Hello, I'm Sally Taylor. Welcome to South Today. In tonight's | :00:01. | :00:06.
programme:'s Drama on the runway - a transatlantic jet makes an | :00:06. | :00:12.
emergency landing and is evacuated at Gatwick after a technical fault. | :00:12. | :00:15.
Under review - defence decisions are due any day on the future of | :00:15. | :00:18.
the new aircraft carriers. The former professional footballer | :00:19. | :00:28.

who tried to end it all. As I was getting more intoxicated, | :00:29. | :00:35.
I was planning it. I knew the last train was coming from Portsmouth to | :00:35. | :00:41.
London and I thought that nobody loved me. I had let people down | :00:41. | :00:44.
again. And closing in on a return to the | :00:44. | :00:47.
Premier League - Reading are in the driving seat as they top the | :00:47. | :00:54.
Championship. No one was jumping up and down after the game with | :00:55. | :01:04.

Southampton, we are completely Flights in and out of Gatwick | :01:06. | :01:09.
airport were suspended today after an aircraft with more than 200 | :01:09. | :01:14.
passengers on board was forced to make an emergency landing. The | :01:14. | :01:16.
Virgin A330 plane had left the Sussex airport bound for Florida, | :01:16. | :01:22.
but had to turn back due to a technical issue. Some passengers | :01:22. | :01:24.
were injured as the plane was evacuated using the emergency | :01:24. | :01:29.
chutes while it was on the runway. Our reporter Sean Killick is at | :01:30. | :01:39.

Gatwick for us tonight. It was at 10:48am this morning when | :01:41. | :01:47.
Virgin A330 left Gatwick bound for Orlando. At first everything seemed | :01:47. | :01:51.
all right, but then an emergency alarm sounded and the captain made | :01:51. | :01:56.
a decision to turn back to Gatwick immediately. One of the passengers | :01:56. | :02:01.
from Berkshire said deplane was a wobbly. There was panic among the | :02:01. | :02:05.
cabin crew and there was an announcement saying that there | :02:05. | :02:10.
would be an emergency landing. The plane circled the landing twice. | :02:10. | :02:16.
Emergency vehicles landed -- arrived as the plane landed. There | :02:16. | :02:21.
was smoke in the cabin. That has not been confirmed, but the fire | :02:21. | :02:27.
service say they have been called. The plane did not taxi back to the | :02:27. | :02:31.
terminal, instead it stop that the end wait and beat shoots were | :02:31. | :02:35.
deployed and passengers jumped down. Several were injured in the process. | :02:35. | :02:39.
This is the scene on the ground outside the aeroplane captured by | :02:39. | :02:46.
one of the passengers. Passengers assemble here. Passengers assemble | :02:46. | :02:56.
here. Passengers assemble here. Some alarms went off and the | :02:56. | :02:59.
captain for the best thing to do was to return, so he did. He got | :02:59. | :03:02.
back to Gatwick and got the aircraft on the ground as quickly | :03:02. | :03:07.
as possible. We did an emergency evacuation and got the passengers | :03:07. | :03:12.
of, it was the right thing to do. It was disappointing to disrupt | :03:12. | :03:17.
everyone's plants like that. I have just been with the passengers and | :03:17. | :03:20.
clearly they are traumatised by what happened. They are equally | :03:20. | :03:26.
grateful to the crew for doing the job they did. | :03:26. | :03:30.
Is everything back to normal at Gatwick tonight? What has happened | :03:31. | :03:33.
to the passengers who were involved in the incident? | :03:33. | :03:39.
The passengers, some of them have gone home and some are staying at a | :03:39. | :03:49.
hotel tonight. Virgin have teams of staff who are helping now. The Air | :03:49. | :03:51.
