Keep up-to-date online. That's

:00:00.:00:15.

In The sheltered housing residents facing a near threefold increase in

:00:16.:00:19.

their council tax bills after a re`evaluation.

:00:20.:00:22.

Good evening. The bills are going up by ?500 a

:00:23.:00:26.

year for each resident. There's concern it's causing them

:00:27.:00:34.

unnecessary stress. All that sort of anxiety day job live, after all that

:00:35.:00:37.

they have given to their community and to the country, is completely

:00:38.:00:39.

wrong. Also tonight: More cuts for Exeter

:00:40.:00:42.

based airline Flybe. It's announced three routes are being axed from

:00:43.:00:45.

next spring. And what will the government's

:00:46.:00:47.

renewable energy reforms mean for the South West?

:00:48.:00:54.

It's been described as a Scrooge`like action in the run up to

:00:55.:00:57.

Christmas. A group of residents in sheltered accommodation in Cornwall

:00:58.:01:00.

are facing a near threefold increase in their council tax bills. The

:01:01.:01:05.

residents, many of whom are in their nineties are said to be shocked and

:01:06.:01:08.

worried by the rise which is the result of a re`evaluation of the tax

:01:09.:01:11.

banding. Tonight there are calls for the Government to intervene. From

:01:12.:01:15.

the home in Saltash John Danks reports.

:01:16.:01:24.

The residents of Cresta House in Saltash are used to sharing. They

:01:25.:01:28.

share the dining room, a conservatory, and even the

:01:29.:01:33.

property's council tax bill. Now the authority that decides council tax

:01:34.:01:37.

bands wants to change that and send each resident council tax bill of

:01:38.:01:42.

their own and that will cost them. It means a basic change because

:01:43.:01:46.

everybody will be at the lower rate rather than the house being in a

:01:47.:01:51.

particular band. It will mean about ?500 extra each year for each

:01:52.:01:58.

resident. It is un`Christmas light. Someone is behaving like Scrooge and

:01:59.:02:02.

we need a better Christmas rapport and caring for those in our own

:02:03.:02:06.

community. 96`year`old Dorothy has lived here for 14 years. She says it

:02:07.:02:13.

is stress she could do without. I am always worried, and I will be

:02:14.:02:19.

worried about it, yes. The valuation office agency says that each of the

:02:20.:02:23.

bedrooms is an independent living unit and, as such, qualifies for

:02:24.:02:28.

band a council tax. The charity that runs the home is calling on the

:02:29.:02:32.

government to change the law and protect other elderly residents in

:02:33.:02:37.

sheltered accommodation from being reassessed in this way. The

:02:38.:02:39.

difficulty is that with the pressure on their own investments and the

:02:40.:02:43.

state confining what they are able to provide in the way of help, where

:02:44.:02:57.

will it come from? Nobody from the valuation office agency was

:02:58.:02:59.

available for interview but a spokesperson told us that

:03:00.:03:00.

discussions with representatives of Abbeyfield are ongoing.

:03:01.:03:03.

Flybe has announced more cuts to its Exeter`based operation today. This

:03:04.:03:05.

time it's not jobs, but flights which are going. Some are cuts to

:03:06.:03:09.

holiday routes, but one is a year`round service to the north of

:03:10.:03:12.

England. Our business correspondent Neil Gallacher has the details and

:03:13.:03:17.

joins me now. What exactly is going? They are

:03:18.:03:21.

losing the routes to Barcelona and Nice which are some are only roots.

:03:22.:03:26.

They are also losing the link into Newcastle that is year`round. It

:03:27.:03:30.

will stop at the end of March and anybody who is directly affected

:03:31.:03:34.

will be offered an alternative flight or a refund. What impact will

:03:35.:03:39.

this have on the local economy? Full IB will still be offering a total

:03:40.:03:46.

route map of about 20 destinations out of Exeter so it is a marginal

:03:47.:03:50.

change although I think the loss of Newcastle could be irritating to the

:03:51.:03:54.

business community. The real value to the local economy has never been

:03:55.:03:59.

that they fly local people to holiday destinations. We might like

:04:00.:04:03.

that but it is not why it matters. The point is that they offer a large

:04:04.:04:07.

