Hello I'm Sally Taylor. Welcome to South Today. In tonight's

:00:05.:00:07.

programme: Police officers will have to plug

:00:07.:00:12.

the gap in Olympic security left by G4S.

:00:12.:00:16.

A bitter pill to swallow for some NHS staff who could face cuts in

:00:16.:00:19.

pay. Electrifying the line could get

:00:19.:00:23.

freight off roads, but will it be a shock for passengers with rising

:00:23.:00:32.

fares? And after a huge crowds followed the torch this weekend,

:00:32.:00:37.

today it has made its way into Sussex where 10,000 people will see

:00:38.:00:47.

the cauldron it here in Hove. Police from three forces in the

:00:47.:00:50.

South are being drafted in to fill the gaps in Olympics security after

:00:50.:00:55.

the private firm, G4S, failed to provide enough staff. Officers in

:00:55.:00:58.

Dorset, Surrey and the Thames Valley will step in to help keep

:00:58.:01:02.

Olympic venues in their regions safe. In Dorset, the military are

:01:02.:01:07.

also on patrol at sailing venues after G4S staff failed to show up.

:01:07.:01:14.

Our Home Affairs Correspondent has the story.

:01:14.:01:19.

In less than two weeks, Weymouth and Portland will be packed with

:01:19.:01:23.

spectators here to see Olympic sailing. Soon, the main venues are

:01:23.:01:27.

due to be lockdown meaning they have been searched and security

:01:27.:01:32.

stepped up, but Dorset Police Federation so there has been a

:01:32.:01:37.

shortfall in staff from G4S, the private firm contracted to do this.

:01:37.:01:42.

On Sundays they say just 40% of the plan work force have shown up.

:01:42.:01:48.

We should not have to use the army, but through it route falls and

:01:48.:01:52.

ability to fulfil its contractual obligations, the army has been

:01:52.:01:57.

called in by the government. military already had a central role

:01:57.:02:03.

in the operation. HMS Bulwark will be offshore throughout, but the

:02:03.:02:06.

Ministry of Defence confirmed they are taking on extra work to make up

:02:06.:02:11.

the shortfall left by G4S. We are getting on with the job of working

:02:11.:02:14.

with them as they will still provide a significant number of

:02:14.:02:19.

guards was security so we will continue to work with them to

:02:20.:02:25.

insure we can provide the security that we need. Dorset police are

:02:25.:02:29.

also supplying officers' to plug the gaps that Olympic sites, but

:02:29.:02:33.

because Weymouth council employed are different contractor, security

:02:33.:02:37.

elsewhere in the town will not be affected. Thames Valley Police have

:02:37.:02:43.

been called Arne on the Berkshire border and in Surrey, extra

:02:43.:02:47.

officers were drafted into Cycling venues. The force says that from

:02:47.:02:52.

today they are no longer affected by the problems at G4S. G4S say

:02:52.:02:56.

they hope to have enough personnel to relieve all police in coming

:02:56.:02:59.

days. Thousands of NHS staff in the South

:02:59.:03:02.

West could be facing pay cuts after a group of Hospital Trusts got

:03:02.:03:06.

together to put forward a cost cutting plan. The consortium of 20

:03:06.:03:09.

hospitals includes Poole, Bournemouth and Salisbury. In a

:03:09.:03:12.

leaked document, pay cuts of up to 5% have been proposed for doctors,

:03:13.:03:15.

nurses and other staff, although the lowest paid workers would be

:03:15.:03:18.

exempt. One suggested option is to sack staff who refused to accept

:03:18.:03:22.

new lower pay contracts. These were the views of people outside Poole

:03:22.:03:31.

hospital. They are stretched, stress and

:03:31.:03:35.

overwork as it is. They are trying to do the best work they can with

:03:35.:03:40.

the conditions at the moment. I think that would make matters worse.

:03:40.:03:44.

They probably have their own families to support. The jobs these

:03:44.:03:50.

people do in hospitals are amazing. It is really wrong. You don't see

:03:50.:03:56.

MPs or bankers taking pay cuts. As service like the NHS which is vital

:03:56.:03:58.

for the community and country should not be cut.

:03:58.:04:01.

A little earlier I spoke to Joanne Kaye, the South West Regional

:04:01.:04:04.

Secretary for UNISON, the union representing many health workers. I

:04:04.:04:07.

began by asking her why pay shouldn't be cut in areas with a

:04:07.:04:15.

lower cost of living? It will be people working in front line

:04:15.:04:21.

services to patients, people working on 247 shifts that will be

:04:21.:04:25.

most affected. Some of the work that we have done show that around

:04:25.:04:31.

