01/09/2014 Weather for the Week Ahead

Hello, the weather for this week has high pressure keeping things

relatively settled and dry.

A bit of a change potentially as we go into next week

but more details in just a moment.

Starting off with Monday morning which for England and Wales

has a lot of cloud around, mist and fog, patchy light rain

and drizzle but behind that system, which is moving south,

skies will brighten so brighter sunny spells for parts of Scotland.

The risk of a few light showers to the north-west later on in the day.

Temperatures 17 to 18 degrees.

A lot more cloud as we move through East Anglia

and for south-east England with patchy light rain and drizzle

so a grey afternoon to come here with temperatures

expected in London at 18.

Along the south coast we're sticking with this rather dull afternoon

potentially hints of brightness - we might lift temperatures to 20

and the best chance of seeing some

dry weather through the second half of the day across Wales

is further north into Anglesey.

Northern Ireland stays dry and bright throughout much of the day.

We're picking up a risk of a light shower to finish off with

out to the north-west.

But through the night there will be patchy rain to the south

and clearer spells further north that could allow mist and fog to form.

Temperatures staying by dawn at around 10 to 13 degrees.

Not a particularly cold start to Tuesday morning but again

it could be quite cloudy with some of that mist and fog to clear away.

Although pressure remains relatively high on Tuesday,

things will be complicated by the remains of this weather front

in the South which keeps that

feed of cloud going for southern counties with spots of rain

but we think it will eventually clear away.

The mist and fog gives way to some bright and sunny spells.

A bit more cloud in the north-west

with one or two showers across the Western Isles.

Temperatures throughout Tuesday afternoon

still 17 to 18 for Scotland and Northern Ireland but with

a bit more sunshine to the south-east we might get up to 22 in London.

By the time we reach the middle part of the week,

the high is extending down from Scandinavia but starting to

allow these weather fronts to approach the north-west of the UK.

For parts of north-west Scotland potentially the middle

part of the week could be breezy with outbreaks of cloud and rain.

Further south, any mist and fog should clear to give a dry day

with bright or sunny spells but always the risk of these zones

of cloud floating around.

It's going to be a week where forecasting

the detail of that cloud will remain very tricky indeed.

Thursday keeps the fronts in the north-west

so a greater chance of cloud and rain.

The rest of the UK dry with sunny spells

and temperatures by then into the mid-20s for south-east England.

Perhaps by the end of the week our high will start to slide eastwards

and allow these low-pressure systems to the south to bring a greater

risk of some rain around, especially to southwestern areas through

the day on Friday with further north staying dry with bright spells.

Currently a fairly high level of uncertainty in the detail

of Friday's forecast.

As far as the weekend is concerned, again, we will watch out to

how these low-pressure systems to the south are likely to behave.

It looks like southern, central and eastern areas are more likely to see things turning

more unsettled with outbreaks of rain but with the high just

about holding on from Scandinavia, there will be some easterly winds.

But we will keep you up to date as to how the forecast develops over

the next couple of days.
