firepowep an military dxercisds That is all from the BBC News | :00:00. | :00:11.
Half the size she was. But hs surgery the way to deal with | :00:12. | :00:20.
obesity? The hardest one is not drinking 30 minutes before or after | :00:21. | :00:24.
a meal. But it is all worth it because it gives you back your life. | :00:25. | :00:27.
Good evening. Welcome to Spotlight. The number of people having | :00:28. | :00:30.
operations in the South West is soaring. We'll ask a professional | :00:31. | :00:33.
body if the money couldn't be better spent. | :00:34. | :00:35.
Also tonight: Getting rid of the rats to save rare sea birds. Poison | :00:36. | :00:40.
is being put down on the Isles of Scilly to stop the predators eating | :00:41. | :00:43.
eggs and chicks. And go girls! Plymouth's divers | :00:44. | :00:45.
secure silver in the World Series. Good evening. Surgery is only meant | :00:46. | :00:59.
to be considered in the most extreme cases of obesity. But there's been a | :01:00. | :01:03.
big jump in the number of operations being carried out on the NHS in the | :01:04. | :01:06.
South West. In Cornwall the figure has risen by 40%. In the last five | :01:07. | :01:10.
years in Devon an estimated ?9 million has been spent giving 8 0 | :01:11. | :01:15.
people a gastric band. So is that a good use of public money? Wd'll | :01:16. | :01:18.
examine the wider issues in moment but first Jenny Kumah has this | :01:19. | :01:25.
report. Do you see the difference in the | :01:26. | :01:31.
skirt? When this woman weighed 0 stone she rarely left the house and | :01:32. | :01:37.
her husband became her main carer. He would come in and wash md, we | :01:38. | :01:42.
have got a wet room, dress le, help me in and out of bed, out of the | :01:43. | :01:47.
chair. Even personal things like the toilet. She had a gastric bxpass | :01:48. | :01:54.
seven years ago because she and her doctors felt it was the onlx way she | :01:55. | :01:58.
could successfully lose weight. The operation means she cannot dat very | :01:59. | :02:02.
much because the size of her stomach has been reduced. You have got to | :02:03. | :02:08.
retrain yourself on eating smaller portions, not drinking with meals, | :02:09. | :02:14.
the hardest one is not drinking 30 minutes before or after your meal. | :02:15. | :02:18.
But it is all worth it becatse it gives you back your life. The NHS | :02:19. | :02:23.
has faced criticism for offdring this operation. It says surgery as a | :02:24. | :02:28.
last resort and patients ard carefully selected. In Devon the NHS | :02:29. | :02:33.
has spent around ?9 million on weight loss surgery since 2009. This | :02:34. | :02:40.
man used to weigh 33 stone. Before he had a gastric bypass. I `m | :02:41. | :02:47.
feeling the benefits of it. I have not got any other problems xou have | :02:48. | :02:51.
associated with being overwdight, such as asthma, so in the long run | :02:52. | :03:02.
that is going to save money. A new ?300,000 service to tackle obesity | :03:03. | :03:06.
has started in Devon, meaning some people will be able to get free | :03:07. | :03:11.
membership for a gym or comlercial swill `` slimming programme. | :03:12. | :03:15.
So do more people need the operation or are doctors really making it a | :03:16. | :03:19.
last resort. I spoke to Tam Fry form the National Obesity Forum ` little | :03:20. | :03:27.
earlier. It means both. There are certainly more people getting fatter | :03:28. | :03:31.
and fatter. But also the local authorities in your area understand | :03:32. | :03:39.
that surgery is a cost`effective operation and you're going to get | :03:40. | :03:43.
more of them done. I thought it was meant to be a last resort? Ht is and | :03:44. | :03:49.
should be a last resort. Solebody wanting the surgery should have a | :03:50. | :03:52.
degree of weight loss managdment before that. The problem with that | :03:53. | :03:58.
is that they are already grossly fat and they will therefore find losing | :03:59. | :04:02.
weight very difficult. Some people might look at this and think, this | :04:03. | :04:08.
is solvable in that way, and money could be better spent on drtgs for | :04:09. | :04:14.
other conditions? That is what some people think, and they would be | :04:15. | :04:17.
right, but life is not alwaxs like that. If you are very overwdight, it | :04:18. | :04:23.
is extremely difficult to exercise. Therefore the whole process of | :04:24. | :04:26.
losing weight becomes very slow and laboratory is. In the end a short, | :04:27. | :04:31.
sharp shock might be a bettdr answer. It was recommended by the | :04:32. | :04:39.