number of skilled engineering jobs in the Exeter area and it is where

:04:08.:04:11.

they have their corporate HQ and both of those functions are still

:04:12.:04:25.

the case. What is worrying is that this has come on top of significant

:04:26.:04:27.

job losses announced recently. There is no doubt that the company has

:04:28.:04:30.

been in a really bad way. The new executive has come in and shaken the

:04:31.:04:33.

airline inside out. Last month they announced another 500 job cuts, 100

:04:34.:04:35.

or so in the Exeter area but they also returned to profit. The share

:04:36.:04:39.

price was down to 40p in the spring which was shocking but it is now up

:04:40.:04:43.

at 99p so they have changed `` turned a corner. Investors are not

:04:44.:04:52.

worried about this news. Supporters of renewable energy in

:04:53.:04:55.

the South West say the Government's decision to change the way it

:04:56.:04:58.

supports the market, could mean fewer new wind farms around our

:04:59.:05:01.

countryside in the coming years. Solar farms will also have fewer

:05:02.:05:04.

financial incentives in the future, but the Government says there'll be

:05:05.:05:07.

much more money for big offshore windfarms. Our Environment

:05:08.:05:09.

Correspondent Adrian Campbell reports.

:05:10.:05:14.

Onshore wind farms have become commonplace in parts of the South

:05:15.:05:19.

West. Some argue they are a blot on the landscape but in the last 20

:05:20.:05:23.

years they have added to renewable energy production. The region

:05:24.:05:27.

generates enough renewable electricity to power 390,000 homes,

:05:28.:05:32.

17% of all homes in the south`west or almost every home in Devon. There

:05:33.:05:38.

are already 679 on shore wind projects in the south`west and more

:05:39.:05:43.

than 65,000 solar installations producing electricity but so far no

:05:44.:05:48.

offshore wind projects at all. You are seeing a whole mix of wind and

:05:49.:05:54.

biomass and increasingly solar. We asked an expert if this announcement

:05:55.:05:58.

would make a big difference here. What I do think is problematic for

:05:59.:06:02.

the industry is the level of change and disruption and the way the

:06:03.:06:06.

government is going about the process and it does not give

:06:07.:06:11.

industry and investment the clarity they need. Just last week the

:06:12.:06:16.

Atlantic array, a big wind farm proposed for Devon, was cancelled.

:06:17.:06:21.

These new incentives may encourage further development near the coast.

:06:22.:06:25.

Some say it is timely because we are using up too much countryside. Here

:06:26.:06:31.

in the ex`valley there has been very little wind farm development to date

:06:32.:06:36.

but there is a proposal for a turbine quite soon. Many local

:06:37.:06:40.

residents have opposed it and they are hoping that this announcement

:06:41.:06:43.

from the government will help their cause. This man can trace his family

:06:44.:06:47.

connection to the valley over centuries. He is worried about big,

:06:48.:06:52.

modern turbines coming here. I would have preferred a line of windmills

:06:53.:07:00.

over the top unfortunately solar panels is equally dramatic and

:07:01.:07:05.

should not be there. Solar panels constructively used on roofs on

:07:06.:07:08.

brown field sites and I don't think they should be turned into an

:07:09.:07:13.

agricultural product. Some question the government 's new priorities,

:07:14.:07:16.

favouring offshore energy but it claims this will double production

:07:17.:07:19.

by 2020. Our Political Editor Martyn Oates

:07:20.:07:23.

joins us now from Westminster at the end of the day of big political

:07:24.:07:27.

announcements. At the end of a day of big political announcements, the

:07:28.:07:31.

news of more money for offshore wind coming just days after plans for the

:07:32.:07:37.

biggest offshore wind farm was abandoned. Yes, it does seem rather

:07:38.:07:43.

ironic. If there was any chance that this could have saved the Atlantic

:07:44.:07:46.

array, you would have thought they would tip the company off before it

:07:47.:07:50.

scrapped the plans. The government said today it makes sense to move

:07:51.:07:54.

money away from onshore wind or large`scale solar because they are

:07:55.:07:57.

standing on their own feet and offshore wind needs a bit more

:07:58.:08:01.