80% of patient contact is done by the lowest-paid staff on bands 1-4.

:04:31.:04:35.

It is likely it will be the lowest paid most badly affected by

:04:35.:04:40.

proposals. The trust themselves are saying that, if this is the case

:04:40.:04:45.

and it has to go through and they have got to reduce costs, one way

:04:45.:04:48.

of doing it is cutting pay otherwise it means cutting jobs,

:04:48.:04:54.

doesn't it? Their last year's figures show that the trust over

:04:54.:04:59.

all art 62 million in the black. Many of them have turned around

:04:59.:05:03.

serious financial positions to being in a better place. They have

:05:03.:05:07.

done that by working with staff in the trust to make sure they are

:05:07.:05:11.

efficient. The problem is, they may lose the goodwill of staff that

:05:11.:05:16.

will allow them to make efficiency savings which means services to

:05:16.:05:21.

patients would be affected. Isn't it fair to say that pay has got to

:05:21.:05:27.

affect cost of living? Hasn't a pay cut to reflect that and the public

:05:27.:05:31.

sector? The South West does not have a lower cost of living than

:05:31.:05:36.

the south-east. Families are struggling and there cut to cost-

:05:36.:05:41.

of-living could send them over the edge. These 20 trusts that have got

:05:41.:05:46.

together are clearly stelae in their resolve, aren't they? Yes, so

:05:46.:05:51.

are we. Trade unions that represent workers across the NHS are

:05:51.:05:55.

determined to defend conditions and defend patients.

:05:56.:05:58.

Meanwhile one social services department is working out how to

:05:58.:06:00.

recover from the consequences of cutting pay. Southampton Council

:06:00.:06:03.

has admitted it lost more than a third of children's services staff

:06:03.:06:06.

during last year's industrial dispute. Today they held an open

:06:06.:06:10.

day to try to fill the vacancies. Our Political Editor Peter Henley

:06:10.:06:20.
:06:20.:06:20.

reports. Good social workers are not easy to

:06:20.:06:25.

find. The open day in Southampton was popular with graduates, but

:06:25.:06:29.

they have a shortage of experienced that. Social workers were among

:06:29.:06:33.

those on strike last year after a pay cut Conservatives said would

:06:33.:06:38.

protect jobs. Many left for more money in neighbouring authorities.

:06:38.:06:43.

It is unfortunate we have had so many at once. In the last six to 12

:06:43.:06:48.

months we have lost more staff then we would like. We have been able to

:06:48.:06:53.

replace those of valuable agency workers, but that has left us with

:06:53.:06:59.

30% of our posts vacant. After the Baby P case, schools and charities

:06:59.:07:03.

are being extra careful dealing with youngsters. Councils are

:07:03.:07:07.

struggling dealing with up to a third more referrals.

:07:07.:07:12.

Local authorities need experience staff most and they don't hesitate

:07:12.:07:16.

to pay more to poach the staff they need.

:07:16.:07:20.

This open day was Southampton's way of fighting back, getting

:07:20.:07:24.

applicants from as far away as Manchester and York. They usually

:07:24.:07:28.

think it is child-protection taking children away, but it is completely

:07:28.:07:33.

different. You are working with emotions, vulnerable people I want

:07:33.:07:37.

to deliver the best service. This department has a majority of social

:07:37.:07:41.

workers with less than two years' experience. They believe that by

:07:41.:07:50.

hiring the latest graduates they can build a fresh, new team.

:07:50.:07:56.

It is 11 days to go until the start of the Olympic Games. As we have

:07:56.:08:02.

seen, that athletes have started to arrive at venues. The Olympic Torch

:08:02.:08:07.

Relay carries on, this is a 59 and it has moved from Hampshire into

:08:07.:08:15.

his Sussex. Tony Husband is waiting for it now.

:08:15.:08:19.

Day 59 and the crowds keep coming to see this remarkable Olympic

:08:19.:08:25.

Torch Relay. Look at the same here tonight. Normally home to Sussex

:08:25.:08:29.

County Cricket Club, they have had great seems bound Leah celebrating

:08:30.:08:36.

cricketing success. Tonight the hometown boy is, the result kicks

:08:36.:08:41.

ass and a -- entertaining the crowd. A local woman from Worthing is

:08:41.:08:46.

going to be lighting the cauldron. The day started with the torch in

:08:46.:08:50.

