Hello, I'm Sally Taylor. Welcome to South Today. In tonight's | :00:00. | :00:09.
programme... On the march. Shipyard workers protest in the centre of | :00:10. | :00:12.
Portsmouth this evening over the loss of more than 1,000 jobs. | :00:13. | :00:16.
They've been in the job a year, but do you know what your police | :00:17. | :00:20.
commissioner does? Desperate for news. The Filipino | :00:21. | :00:23.
families here trying to find out what's happening back home. It is | :00:24. | :00:33.
hard because I would like to know if they are alive or dead. It is very | :00:34. | :00:39.
hard. And sharpening their spurs. The | :00:40. | :00:42.
premier club ruffling the feathers of Fleet Spurs over their logo. It | :00:43. | :00:48.
is a mighty premiership club, in essence, pressing a tiny local club | :00:49. | :00:50.
to get what they want. Hundreds of people have gathered in | :00:51. | :01:00.
Portsmouth this evening to protest against last week's announcement | :01:01. | :01:03.
that around a thousand jobs are to go at the city's shipbuilding yard. | :01:04. | :01:12.
The GMB Union says it hopes 200 jobs can be saved and today local | :01:13. | :01:14.
politicians from all parties have come together with their calls for | :01:15. | :01:18.
the way forward. Joe Campbell is live outside Portsmouth Guildhall, | :01:19. | :01:26.
Joe. It is hard to believe that it is now | :01:27. | :01:30.
a week since this announcement that came as such are below to the people | :01:31. | :01:34.
of Portsmouth. In that time, the unions have been up to the | :01:35. | :01:38.
Farnborough headquarters and this morning, they relate the outcome of | :01:39. | :01:42.
those talks to these mass meetings here in the dockyard, and grim news | :01:43. | :01:46.
it was. It was because of that, that there was such a turn out in the | :01:47. | :01:50.
Guildhall Square tonight. It has been a long day in | :01:51. | :01:53.
Portsmouth. Many people gathered here tonight have been in the | :01:54. | :01:58.
dockyard first thing for the mass meetings. The news just forces the | :01:59. | :02:02.
resolve to turn out on a chilled November night. It has got to be | :02:03. | :02:06.
done. If you do not stand up and start speaking for what you believe | :02:07. | :02:10.
is correct, then you might as well just roll over and play dead. We | :02:11. | :02:15.
have to show them we will not lay down, really. What is happening to | :02:16. | :02:20.
the community is devastating, it has got to stop. Today, the Prime | :02:21. | :02:24.
Minister was asked to come here and here held guaranteeing work on a | :02:25. | :02:28.
vessel might give vital breathing space to the port. If we could get | :02:29. | :02:34.
that contract, it gives us more time to find alternative to ship holding | :02:35. | :02:41.
or to see if something is on the horizon so we can build these type | :02:42. | :02:45.
26 frigates that will come online after 2016. They say that basing the | :02:46. | :02:51.
operation in one place reduces the opportunity to face other demands on | :02:52. | :02:55.
ship building will stop once the building programme is underway, they | :02:56. | :02:59.
ask how the government will cope logistically and financially in the | :03:00. | :03:04.
event of delays in export orders. But many know that the clock is | :03:05. | :03:08.
ticking here, and the move towards closure is gathering pace. | :03:09. | :03:14.
What is happening is sure to be a major issue with British | :03:15. | :03:18.
shipbuilding. BBC question Time comes from the Guildhall later this | :03:19. | :03:23.
evening. But we're joined by the GMB union, Mr Heritage, there is a | :03:24. | :03:28.
feeling that this is a juggernaut and it will be difficult to stop | :03:29. | :03:32.
this? That is a tactic that BAE Systems want to put forward. What | :03:33. | :03:37.
emerged from the discussions on Monday and Tuesday this week was | :03:38. | :03:42.
that BAE Systems had looked at 42 options but only presented one | :03:43. | :03:46.
option to the government, and unfortunately, that one option was | :03:47. | :03:50.
to close down the yard. The situation is that lots of people | :03:51. | :03:53.
said this was about Scottish independence and the vote next year, | :03:54. | :03:57.
the situation is that logician to saying it could all be returned to | :03:58. | :04:01.
