A man has been taken to hospital after the car he was in fell 60 feet

over a cliff on the north Cornwall coast.

Emergency services were called to Polzeath just before

Looking over the cliff, it's a shocking view.

Police have told me the gentleman was parked in one of these parking

bays here and he went into reverse, they don't know how,

but certainly he took this post down here.

You can see some tyre tracks in the grass and he shot up over

this hill and down the cliff the other side.

That is about a 50-60 foot drop and you can see

He was rescued with the help of coastguard, the RNLI lifeguards,

fire and ambulance, but ultimately they had to recover him

from the vehicle, which is down in the cove there on the sand,

and then into a rip, where they then conveyed him around

to the beach where the air ambulance was waiting.

And he was lifted by helicopter to Derriford Hospital.

The casualty was conscious and complaining of chest injuries.

He was very fortunate that people saw what was going

on and they responded really quite quickly, because it is quite

Secondary schools in Devon say they are cutting hundreds of jobs

and removing the number of courses on offer to balance their books.

It is something we have heard before, now headteachers in 13

counties, including Devon and Cornwall, have crunched

the sums and say thousands of teaching jobs are being cut.

When I took over at Newton Abbot College,

I had ten on the senior team and then in September,

when we reopen for the new academic year, I will have six in total.

We will be running curriculum with less staff which will lead

to increasing class sizes, so we have to ensure that

when we are delivering that curriculum, that the quality

of the lessons is still where it should be.

Devon has taken the unusual step of collating its data.

284 posts in secondary schools here will go and that includes 86

teaching assistants, 55 teachers, 35 senior leaders,

There are also extra curricular activities which are being reduced

Even providing transport for vulnerable children has been

affected in all but one of the 27 secondary schools surveyed.

And headteachers are taking pay cuts to protect other posts.

The children in this country are the future of this country

and if we not providing them, all of them with equitable

opportunities to have an academic education, to have good enrichment

education, what is the future of this country going to look

The Department for Education says it hasn't reduced the money it gives

schools in real terms, but with rising costs,

headteachers say a funding crisis is well and truly underway.

As well as rising costs overall, there is a row about how funding

is allocated throughout the country, isn't there?

For years, pupils in rural areas like Devon have received

significantly less money per head than the national average.

Been a lot of campaigning about that.

Recently the government has come up with proposed changes.

The problem is that has resulted in quite a lot of schools in places

like the south-west and elsewhere ending up with even less money.

As you can imagine, a lot of Conservatives

locally have taken issue with their own government on this.

That is continuing even in a general election campaign.

They want the Prime Minister to change her mind.

The problem is if she does, what do you say to the many schools

in the South West who have got more money from these changes?

What are the main parties saying about education in the run-up

A big row among the Conservatives over this.

Among the opponents are seven former MPs in Devon who want to be

Lib Dem, Labour and Ukip politicians have been very critical

of the proposed changes, but not yet, as far as I can see,

come up with any concrete alternatives, but of course

we haven't seen the party manifestos yet.

A Somerset woman who was attacked by her boyfriend has posted online

Yet with hindsight, she should have seen the warning signs.

It was an afternoon of celebration in Plymouth, as for the first time

Time for the weather. David is here. Lovely day today. Yes and there is

more to come. This is our look forward. It looks like we will see a

change at the end of this week. We start to see some thicker cloud and

potentially outbreaks of rain. Chilly nights ahead of us. It is

this week and the weekend. this week and the weekend.

Temperatures start to come up so we hold onto this warmth but we do ten

more unsettled. High-pressure covering most of the United Kingdom.

After Wednesday, this area of low pressure creeps up and introduces

more cloud, potentially showers on Thursday and more persistent rain on

Friday. Into the weekend with south-west winds, so we will keep

these temperatures but a lot more unsettled. And the potential for

rain. Overnight it is already chilly and night-time temperatures will get

down to four or 5 degrees. Not quite cold enough for a touch of frost but

a cold start tomorrow, but also a fine one. More cloud creeping in

from the east and every now and then, it will blot out the sunshine.

But the cloud will break up into the afternoon and then we see some good

temperatures, 16, possibly 17 degrees again. Along the coast it is

cooler at 14 or 15. Towards the end of the week, more cloud on Thursday

that has the potential to produce showers but by Friday we see more

persistent rain and that may well be with us into the weekend. Generally

more unsettled, also the breeze picking up but it does stay quite

Good evening. A quiet day on the weather front but we still managed

to have some huge contrasts in the weather. This was a beautiful

picture from Cumbria, blue skies and crystal clear blue skies in Argyll

and Bute but closer to the north coast, it sends shivers down your

spine! Chilly and cloudy all along that cost this bank of cloud that

sliced the country in half, cool and cloudy to the east and to the West

had sunshine. But it still been dry and it will stay that way for most

of the week. As we get into Friday, there is some rain on the way. In

the short-term, not much happening in the next few hours, quite a bit

of cloud in most of England and Wales but many northern and western

parts, the stars are out. Temperatures not
