A vital link for the village which has become an island but it's

:00:11.:00:16.

costing ?1,000 a day. Good evening. The new boat is

:00:17.:00:19.

helping villagers reach the outside world, in some cases for the first

:00:20.:00:28.

time this year. We have had wonderful volunteers coming in and

:00:29.:00:30.

out, bringing of things, which is great, but to know that you can get

:00:31.:00:37.

out yourself is great. As a leading union says migrant

:00:38.:00:40.

workers to pay their way, an interpreter here in the South West

:00:41.:00:44.

says it's still too easy for them to claim benefits. They call this

:00:45.:00:47.

country the field of wonders because it is so easy to get easy money.

:00:48.:00:51.

And he's the feisty ferret who can't find a home ` Grumpy Gareth is

:00:52.:00:55.

causing a rumpus at this animal rescue centre.

:00:56.:00:58.

A village which has been totally cut off by flooding has now been

:00:59.:01:03.

provided with a vital link to the outside world. A boat costing ?1,000

:01:04.:01:08.

a day is helping to get vital supplies into Muchelney on the

:01:09.:01:11.

Somerset levels. It's also helping people who need to leave what is now

:01:12.:01:15.

effectively an island community. But as Sally Challoner now reports,

:01:16.:01:18.

there are growing demands for a longer term solution to reduce the

:01:19.:01:24.

risk of such severe flooding. Sunrise over the Somerset levels.

:01:25.:01:28.

But while the views are stunning, life here at the moment is less so.

:01:29.:01:33.

At least villagers from Muchelney have been able to get to the

:01:34.:01:38.

mainland today. They have been marooned since before the New Year.

:01:39.:01:42.

Wonderful. Finally! So it's a relief. Do you know what I mean?

:01:43.:01:47.

Just to know that you can get in and out. We have had wonderful

:01:48.:01:50.

volunteers coming in and out, bringing us things, which is great.

:01:51.:01:53.

But to know that you yourself can get out is great. And they are here

:01:54.:01:58.

all day at our beck and call! What more can you ask for? ! The boat has

:01:59.:02:02.

been paid for by the County Council but the local MEP says that is a

:02:03.:02:06.

sticking plaster on a problem that needs major surgery. I think we need

:02:07.:02:10.

to be looking at how we deal with water management and whether taking

:02:11.:02:12.

decisions centrally in the Environment Agency is the right

:02:13.:02:17.

thing. Whether we shouldn't be looking at setting up again local

:02:18.:02:19.

drainage boards with representatives of local landowners, local councils,

:02:20.:02:22.

local water companies to make sure that local people who know the area

:02:23.:02:26.

are taking the decisions about where the water goes. There is no arguing

:02:27.:02:36.

with the need. This is the main road to Muchelney. Homes and businesses

:02:37.:02:41.

are submerged too. The clean`up bill is likely to be huge. There is

:02:42.:02:45.

European money available. ?? CYAN We have the opportunity to apply for

:02:46.:02:48.

funding under the European Union Solidarity Fund. We did so five

:02:49.:02:54.

years ago, after the flooding in Gloucestershire. We got some ?30

:02:55.:02:59.

million to help us with the clean`up. I want to see the

:03:00.:03:01.

Government putting in that application within the ten week

:03:02.:03:04.

deadline period and making sure that the people who have suffered are

:03:05.:03:09.

getting some help in the clean`up. While some here are getting used to

:03:10.:03:12.

the attention their situation is creating, most just want life to get

:03:13.:03:20.

back to normal. Well, the BBC's Jon Kay is in

:03:21.:03:24.

