A fire in a block of high rise flats in Southampton

More than 50 firefighters battled the blaze

The smoke could be seen for miles as the blaze took hold

at Redbridge Towers in Southampton in the early evening.

The fire broke out in a flat on the 12th floor

When I came out there was flames coming out of the window.

Paper flying out, glass smashed everywhere, when the windows went,

The occupant of the flat fled to her neighbour to raise the alarm.

The fire was contained within the severely damaged flat.

Other than smoke inhalation, there were no injuries

It's just days since the seventh anniversary of the blaze

at Shirley Towers in Southampton which claimed the lives

of firefighters Alan Bannon and Jim Shears.

Tonight, residents were being allowed to return to their homes.

Once fire crews have finished dampening down this

evening, the scene will be guarded by police

Police figures show nearly A THOUSAND cyclists were killed

or seriosuly injured on the roads of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight,

In response, a new cycling safety campaign has been launched.

This weekend thousands of cyclists took to the roads of the New Forest

as they would a car, but in just two hours Hampshire Police

found 19 motorists failed to do that.

The event here has the challenge of keeping the public and a total of

4,000 cyclists safe as they take to the forest's roads over

In previous years there's been tension with locals.

Organisers say they've been working hard to minimise disruption

and urging riders to follow the forest cycling code,

Obviously they're cycling in the national park,

there will be animals on the road and also be respectful

to other road users. Abide by the Highway Code.

The National Park Authority says mutual tolerance

between road users is needed, a sentiment echoed by

Hampshire Police as they seek to make cycling a safer experience

Onto sport, and The Football League have approved a proposed change

in ownership at Reading football club subject to certain conditions.

Reading released a statement tonight revealing the league have given

conditional approval to a takeover by Chinese brother and sister
