spells and it will get warmer -- sunny spells. A story with a happy | :00:00. | :00:00.
ending. The search widens for | :00:00. | :00:00.
a five`year`old boy with a brain tumour who was taken by his parents | :00:00. | :00:11.
from Southampton General Hospital. If he does not receive urgent | :00:12. | :00:24.
medical care or the wrong treatment is given, his condition will become | :00:25. | :00:27.
life`threatening. Concerns over a lack of some | :00:28. | :00:29.
prescription drugs for patients. At the moment there do not seem to | :00:30. | :00:40.
be enough drugs to go around but the exciting of telling people that you | :00:41. | :00:42.
cannot get the right medication that they need has an impact on their | :00:43. | :00:44.
health as well. Tax breaks to boost | :00:45. | :00:45.
the gaming industry with a focus on British heritage and we'll meet | :00:46. | :00:48.
again but sadly not this weekend. The Lancaster reunion that's been | :00:49. | :00:53.
postponed. Recovering from a major operation, | :00:54. | :01:05.
seriously ill from a brain tumour, and with medical equipment feeding | :01:06. | :01:08.
him running out of power. A desperately sick little Hampshire | :01:09. | :01:12.
boy is being searched for on the continent tonight after being taken | :01:13. | :01:15.
out of hospital by his parents. As the search continues, questions | :01:16. | :01:19.
are being asked as to the handling of the case by the hospital, | :01:20. | :01:23.
and the motivation of his parents. Our health correspondent | :01:24. | :01:26.
David Fenton is at David, just tell us what has | :01:27. | :01:28.
happened and what the latest is? What happened was the parents of | :01:29. | :01:44.
this quite seriously ill young boy took him out of hospital yesterday | :01:45. | :01:50.
afternoon, just seven days after surgery for a brain tumour, and they | :01:51. | :01:54.
did not bring him back. This was the moment at 2pm yesterday when he was | :01:55. | :01:59.
brought out in his buggy. You can perhaps see the feeding tube | :02:00. | :02:03.
attached to him there. He was taken on a ferry to France and presumably | :02:04. | :02:12.
he is still somewhere on the continent while a major police | :02:13. | :02:14.
search is underway looking for him and the entire family. We learned | :02:15. | :02:19.
today that the hospital took six and a half hours to alert police to the | :02:20. | :02:23.
fact that he was missing and in the last half`hour we have heard that | :02:24. | :02:27.
the batteries that power his feeding equipment have probably run out so | :02:28. | :02:32.
his condition will deteriorate quite rapidly from now on. | :02:33. | :02:40.
A little boy fighting for life. At his bedside, a loving family. There | :02:41. | :02:45.
is no doubt that Ashya's parents and rest of the family had felt the | :02:46. | :02:51.
strain of the discovery that he had a brain tumour. His big brother | :02:52. | :02:58.
expressed his feelings in a video on YouTube. I have been awake all night | :02:59. | :03:01.
worrying. Everyone is praying for you. We want to see your smile | :03:02. | :03:06.
again. No kid at the age of five years old is praying for you. We | :03:07. | :03:09.
want to see your smile again. No kid at the age of five years old | :03:10. | :03:16.
deserves to have think they should be concerned about his treatment. | :03:17. | :03:21.
Police today said that Ashya been removed without consent and they | :03:22. | :03:25.
have now backtracked and accepted the parents acted within their | :03:26. | :03:31.
rights. To be honest that is not our concern at the moment, our focus is | :03:32. | :03:35.
on recovering Ashya. We can talk about terminology but it does not | :03:36. | :03:40.
matter. All we want to do is appeal to his parents or anyone else in the | :03:41. | :03:43.
public who might know where he ears that there is a desperate need to | :03:44. | :03:57.
ensure that he gets the medical care that he needs. Tonight, as French | :03:58. | :03:59.
police use social media to seek the public's help to find the family, | :04:00. | :04:01.
one legal expert said the hospital would now be viewing them very | :04:02. | :04:04.
differently. I would guess they would have asked the court to make | :04:05. | :04:06.
orders for the return of the child from France to this jurisdiction. | :04:07. | :04:10.