Muchelney tonight for a special programme coming up on BBC One later

:03:25.:03:28.

this evening. A short time ago he described the latest situation

:03:29.:03:36.

there. Well, this village is still an island community tonight and the

:03:37.:03:42.

church here has basically become a community centre, a place where

:03:43.:03:46.

people can come and pray and have a time of reflection as they worry

:03:47.:03:49.

about what happens next and what will happen to their flooded

:03:50.:03:52.

properties. It is also a place where they can pick up their groceries

:03:53.:04:00.

that are brought in by rescue boats from the supermarkets in other

:04:01.:04:03.

towns. The post also here. This is the hub where people wait to be

:04:04.:04:09.

returned to normality. The key men this afternoon on one of those

:04:10.:04:14.

boats. Just as we did a couple of days ago. `` we came in. The water

:04:15.:04:18.

levels have dropped a little bit, about three inches. The other day,

:04:19.:04:22.

we were going right over the top of some submerged cars. Now, the roof

:04:23.:04:27.

of the car is with Acorn on the top to make sure the boats realise they

:04:28.:04:33.

are there have become visible. `` with Acorn not on the top. They are

:04:34.:04:40.

in it for the duration. They think it could be a couple of weeks before

:04:41.:04:44.

this please is fully opened up. In the meantime, supplies will keep

:04:45.:04:47.

coming in by boat. People will have to keep trying to get on with life,

:04:48.:04:53.

get out to their jobs and get back to you. It is going to be difficult

:04:54.:04:56.

weekend and a difficult week ahead. Meanwhile, the recent storms have

:04:57.:04:59.

raised concerns about the stability of the region's cliffs. Walkers are

:05:00.:05:02.

being warned to take extra care on the coastal footpath. There have

:05:03.:05:06.

already been a number of land slips and there are fears that the recent

:05:07.:05:09.

heavy rain may cause further problems. Eleanor Parkinson reports.

:05:10.:05:17.

Heavy rain followed by a very dry or very cold weather is bad news for

:05:18.:05:22.

the coastal footpath. Last year in Cornwall, 30 stretches of the

:05:23.:05:25.

footpath had to be closed because of landslides. This week, a section of

:05:26.:05:30.

the footpath in Devon has been shot after cracks began appearing on the

:05:31.:05:36.

ground. Council workers have been assessing the recent damage in

:05:37.:05:39.

Cornwall and walkers have been asked to look out for any problems. We

:05:40.:05:43.

would welcome members of the public reporting to any cracking around the

:05:44.:05:47.

coast path. It is quite obvious. You will see very distinct, linear

:05:48.:05:52.

cracks. You will also start to see some. If you do, walk away from them

:05:53.:05:56.

straightaway and then report into the council and we will deal them.

:05:57.:06:01.

In some parts of the coastline, there have been problems. There has

:06:02.:06:07.

been a landslide here. From the top of the clip, you can see how the

:06:08.:06:10.

grass, youth and rock has broken away, falling 100 feet into the sea.

:06:11.:06:18.

`` grass, moss and rock. This couple are holiday. You have to be careful,

:06:19.:06:23.

any time of the year, but especially this time of year, it is very

:06:24.:06:27.

slippery. You have to take care. High winds, rain. I am more a fewer

:06:28.:06:34.

than a walker! Walkers are also being asked to avoid slipways and

:06:35.:06:37.

harbour walls on Sunday when the wet and windy weather is predicted to

:06:38.:06:42.

return. Onto other news.

:06:43.:06:44.

There's a distinct difference of opinion tonight on the contribution

:06:45.:06:47.

that migrant workers make to the economy of the South West. On the

:06:48.:06:51.

one hand, the TUC has released a guide saying that migrant workers

:06:52.:06:54.

pay 34% more in tax than they take out in public services. But on the

:06:55.:06:57.

other, an interpreter in Cornwall, who helps migrant workers fill in

:06:58.:07:01.

benefits forms, says the system is simply too easy. John Henderson

:07:02.:07:06.

reports. A homage to Cornish labour's past.

:07:07.:07:10.

This week, politicians talked tough about migrant workers and their

:07:11.:07:14.

benefits. UKIP leader Nigel Farage said they should only be paid out

:07:15.:07:19.

after five years. In Redruth, that went down well. We haven't got any

:07:20.:07:23.

money anyway. So please can we, sort of, sort out the things we need to

:07:24.:07:27.

sort out here and not pay money on anybody else? Yeah, at the moment it

:07:28.:07:31.

seems like you're coming across and you're instantly getting a free

:07:32.:07:34.

ticket straight into the system. And this Russian interpreter says the

:07:35.:07:37.

system is too easy, after helping clean benefits for many immigrants.

:07:38.:07:41.