Accident Investigation Branch has got custody of the plane and had | :03:51. | :03:55.
interviewed the crew. As for the airport, I have spoken to them and | :03:55. | :04:00.
they say that it is getting back to normal. It is not back to normal | :04:00. | :04:03.
yet. The runway was closed for one hour and 45 minutes. During that | :04:03. | :04:11.
time, nine flights were cancelled, 27 were diverted to other airports, | :04:11. | :04:15.
but they say that they are trying to get things back to normal as | :04:15. | :04:18.
soon as possible and this could have everything back to normal | :04:18. | :04:23.
tomorrow. -- they should have everything back to normal tomorrow. | :04:23. | :04:25.
Businesses and shops were evacuated in Winchester this afternoon | :04:25. | :04:28.
following a security threat at the city's Crown Court. A 100-metre | :04:28. | :04:30.
exclusion zone was set up and several roads closed, causing | :04:30. | :04:33.
significant disruption to traffic. Specialist military were also | :04:33. | :04:42.
called to the site. The police cordon has now been lifted. | :04:42. | :04:44.
The government's confirmed it's carrying out a review of elements | :04:44. | :04:47.
of the costly and controversial aircraft carrier project, which is | :04:47. | :04:51.
sustaining thousands of jobs across the south. Major sections of the | :04:51. | :04:55.
giant ships are due to be moved out of a shipyard in Portsmouth over | :04:55. | :04:58.
the next few months. The latest arguments centre on which type of | :04:58. | :05:02.
fighter jets are chosen. One leading defence analyst has told | :05:02. | :05:07.
South Today he thinks the entire programme is in a mess. Steve | :05:07. | :05:12.
Humphrey is in Portsmouth for us tonight. Steve, once again lots of | :05:12. | :05:16.
questions being asked about this major defence project? | :05:16. | :05:18.
Yes, the Defence Secretary Philip Hammond is facing the biggest | :05:18. | :05:25.
decision since he took charge of the military. The choice of | :05:26. | :05:29.
aircraft will have a major impact on the defence budget, and on when | :05:29. | :05:39.
:05:39. | :05:44. | ||
the new carriers come into service. The Labour government wanted to buy | :05:44. | :05:48.
this version of the fighter, but the Coalition government opted for | :05:48. | :05:52.
the original take-off and landing model instead. That means | :05:52. | :05:56.
installing catapults and wires on the aircraft carriers. It is | :05:56. | :05:59.
understood the modifications to the ships being built in Portsmouth and | :05:59. | :06:06.
other shipyards could cost an extra 2 billion on top of the expected | :06:06. | :06:09.
6 billion already being spent on the carriers. With massive | :06:09. | :06:12.
pressures on the defence budget, there have been reports that the | :06:13. | :06:17.
Defence Secretary is considering doing a U-turn and reverting to the | :06:17. | :06:24.
plan to buy the jump jet version. It has much lower upfront costs. | :06:24. | :06:28.
Buying the jump jets would mean the UK would have a fully functioning | :06:28. | :06:32.
aircraft-carrier by around 2018, up to seven years earlier than if the | :06:32. | :06:35.
other model is chosen. So, Steve, what are defence experts | :06:35. | :06:43.
saying about this? We have spoken to two defence | :06:43. | :06:50.
experts today and they believe the government is making it difficult | :06:50. | :06:56.
so dish -- is having a hard time making a decision. I think you | :06:56. | :07:01.
could probably call this a mess. This is probably the hardest | :07:01. | :07:05.
challenge the government has in defence, and certainly is the | :07:06. | :07:09.
biggest challenge for the Secretary of State for Defence in his six | :07:09. | :07:15.
months in office. There is utter confusion in the | :07:15. | :07:20.
Ministry of Defence. The politicians have not made up their | :07:20. | :07:22.
minds with what they want them to do in strategic terms, the military | :07:22. | :07:26.
is trying to second-guess what the Treasury and the politicians want, | :07:26. | :07:29.
and at the end of the day, no one has really identified what | :07:29. | :07:33.
resources are available to build these carriers and then can they go | :07:33. | :07:35.
them for the maximum operational benefit. | :07:35. | :07:38.
