. | :07:08.
were awed cash. This man tried to leave the scheme | :07:08. | :07:13.
in 2,000 added. He is still owed 144,000. | :07:13. | :07:19.
There is an old saying, buyer beware, I hope I had paid heed to | :07:19. | :07:24.
that. -- I wish I had. The defence lawyer said his client | :07:24. | :07:30.
was not aware of his partner's gambling. He played the lesser role | :07:30. | :07:36.
in the conspiracy. Speaking for Joseph Nunn, his defender said at | :07:36. | :07:39.
the gambling was the desperate actions of a desperate man trying | :07:39. | :07:45.
to bolster the fund. He wanted to apologise wholeheartedly to the | :07:45. | :07:49.
victims and was so remorseful he had tried to take his own life. | :07:49. | :07:55.
Thank you. One of the biggest illegal flytips ever discovered in | :07:55. | :07:58.
the South has caused a sewage pipe to burst in Southampton. The weight | :07:58. | :08:01.
of the rubbish caused the under ground sewer at Sholing to collapse. | :08:01. | :08:04.
There are fears the rest of the system could fall through if more | :08:04. | :08:08.
is dumped at the site. Southern Water is now going to have to spend | :08:08. | :08:17.
500,000 on a solution. Roger Finn It is a mound of rubble and rubbish | :08:17. | :08:21.
over 40 feet high. Local residents say illegal tipping in the garden | :08:21. | :08:26.
of this property has been going on for 30 years or more. There is | :08:26. | :08:30.
Tarmac and other material estimated at hundreds of tonnes. The problem | :08:30. | :08:34.
is that two means sewage pipes serving thousands of homes in this | :08:34. | :08:38.
area run right underneath that moaned and do she'll wait has | :08:38. | :08:43.
crushed 1 and is threatening the other. The first sign of a problem | :08:43. | :08:47.
became clear two years ago when the stream beside the property became | :08:47. | :08:51.
polluted with sewage. Most other water are planning to build a new | :08:51. | :08:54.
paper to bypass the mound under this path nearby. It will cost | :08:54. | :08:59.
500,000, and until it is completed local residents will be at risk. | :08:59. | :09:05.
At times of heavy rain there will be increased flows, and deserve | :09:05. | :09:10.
16,000 people. During this time there is a risk of diluted sewage | :09:10. | :09:13.
coming out from an goals. We approached the family who open | :09:13. | :09:17.
all -- own the property where the dumping is taking place for a | :09:17. | :09:22.
comment, but they declined. They have been served with a stop notice, | :09:22. | :09:25.
but the council have said they will be no prosecution. | :09:25. | :09:29.
The problem is, because the previous administration unloaded to | :09:29. | :09:33.
happen for so long nobody took the action needed to get prosecutions. | :09:34. | :09:38.
We cannot do that, but we can now. We have made it clear, any further | :09:38. | :09:43.
action and we will have legal action of the stop notice that his | :09:43. | :09:47.
in place. This afternoon, an exhibition was | :09:47. | :09:50.
mounted to inform local people about the new sewage pipe works. | :09:50. | :09:53.
There were strong views about the fly-tipping. | :09:53. | :09:57.
It is shameful. I would say in the past they should have looked into | :09:57. | :10:01.
this. They had plenty of time. The new pipes should be completed | :10:01. | :10:10.
by March. Still to come in this evening's | :10:10. | :10:12.
South Today... Best foot forward - we meet a Great | :10:12. | :10:17.
South Run hopeful who has the Olympics in her sights. Around 100 | :10:17. | :10:20.
people in Swanage who were forced to leave their street because of a | :10:20. | :10:23.
gas leak have been allowed back into their homes. Emergency | :10:23. | :10:26.
services were called to Victoria Avenue yesterday and closed off the | :10:26. | :10:29.
area while a damaged gas pipe was repaired. A rest centre was opened | :10:29. | :10:32.
at the United Reformed Church Hall. Hampshire Police say no one will be | :10:32. | :10:35.
charged in connection with an incident that left a Southampton | :10:35. | :10:38.
football player with serious head injuries. Dan Seaborne was found | :10:38. | :10:40.
injured on the pavement outside Junk nightclub on London Road in | :10:40. | :10:44.
September. Two men aged 35 and 29 from Southampton were arrested but | :10:44. | :10:48.
later released without charge. The police say the man who pushed Mr | :10:48. | :10:53.
Seaborne used reasonable force to defend himself. | :10:53. | :10:56.
A Broadmoor Hospital patient has lost his legal battle to be freed | :10:56. | :11:00.
in a mental health tribunal ruling that has made legal history. Albert | :11:00. | :11:03.