They call this country Field of Wonders because it is so easy to get

:07:42.:07:45.

easy money and it is easier to get benefits and do nothing than to

:07:46.:07:48.

work. The TUC says immigrants bring more benefits to the UK and the

:07:49.:07:59.

south`west. The union says migrants pay 34% more in income tax than they

:08:00.:08:03.

take out in terms of public services. Down here in the West

:08:04.:08:09.

Country, immigration is a very small part of the economy. We're talking

:08:10.:08:13.

about 6% or something like that, in terms of foreign population. And

:08:14.:08:18.

many are coming here to do important jobs or the jobs that local people

:08:19.:08:23.

simply do not want to do. ?? WHITE It might be small but it is still

:08:24.:08:27.

visible. Polish shops in Plymouth. But immigration divides opinion. You

:08:28.:08:32.

know, they're taking the jobs off us so I'm not happy. If they're here to

:08:33.:08:36.

work there then I think everybody has their rights. ?? YELLOW Jobs in

:08:37.:08:40.

this country should go to people in this country. If you've got more

:08:41.:08:43.

diversity coming in... Well, it can't only be but it is mostly a

:08:44.:08:48.

good thing. Whether immigration is good or bad, one thing is clear,

:08:49.:09:01.

controlling it is not easy. Unions are warning that Torbay

:09:02.:09:05.

Council might not be viable as an authority in five years' time, if it

:09:06.:09:08.

continues with severe budget cuts. The union, the Torbay and District

:09:09.:09:11.

Trades Council, says the ?27 million the local authority has to save over

:09:12.:09:15.

the next two years could force it to merge with another council.

:09:16.:09:18.

Our South Devon reporter John Ayres has more.

:09:19.:09:23.

Just four years ago, Torbay was celebrating the opening of a stock

:09:24.:09:27.

Centre which provides accommodation and support for homeless people. It

:09:28.:09:32.

could now lose half its funding from Torbay Council, putting the centre

:09:33.:09:37.

at risk. What it will clearly do, you will see increases in

:09:38.:09:42.

anti`social behaviour, hospital admissions through AMD. Much of the

:09:43.:09:48.

work that we do is not just about preventing homelessness, it is

:09:49.:09:50.

associated behaviours that may go with it. Like most local

:09:51.:09:53.

authorities, Torbay council is having to make large cut of the

:09:54.:09:59.

result of a reduction in the grant from central government. When you

:10:00.:10:03.

have to make such large cuts, how do you protect the most vulnerable?

:10:04.:10:09.

Toby's budget which helps vulnerable groups is facing a cut of 73%. I do

:10:10.:10:15.

not want to help any Torbay that turns its back on the needy. When

:10:16.:10:18.

there are people sleeping in doorways, no help for elderly people

:10:19.:10:21.

who want to carry on living in their own homes, no support for people

:10:22.:10:25.

battling drug and alcohol addictions. I don't want to live in

:10:26.:10:30.

a place like that. I want to live any just and decent Toby. The cuts

:10:31.:10:35.

will also have a big impact on jobs. The unions fear the council

:10:36.:10:38.

will no longer be valuable in four years' time. We will end up having

:10:39.:10:45.

to look at other options, sharing services with different councils.

:10:46.:10:47.

Probably, what may happen at a later date, a merger of a whole South

:10:48.:10:55.

Devon youth authority. The mayor himself admits the

:10:56.:10:57.

authorities might have to share some services in the future but is

:10:58.:11:00.

confident they can help any of the groups that are now facing cuts. We

:11:01.:11:04.

would not have done it at all we have been forced to do them by the

:11:05.:11:08.

members of Parliament and budgetary situation in this country. We have

:11:09.:11:12.

to find a way around it, find new ways of undertaking things, working

:11:13.:11:16.

together in partnership with the Health Service and voluntary

:11:17.:11:20.

organisations and we can probably help some of these organisations

:11:21.:11:24.

working with us to overcome some of these problems.

:11:25.:11:26.

A final decision on Toby's what it is expected in the next few weeks.

:11:27.:11:32.

`` Toby's budget. Also coming up:

:11:33.:11:36.