National Institute of clinical excellence that it should bd the | :04:40. | :04:45.
last resort. The whole country is being treated much more effdctively | :04:46. | :04:50.
as a second resort. So it is more cost`effective? It is, if you bring | :04:51. | :04:57.
fat people down to a standard size, they will not require treatlent for | :04:58. | :05:03.
other diseases resulting from being overweight, such as diabetes, | :05:04. | :05:08.
cancer, kidney problems. In the long run, the surgery saves the NHS a lot | :05:09. | :05:14.
of money. Thank you very much. UKIP has today defended a sdnior | :05:15. | :05:17.
party official from Devon who made controversial remarks about Muslims | :05:18. | :05:21.
and women in the workplace. Yesterday the party dropped one of | :05:22. | :05:24.
its election candidates for unacceptable comments. Our political | :05:25. | :05:31.
editor Martyn Oates is with me now to tell us more. | :05:32. | :05:34.
What did he actually say about Muslims? He was quoted in a | :05:35. | :05:41.
newspaper offering any Muslhms who might be reading what he called a | :05:42. | :05:45.
potential moneyspinner. In other words, saying that they could marry | :05:46. | :05:48.
more than one wife in countries where that is legal, then bring | :05:49. | :05:54.
those waves to the UK to benefit from the welfare state. The party | :05:55. | :05:58.
has said he was simply raishng a legitimate issue for debate about | :05:59. | :06:03.
the way men with multiple whves interact. Have you spoken to him | :06:04. | :06:12.
today? No. I went down to UKIP's headquarters, at he was app`rently | :06:13. | :06:16.
too busy. He did, the receptionist, give me a copy of his new book. It | :06:17. | :06:23.
is a collection of newspaper columns he previously wrote. Another one of | :06:24. | :06:27.
these has created controversy today. He quotes another writer describing | :06:28. | :06:34.
Greeks as vile on the basis that when they are on the road they go | :06:35. | :06:39.
out of their way to run over dogs. He was quoting somebody elsd, but he | :06:40. | :06:45.
goes on to say, there is botnd to be some generalisation here. Hd | :06:46. | :06:49.
contrasts that with the response of the average British motorist to for | :06:50. | :06:56.
instance, a family of ducks, they create a two mile tailback. He also | :06:57. | :07:02.
quotes from a letter he recdived at UKIP headquarters from a pensioner. | :07:03. | :07:11.
Parliament is his enemy for requiring to pay for food, clothing | :07:12. | :07:16.
and keeping foreign invaders away. Thank you. | :07:17. | :07:18.
"It's turned our lives upside down," the words of one of the manx tenants | :07:19. | :07:22.
who have been told to move out of their homes in Somerset. Thd Crown | :07:23. | :07:25.
Estate, which runs propertids and land across the country for the | :07:26. | :07:29.
Treasury, plans to sell 45 homes. As Paul Barltrop reports tenants are | :07:30. | :07:32.
being offered the chance to buy But many say it's beyond their leans. | :07:33. | :07:37.
After all these years, I do not want to be anywhere else. Ruth Khng has | :07:38. | :07:44.
lived in her cottage for 15 years. She and her family got a shock when | :07:45. | :07:48.
they received a letter from their landlord, the Crown Estate. By the | :07:49. | :07:51.
end of August, it seems certain they would be forced out. Awful, turned | :07:52. | :07:59.
our lives upside down. Could not get to sleep, woke up in the morning | :08:00. | :08:04.
crying. The thought of having to move, having been here for so long, | :08:05. | :08:08.
it is devastating. We would never find anywhere like this. Her | :08:09. | :08:13.
neighbour has not had a letter yet. But neither can afford to bty. The | :08:14. | :08:17.
properties are being offered at market rates. The homes are part of | :08:18. | :08:22.
the Crown Estate, which owns 40 0 hectares of land in Somerset. Each | :08:23. | :08:27.
year, it brings in the government a quarter of ?1 billion. The Crown | :08:28. | :08:30.
Estate say they are sympathdtic but the law dictates they must operate | :08:31. | :08:37.
on a commercial basis. All of the tenants involved in this process | :08:38. | :08:40.
have the opportunity either to buy their homes, and quite a nulber have | :08:41. | :08:44.
shown interest, or have extdnded periods of up to six months to | :08:45. | :08:48.
enable them to find another place to live. If there are particul`r areas | :08:49. | :08:55.
of concern, we are dealing with all of these cases on a face`to`face | :08:56. | :08:59.
basis, individually, to makd sure we can be as flexible as possible. Ruth | :09:00. | :09:05.
is looking, but finding a home but can take her, her husband, children | :09:06. | :09:08.
and chickens, is going to bd daunting. | :09:09. | :09:11.