help. The renewable energy Association agreed with that but it

:08:02.:08:04.

said also that the government is watering down its ambitions in terms

:08:05.:08:10.

biomass and energy from waste which means we will end up with more coal

:08:11.:08:13.

and oil fields power stations are more on fossil fuels. Labour says

:08:14.:08:17.

that the fact that the government is changing at mines creates damaging

:08:18.:08:24.

uncertainty. News on a big and controversial infrastructure project

:08:25.:08:30.

for the region. Yes, the government has up `` underlined its commitment

:08:31.:08:38.

to upgrading the A303. I can reassure my honourable friend that

:08:39.:08:42.

the pipeline of money is already open for that project. I announced

:08:43.:08:47.

it in June. The work is being done to work out what improvements are

:08:48.:08:56.

available for the A303 and the A30 and be very important link to the

:08:57.:08:59.

south`west of England. By this time next year we will set out the

:09:00.:09:04.

details to the house. A Wiltshire MP pointed out later that an upgrade

:09:05.:09:09.

will mean taking account of Stonehenge and also the Blackdown

:09:10.:09:13.

Hills area of outstanding natural beauty in Devon and Somerset. It

:09:14.:09:17.

will not be plain sailing even if the government stumps up the cash.

:09:18.:09:21.

Talking of the government stumping up the cash, tomorrow is the Autumn

:09:22.:09:24.

Statement, so another day of big political announcements. A woman is

:09:25.:09:36.

being treated for life`saving injuries following a crash on the M5

:09:37.:09:39.

this morning. The 32`year`old driver was trapped when her Renault Clio

:09:40.:09:42.

overturned after colliding with a van near Cullompton. The northbound

:09:43.:09:45.

carriageway was closed for several hours while she was airlifted to

:09:46.:09:49.

hospital. Six fire crews have been tackling a

:09:50.:09:53.

blaze which broke out in a block of flats in Teignmouth. The fire in

:09:54.:09:59.

Orchard Gardens broke out on the third floor of the building at

:10:00.:10:10.

lunchtime. Nobody was trapped in the incident and engineers are assessing

:10:11.:10:12.

the structural damage. A house in Cornwall which stood

:10:13.:10:16.

empty for a year is the first in the country to be brought back into use

:10:17.:10:20.

by a scheme to tackle the housing shortage. A charity is leasing the

:10:21.:10:23.

cottage from its owner and has paid for renovations. It's now being

:10:24.:10:27.

rented to a family who needed a new home. Eleanor Parkinson has been

:10:28.:10:30.

finding out more about the scheme. This house stood empty for a year in

:10:31.:10:33.

bad repair. Cornwall Council 's persuaded the owner to hand it over

:10:34.:10:35.

to them through the empty homes scheme for refurbishment. A charity

:10:36.:10:37.

brought in the buildings `` builders and the building has a newly solve

:10:38.:10:42.

life. It will be rented out to a local family who found themselves

:10:43.:10:46.

homeless just before Christmas. It was a building site with lots of

:10:47.:10:49.

dampness and wetness and you can see it is a beautiful home now. There is

:10:50.:10:54.

a new family moving in next week. They are a local family with a

:10:55.:10:58.

particular need and this enables us to provide them with a home for

:10:59.:11:04.

Christmas. Cornwall Council says the empty homes scheme isn't complicated

:11:05.:11:09.

and everyone benefits. We are bringing empty homes back into use.

:11:10.:11:14.

Delighted to work with the charity and has been a huge success and we

:11:15.:11:17.

are looking forward to rolling it out more in the future. Charity

:11:18.:11:22.

recently became `` found a home for this woman who became homeless after

:11:23.:11:27.

she lost her job and her house. I got more and more into mortgage

:11:28.:11:30.

arrears and my home was repossessed and then I found myself sober

:11:31.:11:35.

surfing, sleeping on floors and sofas and even sleeping in my car.

:11:36.:11:41.