Gibbons will have a week ahead to the sporting action. Also:

:11:37.:11:40.

Finally honoured for their bravery ` veterans of the Arctic Convoys

:11:41.:11:43.

receive their medals at a special ceremony.

:11:44.:11:45.

And running amok at the rescue centre, Grumpy Gareth the ferret

:11:46.:11:48.

just can't get on with his neighbours.

:11:49.:11:51.

`` the Cornish entertainer Freddie Zap has pleaded not guilty to sexual

:11:52.:12:05.

assault at Crown Court. The offences are alleged to have taken place last

:12:06.:12:09.

year. He has been released on bail and will face trial later this year.

:12:10.:12:15.

The largest joint police operation of its kind in the country to ways

:12:16.:12:19.

in Plymouth overnight, targeting illegal drug use. 40 officers, along

:12:20.:12:22.

with sniffer dogs from the Navy, Devon and Cornwall Police and the

:12:23.:12:26.

MoD took part in the patrols in the city centre. `` took place in

:12:27.:12:28.

Plymouth. Spotlight's Anna Varle went out with them.

:12:29.:12:35.

Two teams, three sniffer dogs and undercover CID. Their first stop was

:12:36.:12:41.

the Union Rooms. The officers secured the site and then the dogs

:12:42.:12:45.

were sent in. There were 150 patrons within the pub. It was surrounded by

:12:46.:12:53.

officers, secured and the successful drug search was completed with no

:12:54.:12:59.

arrests. No arrests? None. Is that surprising? Not surprising.

:13:00.:13:03.

Hopefully that is indicative of the rest of the night. This was just the

:13:04.:13:08.

first of eight bars and clubs to be searched. Many of the officers had

:13:09.:13:12.

never worked together before. We have started working on lot more

:13:13.:13:14.

closely with Devon and Cornwall Police and our volition chip has

:13:15.:13:19.

flourished. It seemed only right and proper that we moved to the next

:13:20.:13:22.

scale and escalate things to the next level and move our operations

:13:23.:13:27.

in and work together. The goal of the operation was to test whether

:13:28.:13:32.

combining operation of resources on such a larger scale would work in

:13:33.:13:35.

detecting drug use in personnel and civilians. The naval police were

:13:36.:13:38.

responsible for arresting those in the forces. Devon and Cornwall

:13:39.:13:43.

officers were concentrating on everyone else. The military police

:13:44.:13:47.

have a much tougher set of regulations around the use of drugs.

:13:48.:13:52.

The tolerance drug policy. For them, it is a greater level of

:13:53.:13:57.

punishment. The police say that Plymouth has no greater problem with

:13:58.:14:00.

drug use than any other busy city in the country. But what they have been

:14:01.:14:03.

doing for the last nine months is focusing on the higher offences, the

:14:04.:14:08.

drug trafficking offences, not the straight possession offences that we

:14:09.:14:11.

have seen tonight. That is what this operation is all about. It is going

:14:12.:14:14.

to kick`start a new way of making sure premises Mickeys remain

:14:15.:14:19.

drug`free. `` premises like these. There have been eight was that of

:14:20.:14:23.

detection. One female has been arrested. On the partnership side,

:14:24.:14:30.

all for half a foot together. It has gone smoothly and we look forward to

:14:31.:14:33.

further working together in the future. `` we have worked very well

:14:34.:14:40.

together. With ever`increasing cuts to the

:14:41.:14:44.

forces, it is hoped that pooling resources will significantly reduce

:14:45.:14:47.

drug misuse in the city. Time for the sport and Dave's here

:14:48.:14:51.

with a new bowling sensation in English cricket. It's about time we

:14:52.:14:58.

had one! You can say that again but don't.

:14:59.:15:00.

Hello. Exeter Chiefs, virtually out of

:15:01.:15:02.

rugby's European Heineken Cup, can still qualify for the Challenge Cup,

:15:03.:15:05.

providing they win their final two pool ties ` Glasgow Warriors at

:15:06.:15:09.

Sandy Park tomorrow and at Cardiff Blues in a week's time.

:15:10.:15:12.

Dave Lewis retains his place as scrum`half after scoring for the

:15:13.:15:15.

