Good evening, I'm Laura Trant, with the news in the South.

:00:12.:00:14.

Hundreds of people across the region are celebrating their inclusion

:00:15.:00:16.

They include some of our sailing and hockey medal winners

:00:17.:00:21.

from the Rio Olympics, a mum who has fostered 25

:00:22.:00:24.

children, and a former BBC South Today presenter.

:00:25.:00:26.

There's an MBE in today's honours list for Judy Dayton,

:00:27.:00:34.

I don't expect any rewards for doing the job I do.

:00:35.:00:40.

Judy has provided long-term, placements for 25 children,

:00:41.:00:45.

including babies with serious medical problems.

:00:46.:00:49.

Most of our babies are damaged in one way or the other.

:00:50.:00:52.

Judy has adopted three of the children she has cared for,

:00:53.:00:58.

including Louise, the first youngster she fostered back in 1982.

:00:59.:01:03.

I don't know where I would have been or where I would have ended up had

:01:04.:01:07.

I not stayed with my mum, so it's definitely been...

:01:08.:01:10.

Also celebrating today is Bruce Parker, who receives

:01:11.:01:15.

the MBE for his charity and community work.

:01:16.:01:20.

Before his retirement, he presented BBC South Today for 35 years.

:01:21.:01:24.

He's currently chairman of the Friends of Winchester Cathedral.

:01:25.:01:28.

I'm thrilled to bits, actually, and I am also quite pleased that

:01:29.:01:33.

I loved doing the day job and that was reward enough,

:01:34.:01:37.

but having it for charity, that's really superb.

:01:38.:01:39.

In the sporting world, Olympic sailors Saskia Clarke

:01:40.:01:43.

They won gold in the women's 470 dinghy event in Rio.

:01:44.:01:50.

You know, to be an MBE is an insane thing and it's hugely humbling.

:01:51.:02:06.

Also receiving MBE is a Weymouth sailor and Olympic gold medallist

:02:07.:02:08.

Giles Scott and Southampton sailor Ian Walker, who won

:02:09.:02:11.

And there are honours for all the members of the women's

:02:12.:02:14.

hockey team, who won gold in Rio, amongst them three

:02:15.:02:17.

A fire has destroyed part of the Coate Agricultural

:02:18.:02:21.

It's been closed for decades, but artefacts including

:02:22.:02:25.

Firefighters are unable to get on site to assess the damage

:02:26.:02:30.

But historians are hoping most items will be saved.

:02:31.:02:39.

And tonight a fire started in the restaurant inside the M

:02:40.:02:42.

The shop was closed at the time but the wider shopping

:02:43.:02:46.

New Year, same problems, as another three-day strike

:02:47.:02:49.

by Southern conductors is causing widespread disruption

:02:50.:02:51.

Members of the RMT union walked out at midnight.

:02:52.:02:56.

Southern's parent firm, Govia Thameslink, is in dispute

:02:57.:02:58.

with the RMT and Aslef unions over changes to the role

:02:59.:03:01.

The RMT is staging the latest 72-hour walkout

:03:02.:03:07.

Another six-day strike is set for the 9th of January.

:03:08.:03:16.

Bournemouth have ended the year on a high with a 3-0 win

:03:17.:03:19.

Eight years to the day after Eddie Howe was named caretaker

:03:20.:03:23.

manager, Benik Afobe, Ryan Fraser and Joshua King scored,

:03:24.:03:25.

moving the Cherries to tenth in the Premier League,

:03:26.:03:27.

a place behind Southampton, who were beaten 2-1

:03:28.:03:30.

Their day was made worse when Virgil Van Dijk was sent off

:03:31.:03:35.

And in League One, Oxford United's first meeting with Walsall for 16

:03:36.:03:42.

years ended in anticlimax, with a goalless draw

:03:43.:03:44.

More than 1,000 people have welcomed in the New Year early,

:03:45.:03:50.

at a family-friendly rave in Worthing.

:03:51.:03:57.

Midnight struck at six o'clock this evening in the town's Assembly Hall.

:03:58.:04:00.

The party was organised by a dad who says it's hard

:04:01.:04:02.

With kids in tow, all ages could party, including older generations.

:04:03.:04:08.

97-year-old Vera Chalmers was the oldest guest,

:04:09.:04:10.

Let's find out how the weather is looking for the New Year,

:04:11.:04:17.

Good evening. We had a rather grey day and that sets us up for quite a

:04:18.:04:29.

cloudy night. We could see the cloud giving a bit of light rain and

:04:30.:04:32.

drizzle but there will be a band of more persistent rain pushing in from

:04:33.:04:36.

the north-west towards dawn. With all of the cloud, mist and fog,

:04:37.:04:41.

temperatures well above freezing, up at around seven or 8 degrees. The

:04:42.:04:46.

rain could be heavy at times tomorrow, turning wintry over higher

:04:47.:04:50.

ground. Temperatures not too bad. Highs of eight or nine. Then we get

:04:51.:04:56.

some properly cold air, so Monday drier and brighter but noticeably

:04:57.:04:57.

colder. We are back tomorrow. In the

:04:58.:05:05.

meantime, a very happy New Year. Goodbye.

:05:06.:05:07.

wonderful New Year. You can keep up with all the best. Happy New Year.

:05:08.:05:16.

Good evening. As we head through the final few hours of 2016 the weather

:05:17.:05:23.

is on the change. We've got called her swooping in and there is a

:05:24.:05:30.

weather front bringing a soggy New Year's Eve. It is raining across

:05:31.:05:34.

southern Scotland and Northern Ireland and that will push south as

:05:35.:05:37.

we head towards parts of northern England. Showers moving in from the

:05:38.:05:41.

North Southwark could be icy stretches across there. Adding

:05:42.:05:50.

further south, mostly dry with a drizzly spell, that rain

:05:51.:05:51.