Haines became the first psychiatric patient to have the case for his | :11:03. | :11:08.
release heard in public. But the tribunal has today said Berkshire's | :11:08. | :11:12.
Broadmoor Hospital is the best place for Mr Haines to be treated. | :11:13. | :11:15.
His family says the decision is devastating, as our Home Affairs | :11:15. | :11:23.
Correspondent, Alex Forsyth, reports. | :11:23. | :11:27.
Denys has never had the chance to be close to her brother. For 25 | :11:27. | :11:31.
years, Albert Haines has been held under the Mental Health Act. Most | :11:31. | :11:37.
recently in Broadmoor Hospital. He sends Denise artwork which he says | :11:37. | :11:41.
shows -- she says shows he feels failed by a system meant to build | :11:41. | :11:46.
They're supposed to be making them better, and I believe that my | :11:46. | :11:50.
brother is a way because they failed him in that aspect. | :11:50. | :11:55.
Albert Haines was sent to Broadmoor in 1986 after threatening hospital | :11:55. | :12:00.
staff with a knife. This year he became the first psychiatric | :12:00. | :12:03.
patient to have his appeal heard and public. | :12:03. | :12:10.
He has been able to a hit -- air his grievances. He feels he has | :12:10. | :12:13.
spent a disproportionate to murder time detained for an offence | :12:13. | :12:20.
committed over 25 years ago. Albert Haines's doctor told the | :12:20. | :12:22.
tribunal his patient has a personality disorder and is a risk | :12:23. | :12:27.
to the public and himself. Today, the panel agreed brought me a | :12:27. | :12:32.
hospital is the best place for him. -- Broadmoor a hospital. | :12:32. | :12:39.
It is our responsibility to look for a way forward for him to help | :12:39. | :12:44.
and move on from Broadmoor Hospital. As soon as we can manage that | :12:44. | :12:50.
safely we will assess whether rehabilitation can be continued. | :12:50. | :12:54.
It is not like we are set -- saying let him walk out, we want him to | :12:54. | :12:59.
have the help he needs, but it will not happen in Broadmoor Hospital. I | :12:59. | :13:02.
hope my brother gets the chance to come out and have some kind of life | :13:02. | :13:06.
before he passes. This hearing could pave the way for | :13:07. | :13:14.
others, although many patients may not welcome the attention. But, | :13:14. | :13:18.
Albert Haines intends to appeal and continue this a rare public fight | :13:18. | :13:26.
A health trust in the south has released figures which show a | :13:26. | :13:29.
dramatic rise in the number of people using mental health services. | :13:29. | :13:32.
The economic downturn is seen as a driving force behind the increase. | :13:32. | :13:35.
The figures are for West and East Sussex. They show a 44% rise over | :13:35. | :13:38.
the last three years. That means that the Sussex Partnership NHS | :13:38. | :13:41.
Foundation Trust is seeing more than 100,000 people. It comes as | :13:41. | :13:44.
the trust faces having to make savings of 14 million by March | :13:44. | :13:52.
next year. Sean Killick has been looking at the story. | :13:52. | :13:56.
Susie has bipolar disorder. She works as a musician but relies on | :13:56. | :14:00.
housing benefit and a working tax credit. Benefit changes have seen | :14:00. | :14:06.
her income drop 15 per month which means she cannot socialise much of | :14:06. | :14:10.
attend her local day centre that often, leading to more isolation | :14:10. | :14:14.
which affects her condition. Her diet has worsened. | :14:14. | :14:18.
I am eating much less. I have lost a little bit of weight which I did | :14:18. | :14:22.
not want to lose. Food is probably one of the things which you cut | :14:22. | :14:27.
back on and that affects the mood. If you're not eating properly, your | :14:27. | :14:32.
mood will go down. Particularly for people with illnesses and mental | :14:32. | :14:38.
health, it is important to eat well. It is not just people such as Susie | :14:38. | :14:40.
with pre-existing conditions who are affected by the economic | :14:40. | :14:44.
problems. One of the South's biggest health | :14:44. | :14:48.
trusts has seen a sharp rise in the number of people newly diagnosed. | :14:48. | :14:53.
The latest figures show that here in Worthing three years ago they | :14:53. | :14:59.
were dealing with around 60,000 mental health patients. That figure | :14:59. | :15:03.
is now 100,000. The biggest rise is among people of | :15:03. | :15:07.
working age, and not just people who have lost their job - often | :15:07. | :15:11.
people get stressed or repressed because they fear they may lose | :15:11. | :15:14.
their job. The ball then begin to fear they | :15:14. | :15:23.
may lose their homes. They fear getting into significant financial | :15:23. | :15:28.
difficulties. The fear factor as important, and that inevitably | :15:28. | :15:31.
leads on for some people to depression and anxiety which may | :15:31. | :15:33.
need clinical treatment from our services. | :15:33. | :15:37.
