Good evening. for the news where you are.

:00:09.:00:11.

Police are treating a huge fire which ripped through a 16th-century

:00:12.:00:14.

stately home in Dorset early this morning as suspicious.

:00:15.:00:19.

No-one is thought to have been inside Parnham House

:00:20.:00:24.

near Beaminster, but the building, which is described as of exceptional

:00:25.:00:28.

historic importance, has been severely damaged.

:00:29.:00:30.

Today one of its famous former owners has been

:00:31.:00:32.

speaking to Clare Woodling, who's just sent this

:00:33.:00:34.

Hundreds of years of history, up in flames.

:00:35.:00:41.

The alarm was raised at 4:10 this morning.

:00:42.:00:46.

20 fire engines were sent to the scene, half a mile

:00:47.:00:49.

They described it as an extensive blaze.

:00:50.:00:53.

Of course we were terrified of fire because houses like that

:00:54.:01:04.

have so often suffered in that way, and we did have a small chimney fire

:01:05.:01:07.

and that in itself was dreadful, but of course the scale of this

:01:08.:01:10.

It was heart-stoppingly beautiful and it's just utterly

:01:11.:01:13.

I mean, it seems very sad that somebody who made it

:01:14.:01:17.

into a beautiful private home could have suffered such tragedy.

:01:18.:01:19.

Crews were still battling the fire at lunchtime.

:01:20.:01:22.

By the mid-afternoon they were damping down.

:01:23.:01:25.

Onlookers gathered to find out what remains of the building

:01:26.:01:28.

but there was little to see, only the smell of smoke.

:01:29.:01:30.

I had my wedding reception there and it was the gardens,

:01:31.:01:35.

it was an outside wedding and it was all in the gardens

:01:36.:01:38.

How do you feel finding out about the fire?

:01:39.:01:41.

Terribly sad and terribly sad for the owners.

:01:42.:01:44.

I don't know the owners but it's devastating.

:01:45.:01:46.

There's no access into the grounds at Parnham House except

:01:47.:01:52.

Police say the fire is suspicious and investigations are under way.

:01:53.:02:06.

Tourism leaders believe ?200 million will be spent in the South West

:02:07.:02:09.

A few spots have been catching some fine weather -

:02:10.:02:13.

A slightly cooler weekend is said to help attractions inland too.

:02:14.:02:18.

The ticket office at Home Park opened to a long queue of fans today

:02:19.:02:21.

hoping to see Plymouth Argyle clinch promotion on Monday.

:02:22.:02:25.

The Pilgrims just need to draw with Newport to secure their first

:02:26.:02:28.

promotion in 13 years, following the 1-1 draw

:02:29.:02:30.

I caught up with a few of those waiting first thing this morning.

:02:31.:02:36.

Yeah, definitely, I think we're going to win this match.

:02:37.:02:44.

What's it going to be like here on Monday?

:02:45.:02:49.

We're just hoping they haven't sold out before

:02:50.:02:51.

Meanwhile, Exeter City's promotion chances are improving.

:02:52.:02:56.

They beat Barnet 2-1 yesterday and if they can follow that up

:02:57.:02:59.

with a win at Cambridge on Monday they'd be in with a very strong

:03:00.:03:02.

However, Yeovil are in relegation trouble.

:03:03.:03:05.

Their defeat at Newport leaves the Glovers just four points

:03:06.:03:07.

And Monday could see Torquay United relegated from the National League.

:03:08.:03:14.

Their 2-1 defeat at Lincoln leaves the Gulls four points from safety -

:03:15.:03:20.

they face Braintree in a game their manager

:03:21.:03:22.

On to rugby, and following the Exeter Chiefs' excellent win

:03:23.:03:26.

at Harlequins last night the Championship season

:03:27.:03:27.

The Cornish Pirates conceded a late try as it finished 40 points

:03:28.:03:31.

apiece against Bedford, and Jersey beat Richmond 28-17.

:03:32.:03:52.

I can't believe I'm about to say these words on a bank holiday

:03:53.:03:56.

weekend but the weather does seem pretty reliable.

:03:57.:03:58.

Many of us did actually see some sunshine, particularly

:03:59.:04:02.

towards the later part of the day, but for most the bulk

:04:03.:04:05.

The rest of the cloud is starting to break up so initially tonight

:04:06.:04:09.

There will tend to be a bit of cloud pushing in towards the tail end

:04:10.:04:19.

of the night but rurally we still could get down as low

:04:20.:04:23.

as five or six degrees, so some sunshine to come tomorrow,

:04:24.:04:26.

I think we will see some sunshine coming and going.

:04:27.:04:28.

Again we've got these brisk north-westerly winds.

:04:29.:04:30.

The risk of one or two showers, more so further east.

:04:31.:04:32.

Further west I think it will be dry and temperatures up

:04:33.:04:35.

So it doesn't look too bad as we head into next week.

:04:36.:04:39.

For Easter Monday a lot of cloud about, the risk

:04:40.:04:42.

of one or two showers, but for most of us it will be dry.

:04:43.:04:46.

I think we'll see more sunshine as we head to the middle part

:04:47.:04:49.

of next week but it is staying on the cool side.

:04:50.:04:52.

There's plenty more on your BBC local radio station in the morning.

:04:53.:04:55.

Good evening. These and but not spectacular is probably a neat way

:04:56.:05:17.

to describe the weather this Easter weekend. -- decent but not

:05:18.:05:21.

spectacular. A bit of sunshine, patchy cloud and showers today, but

:05:22.:05:26.

as we can see from the satellite and radar, the showers are easing, cloud

:05:27.:05:30.

melting away, so a decent evening if you are heading out. Once it gets

:05:31.:05:34.

dark, it will be chilly, cold enough

:05:35.:05:36.
