Good evening. Hundreds of young That is it for now. | :00:21. | :00:21.
Good evening. Hundreds of young farmers from across the country have | :00:22. | :00:24.
been in Somerset this weekend, helping to rebuild farms and recover | :00:25. | :00:27.
land devastated by the floods. One couple, who've been farming in | :00:28. | :00:29.
Moorland for forty years, say they would have struggled to recover | :00:30. | :00:32.
without the support of the farming community. Here's Jules Hyam. | :00:33. | :00:35.
Instead of enjoying their farmstead home, the Hutchings are living in a | :00:36. | :00:38.
caravan. The view out across their farm is not what it once was. All of | :00:39. | :00:42.
this has to be cleared out, and those barn buildings back there will | :00:43. | :00:45.
have to be pulled down. It has really been awful ` worse | :00:46. | :00:49.
than awful. It took us a fortnight to realise we were in this world. It | :00:50. | :00:57.
was such a shock. Everything went. It will take months for Battens Farm | :00:58. | :01:00.
to recover ` weeks just to clear the land. But the Hutchings are being | :01:01. | :01:05.
helped by younger farmers. We're just really struggling at the | :01:06. | :01:08.
moment. As you can imagine, the cattle have been moved off. As you | :01:09. | :01:11.
can see, it's just utter devastation. We, as young farmers, | :01:12. | :01:15.
want to do our bit to help the rest of the farming community. | :01:16. | :01:21.
That has meant lifting, carrying and clearing this farm and dozens of | :01:22. | :01:26.
others like it. We came back here and thought how on | :01:27. | :01:30.
earth do we get started? Where do we get start? The young farmers have | :01:31. | :01:34.
been here now ` I think this is the third week. They are absolutely | :01:35. | :01:42.
brilliant. Police in Devon are hunting a man | :01:43. | :01:45.
who stole thousands of pounds worth of jewellery from a shop in Honiton | :01:46. | :01:48.
after attacking a woman as she arrived for work. Hundreds of rings, | :01:49. | :01:51.
bracelets and necklaces were taken from Banwell Antiques at 9am | :01:52. | :01:55.
yesterday morning. Detectives say the woman was shaken but unhurt. | :01:56. | :02:02.
6,000 chickens have died in a blaze at a barn near Exeter. Firefighters | :02:03. | :02:05.
from across east Devon were called to Rosamondford Farm in Aylesbeare | :02:06. | :02:08.
this morning. Six gas cylinders had to be removed from the site. | :02:09. | :02:14.
Firefighters helped move cattle and other livestock to safety. It's | :02:15. | :02:16.
understood the blaze started accidentally. | :02:17. | :02:22.
One of Truro Cathedral's organists has been appointed as the new organ | :02:23. | :02:26.
scholar at St Paul's Cathedral. Rachel Mahon is making history ` | :02:27. | :02:29.
she'll be the first female organist at St Paul's. Johnny Rutherford has | :02:30. | :02:39.
been to hear her play. Truro's pipes being given a proper | :02:40. | :02:45.
work`out. The music ` The Tocatta ` by a female Canadian composer, | :02:46. | :02:47.
played today by Truro's organ scholar who is from Toronto. | :02:48. | :02:54.
I knew I wanted to come to England to work in an English cathedral | :02:55. | :02:57.
because we don't have the same structure at home, where a cathedral | :02:58. | :03:00.
choir is singing every day. I accepted Truro's offer because they | :03:01. | :03:03.
have a famous organ, a world`renowned choir, and it is an | :03:04. | :03:06.
excellent place to work and gain experience. | :03:07. | :03:11.
But, in September, Rachel will be off to London to become the first | :03:12. | :03:14.
female organist at St Pauls Cathedral. | :03:15. | :03:20.
There is such a wide range of sounds you can make on the organ, from | :03:21. | :03:23.
very, very soft to extremely loud and powerful, filling an entire | :03:24. | :03:26.
building such as St Pauls. It's the experience of a lifetime. | :03:27. | :03:38.
So, what makes Rachel so good? She has a good connection between | :03:39. | :03:41.
her brain and her fingers, frankly. She also has a very steady | :03:42. | :03:44.
temperament under pressure, and when there are lots of people listening | :03:45. | :03:47.
to her she seems to perform extremely well. | :03:48. | :03:50.
Truro Cathedral has a strong tradition of scholars gaining top | :03:51. | :03:53.
organist positions, but Rachel is making history. | :03:54. | :04:07.
In today's rugby there were mixed fortunes for our sides. The Exeter | :04:08. | :04:11.
Chiefs were brought back down to earth with a bump following last | :04:12. | :04:14.
week's Anglo`Welsh Cup win. They were thrashed by 45 points to 15 by | :04:15. | :04:17.
reigning champions Leicester Tigers at Welford Road. The only highlights | :04:18. | :04:23.
were Ian Whitten's fourth try in four Premiership games and a first | :04:24. | :04:28.
half score for hooker Jack Yendell. While in the Championship, the | :04:29. | :04:31.
Pirates saw off Nottingham 17`11 at the Mennaye. | :04:32. | :04:35.
And, finally, hundreds of fundraising runners took part in | :04:36. | :04:37.
this year's Sport Relief event at the University of St Mark and St | :04:38. | :04:41.
John in Plymouth today. Nat and Fitz were there cheering them on. Young | :04:42. | :04:49.
and old, those taking part pounded a course of either one, three or six | :04:50. | :04:53.
miles. It was cold and it was windy but it was all for a great cause. | :04:54. | :05:07.
Good evening. It turned into a really nice day today ` fewer | :05:08. | :05:12.
showers around, some good spells of sunshine, but under clear skies the | :05:13. | :05:15.
temperatures are already taking a tumble. A very cold night to come, | :05:16. | :05:19.
and a sharp frost for some of us tomorrow morning. You can see those | :05:20. | :05:22.
clear skies persisting in the East as we go through the night, but by | :05:23. | :05:25.
the morning we've got cloud advancing towards the tip of | :05:26. | :05:28.
Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Temperatures here not quite as cold, | :05:29. | :05:31.
but one or two Celsius at the coast. Towards the East, it will be colder | :05:32. | :05:34.
than that inland. As we start tomorrow morning, we'll have | :05:35. | :05:37.
sunshine just hanging on in the east towards the West, so that cloud and | :05:38. | :05:40.
rain is moving across us. Temperatures at best nine or ten. | :05:41. | :05:43.
Where the cloud comes in quite quickly, it could be colder than | :05:44. | :05:46.
that through the day tomorrow. We do have some rain around through this | :05:47. | :05:50.
week, and as you can see an easterly wind developing by the end. | :05:51. | :05:53.
Goodbye. Hello. Following today's showers, | :05:54. | :06:12.
tonight is going to be much colder. Clear skies, light winds, a recipe | :06:13. | :06:17.
for a widespread frost. Sharp showers for the next couple of | :06:18. | :06:21.
hours. From East Yorkshire to the south-east. Hail and thunder. Skies | :06:22. | :06:26.
will clear across many areas. Temperatures tumbling across rural | :06:27. | :06:32.
parts it could be as low as minus six. Not as cold across Northern | :06:33. | :06:36.
Ireland and the far south-west. Increasing cloud ahead of the | :06:37. | :06:40.
weather front pushing rain very slowly in from the Atlantic. Central | :06:41. | :06:45.
and eastern areas staying dry and | :06:46. | :06:46. |