The trust says waiting times for non-emergency referrals have | :15:37. | :15:44.
started to rise, though they are still within limits. It says it is | :15:44. | :15:48.
cutting back office costs to provide front level services for | :15:48. | :15:54.
people like Susie. Final preparations are under way | :15:54. | :15:57.
for the opening of Parkway Shopping Centre in Newbury, which opens its | :15:57. | :16:00.
doors tomorrow. This was the scene earlier this week. Hundreds of jobs | :16:00. | :16:03.
have been created by a host of high street names, including department | :16:03. | :16:05.
stores John Lewis and Debenhams. And shoppers can't wait for the | :16:06. | :16:09.
doors to open. We are now on the same level as | :16:09. | :16:12.
Reading and Basingstoke, so as long as they can fill the shops it will | :16:12. | :16:17.
be good. Now it is more better because you | :16:17. | :16:24.
have more shops and that. I will definitely be there when it | :16:24. | :16:28.
opens to have a look round and see what is going on, maybe get some | :16:28. | :16:32.
bargains. South today will be at the opening | :16:32. | :16:39.
tomorrow and live there tomorrow night, as well. Tens of thousands | :16:39. | :16:42.
of music fans have backed a campaign to support a Brighton | :16:42. | :16:45.
music charity locked in a battle with the TV show X Factor. The | :16:45. | :16:48.
charity Rhythmix, which operates in Surrey and Sussex is angry that the | :16:48. | :16:51.
X Factor used the same name for a girl band. More than 60,000 people | :16:51. | :16:55.
have joined a group aiming to stop the X Factor act getting the | :16:55. | :17:00.
Christmas number one. Here's Jon Young. | :17:00. | :17:04.
It has the power to create stars and one of this year's creations, | :17:04. | :17:10.
Rythmix, is in the running for this year's Christmas number one. | :17:10. | :17:19.
Unless this comes along and spoils things. No van a's colt 90s hit now | :17:19. | :17:23.
has more than 60,000 people once Facebook signed up to make it | :17:23. | :17:26.
number one this Christmas, raising money for the Rythmix charity along | :17:26. | :17:31.
the way. And it seems the short will not back down to help the | :17:31. | :17:36.
charity that has used the name Rythmix for the past 12 years - a | :17:36. | :17:40.
charity that helps young people, often bereaved at school, to learn | :17:40. | :17:45.
about music. The organisers may now be forced to remove the word from | :17:45. | :17:50.
T-shirts or leaflets. This has been purely a public | :17:50. | :17:53.
campaign, the public getting behind us saying this is morally wrong and | :17:53. | :17:58.
we want to back this charity, because we do not believe what the | :17:58. | :18:02.
X Factor is doing is a good way to represent young people. | :18:02. | :18:09.
Outside the Rythmix's offices, not everyone was against the X Factor. | :18:09. | :18:13.
I think people should stop taking it so personally. They should treat | :18:13. | :18:17.
the X Factor as a bit of a competition and fun. | :18:17. | :18:20.
Can't they work together? I think that would be positive, the charity | :18:20. | :18:25.
is for helping young children, they are young girls in a band, they | :18:25. | :18:30.
could work together. I really don't like X Factor, so I | :18:30. | :18:35.
am definitely for putting other artists above them in the charts. | :18:35. | :18:40.
It is the listening public, of course, who will have the final say. | :18:40. | :18:44.
It we can reveal that within the past few minutes, it has literally | :18:44. | :18:47.
just been announced that the X Factor contenders are going to | :18:47. | :18:54.
change their name after those protests, and the new name will be | :18:54. | :18:58.
revealed in due course, whatever that means. | :18:58. | :19:02.
Let go want to sport now. Chris Temple has not changed his name, he | :19:02. | :19:09.
is still Chris Temple. In due course does not have much of | :19:09. | :19:12.
are incorrect for a bad name, they are not going to change it to that, | :19:12. | :19:15.
are they? The Aldershot Town and Manchester | :19:15. | :19:19.
United last night, they did not win, but did they expect to? To a | :19:20. | :19:23.
probably not, but you never know. I guess it was about more than the | :19:23. | :19:28.
scoreline. Certainly memorable for Aldershot as much as digger knitted | :19:28. | :19:33.
came calling. Yes, the Shots may have lost the game 3-0, but for | :19:33. | :19:35.
many, it was about much more than the scoreline. Here's Laurence | :19:35. | :19:39.