Also, potentially to allow the hospital that is treating the child | :04:11. | :04:15.
to administer any emergency medical care that may be required. But first | :04:16. | :04:21.
Ashya is to be found. Tonight the search continues. Returning to | :04:22. | :04:31.
David, we know that Ashya seriously ill and this feeding equipment has a | :04:32. | :04:35.
battery that is running out. How seriously ill is he? | :04:36. | :04:41.
Well I do not think anyone really knows exactly what his condition is | :04:42. | :04:47.
at the moment, other than that he is in a very dangerous situation. | :04:48. | :04:51.
Generally speaking patients who have had a brain tumour operation are | :04:52. | :04:55.
liable to seizures sometimes, epileptic fits and often they cannot | :04:56. | :05:00.
swallow properly, hence the need for special feeding tubes. They require | :05:01. | :05:03.
a whole range of medication which unless he is in a hospital at the | :05:04. | :05:08.
moment he is probably not getting. Any indication as to why the family | :05:09. | :05:12.
have behaved like this? You know there was a lot of talk | :05:13. | :05:17.
today about Jehovah's Witnesses and religion and whether that was a part | :05:18. | :05:20.
of their decision. The police say they are keeping an open mind on the | :05:21. | :05:24.
matter and Jehovah's Witness groups say there is no indication that it | :05:25. | :05:29.
had anything to do with this case. My observation is that offer me | :05:30. | :05:33.
issue here is around blood transfusion which usually comes | :05:34. | :05:36.
before surgery. Of course Ashya had his surgery seven days ago. | :05:37. | :05:44.
Do we have any explanation as to why there was a six`hour gap before the | :05:45. | :05:48.
police were alerted. That does seem puzzling, doesn't it? | :05:49. | :05:52.
But hospitals are not prisons and patients can leave, even if they are | :05:53. | :05:56.
with their parent `` even if they are children and with their parents. | :05:57. | :06:00.
They can wander around the gardens for several hours so it could be | :06:01. | :06:04.
sometime before the staff realised he was not coming back. They would | :06:05. | :06:08.
then have to search the site and then try to contact the parents and | :06:09. | :06:18.
finally alert the police the hospital have issued a full medical | :06:19. | :06:21.
report to any hospital on the continent that he may go to to help | :06:22. | :06:24.
them but has yet Ashya is still missing and still in danger and the | :06:25. | :06:25.
police are still searching for him. Brittany Ferries has confirmed that | :06:26. | :06:26.
the family were on board the Normandy Express fast | :06:27. | :06:28.
catamaran sailing from Portsmouth to Cherbourg yesterday, | :06:29. | :06:31.
in their grey Hyundai car. The company also says that | :06:32. | :06:33.
the family had declared they were travelling with | :06:34. | :06:35.
a child with special medical needs These pictures posted on YouTube | :06:36. | :06:37.
by Ashya's brother show the family Let's cross to our correspondent | :06:38. | :06:41.
Lucy Williamson in Paris. What can you tell us | :06:42. | :06:49.
about the investigation in France? French police have disseminated | :06:50. | :07:03.
details of the family's vehicle to the media organisations. They have | :07:04. | :07:07.
given a description of the car and the family and given the car | :07:08. | :07:10.
registration number. They have made a point that it is right hand drive | :07:11. | :07:15.
car from the UK so it is different to French cars so they hope people | :07:16. | :07:17.
will come forward. to French cars so they hope people | :07:18. | :07:20.
will come They say they have not had much response. Just that handful of | :07:21. | :07:24.
people have so far called in so they are trying to widen the appeal. They | :07:25. | :07:47.
are not disseminating photos of the boy his family. | :07:48. | :07:49.
They say that doing that often leads to a lot of information coming in | :07:50. | :07:52.
from the public that is not very useful to the police and ties up the | :07:53. | :07:54.
police officers. They are focusing on the car because they think it is | :07:55. | :07:57.
a precise piece of information and if the public can help them find | :07:58. | :08:00.
that vehicle they will find the family. There is an Interpol alert | :08:01. | :08:02.
for the missing boy. How significant is that? | :08:03. | :08:04.
