Good evening, I'm Laura Trant, with the news in the South.

Hundreds of people across the region are celebrating their inclusion

They include some of our sailing and hockey medal winners

from the Rio Olympics, a mum who has fostered 25

children, and a former BBC South Today presenter.

There's an MBE in today's honours list for Judy Dayton,

I don't expect any rewards for doing the job I do.

Judy has provided long-term, placements for 25 children,

including babies with serious medical problems.

Most of our babies are damaged in one way or the other.

Judy has adopted three of the children she has cared for,

including Louise, the first youngster she fostered back in 1982.

I don't know where I would have been or where I would have ended up had

I not stayed with my mum, so it's definitely been...

Also celebrating today is Bruce Parker, who receives

the MBE for his charity and community work.

Before his retirement, he presented BBC South Today for 35 years.

He's currently chairman of the Friends of Winchester Cathedral.

I'm thrilled to bits, actually, and I am also quite pleased that

I loved doing the day job and that was reward enough,

but having it for charity, that's really superb.

In the sporting world, Olympic sailors Saskia Clarke

They won gold in the women's 470 dinghy event in Rio.

You know, to be an MBE is an insane thing and it's hugely humbling.

Also receiving MBE is a Weymouth sailor and Olympic gold medallist

Giles Scott and Southampton sailor Ian Walker, who won

And there are honours for all the members of the women's

hockey team, who won gold in Rio, amongst them three

A fire has destroyed part of the Coate Agricultural

It's been closed for decades, but artefacts including

More than 1,000 people have welcomed in the New Year early,

at a family-friendly rave in Worthing.

Midnight struck at six o'clock this evening in the town's Assembly Hall.

Good evening. We had a rather grey day and that sets us up for quite a

cloudy night. We could see the cloud giving a bit of light rain and

drizzle but there will be a band of more persistent rain pushing in from

the north-west towards dawn. With all of the cloud, mist and fog,

temperatures well above freezing, up at around seven or 8 degrees. The

rain could be heavy at times tomorrow, turning wintry over higher

ground. Temperatures not too bad. Highs of eight or nine. Then we get

some properly cold air, so Monday drier and brighter but noticeably

colder. We are back tomorrow. In the

Good evening. As we head through the final few hours of 2016 the weather

is on the change. We've got called her swooping in and there is a

weather front bringing a soggy New Year's Eve. It is raining across

southern Scotland and Northern Ireland and that will push south as

we head towards parts of northern England. Showers moving in from the

North Southwark could be icy stretches across there. Adding

further south, mostly dry with a drizzly spell, that rain