To have your own home now, you have just moved in, what is it like? It

:11:42.:11:46.

is unbelievable. I can hardly believe I have another home and a

:11:47.:11:50.

roof over my head after everything I have been through. Cornwall Council

:11:51.:11:55.

says there were many empty properties in the council that can

:11:56.:11:58.

be refurbished and three lead and they have issued an appeal to

:11:59.:12:01.

landlords for them to come forward if they have an empty house that can

:12:02.:12:04.

be used to re`home someone on the homeless register.

:12:05.:12:07.

A jury was today told that a pensioner died after falling into

:12:08.:12:10.

the River Exe because her walking stick broke and not because of any

:12:11.:12:14.

safety shortcomings of steps and handrails. Exeter City Council

:12:15.:12:16.

denies breaching health and safety laws where passengers get on and off

:12:17.:12:28.

Butts Ferry at Exeter Quay. 80`year`old Dorothy Stevens drowned

:12:29.:12:32.

when she fell into the river in July 2010. Hamish Marshall joins me now

:12:33.:12:39.

from Exeter Crown Court. We find out why Sharron Robbie has

:12:40.:12:43.

been nominated as this year's unsung sporting hero. The premise of the

:12:44.:12:48.

defence case was that Dorothy Stevens would not have fallen into

:12:49.:12:54.

the water if her walking stick had not snapped into. A consultant came

:12:55.:12:57.

to the courts today and spoke about how she was not very agile and a

:12:58.:13:03.

foldable stake was not as reliable as a wooden one. He said that if it

:13:04.:13:07.

had not broken in such a way he believed she would have been able to

:13:08.:13:11.

climb the steps. Who else has been giving evidence?

:13:12.:13:18.

The health and safety inspector who was called there in 2010 gave

:13:19.:13:22.

evidence. She was asked why she allowed Butts Ferry to continue to

:13:23.:13:26.

operate as normal through the rest of that summer if there was such a

:13:27.:13:31.

danger in these steps. She said the full circumstances surrounding what

:13:32.:13:35.

happened to Dorothy Stevens was not known at the time. And other

:13:36.:13:40.

witness, a retired health and say inspector, said that just because

:13:41.:13:44.

there have been changes to the steps and rails does not mean that work

:13:45.:13:49.

needed to be done before the accident happened.

:13:50.:13:54.

What happens now? Tomorrow morning we will have the closing speeches.

:13:55.:14:00.

The jury will retire to consider its verdict. Next on Spotlight: We hear

:14:01.:14:09.

from the man who received an apology after complaining to the Prime

:14:10.:14:14.

Minister. Also We find out why Sharron Robbie

:14:15.:14:17.

has been nominated as this year's unsung sporting hero.

:14:18.:14:21.

I have been kissed a few times under the mistletoe. I was kissed a few

:14:22.:14:25.

times when I was younger. I am still waiting!

:14:26.:14:31.

A man from Dorset who wrote to the Prime Minister to say that he'd only

:14:32.:14:34.

received his out of work benefits on time once in three months has today

:14:35.:14:38.

received an apology from the government. Adrian Robinson claims

:14:39.:14:40.

problems with his job`seeker's Allowance began when he returned to

:14:41.:14:43.

his home town of Lyme Regis, from where Simon Clemison sent this

:14:44.:14:51.

report. Think of Lyme Regis and you probably

:14:52.:14:55.

think of the cob and the coast but it is not just a famous tourist

:14:56.:15:00.

spot. I found a business park here where people live and work as well

:15:01.:15:05.

as come to be enjoyed. It is lovely to be back. Returning to his home

:15:06.:15:10.

town after his contract came to an end in Berkshire, Adrian wanted to

:15:11.:15:15.

join the local workforce. He is partially sighted and is helped by

:15:16.:15:19.

his wife. I went through the recession in the 1980s and you just

:15:20.:15:22.

had to wait until things get better. I know that as long as I keep doing

:15:23.:15:28.

everything I need to do... Are you? Yes, indeed. Adrienne knows about

:15:29.:15:32.

employment as much as unemployment, having been a human resources

:15:33.:15:54.

advisor. He was getting job`seeker's allowance before he moved back to

:15:55.:15:57.