Hampshire, took in cultural landmarks and the famous old

:08:50.:09:00.
:09:00.:09:03.

football stadium. The Lord Mayor dance, children sang

:09:03.:09:08.

and the Olympic torch started its journey in the hands of John

:09:08.:09:13.

Jenkins. He has been supporting the club here for half a century. What

:09:13.:09:18.

was going through your mind? don't know, I think my mind was

:09:18.:09:23.

blank. The rain was not doing the runners any favours as a torch

:09:23.:09:29.

headed to Petersfield. Then down the A27 to Midhurst where Susan her

:09:29.:09:34.

bed enjoyed well deserved cuddles. Bennett was on to Petworth with

:09:34.:09:41.

hundreds of cheering youngsters. A young carer, Ryan, carried the

:09:41.:09:45.

torch into the sculpture park. first I didn't realise how big it

:09:45.:09:51.

was unknown nearer to the moment I felt very proud and very lucky.

:09:51.:09:55.

former chairman of the sports charity created his own living

:09:55.:10:00.

sculpture. In Chester, there were big crowds and more dancing and

:10:00.:10:06.

some very happy torch bearers. sea of people was incredible.

:10:06.:10:11.

Absolutely brilliant. The streets were lined. I have never smiled and

:10:11.:10:17.

had so many people say hello. It was brilliant. In bulk the Regis,

:10:18.:10:23.

the torch was carried by Sally Gunnell. There were huge and

:10:23.:10:28.

enthusiastic crowds and Arundel and plenty of cheers for Claire Forbes

:10:28.:10:33.

from Crawley who lost both her legs after contracting meningitis. It

:10:33.:10:40.

might have been a wet day, but it has not dampened the Olympic spirit.

:10:40.:10:48.

Plenty of rain in Hove today but the crowd ignoring that. Robin

:10:48.:10:51.

Cousins figure-skating gold medallist, one of the last torch-

:10:51.:10:55.

bearer us today, will hope Elysee the cauldron it later in the

:10:55.:10:58.

programme. We will join you then.

:10:58.:11:03.

Billions of pounds will be invested in the south's railways. An

:11:03.:11:05.

electrified link from Southampton to the Midlands could transform

:11:05.:11:07.

passenger services. It could also dramatically decrease the amount of

:11:07.:11:10.

freight on the roads. And there's more. Our Transport Correspondent,

:11:10.:11:12.

Paul Clifton, is here. Talk us through the details.

:11:12.:11:15.

What we're getting is an electric rail spine the length of the

:11:15.:11:18.

country. We already knew the diesel Great Western line would be

:11:18.:11:21.

electrified. Today we learned the busy route from Southampton to the

:11:21.:11:23.

Midlands would be electrified too. Including the disused east-west

:11:23.:11:29.

route from Oxford. A new link from the west into Heathrow is confirmed.

:11:29.:11:32.

This opens up a huge range of options for passenger journeys from

:11:32.:11:38.

the south. It could also pave the way for a steady increase in

:11:38.:11:40.

freight going by rail from Southampton docks, taking lorries

:11:40.:11:45.

off the roads. It is all due to happen by 2019 which is, of course,

:11:46.:11:55.

well past the next general election. It is five to seven years away. If

:11:55.:12:01.

it is fully electrified maybe that will mean a move away from diesel

:12:01.:12:05.

to electric and that time frame. think it shows the government is

:12:05.:12:09.

intent on doing major projects that a lot of people in industry have

:12:09.:12:13.

been saying for many years is needed.

:12:13.:12:15.

The government says the money will come from above-inflation fare

:12:15.:12:17.

increases and from as-yet unspecified savings in the railway.

:12:17.:12:20.

Now the platforms at Waterloo station will be made longer as well,

:12:20.:12:23.

to take longer commuter trains. And there's a suggestion that all

:12:23.:12:25.

electric third rails across southern England, could eventually

:12:25.:12:31.

be replaced with overhead wires. For that, every train would have to

:12:31.:12:37.

be modified. Add that to the work underway already at Reading, and

:12:37.:12:40.

new intercity trains there, and we are looking at billions of pounds

:12:40.:12:43.

in this region. A transformation of the railway and genuinely very

:12:43.:12:48.

exciting. A decision on a wind farm on the

:12:48.:12:50.

Isle of Wight will be made by councillors tonight. Planning

:12:51.:12:55.

officers have recommended a refusal. They say putting turbines at Wellow

:12:55.:12:58.

will have too great an impact on the landscape, and on the people

:12:58.:13:01.

living nearby. But the developer, Infinergy, says it is a suitable

:13:01.:13:05.

location. Still to come in this evening's

:13:05.:13:13.

