Welcome to the Weather For The Week Ahead.

0:00:020:00:04

We're going to go further than a week -

0:00:040:00:06

we're going to look out towards the ten-day period to see what

0:00:060:00:08

the current thoughts are for such a long-range forecast.

0:00:080:00:11

It looks as if we're going to start the week with a North-South split,

0:00:110:00:14

with showers cropping up in the Southern half of the UK.

0:00:140:00:17

Some spells of sunshine in between.

0:00:170:00:19

Further north, it should be a largely dry day with variable cloud,

0:00:190:00:22

maybe the odd light shower here or there in Scotland

0:00:220:00:25

but I suspect most places are dry for most of the time.

0:00:250:00:27

And it should be warmer in Glasgow - only 16 or 17 degrees today,

0:00:270:00:30

up to around about 21 or so through tomorrow.

0:00:300:00:34

And across Northern England, pleasantly warm with variable cloud

0:00:340:00:37

and some sunshine, temperatures 22 or 23 degrees.

0:00:370:00:39

Similar temperatures down across the Southeast -

0:00:390:00:42

down on today's values, but still pleasantly warm

0:00:420:00:44

away from those showers, and the showers will come and go

0:00:440:00:46

but the winds are light so when they do arrive

0:00:460:00:48

they could stick around for quite some time.

0:00:480:00:50

As you can see, there are some drier, brighter interludes,

0:00:500:00:53

and in the Southwest, away from the showers,

0:00:530:00:55

temperatures of 21 or 22 degrees. So again, it's pleasantly warm.

0:00:550:00:58

A scattering of showers across Wales -

0:00:580:01:00

there'll be some drier, brighter interludes as well.

0:01:000:01:02

In Northern Ireland it is a largely dry picture,

0:01:020:01:05

and we should see temperatures around 19 or 20 degrees.

0:01:050:01:08

Through the evening, we've got to watch out from the Southeast

0:01:080:01:10

because there could well be another bout of heavy showers.

0:01:100:01:13

Could be some thunder and lightning with those,

0:01:130:01:15

but for many it is dry through Tuesday night,

0:01:150:01:17

although we'll see this weather front advancing as we look towards dawn.

0:01:170:01:20

By which stage temperatures are 14 to 15 degrees -

0:01:200:01:23

only 15 in the Southeast,

0:01:230:01:25

that's increasingly fresh nights over the coming few nights.

0:01:250:01:28

As you look towards Tuesday,

0:01:280:01:30

we've got this weather front in the North and West.

0:01:300:01:32

Behind that, it's a bit of a breeze -

0:01:320:01:34

these isobars are fairly tightly packed.

0:01:340:01:36

But that weather front is moving into an area of high pressure,

0:01:360:01:39

so the rainfall on it is just going to fizzle out.

0:01:390:01:41

But there will be some as it crosses its way across Scotland,

0:01:410:01:44

maybe some into Northern Ireland.

0:01:440:01:46

Down through the Midlands, some hazy sunshine,

0:01:460:01:48

and some sunshine towards London. Here it will be quite warm.

0:01:480:01:51

But for many it's only 21 or so degrees.

0:01:510:01:53

Now, as you go through Tuesday night into Wednesday,

0:01:530:01:55

this cold front will slip south, so as we get on into Wednesday

0:01:550:01:58

I think temperatures will drop by a couple of degrees

0:01:580:02:01

across most of the UK.

0:02:010:02:02

And we've got this increasingly fresh Northwesterly wind,

0:02:020:02:05

in fact, quite strong winds across the North of Scotland,

0:02:050:02:08

where it will be quite cloudy, quite windy,

0:02:080:02:10

and there will be outbreaks of rain around.

0:02:100:02:11

Maybe a scattering of showers for Northern Ireland and Northern England

0:02:110:02:15

but further south it's a largely dry day

0:02:150:02:17

with temperatures in London dropping back by a few degrees,

0:02:170:02:19

down to 23 or 24.

0:02:190:02:21

And for Thursday, low pressure still to the North of us,

0:02:210:02:24

it's driving in these West to Northwesterly winds.

0:02:240:02:27

I think the worst we're going to see on Thursday is a good crop of showers

0:02:270:02:30

coming in to the North and the West of the United Kingdom.

0:02:300:02:33

Maybe one or two cropping up further south,

0:02:330:02:35

but I suspect the Southeastern corner probably stays dry.

0:02:350:02:38

And here we'll see temperatures around about 24 or 25 degrees.

0:02:380:02:42

Towards the end of the week, low pressure really takes over,

0:02:420:02:45

and the weather fronts will be drifting in from the West.

0:02:450:02:48

Ahead of that I think we will see a fair bit of cloud

0:02:480:02:50

and outbreaks of rain on the Western side of England,

0:02:500:02:52

Wales, and showers across Scotland.

0:02:520:02:54

Then later on some heavier rain begins to develop

0:02:540:02:56

in Northern Ireland, and maybe a few showers cropping up further east.

0:02:560:03:00

As we look towards the six to ten-day period,

0:03:000:03:02

well, low pressure looks like it will be the dominant force.

0:03:020:03:05

It'll be unsettled, it'll be breezy with some rain at times,

0:03:050:03:09

so that could be quite heavy. But it's not all doom and gloom -

0:03:090:03:11

there should be some sunshine at times.

0:03:110:03:13

Here's the current thinking.

0:03:130:03:15

This low will be to the North of us,

0:03:150:03:17

high to the South,

0:03:170:03:18

the winds will be Westerly,

0:03:180:03:20

dragging in some fairly unsettled weather at times.

0:03:200:03:22

A lot of cloud, some rain - difficult to say where the heaviest rain

0:03:220:03:25

is likely to be, but at the moment it's probably in the North and West.