It shows how much information we have at the moment about whether | :08:05. | :08:06.
family is. There is now taught that the family will have had enough time | :08:07. | :08:09.
to drive out of France so they may not be in the country at all the | :08:10. | :08:12.
vice prosecutor is scaling up the search but he is also saying that we | :08:13. | :08:15.
do not actually nowhere in France they are or even if they are in | :08:16. | :08:19.
France. Thank you for joining us this | :08:20. | :08:22.
evening. If you have any information | :08:23. | :08:43.
and his family, you're asked to call Hampshire Police on the 101 number | :08:44. | :08:48.
It's been revealed that patients are waiting weeks for vital prescription | :08:49. | :08:51.
medicines because of a shortage of stock in chemists across the south. | :08:52. | :08:54.
In some cases vital drugs for blood pressure, allergies, and breast | :08:55. | :08:57.
Chemists say the issue is particularly bad here | :08:58. | :09:00.
because of an older population and fluctuations in demand due to | :09:01. | :09:03.
They also warn that lives could be put at risk. | :09:04. | :09:06.
Coming to collect a prescription is routine for many of us. | :09:07. | :09:09.
But what if the drug's not available? | :09:10. | :09:11.
This order will take a few days but some patients have to wait | :09:12. | :09:15.
information this is our latest list of out of stock that we have just | :09:16. | :09:29.
sent. I have several items here that are subject to quotas by | :09:30. | :09:34.
manufacturers. Problems that are rumbling on at the moment are with | :09:35. | :09:37.
adrenaline pens that we do not want to run out of because of serious | :09:38. | :09:40.
consequences resulting, even death. For older drugs the reason | :09:41. | :09:42.
for shortage is simple ` Manufacturers | :09:43. | :09:45.
of new drugs only release a limited amount, a quota, into the UK, to | :09:46. | :09:47.
stop them being sold on at profit. So if individual pharmacies with | :09:48. | :09:51.
specific local needs run out ` At the moment there are not enough | :09:52. | :10:02.
drugs to go round. I spent my whole time on the phone trying to source | :10:03. | :10:05.
medicines from various different suppliers. I have a particular | :10:06. | :10:10.
patient who has gone without his blood`pressure medicine which leads | :10:11. | :10:13.
to a rise in his BP and that potentially puts him at risk of a | :10:14. | :10:15.
heart attack or stroke. The Royal Pharmaceutical Society | :10:16. | :10:17.
says the problem is huge and wants the government to encourage | :10:18. | :10:20.
suppliers to be more flexible. The government will not do anything | :10:21. | :10:29.
because we have a free trade situation in Europe. We say that | :10:30. | :10:32.
actually you should be looking at this because patients are suffering. | :10:33. | :10:37.
They are putting trade before patients which is wrong. | :10:38. | :10:38.
The Department of Health sent us a statement | :10:39. | :10:40.
admitting there are occasionally problems in the supply chain, | :10:41. | :10:42.
but saying it continues to mitigate these problems wherever it can. | :10:43. | :10:52.
Have things improved? I still cannot get medicine for my patients so to | :10:53. | :10:56.
me things have not improved. The Portsmouth Liberal Democrats | :10:57. | :10:58.
have formally chosen Gerald Vernon`Jackson to be | :10:59. | :11:00.
their parliamentary candidate for Portsmouth South | :11:01. | :11:04.
at the next election. The party released this photograph | :11:05. | :11:07.
after the selection was made at Gerald Vernon`Jackson was leader | :11:08. | :11:11.
of Portsmouth City Council for ten years until this summer | :11:12. | :11:17.
when he resigned after The Portsmouth South seat has been | :11:18. | :11:19.
held for a total of 20 years by Mike Hancock, who is currently | :11:20. | :11:25.
suspended from the Lib Dem party. Still to come | :11:26. | :11:38.
in this evening's South Today: The latest from the | :11:39. | :11:40.
Bournemouth Airshow and why a reunion of the last two | :11:41. | :11:42.
flying Lancasters won't now happen. A row has broken out over the | :11:43. | :11:49.
handling of education on the Isle of Hampshire took over services last | :11:50. | :11:53.
year after concerns over pass rates. Now a councillor who speaks | :11:54. | :11:57.
on education for the Conservative group on the island, has criticised | :11:58. | :12:03.
