Hello. We're going to see some changes with our weather patterns

0:00:030:00:06

in the longer term, which means particularly as we go

0:00:060:00:09

into the early part of next week, it won't be as cold at night.

0:00:090:00:12

At the moment, it is unusually cold out there.

0:00:120:00:15

That's because we've got this weather set-up.

0:00:150:00:17

Big area of high pressure to the West,

0:00:170:00:19

large area of low pressure across Scandinavia.

0:00:190:00:22

Around that low, the winds are coming down from the North.

0:00:220:00:25

First thing in the morning,

0:00:250:00:26

we'll be widely, in rural areas,

0:00:260:00:27

down to just four or five degrees.

0:00:270:00:29

But there is a bit of strength still in the sunshine

0:00:290:00:31

and most of us will start Wednesday

0:00:310:00:33

with some blue sky.

0:00:330:00:34

It'll be another day of sunny spells and scattered showers.

0:00:340:00:37

At first, the showers across Wales and Southwest England

0:00:370:00:40

becoming more widespread through the afternoon,

0:00:400:00:42

but they will be scattered

0:00:420:00:43

and many places will avoid them.

0:00:430:00:45

In the sunny spells, temperatures struggling.

0:00:450:00:47

15 to 16 degrees, maybe 19 or 20

0:00:470:00:49

in the Southeast.

0:00:490:00:51

Tomorrow evening, showers fade in the South.

0:00:510:00:53

More persistent rain is set to arrive

0:00:530:00:55

across Western parts of Scotland

0:00:550:00:56

and that will continue to trickle South

0:00:560:00:58

across much of Southern Scotland

0:00:580:01:00

and parts of Northern Ireland by dawn.

0:01:000:01:02

With more cloud here, it won't be as cold.

0:01:020:01:04

Further South, again, towns and cities

0:01:040:01:06

may stay in double figures,

0:01:060:01:08

but in rural areas across Southern and Eastern England,

0:01:080:01:10

we could again be as low as just

0:01:100:01:12

four or five degrees.

0:01:120:01:13

High pressure tries to hold on in the South on Thursday

0:01:130:01:16

but this little weather front

0:01:160:01:18

continues to push Southwards,

0:01:180:01:20

bringing outbreaks of showery rain

0:01:200:01:22

across Southern Scotland

0:01:220:01:23

and slowly into Northern England.

0:01:230:01:25

Looks like the winds have changed direction,

0:01:250:01:27

coming from the West on Thursday,

0:01:270:01:28

but you can follow them round.

0:01:280:01:30

Where they originally come from is still the North,

0:01:300:01:32

so it's still going to feel fresh.

0:01:320:01:34

Again, temperatures below average

0:01:340:01:36

at just 14 or 15 degrees.

0:01:360:01:37

Some sunny spells in the Southeast

0:01:370:01:39

may see highs of 18 or 19.

0:01:390:01:41

That little weather feature tries to pull away on Friday.

0:01:410:01:44

A cold front dragging its heels at first

0:01:440:01:46

across the Southeast

0:01:460:01:48

could provide some outbreaks of rain.

0:01:480:01:50

For most,

0:01:500:01:51

another day of sunny spells and showers.

0:01:510:01:53

But again, the winds are coming down from the North and so those

0:01:530:01:56

temperatures again are going to be below average -

0:01:560:01:58

15 or 16 degrees.

0:01:580:02:00

Cold start to the weekend.

0:02:000:02:01

Still a few showers across parts of the East.

0:02:010:02:03

But actually, for most,

0:02:030:02:05

Saturday looks dry and bright with lighter winds.

0:02:050:02:09

Once we get a bit of sunshine,

0:02:090:02:10

those temperatures will start to climb.

0:02:100:02:12

The start of the weekend looks pretty good.

0:02:120:02:14

High pressure moving in across the UK.

0:02:140:02:16

There is this low trying to push in,

0:02:160:02:18

but it looks like it is going to take

0:02:180:02:20

quite a while before that comes in across Western areas during Sunday.

0:02:200:02:23

And for the majority,

0:02:230:02:24

Sunday will feel a little bit warmer

0:02:240:02:26

and it is dry and bright again.

0:02:260:02:29

So we are going to see subtle changes.

0:02:290:02:30

At the moment, in the next few days,

0:02:300:02:32

the jet stream's fairly weak.

0:02:320:02:34

It's that fast-moving air high up in the atmosphere.

0:02:340:02:37

It's to the South of the UK,

0:02:370:02:38

allowing the chilly air across the country

0:02:380:02:40

and that mixture of sunshine and showers.

0:02:400:02:43

As we go towards the weekend, the early part of next week,

0:02:430:02:46

the jet stream looks like picking up in force, becoming more zonal,

0:02:460:02:49

more in from the West.

0:02:490:02:51

And when this happens,

0:02:510:02:52

it tends to drag in areas of low pressure from the Atlantic.

0:02:520:02:56

Might not be in exactly this position,

0:02:560:02:58

but with it coming in from the West,

0:02:580:02:59

it is more likely to bring

0:02:590:03:00

low pressure systems

0:03:000:03:02

across or to the North of the UK.

0:03:020:03:04

So the winds will switch from a Northerly

0:03:040:03:06

to a more Westerly direction.

0:03:060:03:07

If this high pressure is a little bit further North, though,

0:03:070:03:10

we could actually see some

0:03:100:03:11

slightly warmer conditions,

0:03:110:03:12

particularly across the Southeast.

0:03:120:03:14

But with low pressure nearby, that means we will often see

0:03:140:03:17

showers across the country for the early part of next week.

0:03:170:03:19

Often quite windy, but it won't be as cold as it is right now,

0:03:190:03:24

certainly not through the course of the night. That's all from me.
