Hello. We have been tracking it for well over a week

0:00:020:00:04

but the weather system which has been spawned out of what was

0:00:040:00:06

Hurricane Bertha has decided to spend its Sunday here with us

0:00:060:00:09

in the UK rather than in France. This is how we begin the day,

0:00:090:00:12

outbreaks of rain across the southern half of the country, some heavy.

0:00:120:00:15

Strong winds initially along the south coast of England.

0:00:150:00:17

That pushes into parts of East Anglia through the morning.

0:00:170:00:20

In the afternoon, as skies try to brighten from the South, we will

0:00:200:00:23

see winds re- strengthen Southwest and through western parts of Wales.

0:00:230:00:27

The heavy rain pushes north so after a calm start to the

0:00:270:00:30

day in Scotland, the winds will pick up later.

0:00:300:00:32

The North and the West could stay dry throughout the day

0:00:320:00:35

but bursts of heavy rain across central and eastern areas

0:00:350:00:37

and the winds will pick up later.

0:00:370:00:39

Some of the most persistent rain, once it sets in from late

0:00:390:00:42

morning onwards, will be across northern England.

0:00:420:00:44

Perhaps here the largest rainfall totals, up to around 50mm.

0:00:440:00:46

There could be some minor flooding before the rain eases its way

0:00:460:00:50

northwards to leave a brighter afternoon.

0:00:500:00:52

The speed of the brighter weather pushing in is still open to question.

0:00:520:00:55

Even when the sun comes out across the South and the drier weather

0:00:550:00:59

dominates, the winds will still be strong, particularly

0:00:590:01:02

South West of England and around the western coasts of Wales.

0:01:020:01:05

So some rough seas possible across southern and western areas.

0:01:050:01:07

Northern Ireland perhaps avoiding the worst of it on Sunday

0:01:070:01:10

but there is still the chance we could see heavy

0:01:100:01:12

and persistent rain towards the east of the country.

0:01:120:01:15

Through the night and into Monday morning, the strongest of the winds

0:01:150:01:18

transfer towards eastern Scotland and the north-east of England.

0:01:180:01:20

A very windy night across the board.

0:01:200:01:23

Some clearer weather around,

0:01:230:01:24

just one or two showers dotted around the coasts.

0:01:240:01:26

More persistent rain once again to the far north of Scotland.

0:01:260:01:30

The scene, as we start off Monday,

0:01:300:01:32

deepening lows in the northern portion of the North Sea.

0:01:320:01:35

You will notice on the southern flank of it, where the

0:01:350:01:37

isobars are tightly packed,

0:01:370:01:38

these are where the strongest winds will be.

0:01:380:01:40

If you're doing the morning commute across parts of eastern Scotland

0:01:400:01:43

and north-east England, it is

0:01:430:01:44

here where we could see winds gusting to around 50mph , if not more.

0:01:440:01:48

There could be a few issues on the bridges in particular.

0:01:480:01:51

Heavy rain to the North West of Scotland,

0:01:510:01:54

but away from that, some rather lively showers with some thunder.

0:01:540:01:57

Because the breeze will still be strong,

0:01:570:01:59

it will push through quite quickly.

0:01:590:02:01

Dry and brighter weather won't take long to follow on

0:02:010:02:03

and some of you will avoid the showers altogether.

0:02:030:02:05

With that low still only slowly pushing its way northwards,

0:02:050:02:08

it sets up the scene for the week of a rather blustery affair.

0:02:080:02:11

Still some gusty winds around on Tuesday, a mixture of sunshine

0:02:110:02:14

and showers.

0:02:140:02:15

Outbreaks of rain most persistent in the far north-west of Scotland

0:02:150:02:18

but elsewhere some bright moments in between.

0:02:180:02:20

Temperatures disappointing if you're still on your summer

0:02:200:02:23

holidays, 15-21 Celsius, down on what we have seen so far this summer.

0:02:230:02:26

That theme continues into Wednesday.

0:02:260:02:28

We start to bring a little bit of a northerly edge to our winds.

0:02:280:02:31

It does mean there will be favoured areas for getting

0:02:310:02:33

the showers, parts of north Wales perhaps,

0:02:330:02:35

running down into the South West.

0:02:350:02:37

Some southern coastal counties won't fare too badly,

0:02:370:02:40

maybe not too many showers.

0:02:400:02:41

Through Wednesday night into Thursday,

0:02:410:02:43

down these eastern coasts will be best favoured for the showers.

0:02:430:02:46

The winds slowly easing down a little bit.

0:02:460:02:48

We could see some banding of showers

0:02:480:02:50

so one or two spots could see some longer spells of rain

0:02:500:02:52

but we are sticking with this story of some sunshine

0:02:520:02:55

in between the showers and one or two of you avoiding them all together.

0:02:550:02:58

The week is not a complete loss.

0:02:580:03:00

There will be some drier weather around.

0:03:000:03:01

For some of you, only a few showers.

0:03:010:03:03

The set-up stays similar as we go through Friday into Monday,

0:03:030:03:06

into the following week.

0:03:060:03:07

Low pressure to the North,

0:03:070:03:09

it does look like high pressure will dominate further south.

0:03:090:03:11

Feeding any of the west or north-westerly winds.

0:03:110:03:14

That does signal a mixture of sunshine and showers again.

0:03:140:03:17

Northern areas most likely to see the longer spells of rain.

0:03:170:03:20

Still remaining breezy and a cool feel compared to what

0:03:200:03:22

we have been used to but it is still summer.

0:03:220:03:25

Get a bit of sunshine and it should still feel reasonably warm out there.

0:03:250:03:28

Bye for now.

0:03:280:03:29

Men of England, heirs of glory

0:03:330:03:37

Heroes of unwritten story...

0:03:370:03:40

Bert Middleton. Yes.

0:03:400:03:41

Do you trust him? Yes.
