12/08/2014 Weather for the Week Ahead

Hello there. Well, parts of the UK continue to feel the effects

of the low pressure system that once was linked to Hurricane Bertha.

As we go into Tuesday, the centre of that low

pushing off into the Norwegian Sea.

It's been piling the rain

across Northern Scotland -

widespread flooding here through Monday

continuing into Tuesday

with some further outbreaks of rain

and still some gusty winds

across the country as we start the day.

At least a dry and bright start

towards Central and Eastern England.

Showers, already in the West,

will get going, pushing their way East

quite smartly on the breeze.

More persistent rain in Northern Scotland

inches a little bit further Southwards so a wet afternoon

in Central and Southern parts of Scotland.

Watch how the showers

really develop towards the South.

Some of those like we saw on Monday -

heavy with hail and thunder mixed in.

The focus for the heavy showers -

Southwest England, Wales,

through the Midlands towards Yorkshire.

With winds lighter than on Monday,

could be slower moving

and will hang around for a time.

But Southeast England, parts of East Anglia

and some in Northern England,

a few showers to come - some will stay largely dry.

Cloudy for Northern Ireland into the afternoon.

Persistent rain in parts of Central Southern Scotland

but some breaks in the rain band further North,

the odd bit of brightness.

Still a little breezy to end the day,

a cool day for August,

and the breeze continues through the night

and into Wednesday morning.

The wind is going to ease down a bit

but feeding in further showers

as we start Wednesday morning

across some Northern and Western areas in particular.

To the South and the East, it should be a dry

and bright start with some sunshine around.

This is the set-up for Wednesday.

A low is reluctant to completely leave us.

It's trying to push its way into Norway,

keeping the wind strongest

across the Northeast of Scotland

and here we could have some longer spells of rain to begin with

but that will push off into the North Sea.

It is a case of spot the difference into Wednesday

but what you will find is the showers that we do have

will be fewer in number, a little bit lighter as well.

A brighter day for Scotland

compared with how we start the week,

and Eastern and Southern parts of the UK

staying largely dry throughout the day.

Because the winds are starting to feel lighter,

it should feel a little bit warmer too.

But as we go into Thursday,

as the low continues to push off into Scandinavia,

the winds fall a bit lighter

and we do have this feature here,

which will pep up showers across

parts of Wales and Southern England once again -

some of those heavy with hail and thunder.

Further North, the showers become lighter through the day

but still on the cool side. The reason those showers

are becoming light is because of

a ridge of high pressure building in

as we start to go into Friday.

Friday won't be completely without its showers

but areas most prone to showers

will be across Northern and Eastern parts.

Even if they are fairly light,

the odd heavier one towards East Anglia and the Southeast

with some thunder can't be ruled out.

It's in the West where we should stay largely dry,

and light winds here to take us

into the start of the weekend.

Could be mist and fog patches around

as we start the weekend.

Winds will be lighter,

so with the sunshine on your back

it should feel pleasantly warm -

that sun is still strong at this time of year -

but the odd shower can't be ruled out,

particularly for Northern and Eastern areas.

And as we finish Saturday and go into Sunday,

with start seeing an area of low pressure push across

the Northern half of the UK.

And this is the general set-up, as we see at the moment between Sunday

and into Wednesday the following week,

allowing that Northwesterly air stream to be maintained,

keeping on feeding in some showers,

most prevalent towards Northern areas

closer to the area of low pressure. The winds will remain quite blustery,

That will maintain the cool feel as well,

keeping things a little bit subdued temperature-wise

but, of course, in the sunnier moments,

and there will be some - particularly towards Southern areas -

it should still feel reasonably warm at times. Bye for now.