Hampshire over its handling of the It was a day of celebration for many | :12:04. | :12:22.
but overall the schools on the Isle of Wight are down on the number of | :12:23. | :12:33.
pupils achieving good grades, including Carisbrooke College. Last | :12:34. | :12:43.
year we went up 29%. We looked at or out indications and we thought we | :12:44. | :12:46.
would have a slight improvement but we did not. There is a national | :12:47. | :12:50.
picture of volatility, particularly in English, and we went down 14% in | :12:51. | :12:57.
English which had" on our overall headline figures. One councillor | :12:58. | :13:05.
said it should have been picked up. They should have spotted this result | :13:06. | :13:08.
coming down the tracks towards them. It has come as a complete shock and | :13:09. | :13:11.
it should not have happened if proper tacky `` tracking was being | :13:12. | :13:16.
done and data was being challenged as they say it is. The council took | :13:17. | :13:21.
over the running of education on the island last year. It is not their | :13:22. | :13:25.
job to predict our school results, that is our job and based on our | :13:26. | :13:30.
improvements which have been noted especially by the students and the | :13:31. | :13:33.
students say this school is a far better place but it looks as though | :13:34. | :13:36.
the improvements have not had a chance yet to impact on our exam | :13:37. | :13:41.
results but they will in time. This year Isle of Wight schools got the | :13:42. | :13:49.
lowest GCSE results since 2011. It is almost 2% lower than last year. | :13:50. | :13:54.
Hampshire have gone beyond what they first signed up for. They have | :13:55. | :13:58.
worked in partnership and gone the extra mile. The Key stage two | :13:59. | :14:02.
attendants results and A`level results are indicative of that. | :14:03. | :14:06.
There are some good GCSE results and some positive process growing | :14:07. | :14:08.
teaching staff and the communities of this island as a result of the | :14:09. | :14:14.
partnership. The target is to match the national average by 2016. | :14:15. | :14:19.
Beach`goers in Littlehampton have been warned to | :14:20. | :14:20.
avoid going for a swim for 24 hours because Southern Water has been | :14:21. | :14:23.
Waste is being diverted from the Sea Road pumping station as engineers | :14:24. | :14:28.
It will be released 100 metres off the coast in an effort to protect | :14:29. | :14:33.
We've heard of plans for teaching Britishness in schools. | :14:34. | :14:38.
But how about making video games that better | :14:39. | :14:40.
This month the government introduced new tax breaks | :14:41. | :14:45.
But it will only be paid to companies who meet a cultural test | :14:46. | :14:51.
Our Political Editor Peter Henley asks if that makes sense | :14:52. | :14:56.
Jousting, Mortal Kombat between knights of old. It is the ultimate | :14:57. | :15:14.
sport from Britain's heritage. These pictures from a festival of jousting | :15:15. | :15:20.
at Arran dulling Sussex last year. It is the inspiration for this video | :15:21. | :15:27.
game. It is created by a company in Oxford who is Chief Executive takes | :15:28. | :15:32.
part himself. Sometimes in the summer it can get absolutely | :15:33. | :15:36.
steaming. He was one of those leading the charge for tax | :15:37. | :15:39.
reductions to help British Games companies, Pete. People are setting | :15:40. | :15:45.
up new studios but not in the UK. The idea of tax breaks is to tweak | :15:46. | :15:49.
the percentages in favour of people making the decision to work in the | :15:50. | :15:54.
UK. I am hoping that what happens is that slows the brain drain down or | :15:55. | :16:01.
even reverses it. He was taking part in a medieval fair at Leeds Castle | :16:02. | :16:05.
this week. It is more tricky than it looks but easier than what is going | :16:06. | :16:10.
on out there. The battle for tax breaks for British Games companies | :16:11. | :16:14.
is all about a joust with the European Union. They felt that | :16:15. | :16:18.
giving British companies 20% of their production costs back was just | :16:19. | :16:22.
a little unfair so they introduced what they called British cultural | :16:23. | :16:28.
tests. Is this just a dodge to justify an EU subsidy? The minister | :16:29. | :16:43.