Dorset but when he signed on in Weymouth the problems began. The

:15:58.:15:59.

system seemed unable to cope with the profit of the sale of their

:16:00.:16:02.

house when they moved even though it was below the amount that would have

:16:03.:16:04.

meant the benefits were docked. While he was entitled to the

:16:05.:16:07.

payment, every time it was delayed. We gave them all the information

:16:08.:16:10.

they needed but the system would not bend. There is no more that I can do

:16:11.:16:13.

and the benefit that we seek we were entitled to and we were entitled to

:16:14.:16:16.

it on time. Adrienne may have been making every effort to find work by

:16:17.:16:19.

new rules mean there are those that don't in the government's view. Many

:16:20.:16:22.

people have already been penalised in a shake`up of state benefits.

:16:23.:16:27.

Support services say that some are struggling with all the changes. We

:16:28.:16:31.

need to be sure that the system is there to help people and we do not

:16:32.:16:34.

get into a situation where admin errors make things worse and put a

:16:35.:16:38.

burden on people because many people do not have a safety net or anything

:16:39.:16:42.

to fall back on. This job`seeker managed to survive as other benefits

:16:43.:16:53.

were paid on time. The Department for Work and Pensions has apologised

:16:54.:16:56.

for the delay and said it has rectified the issue with any money

:16:57.:16:58.

owing being paid. Yeovil Town's renaisssance could be

:16:59.:17:02.

underway in football's Championship. Their one goal win over Blackpool at

:17:03.:17:06.

Huish Park last night was their second in a row and keeps them

:17:07.:17:09.

within touching distance of the safety line. One of their three new

:17:10.:17:13.

loan signings, John Lundstram from Everton, scored the vital goal in

:17:14.:17:16.

the first half. Blackpool had three of their players dramatically sent

:17:17.:17:20.

off in added time as Yeovil hung on for a precious three points.

:17:21.:17:23.

Plymouth College swimmer Ruta Meilutyte has taken her tally of

:17:24.:17:27.

gold medals for the year to 12. The 16`year`old Lithuanian, who's the

:17:28.:17:30.

Olympic and World champion, is representing England at the World

:17:31.:17:32.

Schools' Championship in Brazil and collected her latest gold in the 100

:17:33.:17:36.

metre freestyle. The England team, coached by Jon Rudd the director of

:17:37.:17:39.

swimming at the College, were the top team in Brasilia with all seven

:17:40.:17:43.

of Rudd's swimmers winning at least one medal each.

:17:44.:17:47.

Prince Harry has been offering support to a group of servicemen,

:17:48.:17:51.

including a man from Devon, who have set off on what's being called the

:17:52.:17:57.

world's toughest rowing race. Cayle Royce who lives in Dartmouth lost

:17:58.:18:00.

both his legs last year while serving in Afghanistan. He's part of

:18:01.:18:03.

the Row2Recovery team racing in the Atlantic Challenge, to raise money

:18:04.:18:07.

for Help For Heroes. Prince Harry, who's currently trekking in

:18:08.:18:09.

Antarctica, called the team to wish them luck on their 3,000 mile

:18:10.:18:11.

journey. Especially if you have a broken toe,

:18:12.:18:31.

I imagine that is true. Good luck we are thinking of you.

:18:32.:18:34.

Throughout this week we're meeting the people you've nominated as

:18:35.:18:39.

Unsung Sporting Heroes. Across the region there are scores of people

:18:40.:18:43.

who give up huge amounts of their own time to help others enjoy their

:18:44.:18:46.

chosen sport. Tonight's finalist is Sharron Robbie, who's the Chair of

:18:47.:18:49.

the Plymouth Netball League. Spotlight's John Ayres reports. We

:18:50.:18:58.

want to 20 chest passes. The profile of netball has risen significantly

:18:59.:19:01.

in Plymouth in recent years with 800 women playing in the city league.

:19:02.:19:06.

Heading it up is Sharron Robbie. She has been an ambassador for the

:19:07.:19:10.

sport, but most significantly she works hard to provide a permanent

:19:11.:19:15.

home for netball in the city. Over the last three or four years I have

:19:16.:19:19.

lobbied really hard to gain a central venue for our sport in the

:19:20.:19:24.

city. We were extremely lucky to get the support from Plymouth City

:19:25.:19:26.