South Today: Children at Arundel greeting the Torch with their very

:13:13.:13:21.

own song. A year-long pilot scheme to protect

:13:22.:13:26.

women from partners with a violent history starts in Wiltshire today.

:13:26.:13:29.

It's become known as Clare's Law - after Clare Wood, a woman who was

:13:29.:13:34.

killed by a former boyfriend. Wiltshire is among four places to

:13:34.:13:39.

put the new law into practice. The Home Office says each week two

:13:39.:13:43.

women are killed by partners and ex-partners.

:13:43.:13:46.

The first results of the 2011 census show that the population of

:13:46.:13:51.

South East England grew by more than 7% in a decade. It remains the

:13:51.:13:56.

largest region in England with over 8.5 million people. The South West

:13:56.:13:59.

now has more than five million residents. Christchurch still has

:13:59.:14:02.

the greatest proportion of people over retirement age - it's 30% of

:14:02.:14:06.

the people who live there. Once again, Portsmouth is the most

:14:06.:14:11.

densely populated city outside London.

:14:11.:14:14.

Plans have been revealed for a new outdoor events arena on

:14:14.:14:17.

Bournemouth's waterfront. It would be built on the site occupied by

:14:17.:14:21.

the former IMAX cinema. The borough council says the arena could be

:14:21.:14:23.

used for everything from extreme sports to performances by the

:14:23.:14:28.

Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Members of the public have until

:14:28.:14:38.
:14:38.:14:38.

the 10th of August to give their views on the scheme.

:14:38.:14:43.

Earlier than normal because we are awaiting the arrival of the torch

:14:43.:14:46.

at the cricket ground and Alexis is here.

:14:46.:14:52.

It has been a bit wet for the torch, but there is a hint that we might

:14:52.:14:56.

see summertime next week. High pressure building in.

:14:56.:14:59.

Robert Stidworthy captured a yacht and crew leaving Ocean Village in

:14:59.:15:01.

Southampton under grey skies. And Loraine Pitt took this photo of

:15:02.:15:09.

two woodpeckers enjoying the rain two woodpeckers enjoying the rain

:15:09.:15:12.

in Three Legged Cross in Dorset. The torch journey this morning did

:15:12.:15:20.

have a damp start and a few places. Actually, this ferrets were highly

:15:20.:15:24.

and tonight the showers will fade away. We will see coastal fog and

:15:24.:15:30.

hilltop mist over the South Downs. A mild night to come with a low of

:15:30.:15:36.

14 to 16 Celsius. Tomorrow is a better day despite murky conditions

:15:36.:15:40.

first thing. We may have drizzle in places, but it should stay dry for

:15:40.:15:49.

most of us. In the sunshine there will be a high of 21 Celsius.

:15:49.:15:54.

Better news for the torch which starts out here tomorrow it should

:15:54.:16:01.

be a dry start with cloud around. What can we expect tomorrow night,

:16:01.:16:07.

it it is a repeat performance of tonight. A dry night for most of us

:16:07.:16:12.

with showers around. There is a band of rain did the West with

:16:12.:16:16.

another mild night to come. Wednesday, that is when the weather

:16:16.:16:21.

front will whisk its wake Eastwards Clearing of to the Continent. It

:16:21.:16:26.

should be an improving picture with Shell was dotted about. Longer

:16:26.:16:31.

spells of rain at times and thundery showers possible on

:16:31.:16:36.

Thursday. By Friday it is hoped that high pressure will build in

:16:36.:16:39.

from the Atlantic meaning that Friday will start wet, but it will

:16:39.:16:44.

improve as the day wears on. Sunshine by the end of the day and

:16:44.:16:50.

the wind remains light. Here is a summary. Murky conditions tomorrow

:16:50.:16:56.

morning, sunny spells by that afternoon and a warm day to come.

:16:56.:17:00.

Wednesday will see a few showers dotted about with longer spells of

:17:00.:17:06.

rain. Thundery showers on Thursday, a damp start on Friday that an

:17:06.:17:11.

improving picture. Thank you very much for that. In a

:17:11.:17:15.

moment we would join Tony in Hove as the last runner comes into like

:17:16.:17:19.

the cauldron. Dani Sinha has been keeping an eye

:17:19.:17:22.

on the social media sites and she joins us know. So, what have people

:17:22.:17:24.

been talking about today? Rain dominating most of your

:17:24.:17:28.

conversations online today. This was the soggy scene in Bognor

:17:28.:17:34.