Chiefs in last week's narrow loss to Wasps. Henry Slade partners him at

:15:16.:15:18.

fly`half, while full`back Luke Arscott captains Exeter. Head coach

:15:19.:15:21.

Rob Baxter makes 11 changes in total.

:15:22.:15:25.

Well, we're halfway through the football season and Yeovil Town need

:15:26.:15:29.

to reenergise if they're to avoid an immediate return to League One.

:15:30.:15:33.

It's a difficult start to the second half of the Championship campaign

:15:34.:15:36.

for manager Gary Johnson against the second`placed team Burnley at Huish

:15:37.:15:41.

Park. The big match in League Two is at Home Park, where two in`form

:15:42.:15:45.

teams meet head on ` Plymouth Argyle and Southend. Jason Banton is back

:15:46.:15:48.

at Argyle after re`joining them from Crystal Palace on a permanent basis.

:15:49.:15:52.

The 21`year`old scored six goals whilst on loan at the Pilgrims last

:15:53.:16:03.

season. Even though we were in a relegation battle last year, I kind

:16:04.:16:08.

of played with the freedom of just being there to help. I really

:16:09.:16:11.

enjoyed it last year and hope fully more of the same.

:16:12.:16:14.

Exeter City have lost three out of their last four matches in League

:16:15.:16:17.

Two, so will need to stabilise at Bristol Rovers tomorrow. They've

:16:18.:16:20.

dropped into the lower half of the table and need another of their

:16:21.:16:23.

impressive away performances to give them a fillip. It's Chris

:16:24.:16:26.

Hargreaves' first match in charge of struggling Torquay United, after his

:16:27.:16:29.

appointment this week. It's at AFC Wimbledon, with the new incumbent

:16:30.:16:32.

admitting he's a little nervous about his managerial debut. I will

:16:33.:16:40.

be nervous in a good way, a good way. I am going to walk out there

:16:41.:16:44.

and be really proud that I have got a team and I am leading the team out

:16:45.:16:48.

and then I want them to look at me on that side and work for me.

:16:49.:16:51.

England's cricket team may be in tatters, but could a partnership in

:16:52.:16:55.

the South West help produce the next fast bowling star? Aadil Rashid has

:16:56.:16:58.

teamed up with former Somerset cricketer Steffan Jones in a bid to

:16:59.:17:02.

make his dream of bowling at 90mph a reality. Andy Birkett went to find

:17:03.:17:12.

out more. He may have hung up his boots but

:17:13.:17:17.

Stephan has now turned his attention to the next generation. And he has

:17:18.:17:26.

found the perfect people. He has the most biomechanical efficient action

:17:27.:17:30.

I have seen any youngster. It is really explosive at the crease. He

:17:31.:17:33.

has a long delivery stride, a greater delay on the right side of

:17:34.:17:37.

his body. He uses stored energy in his right side, in his hips. He can

:17:38.:17:45.

bowl genuinely quickly for his age. Yes just concerned `` he has just

:17:46.:17:50.

turned 16 and has moved from Birmingham to take advantage of

:17:51.:17:53.

Stephan's expertise. It is not just cricket, body wise, I have grown up

:17:54.:18:01.

and still maturing so I am learning every day. His training is tailored

:18:02.:18:08.

for power and speed but his bowling at 90 mph, is it a realistic ago?

:18:09.:18:12.

Bear I think it is incredibly realistic. `` with the structure and

:18:13.:18:20.

support I have, I think it is a great goal to achieve. His natural

:18:21.:18:26.

ability, I believe you can do it. England are crying out for fast

:18:27.:18:29.

bowlers at the moment. We do not have a Mitchell Johnson and I think

:18:30.:18:34.

we do have one here at this school. What is it being likes to get the

:18:35.:18:37.

other end? With your money where your mouth is! Put your pants on,

:18:38.:18:42.

yet in there and face him. Sensibly, I declined. Would you? !

:18:43.:18:52.

We have Mitchell Johnson lined up for UNIX. Take care!

:18:53.:18:54.