who signed the deal says it is not. In my view Britishness sells around | :16:44. | :16:46.
the world and you only have to see the success of the Harry Potter | :16:47. | :16:48.
franchise made by an American film studio but with British actors made | :16:49. | :16:51.
in Britain with a British grit and the British writer. Foreign visitors | :16:52. | :16:53.
are the medieval fair could see the appeal of a British game. | :16:54. | :16:54.
the British writer. Foreign visitors are the Would you buy a British | :16:55. | :16:57.
game? Yes, to be honest for the language. Maybe some of the history | :16:58. | :17:02.
as well? Yes. Expect more Games with the British flavour such as Lara | :17:03. | :17:09.
Croft and her butler for the global market. | :17:10. | :17:15.
I quite like all of that jousting! It is quite good fun. Tony is here | :17:16. | :17:19.
with the sport. We start with transfers. | :17:20. | :17:22.
When does the window close? It is all very exciting at this time of | :17:23. | :17:25.
year because the August transfer window shuts at Monday at 11pm. | :17:26. | :17:35.
Expect some activity from our clubs. It is all a bit last`minute, | :17:36. | :17:37.
especially from Reading. Reading will sell goalkeeper | :17:38. | :17:46.
Alex MCCarthy before the transfer It had been expected that | :17:47. | :17:48.
the 24`year`old would sign for Queens Park Rangers this afternoon | :17:49. | :17:52.
in a three million pound deal. That hasn't yet been confirmed | :17:53. | :17:55.
though, despite the player having been speculation of late interest | :17:56. | :17:57.
from Liverpool for the Royals In the Premier League Ronald Koeman | :17:58. | :18:00.
looks for his first win as Saints boss as his side travel to West Ham | :18:01. | :18:04.
In the Championship Bournemouth are on the road, Brighton back at the | :18:05. | :18:07.
Amex Both Swindon and MK Dons have home fixtures in league one | :18:08. | :18:10.
while Portsmouth, unbeaten in League Two, host Newport | :18:11. | :18:12.
and winless Oxford really need to get something from their game | :18:13. | :18:17.
against Dagenham and Redbridge. Commentary on local radio | :18:18. | :18:20.
and highlights on both Match of the Day and the football league show | :18:21. | :18:23.
tomorrow night here on BBC One. The FA Cup is back | :18:24. | :18:29.
on the BBC this season and here at South Today we are shining | :18:30. | :18:32.
a light on the competition right We started at Romsey two weeks ago | :18:33. | :18:35.
in the extra preliminary round. So, continuing the thread I've been | :18:36. | :18:40.
to the home of the Creeksiders to A good ball. Perfect. That is better | :18:41. | :19:08.
place. This is the home of Fareham town. They have beaten Romsey 3`1 in | :19:09. | :19:14.
the extra preliminary round, setting up again this weekend. They hope to | :19:15. | :19:18.
take another step towards the first round of this competition which is a | :19:19. | :19:22.
place they have been to four times. The last time was 1988. They pulled | :19:23. | :19:29.
off a shock by drawing two ` two at Torquay United and the League Cup | :19:30. | :19:33.
came back for a replay. It was a memorable night but the Hampshire | :19:34. | :19:38.
club finally bowed out, losing 3`2. The manager now and for the last six | :19:39. | :19:42.
years has been Fareham boy Matt Parr. I was here that they `` day. | :19:43. | :19:48.
It was such a massive game for the club and to get that far was | :19:49. | :19:52.
excellent. Watching as a youngster was brilliant and the days of being | :19:53. | :19:55.
in the Southern Premier League, we are a long way from that at the | :19:56. | :19:59.
moment and it would be good to get to that stage again. Saturday is | :20:00. | :20:05.
important for us. This weekend they placed `` face a team from Bristol. | :20:06. | :20:09.
Victory and there is still another four rounds to go before the first | :20:10. | :20:21.
round proper. It is nice to give summing back to the supporters who | :20:22. | :20:24.
are committed. We have a number of fans who come to away Games and | :20:25. | :20:27.
travel around so it is nice to have run so they can enjoy it basically. | :20:28. | :20:31.