The Royal Navy is withdrawing the Devonport based submarine from the | :09:12. | :09:13.
search for the missing Malaxsia Airlines flight MH370. HMS Tireless | :09:14. | :09:16.
used specialist sonar equiplent to try and locate the plane's black | :09:17. | :09:23.
box. But it was stood down `fter the Australian command announced there | :09:24. | :09:26.
was "no prospect" of detecthng further "pings" from the box. | :09:27. | :09:28.
Conditions at Dartmoor Prison have seen some improvements but lore | :09:29. | :09:31.
still needs to be done. That's according to a report today from the | :09:32. | :09:35.
Chief Inspector of Prisons which says the jail is difficult to run | :09:36. | :09:38.
due to its age, location and the state of some of its buildings. | :09:39. | :09:42.
However, despite uncertaintx over its future, staff and managdrs say | :09:43. | :09:45.
they remain committed to improving it further. | :09:46. | :09:55.
Later in the programme we whll be revisiting some new recruits. Which | :09:56. | :10:00.
of the police puppies made the grade? Find out. And food, glorious | :10:01. | :10:06.
food. The region's finest at the Exeter Festival. | :10:07. | :10:13.
The RSPB says the eradication of rats on part of the Isles of Scilly | :10:14. | :10:17.
will help rare species of sda birds recover after years of declhne. | :10:18. | :10:21.
Poison has been used to remove the birds' main predator which had been | :10:22. | :10:24.
eating their eggs and chicks. Our Environment Correspondent Adrian | :10:25. | :10:30.
Campbell has the details. The Isles of Scilly have bedn chosen | :10:31. | :10:34.
as an ideal location for a bold experiment to help bring back sea | :10:35. | :10:38.
birds, which have seen a dr`matic fall in numbers in recent ydars the | :10:39. | :10:42.
cars of the brown rat. Now the rats have been removed in a | :10:43. | :10:46.
community`based programme on two Islands. For the first time, these | :10:47. | :10:53.
birds will return to the islands. They will not have these rats coming | :10:54. | :10:58.
in and eating their chicks. We do expect to see an increase in the | :10:59. | :11:04.
first year. This is a long`term project, we need to keep monitoring | :11:05. | :11:07.
the island, and this is the first step. Special traps have bedn used | :11:08. | :11:13.
to remove the rats, and effort are still being made by a team of | :11:14. | :11:15.
volunteers with distinctive orange hats. They use traps to check for | :11:16. | :11:21.
any stray rats which managed to swim ashore from nearby islands. Removing | :11:22. | :11:27.
the rats raising an epic `` is raising an ethical problem, some | :11:28. | :11:34.
argue, but many disagree. The storm petrol, this is the only pl`ce it | :11:35. | :11:39.
breeds in England, these ard incredibly special places for these | :11:40. | :11:44.
birds. The rats were accidentally introduced, and ethically it is a | :11:45. | :11:47.
challenge for the RSPB and partners to make these decisions, but we need | :11:48. | :11:51.
to in order to safeguard and protect important sea birds. A programme | :11:52. | :11:57.
using poison to eradicate B`rak rats `` black rats, has helped on another | :11:58. | :12:04.
island. They are hoping for similar results on the Isles of Scilly. | :12:05. | :12:07.
He produced some of the most remarkable footage seen herd on the | :12:08. | :12:11.
BBC in the South West. Denis Jory, who's died at the age of 84, fought | :12:12. | :12:15.
hard for the pictures he got and won huge praise for the films hd | :12:16. | :12:18.
delivered. During his career he captured enduring images of | :12:19. | :12:21.
disasters at sea was even nominated for a BAFTA. Eleanor Parkinson who | :12:22. | :12:24.
worked with him for many ye`rs looks back. | :12:25. | :12:34.
When storm conditions turned the 1979 race into the UK's worst | :12:35. | :12:38.
yachting disaster, 18 peopld died. Only one cameraman was therd, his | :12:39. | :12:43.
dramatic pictures were shown in more than 50 countries. It was the first | :12:44. | :12:47.
film to be nominated for a BAFTA from a news programme. The cameraman | :12:48. | :12:51.
was Denis Jory, who had spent three days flying with the Navy hdlicopter | :12:52. | :12:56.
to get the exclusive footagd. He even helped to try and resuscitating | :12:57. | :13:03.
one of the casualties. I had never seen anything like it. The sea was | :13:04. | :13:12.
in all directions. We filmed it in a lifeboat which was being pushed from | :13:13. | :13:16.
one spot to the other. You can see it. It was trying to go frol a to | :13:17. | :13:28.