Finally, the Zara Phillips`trained horse Youhavetoo features in the

:18:55.:18:57.

maiden race at Sunday's point to point meeting at Black Forest Lodge

:18:58.:19:00.

at Kenton near Exeter. The first race is at 12 noon. Try to get

:19:01.:19:07.

along. Hopefully it will be a nice day.

:19:08.:19:08.

Hope so. A special ceremony took place today

:19:09.:19:11.

in Somerset to honour the efforts of some of the forgotten heroes of

:19:12.:19:14.

World War Two. Ten Arctic Star medals were presented to those who

:19:15.:19:18.

helped supply Russia in the Arctic Convoys, which lasted throughout the

:19:19.:19:21.

war. The Government introduced the medals in 2012, more than six

:19:22.:19:25.

decades after the conflict ended. Hamish Marshall was at the ceremony

:19:26.:19:33.

in Yeovilton. It was 8/2 but a vital job. `` a

:19:34.:19:44.

tough but vital. The Arctic convoys delivered aid to the Soviet Union

:19:45.:19:47.

during the Second World War, running the gauntlet of submarine, flight

:19:48.:19:51.

and surface ship attacks. The main thing was the cold. Not only was it

:19:52.:19:56.

absolutely freezing on the deck with the wind, but the thought that if my

:19:57.:20:03.

single engine aircraft, if the engine failed, I would be in the

:20:04.:20:09.

waters of minus 10 Celsius. That is what frightened me most, I think. If

:20:10.:20:13.

the engine stopped and I had to land in the water. This is a long serving

:20:14.:20:20.

member of the helicopter test pilot. John received one of ten Arctic Star

:20:21.:20:28.

medals today. The chance to remember and to share stories. It was

:20:29.:20:31.

necessary because the Russians wanted all the ornaments, aircraft,

:20:32.:20:38.

tanks, lorries, everything that a country needs to keep the services

:20:39.:20:44.

and the army going. Today's fitting, in an area of a museum which

:20:45.:20:49.

commemorates the battle of the Atlantic, was very appropriate. The

:20:50.:20:54.

idea of bringing the Bollinger and having a naval officer give out the

:20:55.:21:01.

medals was a privilege. How nice is to have the recognition question and

:21:02.:21:07.

clamour it is very nice but I would like to know why they have get it

:21:08.:21:11.

for so long! To many, the medals have come too late. Sadly, three of

:21:12.:21:15.

those who should have been here today have died.

:21:16.:21:20.

The incredible veterans of the Arctic convoys.

:21:21.:21:22.

A feisty ferret is causing a kerfuffle at a Plymouth rescue

:21:23.:21:26.

centre. Grumpy Gareth has such a bad attitude problem nobody wants to

:21:27.:21:29.

adopt him. He was taken home by new owners but

:21:30.:21:33.

they marched him back to the isolation wing of Woodside's high

:21:34.:21:36.

security Ferret fun house because he can't get along with other ferrets.

:21:37.:21:39.

Johnny Rutherford has been to meet him.

:21:40.:21:43.

He has taken his life into his own hands!

:21:44.:21:52.

Meet Gareth, a five`year`old white albino ferret has a bit of an

:21:53.:22:04.

attitude rotten so he gets called Grant `` Grumpy Gareth. Somebody

:22:05.:22:07.

called him Victor Meldrew the other day but he is happy. He is

:22:08.:22:13.

misunderstood, not grumpy. He is set in his ways. He knows what he likes

:22:14.:22:19.

and likes what he knows, I think. This area is the ferret fun house

:22:20.:22:24.

but unfortunately for Grumpy Gareth, he is not allowed to play

:22:25.:22:26.

with the others because he is not very sociable. Instead, he has his

:22:27.:22:32.

own bachelor pad. You're not really grumpy, are you, Gareth? I think his

:22:33.:22:38.

yellowing meets believe he is. Most people looking for ferrets are

:22:39.:22:41.

looking for a companion for an existing ferret so obviously they

:22:42.:22:45.

are sociable, living in families of more than eight. Him, he is just a

:22:46.:22:50.

little loner, unfortunately. He did find a home but the people

:22:51.:22:55.

wanted more of an indoor ferret and Gareth likes the outdoors and was a

:22:56.:23:01.

bit mischievous. Our ferrets good pets yes.