And when will a decision be made? Well, I understand meetings are | :07:38. | :07:43.
taking place this week. No ministers are doing interviews | :07:44. | :07:46.
about this, but the MoD issued a statement saying the government is | :07:47. | :07:49.
committed to a carrier strike capability, but is finalising its | :07:49. | :07:52.
budget. The statement says: "As part of this process, we are | :07:52. | :07:54.
reviewing all programmes, including elements of the carrier strike | :07:54. | :08:04.
:08:04. | :08:05. | ||
programme, to validate costs and And the MoD says the defence | :08:05. | :08:08.
secretary will announce the outcome of the process to Parliament in due | :08:08. | :08:18.
course. Watch this space. | :08:18. | :08:21.
Thank you, steep. Detectives are continuing to | :08:21. | :08:24.
question a man on suspicion of murder after a father-of-one was | :08:24. | :08:26.
stabbed in Waterlooville. 27-year old Simon Warton was fatally | :08:26. | :08:30.
stabbed last Thursday. Police had been called to the Dove Close area | :08:30. | :08:33.
of the town after reports of a fight. Sean Bailey, who's 28, was | :08:33. | :08:37.
arrested on Saturday in Havant. Four other people have been | :08:37. | :08:42.
arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. | :08:42. | :08:44.
Police have arrested a 37-year-old man in connection with the alleged | :08:44. | :08:48.
murder of a father of three from near Farnborough. The 36-year-old | :08:48. | :08:50.
victim died yesterday following a fight outside the Old Court House | :08:51. | :08:57.
Pub in Cove on Saturday evening. Officers from the Hampshire Force | :08:57. | :08:59.
arrested the man who had voluntarily attended Aldershot | :08:59. | :09:08.
Police Station. Joe Campbell reports. | :09:08. | :09:15.
Throughout the day, those who were close to they came to the spot | :09:15. | :09:21.
where he suffered fatal injuries. The father of two was a successful | :09:21. | :09:26.
businessman. Tonight his parents described him as a modern dance, | :09:26. | :09:31.
the kind of man who was happy to help change his kids nappies. | :09:31. | :09:34.
Messages from his children, along with a note from his partner, were | :09:34. | :09:39.
among the tributes left at the scene at today. Police are still | :09:39. | :09:42.
trying to piece together events outside this pub on Saturday. One | :09:42. | :09:48.
line of inquiry is an altercation in side spilled out onto the | :09:48. | :09:53.
streets. What is clear is that the fatal consequences of the events | :09:53. | :09:59.

Three men and a woman have appeared before Winchester Crown Court | :10:17. | :10:20.
charged with the murder of Jamie Dack in Southampton. The body of | :10:20. | :10:23.
the 22 year-old was found stabbed and burned in an industrial bin on | :10:23. | :10:25.

detective who was killed last October. Heather Cooper was found | :10:53. | :10:56.
dead in woods near Haslemere. Her former partner Peter Foster is | :10:56. | :10:58.
awaiting trial for her murder. Rachael Canter reports. | :10:58. | :11:06.
A day for families in Haslemere. And a day to remember Heather. | :11:06. | :11:11.
had met the children a few times and it really had an effect, what | :11:11. | :11:15.
happened. I just wanted to do as much as possible to help. I know a | :11:15. | :11:20.
lot of people in the community also felt the same. | :11:20. | :11:23.
Heather loved horses - this painting by a local artist was | :11:23. | :11:26.
donated to be auctioned in her memory. All the money raised here | :11:26. | :11:31.
will go into a welfare fund set up by Surrey Police. Heather has two | :11:31. | :11:36.
very, very young children that through the tragic events, find | :11:36. | :11:40.
themselves in a difficult place. We thought it was important as a force | :11:41. | :11:44.
to support the development of a fund that can see those children | :11:44. | :11:46.
being helped and supported in the future. | :11:46. | :11:49.

