Hello. We are looking at a windy and a rather cool start to our week.

0:00:030:00:06

The question you probably want to know is, will this trend continue

0:00:060:00:09

right through the next ten days towards the Bank Holiday weekend?

0:00:090:00:11

More on that in just a moment.

0:00:110:00:13

But let's take a look at the reason for this cool and windy start.

0:00:130:00:16

It's due to this area of low pressure which is now migrating over to

0:00:160:00:20

Scandinavia, still allowing for this Northerly flow

0:00:200:00:22

and the strongest of the winds on Monday to the Northeast.

0:00:220:00:25

Here we could see potential gusts of 50 mph.

0:00:250:00:28

Pretty rough seas here as well.

0:00:280:00:30

It will be quite a cloudy start to the week.

0:00:300:00:33

Eventually some brightness developing and a few sharp showers as well.

0:00:330:00:37

But I suspect on Monday, West will be best in terms of the drier,

0:00:370:00:40

brighter weather,

0:00:400:00:41

and in little shelter with some sunshine it shouldn't feel too bad

0:00:410:00:45

across the Southwest, for Wales, and the Northwest of England.

0:00:450:00:48

We still can't rule out the risk of a few sharp

0:00:480:00:51

showers across the South Midlands, into the Southeast corner

0:00:510:00:54

and perhaps towards the east of the Pennines due to that

0:00:540:00:57

Northeasterly breeze.

0:00:570:00:58

A cool feel to the afternoon across Northern Ireland

0:00:580:01:01

and on exposed coasts of Scotland.

0:01:010:01:03

Fewer showers than we've seen on Sunday,

0:01:030:01:05

but nevertheless still the risk of some showers driving in along

0:01:050:01:09

the North.

0:01:090:01:10

So that's the story on Monday.

0:01:100:01:11

We keep the risk of some showers for a time, Monday evening,

0:01:110:01:14

running down through North Sea coasts, but then through

0:01:140:01:17

the night we'll have lighter winds and temperatures falling away.

0:01:170:01:21

Lows down to around 8 to 11 degrees.

0:01:210:01:24

We start off then on Tuesday on a relatively quiet note,

0:01:240:01:28

but we run the risk of a few more sharp showers developing

0:01:280:01:31

because of this little trough line here, enhancing the showers out

0:01:310:01:34

of Northern Ireland into Northwest England and Wales for a time

0:01:340:01:38

during the day.

0:01:380:01:39

So I suspect on Tuesday we could see more organised

0:01:390:01:42

showers across the Northwest and Wales for a time.

0:01:420:01:45

We also keep some sharp showers across Northern parts of Scotland.

0:01:450:01:49

The winds gusting to gale force first thing across the Northern Isles,

0:01:490:01:52

but eventually the wind starting to ease,

0:01:520:01:54

falling lighter right across the country.

0:01:540:01:57

13 to 19 degrees,

0:01:570:01:58

so temperatures disappointing for the middle of August.

0:01:580:02:02

As we move out of Tuesday and into Wednesday you can see

0:02:020:02:06

the isobars starting to open up - the winds falling lighter in nature.

0:02:060:02:10

A relatively quiet theme to our day on Wednesday.

0:02:100:02:14

There will be a few more showers running down

0:02:140:02:17

through North Sea-facing coasts.

0:02:170:02:18

Top temperatures of 13 to 20 degrees.

0:02:180:02:20

With those lighter winds, overnight Wednesday into Thursday

0:02:200:02:23

could be a pretty cool night.

0:02:230:02:25

Low single figures in rural spots to the North and West.

0:02:250:02:29

And there is the question mark of some more enhanced rainfall

0:02:290:02:32

up into the far Northwest.

0:02:320:02:33

Still a level of uncertainty about this one.

0:02:330:02:35

We will need to keep a close eye on it,

0:02:350:02:37

but the potential for some pretty wet weather.

0:02:370:02:39

And look at the temperatures. 12 to 14 degrees.

0:02:390:02:41

The best of the drier weather on Thursday looks likely to

0:02:410:02:43

be across England and Wales.

0:02:430:02:45

But that frontal system may well

0:02:450:02:46

just drift a little further South,

0:02:460:02:48

through Thursday night into Friday and so enhancing the showers or

0:02:480:02:52

longer spells of rain across England and Wales for a time.

0:02:520:02:56

We keep the showers

0:02:560:02:58

and the cooler theme continuing to the far North of Scotland.

0:02:580:03:01

Into Bank Holiday weekend.

0:03:010:03:03

We start to see this high pressure building and influencing our

0:03:030:03:06

weather a little and the westerly winds becoming more of a feature.

0:03:060:03:09

That means that temperatures may well return to where

0:03:090:03:12

they should be for this time of year.

0:03:120:03:14

It also means, for the start of the weekend,

0:03:140:03:16

it looks likely to be mostly dry,

0:03:160:03:18

maybe the best of the Bank Holiday weekend,

0:03:180:03:20

because eventually we could see that Westerly wind just

0:03:200:03:23

driving in, and more fronts from the Atlantic, but temperatures

0:03:230:03:26

will return back to the average, so feeling just that little bit better.

0:03:260:03:29

Take care.