Regis. Just look how much rain there was. So much so the cameraman

:17:34.:17:38.

had to stop to wipe his lens. And the weather wasn't much better in

:17:38.:17:43.

North Bersted. Plenty of waterproofs and umbrellas on show

:17:43.:17:45.

there. As always, people of all ages came

:17:45.:17:52.

out to welcome the torch. These are pupils from the City of Portsmouth

:17:52.:17:55.

Girls' School who were up early in Portsmouth to line the route.

:17:55.:17:56.

Portsmouth to line the route. Students from Midhurst Rother

:17:56.:17:59.

College came out in force too, armed with their flags. And the

:17:59.:18:02.

rain didn't seem to put off staff and patients at Midhurst Community

:18:02.:18:05.

Hospital who enjoyed seeing the torch go past their area.

:18:05.:18:07.

Well, considering the weather has been pretty appalling, it's amazing

:18:07.:18:11.

to see these crowds in Arundel. I think this probably rivals crowds

:18:11.:18:17.

we've seen before. And a multi- storey car park in Worthing was a

:18:17.:18:21.

favourite vantage point among spectators. Let's get a flavour of

:18:21.:18:25.

your tweets again mainly focusing on the weather.

:18:25.:18:28.

Former Olympian, Sally Gunnell, who ran in Bognor Regis in tweets:

:18:28.:18:38.
:18:38.:18:58.

If you want to get on air, send your pics and videos to the

:18:58.:19:01.

addresses on your screen now. And don't forget, you can go to our

:19:01.:19:08.

Facebook page to see our gallery of pictures across the week.

:19:08.:19:12.

And, of course, the Torch relay just keeps going seven days a week.

:19:12.:19:16.

This weekend it called at the Isle of Wight and two of our biggest

:19:16.:19:26.
:19:26.:19:27.

cities on the South coast. Rachael Canter has some of the highlights.

:19:27.:19:34.

A jam-packed weekend of sightseeing. Huge crowds in Christchurch and the

:19:34.:19:37.

noisy reception in Brockenhurst before heading to the Isle of Wight

:19:37.:19:44.

for a ride on the chairlift. Three Newport with Sheila Ingram. It is

:19:44.:19:54.

absolutely fantastic. 1, 2, 3! Spectators were in fine voice at

:19:54.:19:58.

Osborne House. Before Ellen McArthur delivered the torch back

:19:58.:20:04.

to the ferry. It was a real honour to hold that because it is a bigger

:20:04.:20:09.

Olympic emblem. A huge welcome in Southampton where 12 year-old Kyle

:20:09.:20:15.

Jones, who has cerebral palsy, was flanked by his fans. Thousands

:20:15.:20:21.

headed for the main event at Mayflower Park. Her the Olympic

:20:21.:20:27.

flame burns in Southampton tonight! Sunday and the flame paid a visit

:20:27.:20:32.

to the Channel Islands arriving back in Southampton to a Special

:20:32.:20:36.

Olympics song. 2 Fareham and Gosport before the flame was

:20:36.:20:43.

carried by Jonathan ban berthed for its big moment at Southsea Common.

:20:43.:20:49.

What a wonderful weekend. It is on its way to her if, Sussex County

:20:49.:20:53.

Cricket Ground. I understand it is making its way along Brighton

:20:53.:20:58.

seafront? Yes, the last runner, Karen west

:20:58.:21:04.

from Worthing, she has a torch and is on the way here. She is going to

:21:04.:21:10.

have a fantastic reception when she gets here as well. Let's talk a

:21:10.:21:13.

little better about legacy because that is so important for the

:21:13.:21:19.

Olympic Games. It was a special day for two schools today. Arundel

:21:19.:21:23.

Church of England School and St Philip's primary school. They had

:21:23.:21:31.

their moment to shine in Sussex. From the playing field, in the art

:21:31.:21:38.

room, during history lessons and music classes. The Olympics are

:21:38.:21:43.

everywhere at this school and today the torches in town. Every child

:21:43.:21:48.

has been excited because they have been inspired by topics at school.

:21:48.:21:52.

They are looking forward and learning from it. Anticipation has

:21:52.:21:57.

been building for weeks. I think lots of people will be cheering,

:21:57.:22:02.

lots of happy faces. For how quiet to be singing on the day is really

:22:02.:22:12.
:22:12.:22:21.