Portsmouth. If this happens, the beer would not be a Portsmouth to | :04:02. | :04:07.
pull it back to. `` there would not be. This is about manufacturing in | :04:08. | :04:13.
general. They have no policy or strategy. They are quite prepared to | :04:14. | :04:19.
close not just the shipyard, but a close industry in this country. This | :04:20. | :04:25.
is because of some minor political gain. Thank you for joining us. The | :04:26. | :04:30.
unions would be marching here this weekend and also next week as they | :04:31. | :04:36.
carry on their campaign. The northbound A34 will be closed | :04:37. | :04:40.
near Newbury this evening for repair work after a serious accident this | :04:41. | :04:43.
morning. A lorry involved in the crash was gutted by fire as rush | :04:44. | :04:46.
hour approached, prompting police to close the entire road for over three | :04:47. | :04:49.
hours. It's hoped the northbound repairs will be finished by 6am | :04:50. | :04:52.
tomorrow. The judge in the trial of a woman | :04:53. | :04:56.
accused of knocking down and killing a lollipop man who was on duty has | :04:57. | :05:00.
dismissed the jury after they failed to reach a verdict. 22`year`old | :05:01. | :05:02.
Lauren Paul from Waterlooville denies causing death by careless | :05:03. | :05:14.
driving. Tom Hepworth reports. Ray was hit INS and Micra in | :05:15. | :05:21.
Waterlooville. He was wearing high visibility clothing and had his | :05:22. | :05:25.
lollipop with him as he was on duty. He suffered serious head and chest | :05:26. | :05:29.
injuries and was airlifted to the hospital in Southampton but died | :05:30. | :05:33.
shortly afterwards. Jury of seven women and five men spent nearly four | :05:34. | :05:37.
and a half hours deliberating, but were unable to reach a majority | :05:38. | :05:42.
verdict. They were discharged. Lauren Paul, same here with her for | :05:43. | :05:46.
that, broke down in tears. The judge told the jury that it is one of | :05:47. | :05:51.
those things that it is a reflection of all juror is being chewed to | :05:52. | :05:56.
their own, it is not something that you should approach as elsewhere. `` | :05:57. | :06:01.
being true to their old. It retried is due to be likely in the next | :06:02. | :06:07.
year. `` a retrial is due. One year ago, the elections for | :06:08. | :06:10.
police commissioners was billed as the most radical reform of policing | :06:11. | :06:14.
in 50 years. These five men and one woman are the south's police and | :06:15. | :06:17.
crime commissioners. Today PCCs from across the country gathered in | :06:18. | :06:20.
London to discuss how they can increase public confidence in | :06:21. | :06:22.
policing. Here, there's been criticism about who some PCCs have | :06:23. | :06:25.
appointed to work with them and doubts over whether they've actually | :06:26. | :06:28.
saved money. Our Home Affairs correspondent, Alex Forsyth reports. | :06:29. | :06:37.
They were elected as a voice for the people, someone to lead the fight | :06:38. | :06:41.
against crime in local communities, so after 12 months in the job, what | :06:42. | :06:46.
impact do people in the South believe that these Police and Crime | :06:47. | :06:52.
Commissioners have had? Not a lot. I think it is useless. I do not see | :06:53. | :06:59.
the point, I think of we have any money to spend to improve policing, | :07:00. | :07:03.
it should begin into the police. All of the commissioners in the south of | :07:04. | :07:07.
try to engage with people by holding and attending a number of public | :07:08. | :07:11.
meetings, like this neighbourhood watch Forum in Hampshire. They say | :07:12. | :07:15.
that efforts to raise awareness of their role is paying off. 12 months | :07:16. | :07:20.
has gone very quickly, but the work that we have done, that my office | :07:21. | :07:23.
has done, the engagement we have with the public, it is beginning to | :07:24. | :07:30.
explain to people what I am about as Police and Crime Commissioner and | :07:31. | :07:32.
how we can work together to create better amenities and bring about | :07:33. | :07:35.
social change across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. The commissioners | :07:36. | :07:41.
said the policing plans and holds the purse strings so they can look | :07:42. | :07:44.
after the local forces. Indoor said they had been looking at Marine | :07:45. | :07:48.
crime and helping victims, and in Sussex they are recruiting new | :07:49. | :07:56.
police officers. `` in Dorset, they have been looking at Marine crime. | :07:57. | :08:00.
