made a massive blow for the show. Saturday is traditionally the

busiest day. It was a difficult decision for the organisers. We are

sorry to announce that for the fostering of, we have been forced to

cancel the Devon County Show. Also, dealing political ground, UKIP have

three new councils. Labour also called Exeter, while elsewhere that

is no overall control. The organisers of the Devon County

Show have cancelled the model's final day. It is the fostering of

history it has closed. Car parks became increasingly muddy and there

was concern about safety. The decision was taken this afternoon

when he was realised that parking would be virtually impossible to

model. At four o'clock this afternoon, vehicles were being taken

out. Some of the cars stone we can spectators continued to enjoy the

show, unaware of the problems. Just after 4:30pm was an announcement. We

are sorry to announce that for the fostering of all we have been forced

to cancel this day of the Devon County Show. Apologies for the same

problems. I am joined by the Devon County Show's secretary. What

happened this afternoon to make this decision? As we went through the

day, the car parks would be becoming unusable. The management met this

entertain in order to advise our entertain in order to advise our

visitors that we could not be opened. We also had the decline in

place, everybody on the ground, the huge army of volunteers, we needed

to make sure that they were advised in the correct manner. It was very

muddy. That have been some accidents today. Was it safe to go`ahead

needed. The rain campaign did everything this morning. What sort

of the setback is this? It is heartbreaking. Everybody as too

emotional to give you a straightforward, pragmatic comment.

Financially, I know it as an poison to talk about that at the moment,

but what financial implications will be be? Will that be compensation for

people who have been treating here? Priority is to close the show and

close it safely. The tree does have had two days of very good trade. At

least they have had two days. As far as finance, the board will meet in

Labour gains and three council seats for UKIP, as the results are counted

In Exeter, Labour retained control, increasing its majority.

In Weymouth and Portland, Labour replaced the conservatives as

the biggest group, but the council remains under no overall control.

Labour also retained control of Plymouth City Council

Spotlight's Political Editor, Martyn Oates joins us now

This has been a good day for Labour. But if you start beneath the

surface, in Exeter, the party had cause for celebration as we report.

The selection was about to deliver some shocks. We've lost three of its

to UKIP. It has always been about the airport. Today, for a female

UKIP candidate to get in, it is fantastic. UKIP denied that this was

a flash in the pan. It is a four party system now. The party came

second in 12 of the 19 walls being contested. Was this a warning shot

for Labour and the Conservatives? Some of the votes have gone to them

but I suspect they will combat eventually, at the next general

election. It is more important to listen to voters so what we have

been doing is going out and speaking to more photos than ever before.

We've contain overall control of the council and DDC NP constituency that

they are hoping to win back from the Conservatives at the next general

election. Food for thought for both Labour and

the Conservatives. In terms of UKIP running council was very close. We

do now have another report. As today went on, this became

a familiar sight ` Labour success. It won ten of the 13 seats

contested, making three gains. It gives Labour 27

of the 40 councillors in the city. These things all add up

in people's minds. If you go to some other places in

Devon, it's not such a good story. We've always believed in growth

and creating jobs. As counting gathered speed,

the pattern was set. That spelled defeat

for the Conservative group leader. Yolanda Henson's

personal wasn't enough. Her party is now left with just

a quarter of the 40 seats But they didn't come out

and vote for me and that's politics, The only good moment for the

Lib Dems ` they lost two of the Not so long ago they were

the largest party. UKIP didn't win any seats,

but the party is said to be Before people cast their votes in

these ballot boxes yesterday, Labour was virtually assured of retaining

control of Exeter City Council. But the three gains it's made means

the party has really strengthened And we moved, traditionally one of

the region's three recon taste, we've replaced the Conservatives as

one of the biggest groups. But it was not enough for them to gain

overall control. Election results always used to

emerge from the darkness, but the count here is now at a more

civilised hour. 1pm, not 1am! And And light is being shed on

the state of the parties, one year This is not a mini general election,

but it is a place ` unusually for the South West `

where the two biggest parties The last time the seats here were up

for grabs was on the same day Then,

the Conservatives steamed ahead. We set ourselves a target

of two gains, It makes us the largest group

on the council here, now. And in a further reflection

of the picture across the country, UKIP made inroads, taking the

party's first seat on the council. We've already got

about 93 councillors elected. An exchange of seats means the

Lib Dems hold their own, but still And election night ` or day `

results have produced a hung council here, since the

local authority was formed in 1974. The parallels with the current state

of the Westminster parties continue. But where the Conservatives lost out

to Labour, The party didn't even field

candidates in those seats, presenting the Tories with

a much more complex problem The role be more confident on the
