Good evening, I'm David Allard with the news in the South.

A murder investigation has been launched in a Hampshire town after a

man died of severe head injuries. Police and ambulance crews were

called to Eastleigh high street after a disturbance at half past

four this morning. The injured man was taken to Southampton General

Hospital where he died. Two men have been arrested.

The 35`year`old died from severe head injuries after an encounter

with two men on Eastleigh high street. Today the street was

cordoned off as a police forensic team collected evidence from the

crime scene. We believe he was on his way to work this morning when he

was accosted by two men. The circumstances are extremely tragic.

It is Mother's Day, you know, not a good day. We very memorable occasion

for a lot of people. Unfortunately, for this person's family, it is

memorable for the wrong reasons. Two men aged 22 and 25 are in custody.

This part of town is close to the Swan shopping centre and the

Chamberlayne Arms pub. Police are confident CCTV will reveal exactly

what happened, but they still need the public's help. The offenders

made from the high street towards the Chestnut Avenue area of

Eastleigh. We believe one of the suspects might have lost one of his

shoes. So we are asking for the public to keep buying it out for

shoes in their gardens. If they find them, we will send officers and

recover those. Tomorrow, police are expected to

release the name of the man who died and the results of a postmortem

examination. And in the last few hours Dorset

detectives have also started a murder inquiry following the death

of a woman in Bournemouth. Police were called to an address in St

Michael's Road this afternoon after reports of a serious incident. The

woman, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at the scene. A man

is helping officers with their enquires.

Sussex Police is to be among the first forces to trial a major

shake`up of officer recruitment. Under the scheme, the county can

begin taking on people at the rank of superintendent this week, ending

a 180`year tradition of all officers starting at the level of constable.

Seven forces in England will take on "exceptional" people from outside

policing, straight into positions of leadership.

The Isle of Wight's Better Ferry Campaign says it is making strong

progress in its work to improve ferry services across the Solent.

Community campaign leaders say more than 4,000 islanders have now

offered their support through social media and that the ferry operators

are starting to respond to pressure. Sean Killick reports.

Many people on the Isle of Wight believe they get a rough ride from

the ferry companies, complaining about the cost of fears and

frequency of sailing. Campaigners want a company to buy a stake in

Paul Smith based company working alongside Istria lean investment

bank orders. The campaign says more than 4000 people have contacted it

through social media websites. One person wrote that the ferry

companies are killing people and a thriving community with excessive

costs. Another says we are prisoners on this If any links to the mainland

are vital to the economy and residents and businesses that

operate here. This must be sorted out. The campaign will not go away.

We will become punting `` we will be confronting this issue until we get

a better solution. The ferry companies have to respond. Any

managing director of the ferry companies looks at the comments on

our website with know he has to do something to improve things. The

company was unavailable for comment this weekend, and another company

said it had already made improvements to services and fears,

encoding especial motorhome rate, additional evening ceilings and

better connections for services. A Hampshire college has invited the

public to take part in an archaeological dig this weekend.

Families have helped excavate a wide range of remains found at the Peter

Symonds College in Winchester. Organisers say there has been a

human presence in the area since Palaeolithic times.

And this weekend saw the revival of the Members' Meeting at Goodwood

Motor Circuit. The traditional event at the West Sussex race track hasn't

been seen since the '60s. Vehicles ranging from vintage roadsters to

Formula One cars were on show. Goodwood's Lord March declared the

event a great success. I think this weekend has been really

exciting. Everybody has had a great time. It is then imagine the of the

old members meetings which happened between 1948 and 1966.

And the weather looked lovely in sunny Sussex. Let's see what's in

store with Holly Green. After a lovely weekend, tonight we're seeing

some heavy and thundery showers developing. Have clear spells at the

moment and we could see some missed perhaps forming here and there. But

through the early hours, we see heavy showers working across as. It

is a mild night with lows of 9`11 Celsius. Showers from the word go

tomorrow, they could be heavy and thundery and continue to be a

possibility all day. We should hopefully see fewer showers and a

bit more brightness as we head through the afternoon. It will feel

quite pleasant where that sunshine does break out. Temperatures getting

to the mid`to high teens. Thereafter, the rest of the working

week brings some warm and bright spells but also for the heavy

warmest day of 2014 so far. It has been distinctly chilly on North Sea

coasts of eastern Scotland and north-east England. That chilly

breeze and cloud that has been depressing those temperatures will

are the main thing to watch out for tomorrow.