They are also looking at reworking the police state. In the Thames | :08:01. | :08:05.
Valley, rule and serious organised is at the top of the list. `` roll | :08:06. | :08:13.
roll and serious. Things get done much quicker, I think the public | :08:14. | :08:16.
concerns would be reflected much quicker. In the south, the | :08:17. | :08:21.
commissioners, office and staff costs are less than the previous | :08:22. | :08:25.
police authority, but not by much. In total, by ?7.3 million per year, | :08:26. | :08:33.
instead of ?7.6 million. Some have appointed deputies and assistance, | :08:34. | :08:35.
others have not, but they all have to work with the Chief Constable. My | :08:36. | :08:42.
role is to make sure that the relationship is as professional as | :08:43. | :08:46.
possible, and to have a good relationship, but one with tension, | :08:47. | :08:50.
it is somebody having a critical overview, the critical friend that | :08:51. | :08:54.
we need to listen to and try to respond. Some of the commissioners | :08:55. | :08:58.
in the south have been questioned over things like expenses and | :08:59. | :09:02.
spending, but none have faced the same controversy or public rows as | :09:03. | :09:06.
have played commissioners elsewhere. But are they as | :09:07. | :09:08.
transparent and accountable as was hoped? We looked at the 25 factors | :09:09. | :09:16.
that by law, the police commissioner should put on their websites. If | :09:17. | :09:19.
they were the football team, they would be very much challenging for | :09:20. | :09:22.
the Champions League place, the other officers in the region, they | :09:23. | :09:27.
would be mid`table, doing quite well. Could do a bit better. The | :09:28. | :09:32.
current Police and Crime Commissioners will be imposed until | :09:33. | :09:36.
2016, the true test of whether they have impressed the public will be at | :09:37. | :09:39.
the ballot box. Divers have been searching the River | :09:40. | :09:42.
Kennet for stolen goods in Reading. It follows a spate of street | :09:43. | :09:45.
robberies near the towns Ring Road and the Oracle shopping Centre. The | :09:46. | :09:49.
divers, from the Thames Valley force have been using a metal detector to | :09:50. | :09:53.
trawl the mud at the bottom. So far they've found a number of wallets | :09:54. | :09:56.
and handbags, most with ID inside them, which they hope to return to | :09:57. | :10:02.
the people who've been robbed. What the offenders have done is taken | :10:03. | :10:07.
what they wanted, like cash, from the wallet of the handbag that they | :10:08. | :10:10.
have taken. They then discard the handbags and the wallets into the | :10:11. | :10:14.
Reverend, and we have just been looking for what is loved, like cash | :10:15. | :10:18.
cards and things like that. `` wallets into the river. | :10:19. | :10:22.
Six days on from the devastating Typhoon in the Philippines and a | :10:23. | :10:26.
huge international aid effort is now underway. The Prime Minister has | :10:27. | :10:28.
announced that the Portsmouth based aircraft carrier, HMS Illustrious, | :10:29. | :10:31.
will be sent to help survivors. She's expected to arrive there in | :10:32. | :10:35.
around ten days time and is likely to relieve HMS Daring. Meanwhile, | :10:36. | :10:38.
Filipinos in the South continue to wait for news of their loved ones. | :10:39. | :10:41.
For one Hampshire couple, the lack of information about their family | :10:42. | :10:44.
has left them concerned as Katy Austin reports. | :10:45. | :10:47.
This is the Philippines as the Fitzgerald family remember it. | :10:48. | :10:54.
Green, sunny, a place of joy. Sheila Fitzgerald grew up there and still | :10:55. | :10:58.
has a house there. Her extended family still lives on the islands. | :10:59. | :11:03.
