Good evening. I'm Roger Finn. A 70`year`old woman who suffered

serious head injuries at a house in West Sussex has died in hospital.

Sandra Boakes was found injtred at the property in Grasmere Avdnue in

Sompting on Thursday. She w`s taken to the Hospital in Brighton but died

last night. A 79`year`old m`n from Sompting appeared at Brighton

Magistrates' Court yesterdax charged with attempted murder.

A man has been killed in a crash on the main road between Oxford and

Swindon. Two lorries and a car were involved in the collision jtst

before 4am this morning on the A420 near Buckland. The fire brigade cut

two people from the wreckagd. A man in his 30s from Swindon was

pronounced dead at the scend. Firefighters from across Berkshire

have spent much of the day trying to save one of the county's most

historic homes after a fire broke out early this morning. Flales

quickly spread from a ground floor kitchen to the roof of Hurst Lodge

near Reading. Joe Campbell reports. Almost 60 firefighters were working

to try and save the historic Hurst Lodge at the height of the fire

Grade Two listed and dating to Tudor times, the property that was last on

the market for almost ?4 million has been extensively refurbished. The

couple who rent the house wdre inside with their two young children

and a nanny when the fire w`s discovered at around 6.30 this

morning. They got out and r`ised the alarm. Our crews went in to try to

fight the roof fire from thd inside. That was particularly hazardous

because one of the floors h`d burnt away. So the floor had burnt away

and they had to take extremd care. The heat in that area was vdry

intense. So the crews that went in, we had eight breathing apparatus at

one stage, they did take quhte a battering. The tenant, who's

believed to be the son of a wealthy Saudi family, went online to thank

the fire service. Agents for the owners were making sure the public

were kept well away. An investigation into the fire is

continuing. A man who raped a teenage ghrl in a

Berkshire wood is being hunted by police. The victim, who is tnder 16,

was alone in Swinley Forest near Bracknell yesterday afternoon when

she was attacked. Additional patrols are being carried out and a "wide

area" of the forest has been cordoned off.

The amount of money being spent by the South East's ambulance service

on private ambulances has increased by 500% in the past four ye`rs. More

than ?10 million was spent on private contractors last ye`r,

compared with less than ?2 lillion four years ago. South East Coast

Ambulance service says they are looking to recruit an addithonal 165

paramedics, as well as training up existing technicians.

Special Constabulary have t`ken over front line duties this weekdnd. Some

70 of the volunteer, part thme police specials are at work. They're

performing command tasks such as deployment. And they're also going

out on patrol with other spdcial officers. A similar exercisd is

happening around the countrx. Though regular police staff are sthll on

duty, they're taking a back seat so that the specials can gain valuable

experience. It will test our resilience and help

identify training needs. Thd officers have already had b`sic

training, so are at a level to be able to gout and do this.

And Britain's Sailors have lade a winning start at the first lajor

regatta of the season. Portland s Giles Scott lived up to his billing

as the "the new Ben Ainslie" winning the Finn class in the World Cup in

Mallorca. Southampton's Par`lympic gold medalist Helena Lucas won in

the 2.4 m. GB also picked up a silver and four bronze medals at the

Good evening, after a fairly mild weekend, a fresher week in store for

the week ahead. Moreshine at times but not a huge amount tomorrow

because that's shaping up to be a wet day for just about all of us.

The rain developing through the night and it is still wet at the

moment in southern counties. Watch how the rain becomes more extensive

and heavier with a strengthening breeze. For northern England and

Northern Ireland, a colder feel to the night. In northern Scotland

there will be temperatures in sheltered spots. A mild start for

Monday. If you escape through the morning commute dry, you will one of

the few. Heavy bursts around. So expect surface water and spray on

faster routes if you are travelling in by car. The winds are a feature

in the south. After a dry start for the early rises, for southern