Council and England netball and sport England to give us our home in

:19:27.:19:32.

the Plymouth life Centre. Sharon has been keen to encourage more women

:19:33.:19:36.

into sport generally. She heads up the league which is quite a

:19:37.:19:40.

challenge. You are talking about more than 80 teams in the Plymouth

their own teams and she manages it beautifully. She is passion and NHS

:19:54.:19:57.

and approachable and she wants to do things right for netball and netball

in Plymouth and sport itself. She is amazing. What is it that drives

:20:04.:20:09.

Sharon on? When you start to volunteer for an organisation,

:20:10.:20:13.

whether it is a sport or charitable organisation, I think that if you

:20:14.:20:16.

feel passionately about something you really want to share it with

:20:17.:20:20.

others and I am absolutely passionate about netball and what it

:20:21.:20:23.

can bring, especially to young women. Sharon has been on the

:20:24.:20:28.

committee for more than 20 years. Plymouth netball harbour is now one

:20:29.:20:32.

of the largest of its type in the country.

We'll find out about another Unsung Sporting Hero in Spotlight tomorrow

:20:36.:20:38.

and the overall winner will be announced in Friday's Spotlight.

:20:39.:20:46.

I can't wait to find out who it is. It will be a tough decision for the

:20:47.:20:51.

judges. We have heard sobs `` from some fantastic people again this

:20:52.:20:52.

year. Now, this festive season, will you

:20:53.:20:55.

be hanging the mistletoe with the hope of catching someone under it

:20:56.:21:01.

for a traditional Christmas kiss? I make no comment on that.

:21:02.:21:04.

I just happen to have some here... I do hope not! I am in terrible

:21:05.:21:10.

trouble now. Well, work has begun gathering in hundreds of bunches of

:21:11.:21:12.

mistletoe at The National Trust's Cotehele House in Cornwall. Johnny

:21:13.:21:16.

Rutherford has been along to find out more about the plant and how the

:21:17.2:53:26

tradition of kissing under it came about.

2:53:272:53:26

Are you sure? Sorry. Long before our ancestors were hanging mistletoe up

2:53:272:53:26

at Christmas time it was believed it had special powers. They were

2:53:272:53:26

careful not to let it touch the ground because it was said to really

2:53:272:53:26

move its strength. This week Gardner 's are also being careful in cutting

2:53:272:53:26

and harvesting their mistletoe, to make sure that both the Apple tree

2:53:272:53:26

and the plant to `` continue to survive together. The mistletoe

2:53:272:53:26

grows in Saint biosis with the tree, it is a semi`parasitic plant and

2:53:272:53:26

they grow together really well, although the mistletoe will tend, if

2:53:272:53:26

it is not checked, you will see that I am taking out large clumps because

2:53:272:53:26

it will start to take over the tree a little bit. It does need careful

2:53:272:53:26

management. Mistletoe is often found in traditionally managed orchards

2:53:272:53:26

although it is unusual to find it Cornwall. This is a fantastic food

2:53:272:53:26

source for birds in the orchard and it is quite popular at this time of

2:53:272:53:26

the year as well. It is still possible as part of the traditional

2:53:272:53:26

Christmas decor. In Europe it was not to bring good luck and here in

2:53:272:53:26

the UK we went one stage further and hope that luck would get us kiss! It

2:53:272:53:26

used to be said that young men had the privilege of kissing girls under

2:53:272:53:26

mistletoe, plucking off Bury for each case. The berries were gone the

2:53:272:53:26

privilege ceased. This couple have been married 60 years but have never

2:53:272:53:26

once kissed under the mistletoe. No, we haven't. No! We have never needed

2:53:272:53:26

it! First time then. I have been kissed a few times under the

2:53:272:53:26

mistletoe. I think I was kissed a few times when I was younger. And I

2:53:272:53:26

am still waiting! I would offer to help out but I am married!

2:53:272:53:26

Indeed, if Rebecca's husband is watching, I was joking of course!

2:53:272:53:26

Although there is some mistletoe on our desk which has been attempting a

2:53:272:53:26

full day but we haven't... Tempting us! Really.