At the end of the day you're playing in the same competition as people | :20:32. | :20:35.
like Manchester United so it is a dream for us all. Good luck to | :20:36. | :20:42.
Fareham and we will tell you the result on Monday. | :20:43. | :20:43.
Britian's rowers, who are based at Caversham, are set to compete | :20:44. | :20:46.
in a series of finals this weekend in the world rowing championships. | :20:47. | :20:49.
Southampton's James Foad along with partner Matt Langridge will | :20:50. | :20:51.
They qualified second in their semi final. | :20:52. | :20:54.
Also going for gold are the so`far unbeatable | :20:55. | :20:56.
pair of Helen Glover and Heather Stanning in the women's pair. | :20:57. | :21:00.
What's billed as the world's toughest offshore powerboat race | :21:01. | :21:02.
takes place this weekend The Cowes Torquay Cowes race starts early on | :21:03. | :21:05.
Sunday morning with around 20 boats due to be on the start line for the | :21:06. | :21:08.
200 mile round trip down to the Devon coast and back again. | :21:09. | :21:11.
Leading boats can hit on the water speeds of 85 miles per hour. | :21:12. | :21:18.
It's a spectacular sight along the coastline | :21:19. | :21:20.
and there's a lot of places to get a vantage point, starting with | :21:21. | :21:26.
Egypt Point the times listed are for the first and second legs. | :21:27. | :21:29.
Other viewing points include Hurst Castle, Fort Victoria, Anvil Point, | :21:30. | :21:31.
Do check the times as they can be affected by the weather. | :21:32. | :21:47.
Good luck to everyone taking part in that. | :21:48. | :21:52.
We will have the weather before we find out about Bournemouth Air | :21:53. | :21:57.
Festival. Is it my imagination or is it getting colder? | :21:58. | :22:00.
Yes, it is slightly cooler. Temperatures are below the seasonal | :22:01. | :22:03.
average and for 20 years it has been the coldest August. And the 18th | :22:04. | :22:09.
wettest in the UK. We have some lovely weather pictures. | :22:10. | :22:12.
Stormy skies over Lymington this morning. | :22:13. | :22:13.
Ashley Cooper took this picture from Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight. | :22:14. | :22:16.
Phil Little took this picture of the grey skies over Blackbushe Airport | :22:17. | :22:19.
near Yateley in Hampshire And Neil Lawrence took this photo of a | :22:20. | :22:22.
We did have a few showers today and they were on the heavy side in place | :22:23. | :22:34.
is particularly in Hampshire. Tonight the showers will continue | :22:35. | :22:37.
with outbreaks of rain at times and it is a fairly mild night. The rain | :22:38. | :22:41.
moves from west to east and a lot of cloud around a night and maybe | :22:42. | :22:44.
they'll top fog. The breeze should keep it at bay. These temperatures | :22:45. | :22:54.
are for towns and cities and in the countryside it will be slightly | :22:55. | :22:57.
lower than that. Ben first thing for the Isle of Wight, West Sussex and | :22:58. | :23:01.
Hampshire. And improving picture tomorrow with a lot of dry weather | :23:02. | :23:06.
and the odd stray shower in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. | :23:07. | :23:08.
Slightly more clout with temperatures tomorrow up to 18 or 19 | :23:09. | :23:14.
degrees. That is a notch below the seasonal average at this time of | :23:15. | :23:17.
year. The wind will not be as strong as it was today. Clear skies | :23:18. | :23:22.
tonight, a quiet night. A few showers initially but most places | :23:23. | :23:27.
have dry weather to start the day on Sunday. There will be a change | :23:28. | :23:33.
because high pressure is building in from the Atlantic and turning things | :23:34. | :23:37.
fairly settled for the second part of the weekend. A lot of sunshine | :23:38. | :23:40.
initially on Sunday and then the cloud builds up. The sunshine could | :23:41. | :23:45.
turn hazy in places. A weather front moves in on Monday despite the high | :23:46. | :23:49.
pressure and that means we could have rain at times on Monday and | :23:50. | :23:54.
also Tuesday morning. A lot of events taking place this weekend and | :23:55. | :23:55.
the weather looks fairly good. Fairly good for events taking place | :23:56. | :24:17.
this weekend, especially Sunday. On Monday the weather front bushes in | :24:18. | :24:22.
from the Atlantic so rain at times and temperatures will be suppressed | :24:23. | :24:25.
where we have the rain and then Tuesday starts on a damp the good | :24:26. | :24:29.
news is that high pressure builds in from the Atlantic so Wednesday, | :24:30. | :24:33.