:23:02.:23:06.

Very sociable, Hannibal, a great laugh to watch and play. People take

:23:07.:23:12.

them out on harnesses to walk. `` very sociable, funny.

:23:13.:23:22.

Oh, dear little Gareth! Misunderstood, not grumpy. He

:23:23.:23:24.

reminds me of someone, just in. Now, with a look at the weekend

:23:25.:23:26.

weather prospects, reminds me of someone, just in.

:23:27.:23:30.

Now, with here's Kawser. More in the way of cloud around this

:23:31.:23:37.

evening and some patchy light rain making its way across us but it will

:23:38.:23:40.

clear for tomorrow. Tomorrow, the start of the weekend, dry, bright

:23:41.:23:43.

weather with sunshine, surprisingly. It will be a pleasant

:23:44.:23:47.

day. Feeling quite cool was later winds. A crisp, winter day in four

:23:48.:23:52.

before more in the way of cloud and rain to end the weekend on Sunday.

:23:53.:23:55.

This week weather front is what is raining the cloud this evening but

:23:56.:24:00.

it will clear through so for tomorrow, we are looking at much

:24:01.:24:02.

more in the way of sunshine, with high pressure building for the day.

:24:03.:24:07.

Later winds, as I mentioned, but look behind me, the next area of low

:24:08.:24:10.

pressure and weather fronts which will come towards us for Sunday. A

:24:11.:24:13.

brief respite from the stormy weather. For Sunday, wet, windy

:24:14.:24:18.

weather. Look at how to get isobars are. It will be strengthening winds

:24:19.:24:21.

throughout the course of the day but not as much rain as we have seen

:24:22.:24:26.

lately. For this evening, that light, patchy rain will continue to

:24:27.:24:29.

clear through and by the early hours, under the clear skies,

:24:30.:24:33.

editors are likely to fall. In towns and cities, we are looking at around

:24:34.:24:38.

Celsius but it will be cooler in rural spots. The dot of frost and

:24:39.:24:43.

also from icy stretches. In fact, there was a Met Office be aware

:24:44.:24:48.

warning for the risk of some ice on untreated roads and pavements. Take

:24:49.:24:51.

care of your out and about tomorrow. Tomorrow itself, the cloud will thin

:24:52.:24:55.

and break and we will see sunshine in the forecast. The winds will be

:24:56.:25:00.

lighter but it is quite chilly. Temperatures in towns and cities

:25:01.:25:04.

around nine or 10 Celsius at best. In the sunshine, with those later

:25:05.:25:07.

winds, it will be a nice day as long as you're up top fairly warmly. For

:25:08.:25:12.

the alpha silly, after any rain clears away, we're looking at a dry

:25:13.:25:17.

day, a brighter day with sunshine, like twins but feeling quite cool.

:25:18.:25:19.

`` the Isles of Scilly. The coastal waters forecast for

:25:20.:25:46.

tomorrow, the winds are south`westerly, bearing northerly.

:25:47.:25:53.

There will be some occasional rain to start the day but generally, we

:25:54.:25:57.

are looking at mostly dry conditions and some occasional moderate

:25:58.:26:01.

visibility but generally quite good. The outlook then, tomorrow is the

:26:02.:26:06.

better day of the weekend. Some crisp sunshine, lighter winds,

:26:07.:26:09.

before more in the way of cloud and rain to come later in the day on

:26:10.:26:12.

Sunday. Rather unsettled conditions for the start of next week also. Not

:26:13.:26:17.

a significant amount of rain but we are looking at around 50 millimetres

:26:18.:26:21.

but falling on already saturated ground and from swollen rivers. ``

:26:22.:26:24.

15 millilitres. If you are concerned, this is the flood plain

:26:25.:26:29.

number. Had a great weekend. Well, at the end of a week in which

:26:30.:26:34.

the forces of nature have dominated the news yet again, we'll leave

:26:35.:26:37.

tonight with some of the pictures showing the effects of the storms.

:26:38.:26:40.

There are also many more of your pictures of the severe weather on

:26:41.:26:45.

the BBC Spotlight Facebook page. From all of us here, goodnight.