B. Six years on, another yacht race, and the singer of July and the | :13:29. | :13:34.
run's yacht was upturned. Ddnis Jory was there again and filmed the crew | :13:35. | :13:37.
clinging to the wreckage. Hd captured vivid images along the | :13:38. | :13:46.
coast of Cornwall, including another disaster and the search for | :13:47. | :13:49.
schoolboys swept off lands dnd in 1985. He was also there when an RAF | :13:50. | :13:59.
plane crashed between two houses. The pilot managed to reject safely | :14:00. | :14:01.
into the sea. While filming the rescues, Denis Jory forged strong | :14:02. | :14:08.
links with rescue teams, clocking up as many flying hours as the crew. | :14:09. | :14:12.
His family said filming was his hobby and his work, and he was | :14:13. | :14:17.
fortunate enough to be accl`imed for the work he loved. | :14:18. | :14:24.
Time for the sport now and ht's another crucial weekend for Torquay | :14:25. | :14:27.
United and Exeter City in their efforts to stay in League Two. | :14:28. | :14:30.
Dave's been to St James Park today for a round up of all the action. | :14:31. | :14:35.
Exeter and Torquay plan to take their escape missions to thd final | :14:36. | :14:39.
day of the football season next weekend. That's if they both win | :14:40. | :14:43.
tomorrow. Here at St James Park City have the formidable task of | :14:44. | :14:46.
ending Scunthorpe United's 28`match unbeaten run. If the Lincolnshire | :14:47. | :14:50.
side win, they'll be promotdd, possibly as champions. Exetdr are | :14:51. | :14:55.
only two points above the rdlegation spots and have lost 11 times at | :14:56. | :15:01.
home. For Torquay, they've simply got to win at Mansfield to keep | :15:02. | :15:05.
alive their bid to stay up. Anything less and it'll be non`leagud | :15:06. | :15:11.
football for them. It is very easy to talk about it, you don't realise | :15:12. | :15:19.
what it entails. What it dods also entail is a great level of | :15:20. | :15:23.
excitement, that is what I have gotten my body still. Others are in | :15:24. | :15:31.
worse positions than us. A lot of teams are feeling very nervous. We | :15:32. | :15:38.
will keep our nerve, be sensible, we won't panic. | :15:39. | :15:40.
Yeovil Town's relegation back to League One will be confirmed tonight | :15:41. | :15:44.
if they fail to win at Brighton And Plymouth Argyle look to round off | :15:45. | :15:48.
their season at Home Park whth a win against Hartlepool tomorrow. | :15:49. | :15:51.
It's the third of the World Diving Series this weekend with | :15:52. | :15:54.
Plymouthians Tom Daley, Sar`h Barrow and Tonia Couch all hoping to make | :15:55. | :15:58.
their mark at the London Aqtatic Centre. As Brent Pilnick reports, | :15:59. | :16:01.
Barrow and Couch were aiming for gold in today's 10m synchronised | :16:02. | :16:11.
event. There was a silver lining to the | :16:12. | :16:17.
Plymouth jewel's first return to the London Aquatic Centre since the | :16:18. | :16:20.
Olympics. Tonia Couch and S`rah Barrow got their first World Series | :16:21. | :16:25.
medals for 2014, coming in 06 points behind the Chinese pair. It brought | :16:26. | :16:33.
back memories. It brings back everything from London 2012, the | :16:34. | :16:37.
World Cup and the Olympic ahms. We are thoroughly please `` Olxmpic | :16:38. | :16:47.
Games. We are thoroughly pldased. It came together today, we havd been | :16:48. | :16:50.
training really well. It makes the whole difference. There could be | :16:51. | :16:57.
more Plymouth medals to comd, Tom Daley looks for ten metre individual | :16:58. | :17:01.
gold. Exeter boxer Freddy Kiwitt `ims to | :17:02. | :17:05.
maintain his fine start to his professional career with a third | :17:06. | :17:10.
straight win tomorrow night. After a first round knockout in his previous | :17:11. | :17:13.
fight, Kiwitt takes that form to Gloucester and a light middleweight | :17:14. | :17:16.
contest against Dee Mitchell from Birmingham. | :17:17. | :17:28.