more time to question two 14-year- old boys on suspicion of murder | :12:19. | :12:22.
after a man died following a fight in Rottingdean near Brighton. A | :12:22. | :12:24.
post mortem showed 19-year-old Connor Saunders from Woodingdean | :12:24. | :12:27.
died from head injuries. Officers say they believe he was punched | :12:27. | :12:31.
causing him to fall to the floor. A 13-year-old boy also arrested on | :12:31. | :12:41.
suspicion of murder has been released on bail. | :12:41. | :12:44.
Pretty much the whole of southern England is now officially in | :12:44. | :12:46.
drought and it's thought the situation may not improve until | :12:46. | :12:48.
Christmas. Today the Environment Agency added Dorset, Hampshire and | :12:48. | :12:52.
Wiltshire to its drought map, and repeated calls for water to be used | :12:52. | :12:54.
wisely. The National Farmers Union says the prolonged drought will | :12:54. | :13:03.
pose challenges to farming. We want the sunshine during the day, the | :13:03. | :13:07.
showers at night. We have 10 million more mouths to feed in the | :13:07. | :13:11.
next 50 years. People have to be less resistant the things like | :13:11. | :13:15.
genetic modification. That what it is a pout, been smarter, thinking | :13:15. | :13:24.
more carefully about God-given Figures form the Health Protection | :13:24. | :13:27.
Agency have shown that there've been more cases of Whooping Cough | :13:27. | :13:30.
in southern England than anywhere else in the UK last year. 182 | :13:30. | :13:33.
people were infected in the South East, compared with 61 people the | :13:33. | :13:35.
year before. That's the largest number of cases anywhere in the | :13:35. | :13:39.
country, and it does not include London. The biggest increases were | :13:39. | :13:41.
in children aged under three months; ten to 15-year-olds; and | :13:41. | :13:48.
the over-15s. Researchers in Southampton are | :13:48. | :13:51.
taking part in a ground breaking clinical study to find a cure for | :13:51. | :13:55.
Parkinson's Disease. The project in the south is being co-ordinated by | :13:55. | :13:59.
Southampton University and Romsey Hospital. It's now looking for | :13:59. | :14:02.
volunteers who've been diagnosed with the neurological disease and | :14:02. | :14:06.
their siblings. Researchers are hoping to find indicators in the | :14:06. | :14:12.
blood which could be used for new tests. | :14:12. | :14:15.
Football has long had a culture of drinking and gambling among some | :14:15. | :14:18.
players. Recently, the sport has begun to recognise more and more | :14:18. | :14:22.
the damage it's caused to many. One former professional, Warren | :14:22. | :14:24.
Aspinall, who played for Portsmouth, Bournemouth and Brighton, is a | :14:24. | :14:27.
recovering alcoholic and gambling addict who tried to take his own | :14:27. | :14:34.
life. In a bid to help the next generation of players, he's decided | :14:34. | :14:44.
:14:44. | :14:44. | ||
to speak about the demons he's faced. Andy Steggall reports. | :14:44. | :14:50.
Five years ago. Warren Aspinall, visiting the place where his life | :14:50. | :14:55.
changed forever. A former professional footballer, he earned | :14:55. | :14:59.
big money, enjoyed the trappings of fame, but he was also fighting two | :14:59. | :15:03.
addictions common in the game: Drink and gambling. Playing cards | :15:03. | :15:09.
on away trips, big money. When you have lost thousands of pounds, you | :15:09. | :15:13.
have to play football. Your mind is not on the football either because | :15:13. | :15:19.
you are thinking about when we get 1,000 back? When I used to win, I | :15:19. | :15:24.
used to celebrate with a drink. I lost quite a bit of money and I | :15:24. | :15:29.
would go in the pub and commiserate. With his playing career over, so | :15:29. | :15:32.
were the days of the big pay packets. After another loss at the | :15:33. | :15:37.
bookies, Warren believed there was only one way out. Went to the pub, | :15:37. | :15:46.