But in the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan, she doesn't know what's | :11:04. | :11:13.
become of most of them. Because they are new to this see, I am sure they | :11:14. | :11:17.
are gone. At home near Lymington, Sheila and her husband John are | :11:18. | :11:21.
finding it hard to come to terms with the devastation on the other | :11:22. | :11:24.
side of the world. It is hard, because I would rather know that | :11:25. | :11:27.
they are alive for they are dead. Every time I see food, I do not | :11:28. | :11:33.
truly want to touch it, because I knew that people there, my family, | :11:34. | :11:40.
they don't have any food since this typhoon. With communication hampered | :11:41. | :11:43.
by the Philippines' crippled infrastructure, most information is | :11:44. | :11:46.
coming from news reports and social media. Their daughter has been | :11:47. | :11:49.
appealing on Facebook for information relatives, but they've | :11:50. | :11:58.
had no response so far. The potential for violence, threatening | :11:59. | :12:04.
behaviour, people robbing, stealing, desperate to obtain food, and it | :12:05. | :12:08.
kind of supplies. It is really very disturbing. As relief efforts start | :12:09. | :12:16.
in earnest, the Fitzgeralds hope aid reaches their family in outlying | :12:17. | :12:20.
towns, not just the urban centres. A council care home threatened with | :12:21. | :12:24.
closure has been given a reprieve. There were protests by the relatives | :12:25. | :12:26.
of people with dementia after Hampshire County Council suggested | :12:27. | :12:29.
closing Cranleigh Paddock at Lyndhurst. After consultation | :12:30. | :12:32.
they've decided it will stay open. But the future of three other homes | :12:33. | :12:36.
is still in the balance. The other three in Romsey, Petersfield and | :12:37. | :12:43.
Basingtoke are still likely to shut. Winchester's boom town Festival is | :12:44. | :12:46.
to have its license reviewed, following an investigation into | :12:47. | :12:49.
noise levels by the City Council. The local authority have praised | :12:50. | :12:51.
organisers for putting on a successful music event but say a | :12:52. | :12:55.
review is the best way to secure further improvements. Questions have | :12:56. | :12:58.
still been left unanswered as to the breaches of the noise levels and | :12:59. | :13:02.
also of the time the event was due to finish. | :13:03. | :13:08.
Still to come in this evening's South Today... Ahead of Pudsey's big | :13:09. | :13:11.
night tomorrow, we find out how many of you are fundraising for Children | :13:12. | :13:18.
In Need. Residents at Billingshurst in West | :13:19. | :13:21.
Sussex are angry that a field they were trying to save has been | :13:22. | :13:23.
bulldozed by developers. Bellway Homes, which has permission to build | :13:24. | :13:27.
46 houses, says the work it has started is part of a reptile | :13:28. | :13:30.
trapping exercise and it has done nothing wrong. But, residents say | :13:31. | :13:37.
the firm should have waited for the outcome of a public inquiry to grant | :13:38. | :13:40.
the site Village Green status. Sean Killick reports. | :13:41. | :13:48.
This is how the field in the area once looked, and residents say they | :13:49. | :13:52.
have been used for recreation for decades, but this is the scene here | :13:53. | :13:57.
now. Earlier this year, the developer, Bellway Homes, was | :13:58. | :14:03.
granted planning permission, but the residents that live there, they | :14:04. | :14:06.
applied for it to be given village green status. The inspectors were | :14:07. | :14:11.
due to rule by the end of the year. They are appalled that the developer | :14:12. | :14:15.
has started work before the inspector has published the report. | :14:16. | :14:20.
These fields may not be allowed to be used for building, it may be that | :14:21. | :14:26.
the public enquiry is in our favour and they had to be restored. But in | :14:27. | :14:29.
the meantime, they have just made to did, they have removed wildlife, and | :14:30. | :14:33.
they have done this to prevent people from using these fields. I | :14:34. | :14:39.
think are elected representatives should certainly intervene, because | :14:40. | :14:43.
essentially, they are making a mockery of the consultation | :14:44. | :14:46.
process. They are showing complete and utter contempt for local people. | :14:47. | :14:51.