Finally, we will be following Yeovil Town against Brighton tonight. And | :17:29. | :17:35.
BBC Radio Devon will be across all of the Devon teams from thrde | :17:36. | :17:41.
o'clock. Dozens of the South West's food and | :17:42. | :17:45.
drink producers are hoping to drum up new business at one of the | :17:46. | :17:48.
region's main festivals this weekend. It's ten years since the | :17:49. | :17:51.
first Exeter Festival was staged. Spotlight's Hamish Marshall has been | :17:52. | :17:54.
looking at how it has helped some businesses establish themselves and | :17:55. | :17:57.
is now giving others a helphng hand. That is very hot. From a kitchen | :17:58. | :18:00.
table business to the marketplace. Malcolm Reilly is trying to sell his | :18:01. | :18:09.
jams, radishes and ketchups that `` relishes and ketchups. It is an | :18:10. | :18:18.
opportunity where you can gdt a fair amount for the products you produce. | :18:19. | :18:21.
There is a lot of time and dffort that goes into it. Malcolm, and this | :18:22. | :18:28.
popcorn maker, has had the chance to come to this event thanks to an | :18:29. | :18:30.
initiative encouraging new producers. We attended some sessions | :18:31. | :18:38.
about marketing their product, so that they can come in and h`ve an | :18:39. | :18:43.
experience like this. Hopeftlly that will encourage them to come back as | :18:44. | :18:49.
they and we grow. It seems to be doing just that, with large crowds | :18:50. | :18:55.
on Day one, traditionally the quietest of the three days. We like | :18:56. | :19:01.
to have a taste of local produce, a glass of wine and a good tile. My | :19:02. | :19:06.
daughter`in`law brought me here a valiant attempt to persuade me that | :19:07. | :19:15.
Devon is the new Yorks. Victoria Cranfield would beg to diffdr. It is | :19:16. | :19:21.
a fabulous showcase of everxthing Devon. It is the place to come. | :19:22. | :19:28.
There seems to be a serious appetite for local food and drink. | :19:29. | :19:38.
We will be there on BBC Radho Devon sampling the produce from 10am. | :19:39. | :19:44.
If you're a regular viewer of Spotlight you'll know we've been | :19:45. | :19:47.
following the progress of the first puppies bred by Devon and Cornwall | :19:48. | :19:50.
Police. At ten months old the little bundles of joy are now big brutes! | :19:51. | :19:54.
Well, they've just had their final assessment to see if they'rd good | :19:55. | :19:57.
enough to start proper police dog training. Spotlight's Andre` Ormsby | :19:58. | :19:58.
has the latest. They are called the A letter. This | :19:59. | :20:26.
is what they look like now hn just ten months. It is crunch tile for | :20:27. | :20:34.
the puppies. They are being assessed to see if they have got what it | :20:35. | :20:37.
takes to go on the proper police dog training. Father figure and no | :20:38. | :20:46.
Paul will make the final decision. I Paul will make the final decision. I | :20:47. | :20:53.
think she enjoyed that. Tracking is a police dog's main work, so it is a | :20:54. | :21:04.
crucial test. Ten out of ten. Come on! And they have all sorts of | :21:05. | :21:11.
surprises to deal with over the three`day assessment. | :21:12. | :21:24.
So how have they done? Will all seven of them make it through? Out | :21:25. | :21:34.
of the three boys, two of them were absolutely outstanding. With the | :21:35. | :21:39.
other one, he passed all of the assessments, but he is not really | :21:40. | :21:43.
bold enough to be a police dog. It would not be fair to ask hil to go | :21:44. | :21:50.
into high`pressure situations. All of the four girls passed thdir | :21:51. | :21:54.
assessments with flying colours The only problem is that one of the | :21:55. | :21:58.
girls, we do not think she hs going to be big enough to have thd stature | :21:59. | :22:03.
to be a police dog. It is qtite frustrating for us because she has | :22:04. | :22:06.
been so good at everything dlse When we visit them from the | :22:07. | :22:12.
breeders, I normally get thd pick of the selection. There is probably to | :22:13. | :22:17.
Mac or three out of the sevdn that will make police dogs on avdrage. To | :22:18. | :22:21.
get five of them, we are absolutely delighted. These dogs have `lready | :22:22. | :22:30.
been taken off their puppy walkers. I am absolutely delighted. We want | :22:31. | :22:38.
to get the puppies to this stage. We are not dog trainers, we just walk | :22:39. | :22:43.
them, we do our best to givd them a good start in life. For thel to go | :22:44. | :22:48.
on and corporate training the police will give them. The dogs will now | :22:49. | :22:54.
start an intensive 12 week training course. The other three will start | :22:55. | :23:00.
in December. Well done to them. Time for the | :23:01. | :23:03.
weather forecast. Raining c`ts and dogs? | :23:04. | :23:11.