I knew I was going to do it. I was planning it. I knew what time the | :15:46. | :15:50.
last train was coming from Portsmouth to London. I thought | :15:50. | :15:56.
that nobody loved me. Because I have let people down again. I went | :15:56. | :16:01.
into the train station and that -- and sat on the train I'm with my | :16:01. | :16:10.
back to it. I was lucky enough that the trainer stopped at the last | :16:10. | :16:16.
minute. I rolled over and thought, what are you doing, Warren? I came | :16:16. | :16:19.
back to my fiancee who I was staying with at the time and told | :16:19. | :16:24.
her what had happened. She said, you need help. Realising she was | :16:24. | :16:31.
right, he got help. He phoned the sporting chance clinic a place | :16:31. | :16:38.
where many other footballers have received treatment. 28 days in | :16:38. | :16:42.
there and it is like a prison. You get better in there and they teach | :16:43. | :16:46.
you the right things. Once you have finished, it is up to you to go out | :16:46. | :16:50.
and put the balls into practice. Now Warren travels around the | :16:50. | :16:53.
country, speaking to the next generation of footballers, warning | :16:53. | :17:02.
them of the dangers that can harm a career. | :17:02. | :17:11.
You can see a lot more of that tonight at 11:05pm tonight. | :17:11. | :17:16.
In tonight's programme, he will go into more detail about the next | :17:16. | :17:20.
generation. They get into the game and, quickly and they get a lot | :17:20. | :17:25.
more money. Shell we talk about the better things off football? Better | :17:25. | :17:29.
if you are a Reading fan! Some people thought that Reading would | :17:29. | :17:33.
win on Friday night and some people thought it would be a draw. Funny | :17:33. | :17:37.
that you sat on the fence and I didn't! Credit to you, you know | :17:37. | :17:42.
more about the game than at any! just stick a pin in the game and | :17:43. | :17:52.
:17:53. | :17:54. | ||
Let's take a look at what happened on Friday night at St Mary's | :17:54. | :17:59.
Stadium. This was the last man to take Southampton into the division, | :17:59. | :18:07.
of course. Southampton did get an equaliser, you thought about. As we | :18:07. | :18:11.
see some of the emotions from the fans, may be Southampton would win | :18:11. | :18:16.
this game, but the man known as Alfie popped up as a substitute and | :18:16. | :18:22.
he got two big goals which left those fans frustrated because | :18:22. | :18:25.
Southampton put the promotion parties on hold. Reading could go | :18:25. | :18:29.
up if they get a better result than West Ham tomorrow night. Nottingham | :18:29. | :18:33.
Forest tomorrow night for the royals. The manager has been | :18:33. | :18:37.
talking to the media today as he looks ahead to again tomorrow. Very | :18:37. | :18:41.
much the message seems to be we are keeping our feet on the ground. | :18:41. | :18:46.
The focus does not change. It is interesting after the game that no | :18:46. | :18:50.
one was jumping up and down in the dressing room after Southampton. We | :18:50. | :18:52.
are completely focused on the next game. | :18:52. | :18:56.
So defeat for Southampton but that in itself wasn't a hammer blow to | :18:56. | :18:58.
their promotion chances, what they could done without though, was the | :18:58. | :19:01.
Hammers scoring six times on Saturday in beating Brighton, whose | :19:01. | :19:04.
own promotion ambitions are now fading rapidly. Albion were 3-0 | :19:04. | :19:07.
down at Upton Park within ten minutes as West ham brushed them | :19:07. | :19:10.
aside, goalkeeper Peter Brezovan had a game to forget, and boss Gus | :19:10. | :19:12.
Poyet has promised he'll be bringing in more players with | :19:12. | :19:15.
Premier league experience after saying his side are not ready to be | :19:15. | :19:25.
:19:25. | :19:29. | ||
promoted yet. The goals got worse in the second half. There is a good | :19:29. | :19:34.
finish coming up. Good effort. Brighton well out of it. | :19:34. | :19:37.
To give you an idea of how things have changed, here's how the table | :19:37. | :19:39.
looked on Friday night before Southampton played Reading. And | :19:39. | :19:42.
here's how it looks tonight: the key change, other than Reading now | :19:42. | :19:45.
being top is in the goal difference. There's been an eight-goal swing, | :19:45. | :19:53.
in the goal difference between Southampton and West Ham. At the | :19:53. | :19:55.
other end of the Championship Portsmouth are hanging on after a | :19:55. | :19:58.
dramatic victory at Doncaster, Roisin Gauson rounds up the rest of | :19:58. | :20:00.
the action. These have been turbulent times for | :20:00. | :20:03.