Bellway Homes says the works that have taken place are connected with | :14:52. | :14:56.
the completion of a reptile trapping and translocation exercise and this | :14:57. | :15:02.
work can be undertaken ahead of a planning application to stop the | :15:03. | :15:04.
wrist no licence for these reptile species concerned, but it should be | :15:05. | :15:08.
noted that a planning permission application is still live in any | :15:09. | :15:14.
event. They say that if village green status is granted, they will | :15:15. | :15:17.
be obliged to return the ground to the original use. | :15:18. | :15:24.
A non`league football club set up over 60 years ago by a group of | :15:25. | :15:27.
ex`soldiers has landed in trouble with the top flight side that | :15:28. | :15:31.
inspired it. Fleet Spurs took their name from Tottenham Hotspur, and | :15:32. | :15:34.
modelled their badge on the north London team. But now they've been | :15:35. | :15:37.
told it has to go. James Ingham reports. | :15:38. | :15:43.
This is no White Hart lane. And life at the lower end of Wessex League | :15:44. | :15:46.
Division One is a world away from there too as Fleet Spurs answer to | :15:47. | :15:49.
Tottenham's Jermaine Defoe knows only too well. I wish I could drive | :15:50. | :15:59.
a car like his, but yes, he is probably on baby AT grand a week, or | :16:00. | :16:07.
so,. `` AT grand a week. I would be happy with a grand! Formed by a | :16:08. | :16:10.
group of ex`soldiers, all Spurs fans, it wasn't just their heroes | :16:11. | :16:15.
name the club founders borrowed. But earlier this year, the lawyers | :16:16. | :16:18.
letters began to land. They made plain, Tottenham's view of the | :16:19. | :16:21.
similar badges were no longer acceptable. And it wasn't the | :16:22. | :16:25.
premier side that was going to change. It is ridiculous, if I am | :16:26. | :16:34.
absolutely honest. It is a mighty premiership club, in essence, | :16:35. | :16:43.
pressing a tiny club using big lawyers, it is very unfair. Bosses | :16:44. | :16:46.
at White Hart Lane accept their stance may seem harsh but add "the | :16:47. | :16:50.
way the law works, if we do not take action to stop Fleet Spurs using our | :16:51. | :16:54.
cockerel logo, it can undermine our ability to stop other unauthorised | :16:55. | :16:57.
people who use our logo for commercial purposes, such as | :16:58. | :16:59.
counterfeiters." Fleet Spurs would love to one day face their namesakes | :17:00. | :17:03.
in the FA cup, but battling their lawyers in court, that would have | :17:04. | :17:04.
been a whole different ball game. I have a feeling that story will run | :17:05. | :17:22.
and run! It sums up sports now, it is such a multi`billion pound | :17:23. | :17:25.
industry and brand protection is so important. We'll start with | :17:26. | :17:31.
football. Rickie Lambert will miss tomorrow | :17:32. | :17:33.
night's friendly between England and Chile. The Southampton striker seen | :17:34. | :17:38.
here speaking yesterday was one of three Saints players named in Roy | :17:39. | :17:41.
Hodgson's squad but has a minor muscle injury. Meanwhile Adam | :17:42. | :17:45.
Lallana and Jay Rodriguez, left and centre of picture here training | :17:46. | :17:48.
today will definitely feature at Wembley tomorrow. I have also spoken | :17:49. | :17:56.
to the boys in Southampton, I have said that Rickie Lambert cannot | :17:57. | :18:00.
play, I have spoken to the other two and said they will feature in the | :18:01. | :18:05.
game, so I am prepared to say that, but that is basically what I will | :18:06. | :18:09.
say about the team formation and the team selection. | :18:10. | :18:12.
The Pompey Supporter's Trust has said the Portsmouth football club | :18:13. | :18:15.
name was shamed by some fans on Tuesday night at Newport. It follows | :18:16. | :18:19.
an incident in the second half in which a smoke bomb was thrown onto | :18:20. | :18:22.
the field. The FA are investigating the affair in the southern area | :18:23. | :18:26.
quarter final tie, and the club who could face a fine, say any fan | :18:27. | :18:29.
responsible could be banned from attending their matches. | :18:30. | :18:33.
One of Britain's top Paralympic rowers has announced her retirement. | :18:34. | :18:39.