Possibly. Make sure you do not step in a poodle. I will ignore that We | :23:12. | :23:17.
have got wet weather heading towards us. Already approaching the Isles of | :23:18. | :23:23.
Scilly. This weekend will bd unsettled, quite windy at thmes | :23:24. | :23:28.
with rain and showers. Sund`y is slightly better perhaps. Thhs cloud | :23:29. | :23:36.
is heading our way, bearing rein. For a short while later on tonight, | :23:37. | :23:40.
we will have cost of wind bdtween 40 and 50 mph. Unpleasant weather, | :23:41. | :23:47.
moving quite fast, though. Left with that low pressure for much of the | :23:48. | :23:50.
day tomorrow. It is not a particularly good day. Quitd cloudy | :23:51. | :23:54.
and breezy with frequent showers. On Sunday, the low pressure is | :23:55. | :23:58.
beginning to move away from us, but not quick enough. Again at risk of | :23:59. | :24:03.
seeing showers. Then, you gtessed it, on Monday, it is fine and dry. | :24:04. | :24:11.
By Tuesday, more cloud and patchy rain is approaching. From e`rlier | :24:12. | :24:16.
today, we had a shield of clouds travelling through Dorset and | :24:17. | :24:22.
Somerset. The wet weather is already approaching the far west of | :24:23. | :24:26.
Cornwall. Between the two, we have had good weather. A gentle breeze, | :24:27. | :24:35.
enough for the sailors to enjoy People are out and about enjoying | :24:36. | :24:38.
springlike weather today. Temperatures up to 14, 15 ddgrees. | :24:39. | :24:44.
Sadly, it will not last. Make the most of these shots of the blue sky. | :24:45. | :24:48.
We will not see much of that tomorrow and into Sunday. Ldt's show | :24:49. | :24:54.
you the detail on that rain, it comes in a fairly fast tonight, | :24:55. | :24:57.
moving right across us. Behhnd the rain, there will be a clear`nce | :24:58. | :25:02.
Fresher conditions, a few showers possibly, but by the end of the | :25:03. | :25:06.
night it should be largely dry. Not cold either, brightest mornhng with | :25:07. | :25:15.
some showers. The showers bdcome heavier as the day wears on. | :25:16. | :25:20.
Blustery winds, heavy showers, not very warm either, top temperature | :25:21. | :25:25.
around 12 or 13 degrees. For the Isles of Scilly, persistent rain at | :25:26. | :25:30.
times. Much stronger winds `cross the islands, 40 to 50 mph. @ | :25:31. | :25:38.
blustery day. High water, at Penzance, 304 and 1537. For surfers, | :25:39. | :25:52.
big wins and waves, no beach has any usable or clean surf. It will | :25:53. | :26:02.
eventually become cyclonic. Sunday will be the best of the two days. | :26:03. | :26:09.
Thank you. Just before we go we d like to tell you about the BBC Local | :26:10. | :26:12.
Radio Apprenticeship Scheme which is giving people a chance to ldarn | :26:13. | :26:16.
about the industry while thdy earn. From September there will bd a job | :26:17. | :26:19.
at each of our local radio stations in the South West, and tomorrow BBC | :26:20. | :26:23.
Radio Devon is running workshops at Drake Circus Shopping Centrd in | :26:24. | :26:26.
Plymouth so people can find out more about the scheme and meet some of | :26:27. | :26:30.
the staff. You can just turn up on the day or to book | :26:31. | :26:55.
at the European elections on May the 22nd. | :26:56. | :27:04.
even though that would wreck the recovery and destroy jobs. | :27:05. | :27:11.
The Conservatives are now openly flirting with exit. | :27:12. | :27:14.
they just don't have the courage of their convictions on this. | :27:15. | :27:19.
They wouldn't lift a finger to help keep Britain in the EU | :27:20. | :27:24.
So, I'm asking you to vote for the Liberal Democrats, the party of in. | :27:25. | :27:30.
In for the sake of British prosperity and jobs | :27:31. | :27:36.
I'm in because we set the global standards | :27:37. | :27:38.
95% of everything we use, we eat, we heat ourselves in, | :27:39. | :27:44. |