Pompey, who have been fighting for survival both on and off the pitch. | :20:04. | :20:07.
And the rollercoaster continued over the weekend. Trailing 2-0 at | :20:07. | :20:14.
half time, Michael Appletons men fought back. But with a minute of | :20:14. | :20:17.
normal time left, they were 3-2 down. League One looked almost | :20:18. | :20:22.
certain. But a late equaliser from Dave Kitson, and a stoppage time | :20:22. | :20:32.
:20:32. | :20:35. | ||
winner for Marko Futacs means they I think we deserved that because we | :20:35. | :20:40.
have had a few poor decisions go away, especially over the last | :20:40. | :20:43.
couple of months. I think we did create enough opportunities in the | :20:43. | :20:46.
game to win it. In Division two, promotion chasers | :20:46. | :20:49.
Crawley showed similar spirit - having played with ten men for most | :20:49. | :20:51.
of the match, following Hope Akpan's dismissal for this crashing | :20:52. | :20:58.
Gary Alexander levelled the score to rescue the point late on. The | :20:58. | :21:07.
reds need to win all four of their to reach the play-offs after a one- | :21:07. | :21:11.
all draw with Dagenham and Redbridge. And in League One, | :21:11. | :21:14.
Bournemouth were caught on the back foot early on, and failed to | :21:14. | :21:23.
James Richardson and the team discuss the issues on tonight's | :21:23. | :21:28.
Late Kick off at 11:05pm on BBC One. The Surrey kayaker Rachel Cawthorn | :21:28. | :21:31.
strengthened her claim for a place in Team GB this summer at the | :21:32. | :21:35.
weekend. Rachel, won the K1 races over 200 and 500 metres at the | :21:35. | :21:38.
national regatta in Nottingham. The 23-year-old from Guildford is now | :21:38. | :21:41.
expected to be at Dorney Lake competing in the Games and this was | :21:41. | :21:44.
a welcome win on home waters after a hectic schedule of foreign | :21:44. | :21:52.
training. I really did not know how this was | :21:52. | :21:56.
going to turn out. For the last few months, there have been a lot of | :21:56. | :22:01.
ups and downs. So much for doubting has been going on so now I have | :22:01. | :22:07.
finished it, it is for some! The last two weeks, I have felt more | :22:07. | :22:12.
confident, going out and racing today, I want to build on now. | :22:12. | :22:15.
Rugby news, and the London Irish winger Delon Armitage is to leave | :22:15. | :22:19.
the club at the ed of the season. He's moving to France to join his | :22:19. | :22:21.
brother Steffan at Toulouse. Irish's miserable season continued | :22:21. | :22:24.
with a 9th straight defeat at the weekend against Saracens. But it's | :22:24. | :22:26.
congratulations to Bournemouth rugby club. They've been promoted | :22:26. | :22:29.
to National league two south. After thrashing Weston Super Mare on | :22:29. | :22:36.
Saturday to secure the title. Well done to them. | :22:36. | :22:38.
9,000 people took part in this year's Brighton Marathon. | :22:38. | :22:40.
Altogether, they raised an estimated four million pounds for | :22:40. | :22:43.
charity. The men's event was won by the Kenyan runner Peter Some, while | :22:43. | :22:46.
Sviatlana Kouhan of Belarus took the women's title. Both set new | :22:46. | :22:54.
course records. It looked good on the weekend. | :22:55. | :22:59.
Yes, it is warming up. It is the London Marathon soon. | :22:59. | :23:05.
You were there at the weekend, why were you not running it? I have | :23:05. | :23:11.
done two marathons so that is it. Half marathons are OK. We are | :23:11. | :23:16.
watching the skies because we need rain. We do have some rain on the | :23:16. | :23:18.
way. Chris Allery captured the National | :23:18. | :23:20.