Naomi Riches won gold at Dorney Lake last year with the mixed coxed | :18:40. | :18:42.
fours, this year she also added a sixth world title to her collection. | :18:43. | :18:45.
The 30`year`old who is registered blind only started rowing in 2004. A | :18:46. | :18:51.
fantastic career she has had. Hampshire captain Jimmy Adams will | :18:52. | :19:01.
stay in the role for next year. The 33`year`old, who we featured | :19:02. | :19:03.
yesterday considered his position at the end of the season after | :19:04. | :19:06.
Hampshire missed out on their target of promotion from division two. But | :19:07. | :19:10.
he's now confirmed he'll stay on. Meanwhile Adams county colleague | :19:11. | :19:13.
Michael Carberry was out for four in England's final warm up match ahead | :19:14. | :19:16.
of the Ashes against an Australian invitational eleven. It's the last | :19:17. | :19:19.
chance to stake a claim for a place in the series. | :19:20. | :19:22.
Justin Rose shot a two under par opening round on the first day of | :19:23. | :19:26.
the World tour challenge, which will decide Europe's number one golfer | :19:27. | :19:29.
for the year, the so called race to Dubai. Rose is one of four players | :19:30. | :19:33.
who performances this year mean he can top the order of merit. The US | :19:34. | :19:37.
Open champion was three under par at one stage, playing alongside title | :19:38. | :19:40.
rival Henrik Stenson, but dropped a shot late in his round to shoot a | :19:41. | :19:51.
70, that's two under par. One of the Sportsman of the year, | :19:52. | :19:53.
Justin Rose, no doubt. It's just over 24 hours until | :19:54. | :20:02.
Children in Need 2013 gets underway, and across the South fundraising | :20:03. | :20:04.
activities are taking place. All this week we've been following a | :20:05. | :20:07.
group of autistic drummers preparing for a special live charity | :20:08. | :20:17.
performance at Beaulieu tomorrow. Well, as the big day approaches, | :20:18. | :20:20.
Sarah Farmer joined the youngsters as they made their final | :20:21. | :20:34.
preparations. Nerves are running high as the final | :20:35. | :20:40.
rehearsals take place in sub Panton `` Southampton. Lucky you are | :20:41. | :20:47.
enjoying it, look like you are enjoying it! The T`shirt for the | :20:48. | :20:52.
night are distributed, but will they fit? Is that a bit big? I will try | :20:53. | :21:06.
to grab your attention so that you can see me, and we are all looking | :21:07. | :21:11.
at each other, so when we finished, we know when to stop. So, they look | :21:12. | :21:18.
the part. The quires know the lines, the singers are hitting the high | :21:19. | :21:28.
notes. But can the drummers keep in time? The conductor knows it is a | :21:29. | :21:34.
lot to ask. On the night, when it comes together at the cameras are | :21:35. | :21:38.
rolling, and the lights go on, it is down to them. My gestures do not | :21:39. | :21:43.
make any noise. Although they are making noise, some of the children | :21:44. | :21:47.
are noise sensitive and they were ahead regards to all the noise. The | :21:48. | :21:52.
parents are anxious about them getting it right on the night. `` | :21:53. | :21:59.
they were there year defenders to defend the noise. The teachers will | :22:00. | :22:06.
be there, the music teachers, so I am confident they can persuade them. | :22:07. | :22:11.
They have learned social skills, making friends, talking to new | :22:12. | :22:14.
people, that would be all useful when they go back to school. Also, | :22:15. | :22:23.
socially. Music is a team sport and it is no difference to playing | :22:24. | :22:28.
football, rugby cricket, it and is life skills, listening, learning, | :22:29. | :22:40.
compromise. They have to give and take, step forward, go into the | :22:41. | :22:43.
foreground and then go into the background, and that is different | :22:44. | :22:47.
for any child, it is difficult for children to do. The waiting is | :22:48. | :22:53.
tyranny over, but the journey has been a valuable one. `` nearly over. | :22:54. | :23:02.
People can watch it and think, wow, those people are really fantastic, | :23:03. | :23:07.
even though they might have a learning difficulty, and a learning | :23:08. | :23:15.
curve to get through, but it just doesn't make them and need different | :23:16. | :23:19.
to everybody else. We can all fit in the same. | :23:20. | :23:24.