Herdman. The Aldershot certainly were not | :19:39. | :19:43.
going to win, but having been out of existence less than 20 years ago, | :19:43. | :19:47.
this was their final. A capacity crowd of over 7,000 came | :19:47. | :19:53.
to get a glimpse of the stars of Manchester United. On the pitch, | :19:53. | :19:58.
the Premier League giants looked comfortable from the moment it | :19:58. | :20:03.
didn't have Dermot have -- Berbatov didn't have Dermot have -- Berbatov | :20:03. | :20:05.
put them ahead. Further goals from Michael Owen and Antonio Valencia | :20:05. | :20:08.
that ensured there was criminal upset. | :20:08. | :20:12.
The but, for the Aldershot staff and players, an unforgettable night | :20:12. | :20:15.
and players, an unforgettable night pitting themselves against the best. | :20:15. | :20:19.
A bit disappointed we did not get ourselves on the scoresheet, but we | :20:19. | :20:24.
gave the fans something to cheer about. That Man United team here | :20:24. | :20:29.
was a great achievement for the lads. | :20:29. | :20:32.
This team should get a lot of credit, because they kept pressing | :20:32. | :20:37.
the ball and made us play. Despite the 3-0 scoreline, fans | :20:37. | :20:42.
were left with memories to treasure. Not much to scream and shout about, | :20:42. | :20:45.
but you can have it all. The crowd, the atmosphere, the | :20:45. | :20:49.
whole thing was fantastic. It was great for the town, the | :20:49. | :20:54.
people, had we enjoyed it. It is back to reality for Dean | :20:54. | :20:58.
Holdsworth on Saturday when they entertain another north-west side - | :20:58. | :21:08.
:21:08. | :21:09. | ||
this time it is Crewe Alexandra. A valiant effort nonetheless. | :21:10. | :21:11.
Southampton's interest in the Southampton's interest in the | :21:11. | :21:13.
Carling Cup also ended last night. A much-changed Saints team went | :21:13. | :21:16.
down 2-0 at Crystal Palace. Saints' Jack Cork was heavily involved at | :21:16. | :21:20.
both ends of the pitch. His header in the first minute was cleared off | :21:20. | :21:23.
the line. Then he miscued a clearance, to help set up the | :21:23. | :21:26.
Palace opener - scored by Darren Ambrose on 73. There were no | :21:26. | :21:29.
arguments minutes later, when the referee gave a penalty against Dan | :21:29. | :21:34.
Harding. Jermaine Easter sent Saints out. | :21:34. | :21:36.
Saints out. And you can see more on both | :21:36. | :21:39.
Aldershot and Southampton on the League Cup Show tonight here on BBC | :21:39. | :21:43.
One at 11:20pm. In League One, Bournemouth extended | :21:43. | :21:46.
their unbeaten away run to five games, with a 1-1 draw at | :21:46. | :21:49.
games, with a 1-1 draw at Colchester. The Cherries needed | :21:49. | :21:53.
just 16 seconds to take the lead in Essex. Wes Thomas giving them a | :21:53. | :21:57.
dream start. But an own goal from Stephane Zubar 18 minutes from time | :21:57. | :21:59.
meant the Cherries had to settle for a point. | :21:59. | :22:02.
In League Two, Crawley keeper Scott Shearer won't want to see that | :22:02. | :22:05.
Dagenham free kick too many times. But Crawley responded. Matt Tubbs | :22:05. | :22:09.
won, and then converted a penalty to make it 1-1. And another from | :22:09. | :22:12.
Sergio Torres helped Crawley towards a 3-1 win. The Red Devils | :22:12. | :22:18.
towards a 3-1 win. The Red Devils are two points clear at the top. | :22:18. | :22:21.
This weekend, more than 20,000 people will line up for the Great | :22:21. | :22:24.
South Run in Portsmouth and Southsea, with many of them running | :22:24. | :22:27.
for charitable causes. A leading hope in the elite field meanwhile, | :22:27. | :22:30.
will be one of the emerging talents of British distance running - and | :22:30. | :22:34.
I've been to catch up with her preparations. | :22:34. | :22:39.
Charlotte Purdue has come a long way since winning a BBC's South | :22:40. | :22:44.
young sports person of more than 2006. After much success as a | :22:44. | :22:47.
junior, including winning the European cross-country title in | :22:47. | :22:53.
Portugal, the 20 old from Hampshire arrived on the senior radar with an | :22:53. | :22:56.
impressive fourth place at last year's Commonwealth Games. | :22:56. | :22:59.