Grid workmen replacing the electricity cables under clear blue | :23:20. | :23:23.
skies in Whiteley this morning. Marshall took this photo of a ewe | :23:23. | :23:26.
and her lamb in the Vale of Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire. | :23:26. | :23:29.
David Bristow captured a robin taking a bath in Fareham this | :23:29. | :23:39.
:23:39. | :23:40. | ||
This week, we have rain at times in the form of a showers, heavy and a | :23:40. | :23:44.
thundery in places, windy as well, touching gale force along the south | :23:44. | :23:49.
coast. There will be some sunshine on offer. The best day was today | :23:49. | :23:54.
unfortunately, if you missed the sunshine, there will be some other | :23:54. | :23:58.
sports of stunt during the West -- during the week. Heavier bursts of | :23:58. | :24:04.
rain during the week. Temperatures down to four degrees. Not as cold | :24:04. | :24:10.
as last night. This week, we rule out the chance of a frost every | :24:10. | :24:13.
morning because of the one temperatures and the rain. Heavier | :24:13. | :24:18.
bursts gusting up to maybe 40 miles an hour on the South course -- | :24:18. | :24:23.
south coast. There will be a brief dry spell, a window uprightness, | :24:23. | :24:28.
before showers get going in the afternoon. Thundery in a few places. | :24:28. | :24:31.
The winds will remain brisk tomorrow night, a few showers | :24:31. | :24:36.
initially, before further rain arrives on Wednesday morning. The | :24:36. | :24:41.
winds will increase and gusts could reach up to 55 miles an hour on | :24:41. | :24:48.
exposed coasts. This area of low pressure is going to be in charge | :24:48. | :24:52.
on Wednesday. Some very strong winds, you can see the squeeze on | :24:52. | :24:56.
the isobars. A band of rain first thing, that will be followed by | :24:56. | :25:01.
some very heavy showers and some of thunder and Hayle mixed in as well. | :25:01. | :25:04.
Further thundery showers are possible on Thursday. That is not | :25:04. | :25:09.
to say we will not see some sunshine during the day. Friday, | :25:09. | :25:13.
the showers will not be as frequent or heavy, but they will be dotted | :25:13. | :25:17.
around. The nature of showers will be hit and miss, some areas could | :25:17. | :25:21.
be drier altogether. Here is your summary: Rain tomorrow morning, | :25:21. | :25:25.
strong winds touching gale forced, and showers for the rest of the | :25:25. | :25:29.
week. $$NEWLINE, Well, it's been an extraordinary weekend as people | :25:29. | :25:32.
marked 100 years since the sinking of the Titanic. There were church | :25:32. | :25:36.
services and wreath layings across the south. Tonight we'll leave you | :25:36. | :25:46.
:25:46. | :26:03. | ||
Team, your father was on board, what was he doing? He was 18 and a | :26:03. | :26:13.
:26:13. | :26:15. | ||
trainee steward. We remember Sir Arthur Henry Rostron, captain. And | :26:15. | :26:19.
the crew of RMS car paid here brought the survivors of the | :26:19. | :26:24.
Titanic to save before stock if it was not for this gentleman here, | :26:24. | :26:28.
none of them would have survived even though there were in lifeboats | :26:28. | :26:32.
were stop he would not be here today if it was not for what | :26:32. | :26:42.
:26:42. | :26:43. | ||
Captain Rostron did on that night? Very good to see that people are | :26:43. | :26:46.
paying their respects to Jack Phillips and coming to enjoy the | :26:46. | :26:56.
:26:56. | :27:07. | ||
We welcome you to the church of Santa and for the first Titanic | :27:07. | :27:11.
memorial service. The effect of the sinking of the Titanic upon this | :27:11. | :27:15.
port was the single greatest disaster to affect any one city in | :27:15. | :27:23.
maritime history. At 7pm, a clerk came out of the White Star offices | :27:23. | :27:28. |