2:53:272:53:26

It is time for the weather. He is quite a big fellow, her husband,

2:53:272:53:26

isn't he? He is taller than me! Let us look at

2:53:272:53:26

the weather then. the weather

2:53:272:53:26

Let us start with what is happening tomorrow. We have been gloomy for

2:53:272:53:26

the last few days. The sunshine came out today. Tomorrow is different,

2:53:272:53:26

there will be frost and a cold start in the morning. It will become quite

2:53:272:53:26

windy in the second half of the day and we will see showers towards the

2:53:272:53:26

end of the afternoon and evening. We are actually between weather systems

2:53:272:53:26

to night. This stripe of cloud which has kept us cloudy through the

2:53:272:53:26

morning is now moving away and moving into northern France and

2:53:272:53:26

clear sky will follow. Tonight there is a ridge of high pressure and we

2:53:272:53:26

are expecting some low temperatures. In the second half of the night,

2:53:272:53:26

just slightly more of a breeze to stir the air and by the middle of

2:53:272:53:26

the day it will become quite breezy with westerly or north`westerly

2:53:272:53:26

winds that could touch gale force in the Bristol Channel. Here is a look

2:53:272:53:26

at what could happen on Friday. There will be a chilly start with a

2:53:272:53:26

risk of morning frost and then there should be a decent enough day. The

2:53:272:53:26

high pressure means the cloud will be stubborn to shift so things will

2:53:272:53:26

settle down nicely. We did have some sunshine and it was quite a pleasant

2:53:272:53:26

end to today. This was earlier near Teignmouth where there were some

2:53:272:53:26

bright skies. It was a lovely end to the day and a nice sunshine ``

2:53:272:53:26

sunset. Look at that cloud! This means there will be frost is a

2:53:272:53:26

night, not everywhere but certainly for the areas that are well

2:53:272:53:26

sheltered from the northerly breeze. We will see overnight

2:53:272:53:26

temperatures at or just below freezing. A good deal of fine

2:53:272:53:26

weather and clear sky. Good news for the stargazers who have been

2:53:272:53:26

disappointed in the last few nights. The frost will develop in the small

2:53:272:53:26

hours of the morning and towards dawn we will see a bit more cloud

2:53:272:53:26

drifting in from the North West as the breeze steadily freshens.

2:53:272:53:26

Nonetheless we see temperatures close to freezing just about

2:53:272:53:26

anywhere. In parts of central and mid`Somerset temperatures could be

2:53:272:53:26

as low as zero or below. Expect the frost first thing tomorrow morning.

2:53:272:53:26

Tomorrow it self is a bright enough start with a lot of cloud around

2:53:272:53:26

throughout the day. It will be patchy. Some sunny spells briefly.

2:53:272:53:26

As the wind increases so does the cloud amount and through the

2:53:272:53:26

afternoon we will see a cloudy end to the day and a stiff

2:53:272:53:26

north`westerly breeze setting in. The breeze is strong enough in fact

2:53:272:53:26

to whip up the waves along the north coast and through the Bristol

2:53:272:53:26

Channel. Rough seas are possible here. The temperatures tomorrow, on

2:53:272:53:26

the face of it it does not look bad but because it is windy it will feel

2:53:272:53:26

colder because of the strength of the wind. For the owls `` for the

2:53:272:53:26

Isles of Scilly, a fine enough start but becoming windy with the risk of

2:53:272:53:26

showers late in the day. On the north coast the size of the

2:53:272:53:26

ways increases through the day and by the end of the afternoon it could

2:53:272:53:26

be six feet and messy. That is it for the coastal waters and there is

2:53:272:53:26

more the breeze tomorrow. There, then showers, and generally good

2:53:272:53:26

visibility. At the end of the week and Friday, it will be a fine start

2:53:272:53:26

to the day but quickly becoming cloudy. The cloud will be stubborn

2:53:272:53:26

to shift as you move into the start of the weekend. Note how the wind

2:53:272:53:26

drops right down with light wind and the high pressure comes back and

2:53:272:53:26

there will briefly be sunshine on Sunday.

2:53:272:53:26

Have a good evening. Thank you very much. That is the way

2:53:272:53:26

the news and weather looks on Wednesday evening.

2:53:272:53:26

There will be an update on all the main news at 1025 p.m.