They would be tremendous tomorrow night, and we wish them all of the | :23:25. | :23:28.
best, all of the drummers, they will be fabulous, and we will see you on | :23:29. | :23:31.
the programme doing that live tomorrow night. You are with | :23:32. | :23:39.
Samantha Bond tomorrow, excited? Yes, it could be something special! | :23:40. | :23:50.
We're looking forward to it! She will be in the spirit of Children In | :23:51. | :23:57.
Need. All for charity. Lots of special guests, we would be meeting | :23:58. | :24:01.
them during the evening, and lots of fundraising has been going on. Take | :24:02. | :24:12.
a look at this. The Royal Navy and Portsmouth have had a tyre flipping | :24:13. | :24:20.
challenge. 10,000 tire flips in eight hours. Each person had to flip | :24:21. | :24:24.
continuously for ten minutes at a time. One of the strangest ways to | :24:25. | :24:31.
raise money goes to Chris Taylor who auctioned off a BBC children in need | :24:32. | :24:36.
nameplate at the Solent railway auctions. Southampton University had | :24:37. | :24:48.
the combination of legs waxing and cake sales. Even Pudsey joined in. | :24:49. | :24:54.
They had some cake! Great effort, keep it going for | :24:55. | :24:59.
tomorrow and all through tomorrow night. It has been good weather, | :25:00. | :25:04.
everyone been out fundraising. Yes, Miles, but is turning colder next | :25:05. | :25:10.
week. A potential for some snow showers next week. Stay tuned to the | :25:11. | :25:12.
forecast. This stunning sunrise in Portchester | :25:13. | :25:15.
was captured by Martin Curtis. Derek Cooper took this lovely shot of the | :25:16. | :25:18.
view over East Meon from Butser Hill. And this close up of a | :25:19. | :25:22.
Starling in the sunshine was captured by Maureen Coles in | :25:23. | :25:23.
Gosport. A decent end to the day apart from | :25:24. | :25:34.
the odd shower. Tonight, the wind will ease down, but that means | :25:35. | :25:37.
temperatures will fall away during the latter part of the night, so the | :25:38. | :25:42.
possibility of a frost. The wind will stay strong and ease down and | :25:43. | :25:46.
temperatures dropping to about three degrees. , frosty start for some | :25:47. | :25:54.
people tomorrow, but lots of sunshine. `` a chilly, frosty start. | :25:55. | :26:04.
Temperatures of eight or nine Celsius, in degree or so below the | :26:05. | :26:09.
seasonal average. Tomorrow, the wind will be much lighter than today, so | :26:10. | :26:13.
pleasant in the sunny spells. A lovely and to the day, but with a | :26:14. | :26:19.
light winds and clear skies, damages falling quicker than tonight. A hard | :26:20. | :26:23.
frost with some mist and fog patches and tempered yours in some urban | :26:24. | :26:31.
areas down to freezing, so it could be `4 in the countryside. `` | :26:32. | :26:38.
temperatures. Saturday, some cloud, but the brightness will develop in | :26:39. | :26:42.
the afternoon with one or two showers in western areas, but mainly | :26:43. | :26:46.
drive. The best day of the weekend before this weather front boost to | :26:47. | :26:54.
the south. `` moves to the south. Next week, temperatures will drop | :26:55. | :27:01.
away. Into next week, Tuesday, the temperature will start to become | :27:02. | :27:05.
quite cold with the arctic blast from the North and the potential for | :27:06. | :27:11.
some snow showers in some places. This is the outlook for the weekend | :27:12. | :27:15.
and into next week, a lovely day tomorrow with lots of sunshine and a | :27:16. | :27:23.
lighter wind after a frosty start. The frost on Saturday morning, cloud | :27:24. | :27:26.
over the weekend, and rain later on Sunday. | :27:27. | :27:33.
Winter is on the way. That is it from us, Children In Need | :27:34. | :27:35.
extravaganza tomorrow, also the news of the day. | :27:36. | :27:38.
That is, good night. | :27:39. | :27:40. |