Comparisons with other top distance runners are inevitable, but | :22:59. | :23:04.
Charlotte has a focus of her own. In the media, they always betray | :23:04. | :23:08.
you as the next Paula Radcliffe, but I definitely want to walk my | :23:08. | :23:12.
own path and for people to look at me and want to be like me. | :23:12. | :23:19.
A long-time member of the Aldershot running club, Charlotte also trains | :23:19. | :23:24.
at St Mary's College in Twickenham. Now the 2012 Olympics are on the | :23:24. | :23:29.
horizon. A few people are -- have asked, are | :23:29. | :23:34.
we going to watch you win gold at? I am not going to win gold at my | :23:34. | :23:37.
first Olympics. If I see the opportunity, obviously an all- | :23:37. | :23:43.
ticket, but I am aiming more for a top be to finish in the 10K. -- | :23:43. | :23:47.
atop the eighth finish. It has not always been plain | :23:47. | :23:51.
sailing - she had knee surgery earlier this year - but she will be | :23:51. | :23:54.
running in the Great South Run on Sunday. | :23:54. | :23:58.
Do years ago I was supposed to run but I got ill. I went to the race | :23:58. | :24:01.
warm-up and had to pollute at the last minute. | :24:01. | :24:05.
I have never done ten miles, so it is the longest distance I have ever | :24:05. | :24:09.
raced over. It will be good to see what I am like over the longer | :24:09. | :24:15.
distances. It is a step up from her a ladies | :24:15. | :24:18.
winning the many London Marathon, but we are likely to be seeing and | :24:18. | :24:22.
hearing a lot more about block -- Charlotte Purdue. | :24:23. | :24:30.
-- the miniature London Marathon. He may have seen that switch up she | :24:31. | :24:35.
was wearing that had her surname on it, that is not self-promotion, it | :24:35. | :24:40.
is the name of a university in America that her friend brought | :24:40. | :24:43.
back a sweater from. Are you running indeed Great South | :24:43. | :24:47.
Run? I am not! | :24:47. | :24:54.
Alexis is, she is. We wanted to put the strongest contenders in. | :24:54. | :24:57.
Let's talk about the weather for the next few days. | :24:57. | :25:03.
No shortage of drama today. We have seen it all, seen some thunder and | :25:03. | :25:10.
showers, and even this - a waterspout out to sea from James | :25:10. | :25:14.
Read's garden near St Catherine's Point. It lasted ten minutes, thank | :25:14. | :25:16.
you for that. you for that. | :25:16. | :25:21.
A lovely rainbow in Dorchester. And this was taken after a morning | :25:22. | :25:31.
:25:32. | :25:33. | ||
Plenty of drama in the weather, and some impressive portals. We saw a | :25:33. | :25:40.
10-50 mm, but at Thorney Island we saw at nearly 50 mm. In Bournemouth | :25:40. | :25:46.
3.6 mm. Tonight, more rain, spreading to all parts arriving | :25:46. | :25:50.
from the south and tracking north and east, quite slow in its | :25:50. | :25:55.
progress. For the first part of the night, perhaps parts of Oxford -- | :25:55. | :26:01.
Oxfordshire will get a brief respite before rain spreads. | :26:01. | :26:06.
Temperatures as low as eight Celsius by dawn. The rain will | :26:06. | :26:10.
become persistent tomorrow morning, heaviest and the western fringes of | :26:10. | :26:16.
Dorset, probably up to 40 millimetres in isolated -- isolated | :26:16. | :26:20.
locations. Generally 20 mm. Temperatures quite suppressed | :26:20. | :26:30.
tomorrow, 10-11 Celsius, perhaps the odd 14. In the evening the rain | :26:30. | :26:34.
will fade away, clear spells for many parts to the Far West. That | :26:34. | :26:42.
will encourage fog. In the Far East, cloud and a frontal system, so mist | :26:42. | :26:47.
which ever way you look at it on Friday morning. We do have high | :26:47. | :26:50.
pressure build-up, promising dry weather for the weekend. Nor | :26:50. | :27:00.
:27:00. | :27:00. | ||
isobars inside for a Friday but cloud and the high. Le Saturday, | :27:00. | :27:10.
:27:10. | :27:11. | ||
similar to Friday's situation, and even on Sunday we have a lot of | :27:11. | :27:16.
cloud for the day. Not much in the way the sunshine, so more rain on | :27:16. | :27:23.
Thursday, heaviest through mid-day, a breeze and fairly late on Friday, | :27:23. | :27:27.
quite brave. Saturday and Sunday, great to begin with but on the | :27:27. | :27:32. |