The song is called aspire to inspire. It is kind of like you are

:22:21.:22:25.

going for your goal in life and how you will spread your wings and try

:22:25.:22:35.
:22:35.:22:49.

It is getting closer and we can bring it before 7pm. The last

:22:49.:22:53.

torch-bearer is making their way and we will give you live pictures

:22:53.:23:00.

in a moment. Let's have one more torch-bearer story. Chris Lynch was

:23:00.:23:03.

a policeman and missed his Sussex five years ago. He threw himself

:23:03.:23:08.

into the local community wanted to set up a youth club, but did not

:23:08.:23:18.
:23:18.:23:35.

have a venue so he and his friends I was a policeman for 30 years the

:23:35.:23:41.

move down here about five years ago. I am going to be a torch-bearer, it

:23:41.:23:47.

is fantastic. I was nominated by my colleagues in the youth forum for

:23:47.:23:53.

my work with the youth bus. We wanted premises and that is still

:23:53.:23:58.

the long-term aim, but out of the blue found this burst so we drove

:23:58.:24:04.

it down and the prisoners decorated it as you see. There are lots of

:24:04.:24:11.

provisions for games and they do lots of craft. We get 8-13 year-old

:24:11.:24:21.

son they are great. They love it and are willing to help.

:24:21.:24:27.

Another torch-bearer, Amy Wilton, a girl who was diagnosed with

:24:27.:24:32.

diabetes and Hastie inject insulin four times a day. It did not stop

:24:32.:24:36.

her bouncing back in life. She is going to college in September and

:24:36.:24:42.

she was chosen as a youth ambassador for a diabetes charity.

:24:42.:24:52.
:24:52.:24:55.

She had a very special moment and here is her story.

:24:55.:25:01.

There are diabetes Research Foundation asked my dad to do a

:25:01.:25:07.

speech about having a child with type 1 diabetes. I was 12 at the

:25:07.:25:13.

time and I said, if you are talking about me, why can't I say it? So

:25:13.:25:20.

they were happy for me to do the speech myself. I was fortunate in

:25:20.:25:24.

2090 be the only UK diabetic to go to the children's Congress in

:25:24.:25:29.

Washington DC. We were invited to the White House and President Obama

:25:29.:25:33.

showed his support and why more funding needs to be set aside for

:25:33.:25:39.

research. Basically, everything you eat you have to do a blood test

:25:39.:25:44.

before and work out the correct ratio of insulin to the amount of

:25:44.:25:50.

carbohydrate. If I go art I have to think, do I have snacks, tablets,

:25:50.:25:55.

my insolent and my phone to contact my parents. My mum nominated me. I

:25:55.:26:01.

am running in Midhurst on 16th July. I am nervous and excited because I

:26:02.:26:09.

am clumsy, but it should be fantastic. Aymes big moment came

:26:09.:26:16.

today. Let's take a look at her running with the torch. You can see

:26:16.:26:21.

the crowds really turned out. Wonderful stuff. Look at the smile

:26:21.:26:29.

on her face. Lovely fair Amy. Good luck and she moves on to college.

:26:29.:26:33.

The music is rolling and I think we might have a torch bearer on the

:26:33.:26:37.

way. Let's look down in the corridor and I'm hoping we can see

:26:38.:26:47.
:26:48.:26:49.

our final torch-bearer of the day. Then she is. This is Karen West.

:26:49.:26:59.
:26:59.:27:03.

Karen is from Worthing and she is a nursing sister. She looks after

:27:03.:27:09.

cancer patients. She is making her way down in front of a packed crowd

:27:09.:27:15.

at the County Ground in Hove. Look at that scene. Superb stuff. She

:27:15.:27:20.

will get on the stage and we will have a countdown. I tell you what,

:27:20.:27:27.

I think I know what comes next, don't you? If you are up for it we

:27:27.:27:34.

will try and do it once more. She is upon the stage. A big wave for

:27:34.:27:44.
:27:44.:27:45.

everyone. Karen, you know what you have to do, here we go. Five, 4, 3,

:27:45.:27:55.
:27:55.:28:16.

It is Sussex by the sea, it is all about the cold and tonight though.

:28:16.:28:23.

Well done to Karen West. Her moment to shine. The County Ground and

:28:23.:28:28.

Sussex moment to shine as well. Tremendous scenes. The in Olympic

:28:28.:28:33.

relay has caught the imagination of the self. More wonderful images

:28:33.:28:38.

tonight as the rain falls in Hove. I am going to lie down for a couple

:28:38.:28:43.