Thursday and Friday next week will be warm. Temperatures could be above | :24:34. | :24:38.
the seasonal average. Today we had a high of 19 degrees and next | :24:39. | :24:43.
Wednesday we could have a high of 25 degrees. | :24:44. | :24:46.
That is so much better! Thank you very much. | :24:47. | :24:48.
It's one of the aviation events of the south's year, | :24:49. | :24:51.
And this year we were looking forward to particularly | :24:52. | :24:54.
Because the last two airworthy Lancaster bombers were set to appear | :24:55. | :24:57.
The British one being joined by a Canadian plane. | :24:58. | :25:00.
The Canadian aircraft today developed an engine problem | :25:01. | :25:05.
The aircraft is now undergoing maintenance and will not make | :25:06. | :25:08.
That is a great pity but there is plenty of other stuff going on. | :25:09. | :25:21.
Sarah Farmer has been following the drama of the day. | :25:22. | :25:27.
Wings clipped and engine silenced. This is one of just two Lancaster 's | :25:28. | :25:32.
that are still flying in the world. Both were meant to grace the skies | :25:33. | :25:35.
today but neither did. Both were meant to grace the skies | :25:36. | :25:39.
today but neither did. It suffered engine failure up in Teeside and | :25:40. | :25:42.
they had to shut the engine down which means they have got to do some | :25:43. | :25:45.
maintenance to get her flying again. The good news is she was put | :25:46. | :25:49.
down on the ground safely and the guys are looking after her and | :25:50. | :25:53.
hopefully it will not be long before we fly together again. The pair flew | :25:54. | :25:57.
together last weekend but until she has been given the all clear they | :25:58. | :26:02.
will not be performing together. The Canadian Lancaster was faced with | :26:03. | :26:14.
engine difficulties but for the rest of the Battle of Britain Memorial | :26:15. | :26:17.
flight team it was the weather that hampered them. They have got | :26:18. | :26:19.
crosswind limits of 15 knots and today's conditions meant that they | :26:20. | :26:21.
remained grounded. We are as disappointed, if not more so, than | :26:22. | :26:24.
everyone else and that is why we have come down here. We like to show | :26:25. | :26:28.
the public these aeroplanes and we are incredibly disappointed not to | :26:29. | :26:31.
be able to do that. Of course with the Canadian Lancaster not being | :26:32. | :26:35.
able to come down either it just means a double disappointment for | :26:36. | :26:39.
us. Despite a gap in the schedule the air Festival programme moved on. | :26:40. | :26:47.
The crowds could yet get a glimpse of the British Lancaster. The | :26:48. | :26:53.
weather is looking a lot better for tomorrow so hopefully the wind will | :26:54. | :26:56.
drop off. Sadly the two Lancaster 's are unlikely to fly together this | :26:57. | :27:00.
weekend but certainly the Battle of Britain Memorial flight, we are | :27:01. | :27:04.
planning to get airborne and instead the crowds at Bournemouth tomorrow | :27:05. | :27:09.
and on Sunday. The Battle of Britain Memorial flight crews hope to climb | :27:10. | :27:12.
into the crowds this weekend `` clouds this weekend as a tribute, | :27:13. | :27:17.
following in the flight path of the World War II heroes that went before | :27:18. | :27:22.
them. Lots going on at the Bournemouth Air | :27:23. | :27:26.
Festival all weekend. It is also the sure as show as well so just looked | :27:27. | :27:29.
at the skies this weekend something good will be happening somewhere. | :27:30. | :27:34.
The weather will be good for them. Yes, much better than today with | :27:35. | :27:39.
lighter wind and some sunshine. Whatever you are doing have a | :27:40. | :27:42.
fantastic time. We will all be back on Monday as usual. Thank you for. | :27:43. | :27:44.
Good night. | :27:45. | :27:50. |
